Judd Apatow is warning against the rise of rewatching and the implications it has for streamers not to greenlight new series.
The writer/director/producer told Vulture that Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO licensing shows like “Sex and the City” to Netflix is just a recent example of limiting audiences’ “content” options, which is no doubt “cheaper than making new ones.”
“I’m of two minds,” Apatow said of the rise of viewers rediscovering older series. “There’s a part of me that’s an audience member: I’ll go back and rewatch ‘Deadwood’ or ‘NYPD Blue’ or any of the David Milch shows. I understand why people like the comfort food of television. But it’s a scary thing as a creator of television, because of all the streamers going, ‘Wait a second. We don’t need to spend $200 million on a new show. We can just bring back “Barnaby Jones.

The BBC received more than 100 complaints from Doctor Who viewers who argued that the inclusion of Yasmin Finney’s transgender character Rose was “inappropriate.”
The corporation has revealed it had 144 messages from disgruntled viewers in its fortnightly report on audience complaints. Some said Heartstopper star Finney’s character was “anti-male,” while others said it was an “inappropriate inclusion of [a] transgender character.”
The Star Beast special was watched by more than 7.6M people meaning the complainants make up a tiny proportion of the audience. It is not unusual for the BBC to receive complaints over transgender storylines or reporting, but the corporation will likely stand by the representation of Rose in Doctor Who.
Finney features as the daughter of Shaun and Donna in the 2023 specials. Her family supports her transition, but is depicted by writer Russell T Davies as still coming to terms with her pronouns.

If you’d polled a million Doctor Who fans last week asking them to predict what would happen in “Wild Blue Yonder” – the second of three 60th anniversary specials – not a single one of them would have come close to guessing what that wild ride of an episode entailed. This leaves us wondering: what on earth have they got lined up for “The Giggle”, the third and final episode?
Some things we’ve known for a while: David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be back as the fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble, Neil Patrick Harris will play The Toymaker – a Who villain that we haven’t seen on TV since the sixties – and Jemma Redgrave is back as Unit boss Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.
Pretty much everything else we know has been gleaned from cryptic glimpses in teasers and trailers – so let’s put all the evidence we have so far together:...

Official confirmation that Yasmin Finney is playing Donna Noble's daughter Rose debunks a major theory for the 60th anniversary specials. Donna Noble's memories of the Tenth Doctor have likely influenced and inspired her daughter Rose, who has taken on the name Rose Temple-Noble. There is a failsafe implanted in Donna's mind that can save her life if triggered, suggesting that her memories may be restored in the 60th anniversary specials.
The official confirmation that Yasmin Finney is playing Doctor Who's new Rose might have debunked a major Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) theory for the 60th anniversary. The BBC recently confirmed on social media what Doctor Who fans had suspected for months; that Yasmin Finney's Rose is the daughter of Donna Noble and her husband Shaun Temple (Karl Collins). The Doctor last saw Donna and Shaun when the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) watched their wedding from afar in his final adventure,...

While That ‘90s Show is not perfect, there are a handful of things that the Netflix spinoff does better than its predecessor, That ‘70s Show. It is never easy for a spinoff to recapture the success of its predecessor. If a spinoff’s tone is too close to the original show, it will feel redundant, but if the new show's tone feels too different, the two series won’t feel like they are related. For every success story like Young Sheldon or The Conners, there are many cautionary tales like Joey that could put viewers off checking out the latest sitcom spinoff.
Fortunately, That ‘90s Show largely falls in the former category. From Jackie and Kelso’s That ‘90s Show reunion to the return of Eric and Donna, the Netflix sitcom spinoff did have its fair share of shameless nostalgic moments. However, That ‘90s Show season 1 also spent much screen...
