Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” has started production.
And to honor the super-heroic moment, Marvel Studios is hosting a livestream of … chairs. Now, mind you, they are director-type chairs with the name of the actors on the back.
The camera is moving down the list of said chairs – so far, they have revealed Chris Hemsworth, returning as Thor; Vanessa Kirby, who plays Sue Storm in the upcoming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” (in theaters this summer); Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America (his “Captain America: Brave New World” opened earlier this year); Letitia Wright (the new Black Panther); recent Oscar nominee Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier (he’ll star in bad guy team-up movie “Thunderbolts” in May); Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in multiple films; Wyatt Russell, who will reprise his “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” role of John Walker in “Thunderbolts;” Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who...

Hans Zimmer isn’t rushing to score another superhero movie any time soon. The 12-time Academy Award nominated composer previously said he “retired” from scoring superhero films in the wake of “Batman V. Superman,” and doubled down on his decision in a recent episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
“Look, I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman,” Zimmer said. “I mean, what do you want me to do? Some of the minor characters? Probably yes.” When asked if Marvel had already approached him about working on one of their films, Zimmer confessed they had, and that he’d turned them down.
“Timing wasn’t great. And really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things right now,” he admitted. “That was very arrogant of me to say that. Kevin Feige said that to me, ‘Hans, what are you complaining about?’”

German composer Hans Zimmer began his career playing keyboards for various New Wave bands around Europe. He played with Krakatoa in his native Germany, with The Buggles (of "Video Killed the Radio Star" fame) in England, with Krisma in Italy, and with Mecano in Spain. In the early '80s, he started to produce pop singles as well, overseeing "History of the World, Part 1" for the punk band The Damned. About the same time, he started to write commercial jingles and TV theme tunes, effectively giving him an "in" into film-scoring work. His first film as a composer was 1982's "Moonlighting," one of Jerzy Skolimowski's movies.
For there, Zimmer's output increased exponentially, and he brought his unique, sweeping sensibilities (but with a pinch of New Wave) to over 20 features. He scored Stephen Frears' "My Beautiful Laundrette," (soon to be remade) and Bernard Rose's underrated "Paperhouse." In 1988, he...

Sofia Vergara established herself as a top dog in the TV industry with her Modern Family role. Although the show concluded in 2020 after 11 long years, it opened new horizons for Vergara’s career which continues to soar.

Interestingly, even though the actress has become a household name by now, many fans don’t know that in 2020, Sofia Vergara was the highest paid Hollywood actress. In fact, she far outshone major A-listers like Angelina Jolie, and Gal Gadot to claim her top spot.
What is even more fascinating is that she did it without a single film appearance in that year. However, even with her massive success, she couldn’t beat Sandra Bullock’s salary from a movie that earned her an Oscar nomination.

Following last night's news that Ryan Gosling is set to star in Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie, it seems Lucasfilm may be looking to cast another A-lister for a project we never expected to see the light of day.
Though nothing has been officially confirmed, a recent report claimed that the Rogue Squadron movie we first heard about over four years ago is once again in active development.
It was assumed that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins' feature was well and truly dead in the water at this stage, but the project is now believed to be moving forward, and the studio may have found its lead.
According to scooper Mttsh, Chris Pine is being eyed to star (whether this means he's actually in talks or simply on Disney's radar is not clear).

Pedro Pascal got his start in the acting world with short films in the 1990s after attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, and while it might have taken him nearly 20 years to get his breakout role, he has proven his talent with his bet movies and TV shows of recent years. Pascal made a living appearing in one-off television show roles in the 1990s, including an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but he has successfully transitioned into much more substantial roles.
Following his 2014 break with a supporting role in Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has become a household name. He has become part of some of the biggest franchises, including being cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four. Pascal is set to have a huge year in 2025 with some of his biggest projects yet coming out, but these movies and TV shows are Pascal’s best right now.

Kraven the Hunter had a disastrous opening weekend at the North American box office with a mere $11 million. There was no saving what could be the final chapter in "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" overseas either; internationally, it grossed only $15 million.
The movie, which arguably features a far more popular lead character than either Morbius or Madame Web, promises to be Sony Pictures' biggest Marvel flop yet. Unsurprisingly, there are now rumblings online about the Spider-Man rights being sold back to Marvel Studios as the struggling studio cuts its losses.
While only time will tell what happens there, things went from bad to worse for Kraven the Hunter yesterday.
The movie grossed only $830,000, a massive -66.1% drop from Sunday which takes its domestic cume to $11.8 million. For context, Wonder Woman 1984 was released in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time in the middle of the pandemic and still...

Wonder Woman’s iconic Invisible Jet was finally brought to the realm of live-action in Wonder Woman 1984, and the DC Extended Universe used real-life aircraft to depict the famous jet. Set between 2017’s Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the Dceu timeline, Wonder Woman 1984 reveals how Diana Prince continued to protect humanity following World War 1 before her return to the public eye and co-founding the Justice League. The film adapts many famous elements of Wonder Woman’s comic lore, including the Invisible Jet, which receives a new origin that honors its comic incarnations.

Creature Commandos is more than just an animated series based on a DC Comic airing on Max. This is the beginning of James Gunn and Peter Safran's new Dcu. It has been a long time coming, as the duo was appointed to run DC Studios over two years ago in October 2022, and the slate of projects, which Creature Commandos was confirmed to be part of, was revealed in January 2023. Now, after a series of box office disappointments in 2023 like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Aquaman, and the Lost Kingdom, and 2024 mostly being from other corners of DC like Superman & Lois, Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!, and The Penguin; Creature Commandos is the long-awaited start in a new era for DC.

Even though Marvel has been at the forefront of the superhero movie craze, DC has produced some of the most remarkable superhero films to date. With iconic characters such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and the Justice League, it’s no surprise that their films come with a hefty price tag.
DC’s most expensive movies feature masterful lighting, spectacular fight scenes, and performances from some of Hollywood’s most famous actors. While DC films have often received mixed results in terms of financial and critical success, their production is consistently high.
Wonder Woman: 1984 Had Less Action But a Larger Budget
Budget
$200 Million
Box Office
$170 Million
The overwhelming success of Wonder Woman gave the actors in Wonder Woman 1984 the leverage to negotiate significantly higher contracts. The film featured costly set pieces and locations, including shutting down major streets in Washington D.C. for up to a week.

Will Chris Pine be in Wonder Woman 3? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
So, here’s the deal: Chris Pine isn’t all in on returning for Wonder Woman 3. The dude seems ready to pass the torch after two films playing the legendary Steve Trevoh. Pine, who first graced the screen in Wonder Woman (2017), nailed the chemistry with Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince. That on-screen romance? It hit us right in the feels. And let’s be honest, his death at the movie’s end? Still hurts. But then came Wonder Woman 1984, and shocker—Steve was somehow back in the flesh.
But now? Pine’s throwing cold water on the “Steve Trevor Returns” hype for the next movie. Talking to Et while promoting I Am the Night, Pine gave a pretty solid “nope” on a comeback, saying, “I think Steve’s done. I think Steve’s done his bit. I wish them all the luck in the world.

Chris Pine's directorial debut, which he also stars in, has become a streaming success despite its dismal 22% Rotten Tomatoes score. Pine is perhaps best known for his franchise roles, starting with Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot movies, which include 2009's Star Trek, 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness, and 2016's Star Trek Beyond. From there, he also starred as Steve Trevor in the Dceu movies, 2017's Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.
Outside of franchise fare, Pine first rose to prominence for his roles in romantic comedies, including The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004 and Just My Luck in 2006. From there, he was cast in Star Trek, but continued to appear in other possible franchise-starters, playing Cinderella's Prince in Disney's Into the Woods and Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. In the wake of Alien: Romulus comes the FX/Hulu series “Alien: Earth” sometime next year, which is set to be the first ever television series set within the official Alien universe.
As part of a 2025 preview video from Disney+, we’ve got the first footage from “Alien: Earth” this morning, which gives us a brief sneak peek at the locations and characters.
One character says in voiceover, “This ship collected specimens from faraway moons… monsters.” The suggestion there is that a Xenomorph specimen has been brought back to Earth in the upcoming “Alien: Earth,” which will indeed be the franchise’s first installment set here on Earth. Check out the first look preview footage for next year’s “Alien: Earth” below.
Creator Noah Hawley recently told Deadline, “There’s something about seeing a Xenomorph in the wilds of Earth with your own eyes that is truly chilling… to think...

We’re now five years removed from “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.” While there have been plenty of new “Star Wars” television shows on Disney+ — some of them even stellar — there’s still no clear answer to what Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm want to do with the film arm of the massive franchise.
This week, the latest writer looking to bring the films back to the big screen is Simon Kinberg, the writer behind many of the X-Men movies. No one knows what those movies are going to be about just yet either, or when they could come out.
But the questions about where this franchise is going next have been percolating for years, to the point that we’ve bemoaned its lack of direction and lost potential on several occasions. “The Rise of Skywalker,” of course, was already the product of whiplash to fan reaction and backlash to “The Last Jedi,...

Gal Gadot’s journey as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, in the Dceu was definitely a downward trajectory. She was praised in 2017 when her eponymous film became a massive hit, with a unanimously positive reception. However, she dropped the ball on the character with her very next appearance in the same year. One of the scenes in Joss Whedon’s Justice League gave her quite the reputation as a bad actress.

Her next appearance came in the sequel to her solo movie, Wonder Woman 1984, which was a messy product. The storyline wasn’t that good and Gadot got trolled again for bad acting, particularly in one scene with Pedro Pascal. It happened to be one of the most-remembered scenes in the film but for all the wrong reasons.

Fans excited about Wonder Woman 3 were dealt a devastating blow when the news broke that the Dceu sequel was not moving forward. Though director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot were expected to return for the third installment in the Dceu timeline, the project was canceled as the Dcu underwent restructuring with the new co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran. As such, fans waiting for news about Wonder Woman 3's trailer or release date are sadly going to be left disappointed, as there will be no new developments with this particular Wonder Woman project.
The cancelation is especially shocking given the massive boost 2017's Wonder Woman gave to the Dcu in its struggling early days. Following the disappointing reaction to movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman proved that there was hope for the Dcu to survive as it was met with critical acclaim...

Kasdan, who directed Sony’s revival of “Jumanji,” will direct his Lego film from a script written by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul. Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows wrote a previous draft of the script. Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians from The Lego Group will produce alongside Kasdan and Melvin Mar, who will produce through their company Detective Agency.
Jenkins will direct from a script she co-wrote with “Wonder Woman 1984” writing partner Geoff Johns. She will also produce through Wicious Pictures alongside Wilfert and Christians.
Cornish, director of “The Kid Who Would Be King,” will write off a previous draft of the script by “Rick & Morty” writer Heather Anne Campbell, which was based on a treatment by Simon Rich.

The Dceu had a very unique look as far as cinematic universe go. Zack Snyder managed to craft a great universe that managed to not only be as dark and gritty as DC is expected to be but also managed to excite audiences for what’s to come….until it didn’t.

Wonder Woman 1984 was a heavily disappointing sequel from Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot after their super successful first film. While fans had a hard time sitting through the film, Gadot revealed that she didn’t have a great time on set either. The Wonder Woman actress and her co-star Kristen Wiig had to endure rashes on their faces and dive into stinky milk water for their roles.

Wiig played the role of the DC supervillain Cheetah, which required her to do some heavy action sequences like Gadot in full costume. The big-budget film was no smooth ride for either of the actresses, especially for Wiig who was suffering from a cold at the time.

Deadpool & Wolverine fans had hoped that November would be the month that the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman blockbuster would be coming to streaming on Disney+. While this seems a little overly hopeful considering the Marvel juggernaut only landed on VOD services at the beginning of October, and has only become available on physical media on October 22, Disneys recent reveal of which titles are coming to the streaming platform in the next month proved to be a disappointment to that select group.
Deadpool & Wolverine has been the shot in the arm that the Marvel Cinematic Universe really needed after a lacklustre couple of years, which culminated with the humiliation of The Marvels almost a year ago. The film became the second highest grossing movie of the year with a record-breaking $1.3 billion box office, and delivered some of the most impressive reviews of any Marvel project for quite some time.

While not every movie can be a financial hit, the biggest box office bombs of all time prove that some projects can take down careers, genres, and even studios. While movie studios do everything possible to ensure they take as few risks as possible, investing in a film is always a gamble. The common criticism that Hollywood only produces reboots, sequels, remakes, and spinoffs is not without justification. This claim comes from the fact that, for studios, an intellectual property with proven potential and a built-in fanbase will always be more appealing than an unknown, original prospect.
However, this approach does not always bear fruit. The box office failure of superhero movies in 2023 shows that no genre is going to be a surefire hit forever. While superhero movies were once the biggest earner, they have now made for some costly losses. This can be the same for big ambitious productions that spiral out of control,...

DC superhero movies have been struggling for a while, and ahead of the official DC Universe relaunch, movies like Joker: Folie a Deux appear to be adding to the pile of commercial failures, while other safer bets are ignored. While the Dceu was spiralling out of control almost from the moment it started, there were some big hits that came out of the struggling franchise. The first Aquaman passed the billion dollar mark, becoming the instant leader of the pack, and Wonder Woman followed close behind with an over $800 million box office (via The Numbers).
While looking back at the missteps of the franchise, stars such as Connie Nielsen, the woman who played Queen Hippolyta, have commented on the unusual choices made by the studios to simply scrap financially viable products, like a potential Wonder Woman 3, in favor of starting from scratch and potentially draining even more funds on failed attempts.

Despite critical and commercial success upon its debut in 2017, the Wonder Woman series starring Gal Gadot has quietly vanished from the DC Universe. Actress Connie Nielsen, who played Hippolyta in Patty Jenkins's feature adaptation of the classic comic book character, has since criticized Warner Bros.'s cancelation of the franchise, stating that she believes it was a crazy decision.
The third Wonder Woman film was officially canceled back in December 2022, but it seems a lot of bitterness still remains about the stolen future of the wildly successful franchise. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ premiered last Friday to horrific critics and audience scores. The movie currently holds a 33% approval rate by critics and a 32% approval rate by audiences, making it completely rotten.
The movie also received a “D” CinemaScore, the lowest so far for a superhero movie, although calling ‘Joker 2’ a superhero movie or even a comic adaptation would be a pretty big stretch.
During its opening weekend ‘Joker 2’ shattered some pretty unflattering records. With the movie being compared to ‘Morbius.’
Initially, box office predictions for the movie did not look good at all. The projected domestic opening for the film has been revised down to $55 million to $60 million across 4,000 U.S. theaters, utilizing IMAX and Plf screens. Ultimately, the movie brought in a modest $20 million on Friday, which includes $7 million from preview screenings

Connie Nielsen is about to return as Roman Princess Lucilla in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II." One of the only cast and character carryovers from the original "Gladiator," Nielsen/Lucilla looks like she'll play the same supporting role to her son Lucius (Paul Mescal) as she did to Maximus (Russell Crowe) in the first.
Less than two months out from the "Gladiator II" premiere, Nielsen is on the press tour — and opening up about some of her other work. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Nielsen said it's "a pity" that Warner Bros isn't going ahead with Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman 3."
In the 2017 "Wonder Woman," Nielsen played Hippolyta, queen of Themyscira and mother to Diana (Gal Gadot). She then reprised her role twice: in both cuts of "Justice League," Hippolyta and her Amazons fight the villainous New God Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), and then the...

A third Wonder Woman movie was in development at Warner Bros. right up until James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the relaunched DC Studios, and the decision to scrap the project evidently came as quite a surprise to a number of people involved with the now defunct threequel and the previous WW films.
While speaking to Den of Geek about her return as Lucilla in Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2, Connie Nielsen - who played Queen Hippolyta in both Wonder Woman movies and Justice League - admitted to being baffled by the studio's call.

To say that the early results for "Joker: Folie a Deux" weren't exactly what everyone at Warner Bros. had in mind would be a polite understatement. The high-profile sequel from director Todd Phillips has been met with what might be best described as disdain from many critics and audiences thus far. Its prospects are not great, particularly in light of the sequel's terrible opening weekend at the box office. Some of the only good news here in the early going is that DC Studios won't have to wear this as a stain on its reputation.
Those who saw "Joker 2" in theaters over the weekend might have noticed that the new DC Studios logo didn't appear in the film's credits, either before or after the film itself. It is no secret that the DC Extended Universe is one of the most controversial cinematic universes of all time. Although it sometimes managed to evade its reputation of mediocrity, on the whole, it spent most of its duration being passable at best and laughably bad at worst. In the years between its debut with Man of Steel and its anticlimactic last entry, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the franchise struggled to find its identity in a sea of superhero media.
While you cannot blame the Dceu for the crowded cultural landscape it was competing with; it is fair to criticize the universe for its failure to commit to any distinct narrative beats or tonality. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe soared due to its trust in the creative minds behind the scenes, Warner Bros consistently loomed over the shoulders of Dceu creatives, crafting a cinematic universe that felt simultaneously shallow and overstuffed.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Penguin episode 1
Surprisingly, The Penguin doesn't include any DC logo despite the fact that DC Studios recently unveiled a new one. On July 26, 2024, DC Studios revealed its new company logo, which takes inspiration from the emblem DC Comics used from 1976 to 2005. This logo is probably the most famous in DC Comics' history, and it will represent the brand on the big and the small screen from 2024 onward.
Right from the start of episode 1, The Penguin's cast and plot are clearly established, with Oz Cobb killing Carmine Falcone's son in a sudden fit of rage, which leads him to cross paths with other veteran Gotham criminals, such as Sofia Falcone and Sal Maroni. The Penguin also drops some references to The Batman and Gotham's corner of DC Comics lore. However, The Penguin is missing one major element that's usually the first thing most...

The 1975 TV series "Wonder Woman" is deeply beloved by dutiful Gen-Xers who watched it as children. The show's combination of silly action, funky music, and campy humor hit a sweet spot, presenting the title heroine as bold, strong, and capable, but also upbeat, happy, and capable of whimsy. Also, because lead actress Lynda Carter is so dazzling, many Gen-Xers may confess to having a crush on Wonder Woman at some point. The series was a hit, lasting 59 episodes over three seasons. Along with 1952's "The Adventures of Superman," 1966's "Batman," and 1978's "The Incredible Hulk," "Wonder Woman" was, for many decades, one of the most celebrated superhero TV shows ever made.
"Wonder Woman" began its life as a 1974 pilot starring Cathy Lee Crosby, as a reimagined version of the character. That pilot didn't fly, but ABC was eager to do something successful with the character and launched a second pilot...

In the wake of Alien: Romulus comes the Hulu series “Alien: Earth” next year, which is set before the events of all previous movies and brings the franchise to Earth for the first time.
If it’s taking place on Earth… before the original Alien… does that mean “Alien: Earth” won’t actually feature any Xenomorphs at all? That’s been the speculation/worry from many fans these past several months, but creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”) is here to debunk the rumors.
Chatting with Deadline on the Emmys red carpet last night, Noah Hawley has made it crystal clear that were will be at least one Xenomorph featured in next year’s “Alien: Earth.”

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has been quite iconic in many ways. After the release of the first film in 2017, the film established her character in a way no other portrayal of Diana Prince had. This pattern followed through her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. However, the same was not the case for the second chapter in her story.

Wonder Woman 1987 was an early letdown in the DC Universe’s spiral down a dark path. The film had some very high expectations to meet, and it was unable to keep up. Pedro Pascal, who portrays the titular Mandalorian Din Djarin in Star Wars' The Mandalorian TV show, will have a starring role in the franchise's brand-new The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. The actor made his Star Wars debut as Din Djarin in 2019, when both The Mandalorian and the Disney+ streaming platform first launched. Pascal has been a part of the trailblazing Star Wars project following the Mandalorian bounty hunter and his adorable little green accomplice, Grogu (or "Baby Yoda"), ever since the beginning, when it became the first live-action Star Wars TV show.
Now, The Mandalorian is about to make Star Wars history again with The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, giving Pascal the opportunity to be a part of another trailblazing project. There has been, however, uncertainty surrounding his involvement, as the leading role in The Mandalorian helped Pascal to become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood with an infamously busy schedule.

However, no one had an idea that Gunn would go on to become the co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran in October 2022. It certainly seems that the burden of carrying the Dcu might just be getting to Gunn.
