ABC (finally!) renews these beloved procedural dramas before their season finales
Image
ABC has been taking an interesting approach to the renewal game. In contract to CBS, a network that has slashed through several of its beloved titles in the interest of promoting spinoffs, ABC has largely been quiet. Until Thursday. The network made the hopes and dreams of fans come true by renewing five beloved titles!

These titles include Grey's Anatomy, The Rookie, Shifting Gears, Will Trent and 9-1-1. One of these are shows rarely discussed on One Chicago Center, but Grey's Anatomy, The Rookie and 9-1-1 are huge titles in the procedural world, and we are frankly relieved to see them get picked up.

The Rookie and Grey's Anatomy are returning The Rookie - ÒThe MickeyÓ - On CelinaÕs last day as a rookie, John gives her one final test. Meanwhile, Bailey makes a new friend, and Lucy places her faith in Seth for an undercover assignment. Tuesday, Feb. 18 (9:00-10:00 p.

'Lanterns' Cast Continues To Expand With a 'Walking Dead' Star
Image
HBO's Lanterns series is still ever-expanding after recently adding Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner into the fold. Per Deadline, Lawman: Bass Reeves star Chris Coy is now the latest addition to the upcoming Green Lantern drama series in a guest-starring role. He's set to embody a mysterious new character by the name of Waylon Sanders, described as "an intelligent survivor or a nervous truck driver." If that wasn't confusing enough, his real name and age remain an enigma, and he's said to be "unbound by the laws of nature." It's unclear what role he'll play and whether he'll be a friend or a foe to Lantern recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).

Coy boards a group that has grown significantly in recent weeks, with Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jason Ritter among those on board thus far.

“My Only Allegiance Is to the Story”: Shonda Rhimes Explains Why She’s Killed So Many Beloved ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Characters
Image
Throughout its 21 seasons, Grey's Anatomy saw many characters enter and exit the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. However, many of the most beloved ones left the story in a body bag, which angered a lot of fans. In a new interview, series creator Shonda Rhimes (Bridgerton) addressed the high body count from the long-running medical series and hinted that she has no regret over the bold decisions that she and the show's writing team have made over all these years.

During the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rhimes talked not only about the deaths in Grey's Anatomy but also in the other shows that she created or produced, like Scandal, Station 19 and How to Get Away with Murder. The former showrunner commented on her approach to stories and revealed that there is only one guiding light she follows when making decisions about characters' fates. She stated:

Why Shonda Rhimes Scrapped Spinoffs of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Scandal’
Image
Before decamping to Netflix, Shonda Rhimes considered creating a spinoff for ABC hit “Scandal” focusing on Eli Pope (Joe Morton) and additional spinoffs for “Grey’s Anatomy,” including one that would have revolved around Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) four sisters.

Rhimes even contemplated setting “Grey’s” affiliate series in shows like Boston and Chicago, but ultimately decided against it.

“I felt like we could have done ‘Chicago Anatomy,’ Boston. We could have done that. It just didn’t appeal to me to rebuild the same world,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday.

“I thought that there could be a spinoff with Amelia [Caterina Scorsone] that was [about] the Shepherd sisters,” she says. “They’re all doctors. It could have been a Shepherd sisters show, which would’ve been very interesting,” Rhimes continued. The spinoff would have brought back previously introduced sister Nancy (Embeth Davidtz), Kathleen (Amy Acker) and...

Station 19 Stars Divulge the #Marina Stories They Never Got to Tell
Image
When Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19 aired its series finale six months ago, co-stars Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato were no readier to say goodbye to Maya and Carina than #Marina shippers were. (And we weren’t ready at all.) “There was so much more story to tell with [them],” Savre tells Entertainment Weekly.

Such as? The challenges Maya would have faced in raising a family at the same time as she’s fighting fires. “We knew when we did those flash-forwards that Maya carried one of their children,” Savre notes. So “it would have been nice to see how she...

Shonda Rhimes On The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ & ‘Scandal’ Spinoffs That Never Materialized: “We Thought About A Lot Of Things”
Image
Shonda Rhimes has produced some of the most successful television series, like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and Bridgerton.

Grey’s Anatomy yielded two spinoffs with 2007’s Private Practice and 2018’s Station 19, which were equally successful. Rhimes’ most recent spinoff was Queen Charlotte, a prequel to Netflix’s Bridgerton.

In a new interview, Rhimes explained what she looks for in creating a spinoff and revealed some ideas that never materialized.

“On Grey’s, there were a bunch,” Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly. “I felt like we could have done Chicago Anatomy, Boston. We could have done that. It just didn’t appeal to me to rebuild the same world. And then we thought about a lot of things.”

Rhimes noted that she thought there was an idea with Caterina Scorsone’s character Amelia, Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) sister on Grey’s Anatomy.

“I thought that there could be a spinoff with Amelia that was the Shepherd sisters,...

"Only A Man Can Have 13 Failed TV Pilots": Ellen Pompeo Addresses Pay Disparity With Grey's Anatomy Co-Star Patrick Dempsey
Image
Grey's Anatomystar Ellen Pompeo has opened up about the pay disparity between herself and former co-star Patrick Dempsey. From the mind of Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy debuted in 2005 and quickly became one of the most popular medical dramas on television. As the protagonist and namesake of the ABC series, Pompeo's Dr. Meredith Grey remained the leading professional at Grey Sloan Memorial before departing after 19 seasons. Dempsey played Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, Meredith’s love interest, until his departure in season 11. In season 21, Pompeo only appears sporadically to maintain her focus on other projects.

On an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast (via Variety), Pompeo recalled asking creator Rhimes for the same salary as Dempsey during contract negotiations. The actor acknowledged that Dempsey was a more recognizable actor when the show first started, having been cast several times in TV pilots with notable appearances on Will & Grace and Once & Again.

Bobby won't be on the ship in the 911 crossover with Doctor Odyssey
Image
Angela Bassett is saying what we’ve all been thinking about 911’s Athena popping up on Doctor Odyssey and why her on-screen husband won't be joining her!

ABC is no stranger to TV crossovers. We’ve seen it a lot between Grey’s Anatomy and its spinoffs like Station 19. Likewise, The Rookie had a few with its short-lived spin-off The Rookie: Feds. However, one of the most unusual is coming on Thursday, March 20 as 911’s Athena (Angela Bassett) boards Doctor Odyssey for an appearance.

Would Athena really step on a cruise again in 911?

For many fans, the big question isn’t how the two shows connect. It’s why in the hell Athena would ever want to board a boat again. When 911 moved to ABC from Fox in 2024, it opened with an epic three-part Season 7 premiere when Athena and husband Bobby (Peter Krause) went on a...

'It's Just Hard for Me': Brenda Song Reveals How Fiancé Macaulay Culkin Ruined Her Home Alone Tradition
Image
Former Disney Channel star Brenda Song has shared how watching Home Alone with fiancé Macaulay Culkin ruined an annual Christmas tradition for her. The iconic 1990 holiday comedy delivered one of Culkin’s most memorable performances, in which he played the role of the mischievous and charming 8-year-old Kevin McCallister.

During a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show via Deadline, Song opened up about her experience re-watching Home Alone with Culkin during the early days of their relationship. She admitted that watching Home Alone around Christmas has always been an annual routine for her. However, this experience was ultimately ruined for her after she forced Culkin to watch the movie together, leading him to give her some unsolicited behind-the-scenes stories about the 1990 movie. "Christmastime came around — and it’s a tradition, I’ve always watched Home Alone every Christmas," she said. "He hadn’t seen the movie in almost a...

Station 19’s Maya & Carina Healed Through Love and Built a Beautiful Legacy

Maya Bishop probably never saw Carina DeLuca coming.

Hell, neither did we, but everyone knows the best love stories take you by surprise, and they’re not just about building a ship but a legacy.

And that’s what Station 19 did with the ever-lasting love story between these two women, resulting in a timeless, iconic love story in the Grey’s Anatomy Universe.

Unsurprisingly, the lasting impact of love on the tragically canceled Station 19 is that of this endearing pairing who persevered through it all.

Subverting everything television commonly showcases about queer love, Marina manages to emerge as one of the few sapphic pairings onscreen that get their happily ever after.

Shondaland’s Betsy Beers On ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘The Residence’, Shooting In LA & Expanding Into Non-Fiction
Image
Shondaland, the company behind hits such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton and upcoming murder mystery The Residence, is turning 20 this year.

Shonda Rhimes and her production partner Betsy Beers have been responsible for hundreds of hours of scripted television in that time.

At a Deadline-moderated panel session at NATPE in Miami, Beers talked about the past, present and future of Shondaland as it readies its latest show – The Residence starring Uzo Aduba. She also talked about the fourth season of Bridgerton, the future of Grey’s Anatomy and hopes to expand the company’s non-fiction slate.

Beers, who is being feted at NATPE as a “Shift Disturber” didn’t give too much away about season four of its steamy rom-com, which recently started production. “It’s about Benedict Bridgerton,” she joked when asked to tease the upcoming season, which will focus on Luke Thompson’s character and his love interest Sophie Baek,...

Every Time Station 19's Dean Miller Appeared in Grey's Anatomy, Explained
Image
Viewers assumed that if there were going to be a Grey's Anatomy spin-off, it would probably focus on the side hustles of one of the primary characters. However, it surprised fans when Station 19 premiered in 2018 as an official part of the Grey's Anatomy universe. The series focused on the lives of first responders, particularly firefighters, in a similar capacity as the surgeons of Grey Sloan Memorial. Among these unsung heroes was Dean Miller, an integral part of Station 19 and one of the few characters who left the show midway.

Several characters from both shows crossed paths in different crossover episodes where the responders and the doctors connected over their shared experiences and traumas. Dean Miller regularly popped up whenever Shonda Rhimes wanted to mix things up. The brave firefighter had an interesting and emotional arc that fitted well in both Grey's Anatomy and Station 19's narrative.

Station 19 Star Ponders Series Finale's Flash-Forwards & Offers A Sweet Perspective: "Maybe They're Not Really Reality"
Image
Station 19 star Danielle Savre, who portrayed Maya Bishop, discusses the show's seven-season run and its definitive ending in 2024. The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, which followed the lives of firefighters and paramedics at Station 19 in Seattle, featured a strong ensemble including Jaina Lee Ortiz, Grey Damon, Jason Winston George, and Jay Hayden. The series garnered a dedicated audience and generally positive reviews for its diverse cast and engrossing plotlines. Sadly, Station 19 ended with season 7, although the reason for the cancellation is unclear.

During an interview with Screen Rant's Zak Wojnar, Savre discussed how the show’s conclusion allowed for a sense of closure for Maya and the other characters. Unlike many shows that leave their endings open for interpretation, Station 19 provided a complete and uplifting resolution, offering a glimpse into the future where the characters' goals are fulfilled. Savre expressed gratitude towards showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige for avoiding cliffhangers or tragic outcomes.

Station 19's Maya Actor Comments On Potential Franchise Return In Grey's Anatomy: "Never Say Never"
Image
Station 19's Maya actor Danielle Savre has commented on a potential franchise return in Grey's Anatomy, explaining the possibility of coming back. Station 19's series finale offered bookends to many character story arcs, including Maya Bishop, a Captain on the team whose wife is Dr. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato). Carina is an Ob/Gyn Attending at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, one of many connective elements between the two shows. While neither character has appeared since their spinoff ended, the possibility remains open that either of them could show up in the ongoing medical series.

Speaking with ScreenRant about her role on the NBC procedural drama Found, Savre said she would never rule out returning as Maya despite Station 19 being over. The actor addressed how the ending of the series still allows room for her character to return, still doing her job and potentially able to interact with Grey's Anatomy characters in the process.

Found Star Explains Mysterious New Character & A Scene That Gabi & Trent Shippers Will Absolutely Hate
Image
NBC's Found follows the team at Mosely & Associates as they work with local law enforcement to find missing people before they're lost forever. The agency's founder, Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton), was abducted by Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) during childhood. However, the pilot reveals that she turned the tables by capturing her former kidnapper and keeping him prisoner. In the show's second season, Sir has escaped Gabi's basement to pursue his own agenda, while still trying to prove his twisted affection.

Found season 2 introduces Danielle Savre's character, Heather Tollin, in the January 16 episode, "Missing While Targeted." 2024's New Medical Comedy Series With 88% Rt Score Renewed For Season 2
Image
The medical drama has been popular for a long time. Several of network TV's longest-running procedural series have been in the medical genre. This includes ER, and an Emmy-winning series that ran from 1994 to 2009. Overlapping partially with this time frame was Grey's Anatomy, which began in 2005. Grey's has dominated television ever since, even prompting the spinoff series Station 19. Grey's Anatomy season 21 is in its mid-season break right now, and will return in March.

While long-standing medical dramas like these have fascinated audiences, it can be even more interesting when new shows come in to shake things up in this genre. Last year, for example, saw the release of Doctor Odyssey. The Ryan Murphy-created show took a more comedic approach to the medical procedural, taking place on a luxury cruise ship with a bumbling lead who clashes with his staff. This was met with mixed results, as Doctor Odyssey...

‘Found’: Danielle Savre Introduces Heather, ‘Undeniable’ Chemistry With Trent & Evolving Relationship With Gabi
Image
There’s not much that Danielle Savre can say about her Found character, whom viewers will meet in the January 16 midseason premiere, but something tells us she’s going to be fun to have around. The Station 19 vet debuts as Heather in the show’s return, and like pretty much every other character on this show, we have so many questions about who she is and her past. While Savre can’t share much, she does introduce her character, tease her relationships with Gabi (Shanola Hampton) and Trent (Brett Dalton), and more below. What can you say about Heather ahead of your debut besides that she’s a mysterious and ambitious attorney who comes in involved with the team? Danielle Savre: That was exactly what I was going to say. How did you know? There’s more to her than meets the eye, and I think her ambition is what drives her the most.

Which TV Firehouse Would You Call in a Blaze? Cast Your Vote!
Image
When flames erupt, who do you want to charge through the smoke to save the day?

TV firehouses have become as iconic as the heroes they portray, but which team would you trust with your life?

Let’s break down the choices — and some reasons to cheer (or chuckle) at each one. Then, make your pick in our poll!

Station 118 (9-1-1) (Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

Why They’re First-Rate: Fans of 9-1-1 know the 118 is the Swiss Army knife of firehouses.

Need someone to rappel down a collapsing high-rise? They’ve got you. Someone stuck in a tar pit? No problem. And if your rescue requires emotional support, Bobby’s fatherly wisdom and Buck’s puppy-dog enthusiasm have you covered.

Why You Might Hesitate: Sure, they’re excellent firefighters, but this crew attracts chaos.

From tsunami rescues to a runaway bouncy house, they’re not exactly bringing calm to your emergency.

4 ABC shows came to an end in 2024 (and ABC announced the ending of another)
Image
ABC was very mean when it came to cancellations and endings in 2024. Four shows came to an end or were abruptly canceled, while the network announced that a fifth would wrap up in 2025.

2024 was not a good year for a lot of networks. We said goodbye to some great shows, and we’re still salty about some of the cancellations. There were a couple of ABC shows that we wanted to see more of, especially considering they ended with a shortened season due to the pandemic.

We take a look back at the cancellations of 2024. Hopefully, 2025 will be better.

The ABC shows that ended in 2024

Two shows were given final season orders as the strike action came to an end. It was disappointing news for fans of the shows. The Good Doctor was the first to get the orders, coming to an end after seven seasons. This was one of...

ABC canceled 5 shows in 2024 (Was your favorite one of them?)
Image
2025 has officially arrived and with the new year ahead, there’s still time to look back on the year that was 2024. It was quite an interesting year for TV fans with the results of the 2023 actors’ and writers’ strikes bleeding into the new year leading to shortened seasons of some of the biggest shows on air and unexpected sendoffs for series that very well could have continued for many more seasons.

When it comes to cancellations, CBS by far had some of the biggest cancellations in broadcast in 2024 bringing a close to so many amazing shows including a handful of shows that very much remained at the top of the leaderboard in viewership. Fans were incredibly vocal about some of the choices CBS made, but The Eye network wasn’t the only network that made some difficult decisions leading to the end of a batch of amazing shows.

6 broadcast TV cancellations in 2024 we're still salty about
Image
Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

Emergency! (NBC/Screenshot)

But long before Buck, Hen, and Athena tackled skyscraper rescues and earthquakes, Emergency! quietly revolutionized TV’s portrayal of first responders.

This wasn’t just a procedural drama — it was a catalyst for real-world change.

The question remains: can today’s first responder shows, with all their glossy effects and interpersonal drama, match the cultural and societal impact of Emergency!?
