Dogstar, the Nineties alt-rock band featuring Keanu Reeves on bass, has officially announced its live return following a two-decade-long hiatus.
For nearly a year, Reeves and his bandmates — drummer Robert Mailhouse (a fellow actor who notably appeared on Seinfeld) and guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose — have been sharing videos of the trio recording the long, long-awaited follow-up to their second album, 2000’s Happy Ending.
With that LP completed, Dogstar will return to the stage on May 27 at the BottleRock music festival in Napa Valley, California. The performance will feature new music...

Back in the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, Keanu Reeves co-founded and played bass in a grunge band called Dogstar. After quietly reuniting last summer, the group has announced they will be “rolling out some new music” this summer, to be followed by some live shows.
Update — May 10th: BottleRock Festival has revealed Dogstar will give their first major comeback performance on Saturday, May 27th.
Last week, they shared a preview of a rooftop photoshoot on Instagram, and apparently, the reception was so strong that Dogstar couldn’t wait to share more news. “Thank you everyone for the kind comments. We are overjoyed to see such a response!” they wrote in the comments of the post. “Honestly, didn’t expect this. It makes us want to play out even more.”
Dogstar continued, “We will be rolling out some new music this summer, followed by some gigs. As soon as...

Editors note: This review was originally published in June 2021 after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The film opens in New York on Friday and in Los Angeles on April 21.
.
Beautifully upholstered and decked out with a starry cast, Everything Went Fine (Tout S’est Bien Passé) is the sort of comforting, thoroughly mainstream commercial film not often seen in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Although the subject of euthanasia does not normally suggest a good time at the movies, French director François Ozon serves one up anyway with the help of a raft of crafty and appealing veteran actors, lush filmmaking and savvy and deft handling of the central emotional dynamic.
Shortly after family patriarch André (André Dussollier) suffers a debilitating stroke, the 85-year-old insists to his daughter Emmanuèle (Sophie Marceau) that he wants to end to it all, on his own terms. He seems something of a borderline case,...

Reed Hastings just made a bold claim: That Netflix is the “biggest builder of cross-European culture.”
Speaking at Netflix’s European headquarters in Amsterdam today, the streamer’s founder and Executive Chairman said an “unexpected” outcome of pushing into European originals was how series and films from one country had performed in others.
“The amazing thing has been [seeing] how many Germans or Italians watch Spanish series,” he said. “We didn’t set out to do that, but we’ve become biggest builder of cross-European culture in the EU. It’s partially because all the other networks are national networks who specialize in one language group. We specialize in connecting.”
He quipped it was “ironic it’s a U.S. company” that achieved that level of soft power. “Or a U.S. company that’s now a Dutch company,” he added.

Schitt’s Creek premiered in Canada in 2015. After it began streaming on Netflix, the series blew up — even earning Emmys for its last season. Speaking of that final outing, the show’s finale found itself with some detractors. While fans ate it up, star Annie Murphy was so unhappy when she read the last script she threatened to quit before filming.
The ‘Schitt’s Creek’ finale brought happy endings for its characters
Fans of Schitt’s Creek were devastated to learn the sixth season would be the last one. But, ultimately, the show and the cast had a phenomenal run. The series finale, appropriately titled “Happy Ending,” saw the Rose family completing their journeys and leaving the titular town behind.
The emotional episode revolved around David (Dan Levy) and Patrick’s (Noah Reid) wedding. Despite terrible weather and Alexis (Murphy) wearing a bride’s gown to her brother’s wedding, the sentimental ceremony...

The art of the pop confessional album has been honed to perfection: Adele, Beyoncé, Olivia Rodrigo, Selena Gomez and countless others have reaped the artistic and commercial rewards of airing your dirty laundry from the top of the charts. On her road from tween Disney star to anguished R&b/country pop survivor, Demi Lovato has had a lot to process on record; last year’s Dancing with the Devil…The Art of Starting Over confronted her near fatal 2018 drug overdose and recovery, her battles with bulimia and the gender exploration that has seen her change her pronouns to them/they and back again in recent years. Now, as if her demons are still gnawing their way out more ferociously than ever, she’s turned to hard rock to exorcise them better. The fact that it’s a genre more suited to festival headline sets is merely fortune smiling.

Comedy darling Schitt's Creek wrapped up its final season last week, leaving me - and many others - in tearful disarray. The writers let us know what was next for each of the Roses over the course of the final season so that the last episode could simply be a moment of closure. David's wedding starting as a disaster was a thematic parallel to the entire series: a family that sticks together can get through any crisis - and that family includes the endlessly supportive Schitt's Creek community. The show was a testament to perseverance, which feels very timely right now.
The first time I heard of Schitt's Creek was actually through a former therapist. She thought it would be a great show to escape into, and she was right. At first, I connected with how distant it felt from my own life, but as the show went on, I...
