  • Trespassers is a movie that wanted to be more I think, one that thought it could expand and grow into something bigger later on, an edge of the seat thriller/horror with some good twists and kills.

Sadly it failed on pretty much every level, being nothing more than a movie that takes forever to start and then delivers some annoying performances and questionable writing really. It is definitely not the worst out there, but if you're into such movies perhaps try something like Revenge (2017) because just like this one it is over the top but manages to provide some better scenes and closure. Even Mandy has more to offer compared to Trespassers, a movie that oddly enough is categorized as horror as well, perhaps the home invasion theme managed to bring this up.

All in all, I don't think people will have fun with this one sadly, so I will not recommend it, not even for a boring late night. Look elsewhere, find something different.

    Cheers!

This is a home break-in film if you couldn't tell from the title. Two couples with secrets and cocaine rent an isolated house in Mojave. Who takes Polaroids? The break-in occurs at about an hour into the film with some minor David Hess type action. It was nice to see Fairuza Balk, who was the highlight of the film.

    Guide: F-word, sex, brief near-nudity.

Note to self: Don't try to deal with a tough situation armed with a gun and on cocaine.

Quick backstory: A couple, Sarah and Joseph, go on a trip with their friends Estelle and Victor (also a couple). It's obvious both couples are going through a rough patch. Then a stranger knocks on the door and things turn bad when they try to get her to leave and she dies. Although it was an accident, everyone becomes cautious of Victor because he tussled with the woman causing her death. He senses this and tries to distance himself away from everyone, soon dying from a stab wound inflicted by Estelle (on accident). Two police officers came and question Sarah, Joseph, and Estelle. One police officer is then killed by robbers, and the other appears to be working with said robbers. Joseph is stabbed and Estelle is killed. The robbers are looking for a photo of themselves and the police officer committing a crime. Sarah tells them she can take them to the photo, and eventually kills the police officer and a robber. As she is leaving the last robber jumps out and is about to kill her when Joseph shoots him. Then Joseph died.

What did not make sense: Sarah and Joseph were expecting a baby, but VERY little detail was given on how the baby was lost. It was clear that it had put a strain on their relationship. Then, it is revealed that Joseph and Estelle had an affair, which serves no purpose to the movie at all. The officer is also partnering with robbers to get a photo that somehow caught them up close and personal committing a crime. Honestly even Fairuza Balk couldn't save this movie, her role is that of the stranger who need to make a call. The acting also was not very good, but it wasn't terribly bad. People will want to give this movie a terrible score, but it could have been a lot worse.

There is not one likable character in this film. I won't give anything away, but I spent the first half hoping that they would all get killed in various gory ways.

    Warning: Spoilers
The writing is atrocious, I cannot believe that anybody would ever act like this. They have an easy way out, the only prints on the gun are the jackass who caused the trouble in the first place's prints yet they still try and hide the fact that he got stabbed in self defense? Seriously? I can understand stretching your imagination for the sake of a film but this is just a slap to the face of everyone that watches this abomination. I have never written a review on IMDb like this but Trespassers has got to have one of the worst premises that I have ever had to endure. Yes, endure. This movie was straight up painful. During a tense moment in the film where you're unsure if the guy with the gun is going to just kill you all because he's incredibly unstable you admit to cheating on him? Really? REALLY? I'm so angry that the makers of this garbage would believe that we, the viewers, would believe that any human being could be this incompetent. This stupid. This inept. Don't do it, don't watch this trash. The writing is so horrendous that I rank this film right up there with Manos Hands of Fate in the bad movie department. When the home invaders finally show up it's too late, the filmmakers have already questioned the viewers intelligence to the point of no return. Please, save yourself from this head scratchingly awful film and find something, anything else to watch.
  • Why the creators would think up every dumb thing a person would do in such a situation and actually have them do it. Almost every character does something so mind boggling stupid and then it leads to obvious repercussions. I don't think I could count every one of them with my two hands. Come on IFC Midnight, you can do better.
  • Warning: Spoilers
First off, good acting, good cinematography but, the end just didnt make sense. Why would they have someone taking pictures at a murder, completely bonkers. Couldn't give it more than 3, just stupid, felt like I'd wasted my time.
  • This was such a garbage film. It's clear that everyone in this shi...tfest including Fairuza Balk was all about getting a lousy paycheck for a lousy film. Outside the gore, this movie provided not one iouta of good acting, intelligent writing or casting. This was a film I clearly should've never downloaded and watched. Watch at your own risk, but I gurantee a major disappointed and time wasted.

When things go wrong, they tend to go wrong badly. And in movies even more so. But I'm only talking about the plot/story here. The movie itself is more than nicely made. Now the twists and turns (those you know or think you can predict and the others) are a matter of taste. You may like them a lot or not at all. You may dislike all the main characters or you may be able to identify with at least some of them overall.

All this will determine how you'll come out of this (no pun intended). The actors are doing a solid job for a thriller. Which is not for the squeamish by the way. I have not seen the trailer, but if you are aware of the basic setting you should know what this is about (title is a bit of a giveaway too of course). Go and watch it, if that is something that sounds enticing. Because the movie may start off slow (and maybe even weak for some), but the pace goes up and the tension stays more than solid. Cliches and all included
  • Warning: Spoilers
TRESPASSERS is yet another home invasion thriller set over a single night in which a pair of obnoxious partying couples are busy boozing and having sex and arguing amongst themselves before they're ambushed and attacked by masked invaders. It's a cheap and sleazy piece of filmmaking, enlivened only by a brief turn from '90s starlet Fairuza Balk (remember her from THE CRAFT?) who's the only fun actor in this. The bad guys take ages to show up, and then the ending is just an endless array of ridiculous twists, violent death and general unpleasantness. It's not a good film.
  • Four young people rent a house in the middle of nowhere. As it happens this is a recipe for disaster. Haunted by the problems they tried, but never managed, to leave behind, their turbulent lives may be In danger as an unexpected guest knocks at their door... Home invasion movies all have the same structure, but it doesn't make them less popular. HELL IS WHERE THE HOME IS appreciated style above the intrigue, but the way the story is laid out is hardly predictable. The director Orson Oblovitz seem to enjoy playing with highly damaged, slightly despicable characters, where the grief is mixed with betrayal, and a stressful situations make the worst of emotions surface.

Immaculately shot, and dialling up the gore when it matters, the movie creates a surreal atmosphere where terror comes for no apparent reason and this is the strongest find of the film. When the explanation comes, it is highly irrelevant, for it is clear - the movie's primary concern is to shock. Shock is what it delivers in spades.

For a predictable horror where young people are stuck in an isolated place with a couple of maniacs on the loose HELL IS WHERE THE HOME IS, is actually very intense. Add a spooky score and a slick photography, and you get a film you can recommend to your friends and maybe watch again. Not cult movie material, but in the age of indie horror HELL IS WHERE THE HOME IS, is a rare gem!
  • A mise-mash thriller, with a lot of typical subject matter thrown in, the Director has an eye for detail and environment, but plot twist and turns are predictable, the story itself was not bad,it could have had a little more terror and tension based on the title of the film, the actor who played the abusive butt-hole doper boyfriend was entertaining ,the sinister neighbor who knocks on the door was a creepy and briefly engaging, the Ennio Morricone type music at beginning and end of film was cool, IFC midnight films continue to get a little better with each thriller they release, a good late night treat.

    Yikes
This might be the worst movie I've ever seen. And I've seen Retro Puppet Master.

    Oof!
The synopsis made it seem interesting but in reality the story is so nonsensical & boring i can't even put it into words.
  • For Angela Trimbur and/or Fairuza Balk fans ok. This still ain't anything exceptional. The suspense and tension grows after a slow but boring start and apart from the 2 ladies mentioned above, there isn't one likeable character. There lies the biggest problem in my opinion. When the bad guys finally get to the (supposed) good guys, which are already entangled in their own nightmare, you actually realize you've been praying for the ruthless killers to come and put an end to their victims misery.

This movie was so confusing, and cringy! When I saw the trailer, I thought, okay the trailer looks good, but I also said to myself, this is gonna be a baaad movie! Lol and it turned out the way I thought smh! Terrible. I honestly don't understand the plot! This movie doesn't deliver anything to me, it was confusing and was just all over the place. Sorry 😐
  • I didn't expect much from this movie, but was surprised. The beginning started off with a lot of promise, then there was a slower section that probably lasted a little too long. But once the action starts, it is intense, and I think all involved did a goo job. The characters weren't that likeable, but they were believable. The acting is good, and this is a movie I would recommend.

The acting was so terrible I thought it was dubbed. The characters were beyond dumb. I actually laughed out loud at some parts, it was that bad (for this reason you may want to watch for your own amusement). Give it a miss.
  • Not a bad flick yea the characters suck and the writing is subpar ,but let's be honest we are not looking to watch Shawshank redemption.this movie has what you're looking for if you just want a dumb suspense flick. Has a little sex appeal a little violence a little drug use a little jump scare and is shot in an awesome location.it starts out a little slow but gets interesting soon enough as the newest character introduces them selves .Yes this is a dumb movie but it's an alright watch if not taken to seriously the Estelle chick is pretty hot so there is eye candy to help you through this dumpster fire.
  • I'll give it a five star rating, just because I feel generous. The story starts promising but you don't have to wait too long to realize this isn't the best script. The script is definitely the weakest link of this movie. Not that the acting was great either, that was also pretty average, but that was passable. I thought the more the story advanced the worse it got. Okay it's not the worst movie I ever watched, it isn't terrible, there is just not a chance I will watch it again in the future.

This movie is awesome from start to finish. All of the actors play their roles brilliantly and very convincingly. I couldn't believe how good this movie is, the director used many different camera angles which shows real talent and gave the whole movie a totally different perspective. There are some extremely intense scenes all done with the obvious intent to shock us and it worked extremely well. Horror movie fans will love this one. 10/10
  • With tons of terrible horror flicks droppping every week, this one was actually a nice surprise. Not original, but well made. Nice cinematography and lighting, good acting, and some cool practical gore. If like me, you're a horror fan, always on the look out for the next film you can actually sit through and enjoy - definately check this one out. A smaller scale "The Strangers:Prey at Night".
  • Absolute waste of time...Rated 3 ,just because there are even worse films out there...no story, acting ridiculous ,plot non existent...

    Gross
Gross, just an awful film. The plot makes no, zero, nada sense. If you like gore flicks that make no sense, knock yourself out.
  • Trespassers (2018) follows two young couples who rent a Mojave desert luxury house for a weekend of fun when doorbell rings and the body count begins. This film is a huge disappointment. I expected a fun and cheesy home invasion film, but got a boring and directionless mess of a film.

The cinematography is very basic with a lot of poor camerawork. The colour schemes are very intense to the point where the film feels visually overwhelming and the lighting is poorly done resulting in a very visually unpleasant watch.

The movie has a lot of sloppy sound design and the sound mixing is done badly. The score itself is overbearing and way too distracting, with a soundtrack that is way too dull. It includes a lot of cheesy stock sound effects which honestly come across as very laughable, ruining any attempt of tension building.

Unfortunately, the characters and acting are the worst part of the film. The acting only gets worse as the plot progresses and none of the actors have any chemistry with each other. The line delivery feels incredibly off too. The characters are written to be very irritating, shallow and unlikeable. Additionally, the villains feel way too weak and I don't understand their motives.

This film is structurally very messy with a basic and cliche plot and no real driving force. A lot of scenes drag resulting in no tension being built up, and the whole film just feels extremely boring. The ending of the movie is incredibly rushed too, and I have no idea what the filmmakers are trying to achieve.
