  • Warning: Spoilers
"The Dig" is an American short film from 2017 that was written and directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Tron and Oblivion and he will also be the man in charge of the next Top Gun movie. But back to this 8.5-minute live action short film. It features Lily Collins (daughter of Phil) and Taylor Kitsch,, who is enjoying a better career these days than I'd have expected, playing the two central characters. As the film progresses we find out they are on their way to bury a man they knocked out in a fight. May have helped the entertainment and excitement factor to not read this here on imdb because it is not obvious from the very beginning, but just halfway into the film. But it would not have saved the overall movie either I think. It is just too mediocre. The sountrack is as monotonous as it gets and gets annoying really quickly due to how repetitive it is. The entire film could have worked including scenes from a full feature film, but not as a standalone movie. I read that this one was made on a specific camera and was the first film where said camera was used, but well that's not a factor by any means for me when it comes to judging, rating and evaluating a movie. The looks aren't shabby, the visual side, I'd say but that's it. There is no spoken language here, so even if you are not fluent in English you can watch this film without subtitles. It's all about the annoying soundtrack plus sound effects. The ending can really be seen from miles away in my opinion, even if the look into the empty back of the car still made it slightly better, but it is not a gigantic plot twist that will totally surprise you by any means. All in all, this film is not a failure, but far away from the level where I'd recommend checking it out. Go watch something else instead.
