In June 2019 it was announced that Henry Cavill will take on the iconic role of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes in Legendary's "Enola Holmes," starring Millie Bobby Brown. "Killing Eve" helmer Harry Bradbeer will direct with "His Dark Materials" writer Jack Thorne adapting the script.

Jack Thorne wrote the script for the story, which involves a missing teen whose father has been murdered, so it May be based on the first novel In the book series "The Mystery of the Missing Marquess."

Production on "Enola Holmes" is expected to start summer of 2019.

Based on the Nancy Springer book series "The Enola Holmes Mysteries," which follows Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes' much younger sister, Enola.

Helena Bonham Carter was cast in June 2019 to play the mother of Sherlock and Enola Holmes.

According to Variety, star Millie Bobby Brown will also produce through her PCMA Productions banner, while Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes will oversee the project for Legendary. Legendary and Brown have built a strong relationship after the "Stranger Things" star was tapped to topline "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," so the studio was quick to attach her to this film after she wrapped filming on GKOTM and Godzilla vs Kong.

It was announced in April 2020 that Netflix acquired the rights to premier it on their streaming service rather than the film getting a theatrical run.

Deadline announced in June 2019 that Adeel Akhtar, who was recently seen opposite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Netflix's "Murder Mystery," has landed a role in the film. It is unknown which character he will play.
