“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-Jae has been cast as the male lead in Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” show “The Acolyte,” alongside previously announced star Amandla Stenberg.
Going farther back in time than any live-action “Star Wars” project before it, “The Acolyte” will take place in the last days of the High Republic Era, centuries before “The Phantom Menace,” where the thought-to-be eradicated Siths have returned. “Russian Doll” co-creator Leslye Headland will be showrunning.

Speaking to TheWrap last year, Headland — who is the first queer woman to be behind a “Star Wars” title — said “The Phantom Menace” appealed to her upon its release, when she was first discovering her sexuality.
“I actually was very intrigued by why George Lucas had started us at that particular point. I kind of wondered, but what happened to lead up to this? That...

Merely a year after seeing success with “Beat”, director Kim Sung-soo would once again team up with his star from that production, Jung Woo-sung, for yet another tale of friendship and neglected youth in “City of the Rising Sun”. Only this time, Jung would also bring along for the ride his real-life best friend Lee Jung-jae, who had seen moderate success the previous year with “An Affair” for a star-making and award-winning turn.
“City of the Rising Sun” is screening at Florence Korea Film Festival
The real-life best friends play reel-life friends too. Do-chul, played by Jung Woo-sung, is a boxer who has the skill and passion for the sport but isn’t really cut out for the game, winning nothing but cuts, bruises and concussions. Lee Jung-jae’s Hong-gi, meanwhile, is a low-level gangster working as a debt collector for a loan shark who places money above all else.

Exploring themes of faith and doubt amid a pandemic, “Possession” opens in 1918, as World War I is coming to an end and the Spanish flu is ravaging populations. The Cine Fan retrospective, entitled Life is But an Illusion: The Cinema of Naruse Mikio, features 12 of his most iconic works, including some rarely seen outside of Japan. There are so many international films playing here at the Miami Film Festival 2019, that it would be nearly impossible to watch them all. I've just seen Director Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken's fifth feature, An Affair, and it treads some rough cinematic waters where content is concerned. That is to say, an intimate affair between a teacher and a student learning how to harness his hormones and raging sexuality. The film centers on middle-aged Anita (Andrea Bræin Hovig), a bored, well-to-do woman married to a never-home lawyer who couldn't be more disinterested in his wife if he tried. And so, Anita takes a job filling in as a substitute teacher at the nearby high school. It isn't long before student Markus (Tarjei Sandvik Moe) comes onto Anita in...
