The show takes place in Chicago, but is filmed in Toronto.
The character of Murphy Mason was based off of Molly Burke, a blind YouTuber with Retinitis Pigmentosa who lost the majority of her vision at age 14.
The cabin featured in Season 1, Episode 8 of The Umbrella Academy is the same cabin featured in Season 2 of In The Dark.
In January 2020 the show was renewed for a 3rd season. The second season was not impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
