I have to say - and it might be a guilty admission considering some of the other reviews - BUT I enjoyed this. It was entertainment. Lots of great Sydney scenery with sun and surf. It might not be the crime drama standard of Broadchurch but it keep me watching till the end. We know from the start who the killer is but I kept watching to see when they twigged that the killer was one of their own. I see from other reviews that some people don't like the romance aspect and I must admit it all picked up when it was just the chase for the serial killer. At one stage two of the main characters were discussing an engagement party while waiting for a loved one to identify a body. Like, really? I am sure real detectives can switch of their tumultuous love lives at such a moment. I thought the acting was great and the Hobbit guy played a creepy guy very well. Though he did seem to have a LOT of free time on his hands. I have a job where I have to be accountable for my time and can't leave for unexplained hours on end. But that is with the writers, not the actors. Another critique would be the murder sub plots separate from the serial killer plot were a bit simplistic. One more thing, I don't know where they filmed the inside of the police station but with the curved brick archways it looked like they must have grabbed some Sydney Greek restaurant on a quiet day!
  • I HATE the title of this show. I looked at it a few times before deciding I'd give it a go. I already watch quite a few really good crime drama's so adding another one didn't really appeal but I recognised a few of the actors so thought I'd watch one episode and take it from there.

I have to admit I like it. This show isn't just about the crimes committed so if you're looking for gore, guts and dexter-esque scenes then your going to be disappointed. This focuses on the complicated relationship between the leads and a few other characters while they work together in the homicide department. This isn't clear in the description so I can understand why some are disappointed when they watch it. I like that you find out who the killer is in the 1st episode then after that you can see all the connections the detectives can't.

I ended up watching the 1st 3 episodes back to back. This isn't a ground breaking show but I find myself investing in the characters.
  • I found this show on the internet. It's from Australia. It's a cop show with a love triangle. It's got a variety of people bitten by sharks who cope with it. The cops solve murders while a serial killer lurks among them. I find it entertaining. If you want a decent fun show and a little escapism...this is it. 8.

I enjoy a good cop series with strong dedicated characters that get stuck into solving crime. However these guys are hell bent on saving their love lives with a complete detachment to the job The directors lack the capacity to tell the story visually and instead smash us constantly with tight shots of faces that we barely know and we miss once again the important aspects of the crime scene. Sorry guys.... just the same old stuff! Boring.

Better than any other crap on tv ( home and away, ect)

Okay, so some cops were bitten by sharks. You can't make an entire television show about that, but Bite Club is attempting to do just that. The police drama is incidental to the romantic entanglements of the cops - everybody is either sleeping with everybody else or trying to - consequently the "crime" part of this "crime drama" is almost like an afterthought. And a very ill-conceived afterthought at that.

In the first episode, the killer turns out to be the guy who was the prime suspect all along, and his motives are never explained. Insurance scheme gone bad? That's my guess, but half a minute's worth of dialog could have clarified it. In the second episode, the killer is just some random stranger --in fact, I think they use those exact words to describe him - who shows up for the first time in the final ten minutes of the show and blurts out a confession, despite the fact that the police don't have a shred of evidence against him.

And the romances are no more believable than the police action. Officer Zoe is sleeping with the police psychiatrist who has to certify her ex-boyfriend as fit to return to duty. In what universe would that be acceptable professional conduct? The superintendent is sleeping with one of her detectives - one of her married detectives. Are we supposed to believe there are no professional standards at all in Australia?

So what we have here is a crime drama that can't handle crime or drama. There's no mystery or suspense, and there's no way to become invested in relationships that are so inappropriate one wonders why the police department's human resources officer isn't a major character. I'm amazed this show ever got made in the first place...

More and more hooked as the series has gone on. Great story lines
  • What's not to love? Beautiful Manly Beach in Sydney as a location, good Aussie actors, beautiful people, beautiful photography and a murder mystery with twists.
  • Feels like Wonderland/Home&Away/ every other Australian 'soap'. Just a darker underscore. Directed by poor story tellers. Audiences are not interested in the soapy lives of weak characters. It's about crime but we hardly delve into the most interesting aspects of those who conceive and carry out the crimes committed. Instead we suffer through talking heads of the same actors desperately trying to give meaningful performances. We aren't shown the story. It's just jibberish and adolescent. They have brought in one 'star' in hopes of gaining an audience but inevitably we are tortured with the same tired product.

I think it was great, I love seeing aussie actors in different roles and loved the suspense that was in each show and the frustration of knowing what's going on but waiting for them to work it out!!
  • The Australian film/TV industry is decades old and this is what gets dished up in 2018 ?! God help us. To think this can compete on the international stage is the definition of self delusion. With scripts, acting and directing we have just got to do better, and we can.

    10/10
    Bite!
We might know who the killer is but the wrist and turns add to the suspense in every episode. The last one will get your adrenaline going

What a great series. Good actors. The plot twists and turns shows great writing script.

The script and plot in this series is seriously unbelievable!

The original idea was, perhaps, good but the story and lack of credibility makes it so unbelievable that it really is not worth it as a "Cop" show or "Who dunnit" show.

A psychopath who can walk into houses during the day in Sydney, dump a body off a narrow one way track, stalk people through a hospital amongst other fanciful story lines is simply not believable!

Also, get some real legal or police advisers on the set. To arrest a person on the premises because they find hair in a freezer that has not yet been DNA tested and a broken SIM card when the data and phone number hasn't yet been determined is just a joke! Pleeeeeeease! Get some credibility into the story line!

Not to mention the fact of one of the main actors who is supposed to have a prosthetic leg from the knee down who doesn't limp until the 7th episode when he is about to be arrested!

Not to mention the scene where the 2 water skis, the boat and 2 other water craft are searching for another person in the water and all of that is within an area of about 50m by 50m and mention is made of divers searching... no dive boat or flags? And what about the obvious shark net that you would check first.... sooooo unbelievable.

It is such a shame when the show might have had potential. The idea of such a show is to try and get the audience guessing and involved. All you got from me was disbelief!
  • My wife and I so enjoyed every episode and especially the very exciting ending. Please say you have another series lined up for retired people like us.

This TV show is absolutely ridiculous! Have they not seen or are aware of sharks and the facts surrounding these animals. Bite Club and the idea of sharks as predators against humans is not the right publicity for these amazing animals. As a diver - sharks are not the issue its people and the way they present sharks is the issue. Do not watch thus series!
  • Even though we know who the killer is I'm really enjoying the journey and just wondering how and when the penny will drop

The show overall is average at best. Clunky scripts, average acting and unbelieveable concepts but could still be enjoyable.

My biggest issue is the "dog handler"/serial killer character. His back story is revealed to be that he's from England but has a clear American accent. Despite being a dog handler for the police force, which I would assume takes a lot of training and experience within the force to achieve, he brags about finally getting handcuffs when he becomes a detective. This just seems stupid and like the writers haven't seen real police before. For the first 3 or 4 episodes when he's working as a dog handler, it's like he doesn't own any other clothes. Constantly walking around in his uniform on every occasion. Why? And infuriatingly, wearing his radio microphone up on his shoulder. This wouldn't be practical in the real world and most police i've seen either attach it to a shirt pocket or to the shirt buttons at the front. Finally, he applies for a job as a detective. During this process he makes comments to his superintendent and to another colleague basically telling them both that he knows they are having an affair. He gets denied his opportunity and suddenly a video showing the two colleagues comes out and no one suspects its him at all... With some policing consultants and perhaps some better writing, the show would be much more enjoyable.

Final few minutes: we see remains of a human body with an "incisor" missing; the upper left incisor. Detective Constable Dan Cooper speaks of a case some years before where victim had "right incisor" recently removed. Next scene: dog-handler Senior Constable Stephen Langley opens tin containing several teeth. MOLARS not incisors. Red herring or boo boo? (rating is based on the boo boo theory!)

Watched week 1 and liked it. Week 2 hmmm. Week 3 changed the channel. For me the annoyance was the very ordinary overseas actor Monaghan. Australia you can do so soooo much better than this. Where has our great television industry gone...the days of the great Crawford productions.!

    Absolutely terrible.

    What were the creators thinking.
