  • This anime was so fascinating and there were new things happening to the main character so often that it kept things very interesting. The creators of this anime did an amazing job of getting you to care about every side character. Even if they only get a few lines, you get a glimpse into everyone's personalities and it was very impressive considering how many side characters there were. The animation was so beautiful! The creators also did a good job with the main character in my opinion. Even though she can be annoying, they only make her annoying long enough for you to understand that annoying-ness is part of her personality, but then the scene changes right around the time I start feeling negatively toward the character. Then we see positive sides to Phos as well, so to me, I thought they had a very good balance of showing how annoying Phos could be, without making you dislike her/him. The season does end with several cliffhangers in a way that feels a bit like they stopped in the middle of the season, rather than having a 'last episode of the season' feel to it. It didn't bother me too much, though my husband was quite annoyed at how many unanswered questioms there were, so how the season ends may bother some people more than others. Other than that, both of us loved this anime and I am actually going to watch it again soon because I loved it so much!
  • An anime with horribly beautiful graphics and special effects. One can love these colours and their shine. The autors of the anime have created very vivid beings. Additionally, the story is also very interesting and well worked. One of my favourite anime.
  • I don't have a lot to say about this anime, other than you have to watch it. The visuals are beautiful. The action and directing is fantastic. The tone just draws you in and creates a very distinct tone for this strange world. The characters are interesting, and the story leaves me with so many questions that I need as season two.
  • I'm a massive fan of well-done animes, and the last ones I rated really high were HunterxHunter, Tower of God, Violet Evergarden and Jujutsu Kaisen. I was looking for new ones to watch, and accidentally stumbled upon this imdb page... I couldn't even find it on animeheaven or crunchyroll, which really surprised me. So glad I gave it a try!

It's an absolutely unique and beautiful style. The characters are all fleshed out well and each one has a very interesting personality - including the main character Phos. The story engaged me from the very start and kept me interested all the way through; it's impossible to go into depth without spoiling too much though. It's funny, but also quite sad at times. A bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just really, really hope studio Orange make a second season - otherwise I will have to get into the manga to get the answers to all the questions I'm left with.
  • Houseki no kuni or land of the lustrous here in the west is a beautiful action/drama anime with great characters, breathtaking visuals and a brilliant soundtrack. Usually CGI visuals in an anime are sub par at best but in this anime the CGI is so fluent especially in fight scenes where it looks like something taken straight from spider-man into the spider verse. Also the music is fantastic with most of it being violins and pianos even the battle music sounds elegant! Definitely watch this one right away! Here in the west it is available on VRV, Amazon prime or DVD.
  • This anime made me fall in love with it. It is not just about the drawing. It is how it made fell that gem girls are real and how it gave me the emotions and personalities of the characters. I don't rate shows that I like with a 10 except if I enjoy every second of it and wish it will never come to an end. I watched a lot of opened ending animes so I wouldn't be surprised if there was no season 2 but I wish there will be because I don't want my journey with phos to end here. Thanks to the memes that made me know this anime and it is definitely need more recognition.

    omg
OMG this was one of the best animanga I have ever witnessed in quiet possibly my entire life, the plot, the uniqueness, the world building, and the visuals. Everything about this is amazing and I highly recommend the title.

Seriously, the visuals of the fields from the anime were pretty much the most outstanding scenes to say the least. As well, some of the characters such as Diamond, Bort, Padparadscha, Cinnabar and Phosphophyllite (only when she became older and maturier) are very likeable. It's good that they made the characters not look like Barbie dolls but just themselves. Now Diamond is like your typical "princess" type but damn, that chick knows to impress everyone with her kindness and her surprising assassin moves like the rest of them lol. I have to say, I was pretty surprised too that Pho turned out to be a badass in the end than a whiny wimp who was really useless when it comes to battles.

While watching this anime, I wasn't too keen on the pacing due to the fact scenes were dragging on and that nearly made me drop this anime altogether. Luckily it didn't otherwise I would've missed out on what the other episodes were to offer. Also I thought the enemies in this were always the same. I would've liked to have seen an extraordinary boss in the end so that we wouldn't have to asked for a season 2 to find out the actual ending for this series. I'm not gonna bother with the manga since the visuals would be missing from that.

Anyways regardless of the two hiccups I mentioned above, it's a grand anime to give a watch if you honestly can't figure out what anime you should watch next. 7/10 it deserves!

DO I EVEN NEED TO EXPLAIN HOW GOOD OF AN ANIME THIS IS? Why did nobody tell me about this earlier when the chance was given? It also deserves a lot of attention purely from the artstyle alone. Solid 10/10 one hell of an experience.
  • Every episode got better and better until about the halfway mark, and then they all get worse from there. Honestly, I thought I was going to be able to give this show a 9 around the half way mark, but then I just kept getting disappointed over and over again. I don't want to go too in-depth in this review, but a lot like with other unique shows they try too hard and end up being confusing, and then everything ends up unresolved in the end. Literally nothing in this show has any meaning, either. Everything that changes is either very small or changes for the worse. The way the main character charged pissed me off too, like yeah she's stronger but at what cost? And they don't even address it very much, it just kind of happens. I had hoped she would return back and everyone would realize that they liked the original her the best after all (even though it's cliche). That would be ten times better than the ending we got.

The main thing that makes me mad is that there is no story. Sure, we follow the emotional journey of one girl in the rock squad, but does anything really happen? Yes, she is changed in every way possible in the end, but is anything else really changed besides that? It would make this show much better if anything actually happened, like there was a showdown between the bones and the soul, or something else happened with the flesh. I don't know, it just feels like literally everything that happened in this entire show has literally no meaning in the grand scheme of things.

One thing I have zero complaints about is the animation. Goddamn is it spectacular. It's not like it's the most detailed animation ever, but goddamn is it awesome. This show pushed the bar so high up for 3D anime, it's not even funny. The second best looking 3D type anime is about forty times worse looking than this show. I don't think that it would have worked any other way either, just with how the characters are designed and how some stuff looks.

Overall, I REALLY wanted to like this show, and I did, but it ended up disappointing me in the end.
  • Episode 1, my first impression of this anime is the beautiful environment. It is really amazing, the whole view is just beautiful.

The characters are great. The story is amazing from the beginning 'till the end. It's really enjoyable with the artstyle and animation, really smooth!

Watching this anime is a great experience (:
  • This was not a good show. Fight scenes were interesting but repetitive. Our main character is useless always and gets everyone else killed around her. The whole time I felt like they should litterally just kill the main character cuz she was so useless and again, got her friends killed. It also doesn't have a real ending, it just stops randomly when she is going to go see someone. No season two and so u have to see the manga.

    yes
Oh yes. This is such a good anime, I recommend watching it a lot, because in just 12 episodes you will witness literal beauty that lasts for quite a surprisingly long time. It is also a masterpiece of a hidden gem if I can describe it in probably more words than just one. Anywho, I hope you guys liked this review as honestly Im not a person that makes reviews often, not to mention this being my first review and honestly I just need to know wether or not this was an actually good one, so thank you.

One of the best 3D CGI animation I ever watch with very good background ost. Characters especially Diamond, Stile, Bortz, Antarc, Cinnabar and ofcourse Phos were also interesting and loveable. But it didn't explain some points that are important, well it's manga is still ongoing, so maybe we get more details in season 2 if Studio Orange renew it.
  • Warning: Spoilers
There is one thing in this series, phos is shown as incapable of helping other in all delicate situation,at first phos is not strong later phos became capable of helping others but throughout anime and manga it is so frustrating that showing phos as a most incapable creature is really uncomfortable.when other put their life but phos cannot help other even after she changed physically and mentally strong other than that music is so good the concept is new and so exciting.

Without a shadow of a doubt 10 OUT OF 10 STARS! I've been obsessed with this show since 2018, and I've been keeping up with this story since then! Land of the Lustrous is one of the most carefully crafted, beautifully illustrated, and one of (if not) the best 3d animated anime series out there!

At first glance you might not think much of the visuals, the premise, or the characters. But if you give it a chance you can see just how gorgeous everything in this show is! The reflective shimmering lights of the Lustrous' hair, the beaming skies being swarmed by the darkness of the Lunarians, and the beautiful story of a character who can't seem to fit in with their role in the gem society.

The characters are also so incredibly complex! All of them have their flaws and their strives to be perfect, compassionate, needed, and wanted in this world they've crafted that makes those desires difficult to obtain. And it is the character of Phos, the most human of all of them, who challenges these established ways to the point where they become broken--literally!

All in all, there is so much beauty when it comes to this anime, and the manga continues that beauty to this day. You will connect with these characters on an emotional level, and you will want to see them succeed. I highly recommend this show to ANYONE, because it is criminally underrated and deserves more love!

This is an anime with no plot, strange characters that the viewer doesn't really care about, with no explanation why their world is like that, no deeper meaning.

The visuals are eerie, but there was some effort put into it, that's why it's not 1 star.
  • I first stumbled upon this series because of some similar character names with this in Steven Universe, but this show is nothing like that one, not in the slightest. It's about a group of beings who are composed of jewels/gems, fighting off invaders from the moon who try to eliminate them and take over. In the process, the characters, especially the protagonist, Phosphophyllite ("Phos"), one of the weaker jewel people, works to gain strength and respect, as she works to find herself. Sadly, there are no LGBTQ characters in this series. Even so, it's still worth watching. That is why I give it the current rating.

This show is grappling in its animation as well as in its story... it is one of its kind and IS NOT your basic anime, its lovely and more people should watch it. Some might get turned off because of the 3D animation but believe me it's 1000% worth it.

The premise surrounds a world were the beings that exists are made out special gems, each gem is unique and each gem acquires special powers. Our main character is the the youngest of all sisters, she has yet to develop and is quite the sensitive gem, but one thing causes another and she loses her arms and legs driving her to use other gem material in her body, and since this material is stronger it in turn causes her to develop strength and courage, something she did not have before. She turns out to be a strong female, and joins the battlefield against their enemies.

This anime was wonderful from beginning to end, its something different to enjoy from anime.

The only thing that can save this comic is the phrase "burn the bridge after you cross it." If this foreshadowing fails to reverse the course of the plot, word of mouth will explode. To be honest, Fass finally chose to forgive this development a lot of people were prepared for it, but the Moon and the Gem can live happily for 10,000 years without paying the slightest price for what they did and finally get crossed over, which is still disgusting. Buddhism is not about forgiveness, but about cause and effect. To do evil without having to pay for it is precisely against Buddhist thought. Moreover, The problem is that the moon man as a soul can not disappear without crossing over, which has implied that the moon is hell, according to the Japanese Buddha theory, women evil can become Buddha, after crossing over should be reincarnated to the blesseful pure land where Shakyamuni is, there will be no so-called punishment to... I think there is a high probability that there will be no more scenes after being crossed over, the last era is over, the bridge has been burned, and all that is left is the new era of Fass. By the way, "lay down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha" is a allusion, that is, a lay person has perfected his practice and will become a Buddha, the Buddha said that the Buddha position is full, can only kill one to make room for the position, and gave the lay person the butcher's knife; The lay did not kill the Buddha, but put down the butcher's knife, and as a result immediately became a Buddha.
  • The show looks great and seeing phos change was intresting however it is cut short the last few episodes set up a lot but there is no season 2 (most likly due to orange working on beastars) so the show acts as a ad for the manga if it gets greenlit for a s02 it is a easy 10/10.
  • I've seen plenty of anime now and this one felt really special, i enjoyed seeing the main character Phos evolve and the fights were all gorgeous and accompanied with whimsical music. The side characters were also interesting which is always a plus in my opinion. It made me really happy even if the plot wasn't the best! I recommend this to people who wanna see something new unlike the 'classic' my hero academia-esque type of stories. (i do like that show it's just not my favorite anymore)
  • Dude, I just finished watching 'Land of the Lustrous' and gotta say, it's unlike anything I've seen before. The whole concept with characters made out of gems fighting these moon creatures? Wild. And the animation is just mind-blowing - the way they've done the characters and the battles is super slick and pretty much eye candy. The story dives deep into themes like identity and purpose, which is pretty heavy but in a good way. It's cool seeing how each character, or gem, has their own vibe and struggles, making you actually care about what happens to them.

But here's the thing, while the story's deep and the visuals are top-notch, I felt like it could've used more action scenes. Sometimes, it gets so caught up in the emotional and philosophical stuff that it forgets to keep the adrenaline pumping. Don't get me wrong, the battles that do happen are epic, but there were moments when I was just craving more. Plus, the pacing can be a bit uneven, with some episodes flying by and others feeling a bit slow as they dive into the backstory or character development.

Overall, I'm giving 'Land of the Lustrous' an 8/10. It's got this amazing mix of beauty, depth, and a bit of existential dread that makes it really stand out. The unique plot and stunning animation are definitely worth the watch, even if you're left wanting a bit more action by the end. It's a solid series for anyone looking to dive into something different in the anime world - just be prepared for a ride that's as much about thinking as it is about fighting.
