Earlier this week, Prime Video dropped a full-length trailer for the third season of The Wheel of Time, coming up on March. We've been cheerleading this show since it began, so we were happy to break the trailer down in detail on the latest episode of Take the Black, our weekly chat show where we discuss all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. Check it out below! And skip to the 6:30 mark if you want to get straight into The Wheel of Time stuff:
There's a ton to dissect in this trailer. Where are Rand, Moiraine, Nynaeve, Perrin, Egwene and the rest of the characters going in this new seasons? This new season will adapt The Shadow Rising, one of the most popular books from Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time book series. Do we see anything in the trailer drawn directly from the book, and do any differences stand out?...

Icon Film has debuted a trailer for the early-life bio-pic ‘Mr Burton,’ based on the early-life of the legendary iconic actor and husband of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton.
Based on a remarkable true story, discover how the poor son of a miner became one of the greatest actors the world has ever known, with the help of an unlikely mentor.
In the Welsh town of Port Talbot, 1942, Richard Jenkins lives as a wayward schoolboy, caught between the pressures of his struggling family, a devastating war, and his own ambitions. However, a new opportunity arises when Richard’s natural talent for drama catches the attention of his teacher, Philip Burton.
Taking Richard under his wing, the young man thrives thanks to Philip’s strict tutelage and the guidance of kindly landlady, Ma Smith. However, as the acting world comes within Richard’s reach, the burden of his past risks holding him back forever.

Prime Video has debuted the first trailer for ‘The Wheel of Time’s’ upcoming third season, which will debut globally on 13th March 2025.
In the series, a humble farm boy, Rand al’Thor, learns he is The Dragon Reborn—a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. After defeating Ishamael, one of the most powerful of the Forsaken, at the end of Season Two, Rand reunites with his friends in the city of Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn. But in Season Three, the threats against the Light are multiplying: the White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah run free, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken are in hot pursuit of the Dragon… including Lanfear, whose relationship with Rand will mark a crucial choice between Light and Dark for them both.

It's been confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will return for season 3 on Amazon's Prime Video. While the news doesn't come as a surprise, it arrives several months after season 2 concluded.
The season 2 finale wrapped up with various cliffhangers, including the Elves resolving to stand against Sauron's army as it marched across Middle-earth (helping matters was the fact the Elves and Dwarfs had crafted their own powerful Rings capable of levelling the playing field).
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that we're getting a major time jump when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns and the trade has shared the first story details in an official logline:
"Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will...

The long, unexpected journey of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is set to receive another chapter. The streaming series first debuted in 2022 to somewhat divisive reactions. However, for my money, "The Rings of Power" Season 2 used a darker, bolder, and more complex story to show us what the series was truly capable of. The show's strong viewership numbers and consistent quality has finally led to what was all but inevitable: an official renewal for Season 3. And it comes with a fascinating wrinkle, too.
The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news, with Prime Video confirming that "The Rings of Power" Season 3 will begin filming in just a few months in the UK. But that's not even the biggest development for fans of author J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy adventures set in Middle-earth. The report also reveals that, after the first two seasons basically compressed centuries of source material into...

Last summer, fantasy fans were treated to a veritable feast of genre epics as both HBO's House Of The Dragon and Prime Video's The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power both returned to our screens for triumphant second seasons. But as we wait for the conflicts between House Green and Black — and the precariously allied forces of Middle-earth and the Dark Lord Sauron — to continue, fans of magic, prophecy, politicking, and other such speculative fiction shenanigans aren't being left high and dry by any means. This March will see Amazon's ambitious adaptation of Robert Jordan's sprawling Wheel Of Time continue with the release of the long-anticipated Season 3. And if the first trailer for the latest run of episodes is anything to go by, then it looks like trouble's a-brewing in the Westlands. Check it out below:

The Wheel of Time continues to spin at Prime Video, and fate might spin in a dastardly direction for some characters if the Season 3 trailer is to be believed.
The sci-fi drama hit a significant snag during The Wheel of Time Season 2, featuring controversial storytelling choices.
Since the series premiere, the issue has been that there aren’t enough episodes in a season to do the novels justice, and it’s hard to imagine that changing any time soon.

But as things stand, the only way is up for The Wheel of Time Season 3, and the latest trailer may compel me to watch the show again.
The footage showcases Rosamund Pike’s Aes Sedai, Moiraine Damodred, who is struggling to come to terms with the visions of the future.

A couple months after a juicy teaser, Prime Video has finally released the full official trailer for The Wheel of Time season 3, and it is, in my humble opinion, looking delicious. Take a gander below:
When last we left our heroes, Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) had declared himself as the messianic Dragon Reborn for all the world to see, which is going to cause some major ripples. Some people will want to follow them into the Last Battle against the Dark One, some want to control him, others to kill him.
This all leads to the events of The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series and widely considered one of the best. I see lots of big moments from the book in that trailer I know fans are eager to see, including:

Season 3’s storylines are primarily based on the fan-favorite fourth book of Jordan’s series, The Shadow Rising, which takes viewers to new regions and cities across the fictional continent of the Westlands, including the vast deserts of the Aiel Waste, the intoxicating and dangerous port city of Tanchico, and the forbidden and fog-shrouded ancient city of Rhuidean, where Rand and Moiraine will both experience life-changing revelations. It’s the moment most of the Doc fandom has been waiting for since the premiere!
How is everyone doing after the final moments of Doc Season 1 Episode 6, and what do you think is next for Amy and Jake?
The series delivered a solid hour, with an endearing case, some background on Katie and Amy’s relationship, and the Amy/Jake reunion.
(Courtesy of Fox) Gina and Amy’s Friendship Finally Takes the Spotlight in Doc
It was also a substantial hour for Gina, who hasn’t had much screen time or development since the series began.
She’s had a tough time navigating the role of Amy’s best friend and doctor, and it hasn’t always had the desired effects. Gina struggled with when to serve as Amy’s doctor, trying to job her memories or prevent her from feeling overwhelmed, and when to lay out the truth...

It's a good poster, although the most interesting thing about it may be the caption, telling us that an official trailer is coming tomorrow morning, Wednesday, February 12, at 8:00 a.m. Est.
We've already gotten a teaser trailer for The Wheel of Time season 3. If you've forgotten:
What's the difference between that teaser trailer and this upcoming proper trailer? Usually length. The teaser trailer ran for about a minute and 20 seconds. We can expect the proper trailer to go for over two minutes.
It will have a lot to show off. This next season of the show will adapt The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in...

Lord of Chaos is the sixth installment in author Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time series, and it features the best ending of any of the 14 books, except for the last one. This book is also the key to understanding Rand al’Thor’s relationship with the Aes Sedai. His lack of trust and subsequent dealings with Aes Sedai stem from events in this book.
Readers also get a glimpse of Jordan’s vision for Egwene al’Vere. He starts her on a hugely important path in this book. While Nyneave remains more caricature than character, with her childish tantrums and mental block, Egwene is more fleshed out. Her past as a prisoner of the Seanchan and her training with Aiel Wise Ones have provided her with tools no other Aes Sedai has.
While much of Lord of Chaos seems to focus on Rand hanging around waiting for something to happen,...

The Shadow Rising is the fourth book in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. It's considered one of the best entries in that series, and it forms the basis for the upcoming fourth season of Prime Video's The Wheel of Time TV show. What better time to talk about its strengths and weaknesses? Below, WiC editors Dan Selcke and Daniel Roman do just that. Beware Major Spoilers!
Rand (Josha Stradowski) and Lan (Daniel Henney) in The Wheel of Time season 3. Image: Prime Video. | The Wheel of Time
Dan: This is my first time reading through The Wheel of Time novels, and I'd always heard that The Shadow Rising was a big book for the series. Now I see why. I was starting to get a little tired of every book before this climaxing with Rand al'Thor winning a fight against Ba'alzamon, or Ishamael, or whatever name he's going by at this point.

The Wheel of Time is one of the most famous epic fantasy series in all of literature. Author Robert Jordan put out the first book, The Eye of the World, in 1990. Ten books and one prequel novel later, he released Knife of Dreams, the last book he would write in the series, in 2005. Jordan died before he could finish the books, but author Brandon Sanderson picked up where he left off and completed the saga.
Fantasy nerds have loved The Wheel of Time for years, but now it's getting a bigger audience thanks to Prime Video's The Wheel of Time TV show, which is about to air its third season. Season 3 will mainly adapt The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in the franchise and usually near or at the head of the pack when fans start ranking the novels. Does the book hold up?
That's the question we set out...

The third season of The Wheel of Time is right around the corner, and Prime Video is getting people primed. Just today, it dropped a new video spotlight the character of Mat Cauthon, played by Dónal Finn. Mat spent much of the second season trying to dodge the responsibilities that come with being a ta'veren pattern weaver and the best friend of Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn. But he got a hero moment in the season finale when he blew the Horn of Valere and summoned heroes of old to help fight back the invading Seanchan. That might have been one of my favorite moments of the season!
In the new clip, we see that Mat has let his fame as the blower of the horn go to his head. He's even getting a portrait of himself drawn with him holding the horn! And in a few behind-the-scenes shots, Dónal Finn drips with cheeky arrogance.

From Lord of the Rings to The Wheel of Time, the fantasy genre has seen an absolute wealth of screen adaptations, but it's one genre Disney could do more with. For a studio who has built their image on princesses, dragons, and castles, you would think the House of Mouse would have it down pat.
Although Disney did dip their toes in the water before with several fairytale adaptations and even a cinematic exploration of C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, the studio has had one series waiting in the wings for far too long, and it's time to dust off the tomes.
The Chronicles of Prydain, cauldron re-born
If there's one Disney film that has lived in infamy since the '80s, it's the infamous Black Cauldron (1985). Disney's foray into the realms of dark fantasy was such a deviation from its magical formula that it nearly killed the animation studio.

The third season of The Wheel of Time, Prime Video's adaptation of Robert's Jordan 14-book strong epic fantasy series, will premiere on Thursday, March 13. There will be eight episodes this season, just like there was in the two prior. If Prime Video sticks to their normal release schedule, the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 3 will drop all at once, and then new episodes will come out one at a time every Thursday thereafter until the season is over. So the third season of The Wheel of Time will kick off on March 13 and probably be all wrapped up by April 17.

The upcoming third season of The Wheel of Time will adapt The Shadow Rising, one of the most beloved books in Robert Jordan's epic fantasy saga. A lot happens in this book. Rand al'Thor heads to the Aiel Waste, there's big trouble in the White Tower of the Aes Sedai in Tar Valon, Perrin heads back to his home village of Emond's Field, and Nynaeve and Elayne head to the seaside city of Tanchico on the hunt for the wicked Black Ajah.

The first season of House of the Dragon, which aired on HBO and Max in 2022, had a full 10 episodes. The season had the space to tell a full arc front to back and was very warmly received. The second season aired in 2024, and while it had some definite high points, it got a lot more flak from fans. A lot of people were particularly disappointed in the season finale, which rather than giving us a climax ends with a montage of people and armies that will eventually clash. In a season that got accused of moving too slowly, that was a big let-down.

The Fires of Heaven is the follow-up to The Shadow Rising, one of the lynchpin books in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. While The Rise of Heaven focuses on two main storylines, it intertwines a few others into the overall tale. The book has plenty of action and story advancement, and it is a worthy follow-up to its predecessor.
The main plot in The Fires of Heaven involves Rand, now known far and wide as the messianic Dragon Reborn, and his legions of Aiel warriors chasing after the Shaido Aiel. These particular Aiel chose not to follow Rand after he revealed himself as the Car’a’carn, the chief of chiefs, in the previous book. The Shaido have shed the honor they carried as Aiel by laying waste to innocents on their way to the city of Cairhein.

A firm called Luminate Data recently released a big report on TV in 2024, and it had some interesting findings. The biggest series on Disney+ was Percy Jackson and the Olympians, with around 3 billion minutes watched. Overall TV output was down compared to years past, with the 2023 actors and writers strikes having stopped production for a while. And the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was watched for 60% fewer minutes than the first.
The Rings of Power didn't make the list of top 10 most watched original streaming shows. Here's that, if you're curious:

It's been eight years since Luca Guadagnino took author André Aciman's queer romance Call Me By Your Name and turned it into one of the most sensual, sweltering, and frankly heartbreaking movies of the 21st century. But while you might've thought a flurry of Aciman adaptations would surely follow, more of the Italian-American writer's work has yet to materialise on screen — until now. Presented as a series of vignettes featuring certain recurring characters who drift in and out of Paul's life, Enigma Variations' form is well fitting for the limited series treatment,...

Rafe Judkins has the unenviable task of bringing Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time to the small screen. Long before this incredible opportunity became available, Judkins was a contestant on Survivor, the long-running reality show where contestants try to outlast each other on a desert island, with someone being voted out at the end of each episode.
Judkins is trying to condense a massive 14-book series into a television show. It is a huge undertaking, but Judkins has shown toughness and resiliency before. In 2005, he was a contestant on Survivor: Guatemala. This was a landmark season for the reality show. That season, the show's 11th, was the first to introduce an immunity idol. The season also featured former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Gary Hogeboom plus two returning favorites: Stephenie Lagrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard. Other players that season included Judd Sergeant and Jamie Newton.
