Again a brilliantly acted episode, especially, the scenes shared by Mary Louise and Celeste; that slap is everything! The characters face humiliation and fear, everything comes against them and threatens what they most love. The lie is no longer just the secret of the Monterrey 5.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Each passing episode action is increasing a little more and every minute Mary Louise can solve the incident at least has already begun to affect people psychologically. Celeste and Bonnie don't look good for now Renata's role is too big to keep the secret, as Renata is trying to keep all the girls together for now. After a great battle between them began that episode stands as Celeste and Mary Louise will pass the series is progressing great now.

I never thought I would say this, but Mary Louise's character, and the way Meryl Streep is portraying her, continues to be totally hateful with no redeeming qualities at all. The character has no nuance as written, and I would have expected such a great actress like Streep to bring SOME quality of likability to Mary Louise. Instead, this monster who spawned the psychotic Perry remains totally unsympathetic. It throws the whole drama off track, as no one in his or her right mind would want Celeste's boys to be in her custody, no matter how troubled Celeste still appears to be. Streep's is a one-note performance. What a disappointment!
  • A lot of different emotions and things that get light shed on them. Meryl Streep slowly leading to some serious stuff, "Everything is unraveling'! I love this show and always will!
  • Now, someone tell me - Nicole must've really slapped Meryl, cause that was all just too real, haha. Call it what you will, but that was a great dramatic slap, lol. Loved this episode (as I do all of them). Also, shout out to the Bee Gees and those 70s tracks.

Also, what's everyone's deal with mah boi Ed, seriously, leave him alone!!! Are we forgetting that it was Madeline who cheated on Ed?!? Every character seems to be on his case, lol!

This season is waaay too freaking short compared to last season, every episode leaves me wanting more, & the wait each week is just too painful. I hate that this is only 7 eps. But, i'm really excited for the next episode cause the promo looks juicy, haha.

    10/10
    Whoooo!
    Warning: Spoilers
I gave this episode a 10 off that SLAP alone which was well-deserved and looong overdue. I feel like even though we're talking about Bonnie we're not getting to the essence of her character and what led to her actions on Trivia Night. I hope we get there soon. Meryl CRAY and is dead wrong all the way around.

    Favorite scene with

Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) - Going off on Detective Quinlan at the Hospital - thinking that she's there because of her. Jane explaining to her that she's there because of someone else.

Celeste (Nicole Kidman) - Hitting Mary Louise.

Jane (Shailene Woodley) - Confronting Mary Louise about taking Celeste's sons away from her and if she's going to take her son away from her.

Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) - Very upset that Celeste and Bonnie regret lying, are blaming her, and are talking about her with the others behind her back.

Renata (Laura Dern) - Meeting with a Bankruptcy Judge on a Saturday and thinking of Amabella.

Dont get me wrong, the show still has its great potensials, but I am worried about the lack of the original suspense/murder theme. They should build the show up to another murder among them through out the season. Or else I might think the show is going to end very weak and possibly get low ratings by the end of the season leading to the show getting canceled. However, it is HBO and I will have high hopes...
  • I wanted this show to be a minisseries as it was supposed, but of course I can't help myself from watching. Around the second episode I got excited that things were getting better but now I seriously doubt it. Everything seems very rushed and overacted. Of course the actors are amazing but I am not feeling the story and not creating empaty with any of them, which was why I loved the first season so much. I am rooting for something big soon, I hope the next episodes have an extra layer of deepness to support all the character's storylines and actions. Liane Moriarty is such a great storyteller, with a hand for detail, I miss that.

    Warning: Spoilers
Jean-Marc Vallée directed all episodes from series 1, and Andrea Arnold directed all from series 2. Well it was revealed in July 2019 that Andrea lost control with Jean-Marc being brought in to manage the edits. I feel bad for Andrea, who is British, that her authority was usurped.

Anyway, here Mary Louise is really playing hardball by applying to get custody of Celeste's sons. Is Mary Louise likeable? Celeste has a one night stand with a tattooed barman much to Mary Louise's chagrin.

Will the Monterey Five crack over their season 1 finale secret?

At the very end of the credits, guess what? There's a special thanks to Jean-Marc Vallée .

    Release the Arnold cut!
  • I LOVED THE BOOK. I loved season 1. This season is so poorly written. For example:

The bankruptcy judge was treating Laura Dern's character like trash. ANY woman would say "I did not break the law, HE did, this is not MY fault, so please get off my back! I didn't know anything about his crimes!!"

Also, when Meryl's character (who is ruining the show) was talking to Nicole's character - ANY woman would snap back - "You cannot possibly be blaming ME for your son raping another woman!!" She would also provide evidence, like pictures of her face, to prove to his delusional out-of-nowhere mother, that her son was in fact, a vicious abuser.

And ED, for the love of God!! How completely unbearable his character has become! I can't stand to see him on the screen.

Then, Meryl's character, who is supposed to be coming to terms w/who her son was, files for custody? To make her presence on the show that much more unsympathetic?? We watch for entertainment, not to be tortured by hateful characters. These woman mean something to us, stop destroying them.

I can't believe Liane M signed off on this mess. Or maybe I can, her last few books have been a shadow of her former talent. Rush jobs, without the complex plotting of her previous work. This season an affront to the fans of the book. If you loved the book & season 1, stop there. You'll be better off.
