  • Warning: Spoilers
This is the movie what we need to watch but Indian audience don't deserve this masterpiece as they'll go and dance on Tiger and Salman craps. Thank you Hardik Mehta for showing much needed tribute to the 80s and 90s cinema, tribute to the 'Character/Supporting/Side/Junior Artists' who from now on are also onscreen heroes. This also kinda exposes the hypocrisy of film industry how they treat them and also our own how we just ignore them or see them for a while thinking 'isko kahi dekha hai' while for stars just run behind them for a God damn Selfie. Har Kisse ke Hisse Kaamyab blends the drama, humor, parody and tribute to the Indian cinema we've loved and yet make us explore the other side for real actors.

Sanjay Mishra(yes our very own Dhondu just chill bhai) shows his range of versatility not only in his usual comic self but also emotionally heart wrenching scenes where you feel for the character. Avatar Gill playing himself was rather treat to watch. Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar, Devika Vats, Akashdeep Arora and other actors have done their part well.

The best scene of this film was the climax where Sanjay Mishra entertained entire crowd with his antics yet all of this was ignored after the entry of 'film star' symbolizing our love for 'fake stars' than the real actors, a rather reflection of real life where people will go watch 'Star' Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 3 and ignore this gem. Go for it Indian audience if you truly want entertainment! And lastly, thanks a lot SRK for backing this film.
  • The start of the film where a displeased Sanjay Mishra is expressing in yet another "Yellow journalistic" piece, is so biting it chews out what's wrong with the Indian society today when it comes to treating and recognizing artists. These journos are good at "buttering" up senior artists by requesting their "punch lines/dialogues" yet salivate the moment the current crop of "next gen" enters into the fray. The old phrase, "Hair today, gone tomorrow" can easily be retro-fittted as "Here today, gone perhaps tomorrow" because that's what Kaamyaab is all about and it's scathing to see Director Hardhik Mehta go all out with the story and screenplay writing.

A lot of the film reminds of a scene in Kamal Haasan's "UTTAMA VILLAIN (2015) (The Optimal villain) (TAMIL). Haasan played an aging superstar who has a brain tumor in the film, but the scene where he attends a Talk show, the emcee asks him, why he continues to pursue cinema? Haasan in a cheeky way, remarks, "It's for the applause." Sanjay Mishra's Sudheer and his 499 film legacy, while insisting on going for the 500-record, is near-reminiscent of Haasan's goals. For applause.

The film also doesn't shy away from taking potshots at the nepotism (yes the debate has been beaten to death), and at the short-minded audience, who seek fame given the current trends no matter how kitchen-sink and dismembered (read: Remixes of your evergreen Hindi songs..*cough cough T-Series*) your memories are.

But the icing on the cake was the climax. I think next to SADMA's climax (where Reshmi (Late Sridevi) fails to recongize Somu (Haasan) ), this one is another gut-wrenching one. Here, the annual day function organizers are in pinch when the rising Rahul Chopra is running late to make a "appearance" so they reconigize Sudheer and request him to entertain the audience for 10 minutes. Sudheer obliges and in doing-so the audience is indulged by finishing the punch dialogues. The punch-in-the-gut moment was when Rahul Chopra finally appeared, the spotlight suddenly shone on him, as Sudheer ended his act, on the stage ground, while the curtains close on him. To the Indian mentality, character (senior) artists not given their dues are just here today, gone tomorrow when another (star) shows up. Sad realities.

In the age of Kapoors/Khans and their share of fans bombarding them, why not pay the same to the character artists. After all, they are what they are, characters.
  • As expected from all time one of best offbeat actor Sanjay Mishra. Movie explored the frustration, complexity , competition a side actor has to face in a wonderful way.

    Super
Its a must watch. No one shud miss this film. All the actors have gone great job. Just chill dhondhu is super as always
  • Outstanding realistic performance by every cast and every segment of the movie making .Director has done excellent job in executing the movie
  • I wonder why he hasn't received an academy award for this performance. We wet over so many Hollywood actors like AlPacino or Brando or De Niro but our own Sanjay Mishra is just as good as them and its our poor fate that we are so late in recognizing how incredibly talented this actor is. Its high time we respect the actors rather than stars, talent rather than the fame. So many happy tears at the end of the film, do watch Kaamyab, its a masterpiece that deserves all the appreciation.

  • Movie is a true ode to all the character actors in Hindi Cinema.

If u love to feel nostalgic about 70s, 80s, 90s movies' world, Stories & almost famous-side actors ..., u will love this movie.

It is an attempt which focuses on the sad truth of side role actors like (Sudhir, Kiran Kumar, Avtaar Gill, Asrani, Guddi Maruti, Deepak Tijori, Birbal, late Viju Khote, Goga Kapoor, A K Hangal, Dina Pathak, Vikram Gokhle etc etc) and also tries to honour them all.

Sanjay Mishra is good comedian n a good Actor.
  • Beautifully made, a picture of our so called "side actors", they are the pillars of bollywood and this film is tribute to those 1000s of artists. A must must movie. Sanjay Mishra again on fire as always.
  • This film was on my radar for quite some time and unfortunately it didn't release in my city but thankfully Netflix gave me the chance to see this beauty.

Kaamyaab tells the story of Sudheer, a side actor who worked in the film industry for many decades. Whilst doing an interview after his retirement he comes to find out he did 499 films in his career. This leads Sudheer to make a comeback and reach the milestone that is 500 films.

Bollywood always focuses on the lead actor/actress and puts them front and centre of their movies but we very rarely put our attention on the actors supporting them. We never get know the names of the actors who play the henchmen of the villain, the doctor who gives the bad news or the lawyer who loses the case. Well, writer-director Hardik Mehta decides to change that and makes a film dedicated to all the side/supporting/character actors that we never got to know.

The film starts off with this amazing montage of classic 70s and 80s style films focusing on the supporting actors. It's very nostalgic to a lot of people who watched films during that time and it showed Mehta's love of the film industry. Mehta takes us through the life of an unknown actor and presents it in a very realistic manner. We get to see how these people live and the struggle many aspiring actors go through to get a role. Kaamyaab also reveals secrets about the industry, the importance and love of a family and the dreams people have coming to Mumbai.

Not only that, Hardik Mehta managed to bring us actors who lived through that very life. We get to see the likes of Lilliput, Guddi Maruti, Manmauji, Viju Khote and many more make an appearance for us to give a huge amount of respect to. Avtar Gill plays a version of himself here and is fun to watch. We also see Deepak Dobriyal play casting director Gulati who is great in his role. The standout is Sanjay Mishra, a man who's been in this position for his career, and to see him play the lead couldn't have been a better casting choice. He plays Sudheer with utmost sincerity and makes you feel for him he reaches a low point. He is especially brilliant in the film's climax which beautifully conveys the power of a star in comparison to that of a side actor.

Whilst the film has emotion, I felt it wasn't fully developed. The relationship Sudheer has with his daughter and his neighbour Isha needed to be fleshed out more and the scene of Sudheer imagining everyone in his home didn't fit with the style this film was going for. The songs didn't contribute much to the film either.

Overall, Kaamyaab is a great film. I loved the concept and how Hardik Mehta decided to approach it. This is a film that will go unrecognised by many people and I feel it's one that people should see in order to respect all the actors that go unnoticed.
  • As expected from actor of sanjay mishra caliber a nice tribute to all those wonderful supporterting actors
  • My Rating : 7/10

This is a delightful movie about a different kind of Bollywood - the everyday, in the trenches kind where the struggle is actually real and failures and rejections are a part and parcel no matter your previous successes!

Sanjay Mishra, a veteran Hindi actor with over 170 credits to his name, is perfect for the protagonist's role. While there are other actors such as Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal there's something magical about Sanjay Mishra which makes for a unique kind of melancholy - Mishra is a master of his craft and his presence on screen always leaves us rolling on the floor laughing even in the saddest parts without diluting the character's true sorrow.

'Kaamyaab' is an honest portrait of a waning side-actor as they are called in Bollywood and how no matter how hard or prolific your career may have been you will always be a nobody to the masses and remembered for 'Bas enjoying life, aur option kya hai?'-type line from some old 80's film from your cannon of 499.

A deeply affecting film - Hindi cinema needs more of this and less SOTYs and Love Aaj Kals.
  • The resemblance this film has with the 2014 American black comedy-drama film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu called "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) are just too many.

Not to go into the plot first, but just what I saw in the trailer, even the set pieces look very similar. for instance scene where the lead actor is performing on stage in a theatre, him throwing his wing in the air, him smashing the mirror, even the dreamy lighting in the scene where he is drinking in the trailer, reminds of some similar scenes in the Birdman.

and the Plot - A veteran actor, gone bald, wants to do something better for himself His friend helping him get new gig, believing in him, his daughter constantly telling him he cant do it, reminding him his failures, him going trough the humiliation.

All these are just assumptions, and I might be totally wrong, and I hope this will be as good a Birdman.
  • The movie is just like a sweet delicious dish after a heavy meal. It will show u struggle, fight at someone's lowest point if life and the joy of achievement at the end

It teaches us to see life with lens of happiness

All the actors did their best job Sanjay mishra , deepak dobrial played their part extraordinarily

Thanks to manish mundra for such a gem

The director did a incredible job

    Amazing
Sanjay Mishra should be awarded best actor for this role.
  • Warning: Spoilers
After having seen Peeping Tom (1960-also reviewed) at the location last week,I decided to take a look at what was currently showing at the HOME cinema in Manchester, where I found out a screening was soon to take place as part of their "Not just Bollywood" season, which led to me exploring Sudheer's filmography.

    View on the film:

Covering the 499 credits that Sudheer had built up over the 70's and the 80's, co-writer/(with Radhika Anand) director Hardik Mehta makes his solo feature film debut by closely working with Piyush Puty on hilarious fake Action, Horror and Thriller clips of Sudheer's cult past credits, bursting with primary colours over crash-zooms on the kitsch overacting.

Letting the years fly by in montages to the present, Mehta counters the dazzle of Sudheer's glory years with tight close-ups on the lines running across his face, marking the decades he has been out of the spotlight.

Grasping at hope for one last chance, Mehta brings things back to reality, with stylish panning shots of Sudheer in the middle of a film shoot, out of synch with the modern movie world, but in playful slo-mo shots, getting back into the groove of his family life.

Taking a unique path to Sudheer's return to the film world, via being shown his IMDb page for the first time and discovering he has 499 acting credits, the screenplay by Mehta and Anand rolls out amusing red carpet punch-lines at the star-driven film industry, where anyone who is not the star gets brushed aside, and posters of the latest big name/big film, line the streets looking down at Sudheer.

Introducing him to fans of his 499 other films that quote dialogue from his most cult flicks, the writers brilliantly take the one last job set-up of gangster films into Sudheer's drive that his 500th screen credit will be one people won't forget, which results in upturning the family which Sudheer all but forgotten about, whilst living in the fading memory of the spotlight.

Having played similar types of supporting roles to what Sudheer did,Sanjay Mishra gives an incredible performance as Sudheer, whose decades spent always in the supporting role Mishra carries on his shoulders, with dreams of finally hitting the big time, having Sudheer discover with a warmth from Mishra, his family behind the scenes.
  • This movie is the "the birdman" of hindi film industry. The story of an charecter artist, who is a father, a lonely guy, popular but unrecognisable personality, and an artistic. No one could play this role as Sanjay Mishra did. Mr Nasiruddin might thinking "what an script! Why they didn't cast me for the role". Actually the audiences who love 80s off track hindi movie, will admire the "Kaamyaab". Red chillis entertainment should get a big thanks for producing such good content.
  • He used to be a supporting actor in bollywood - hes like an aloo - he can be added to any dish - he can appear in any form n make his presence felt - he was very popular in the eighties but today things have changed drastically as star kids have invaded the industry - sanjay mishra delivers a superlative performance in #Kaamyaab - u will love him - hardik mehtas direction is spot on - watch it - rating 3/5.
  • Har Kisse Ke Hisse Kaamyaab (Netflix) - It's true that the lead actors create the impressions that make movies memorable. It's the hero, heroine and villain that bask in the limelight, create a glorious career, make pots of money and leave a legacy behind. "Har Kisse..... Kaamyaab" is not about them though, it is about an artist Sudheer (Sanjay Mishra), an aged character actor who has done innumerable roles of a wide variety in his younger days, but has no achievement to boast about. He lives alone in an ordinary and old apartment in a sedentary life until one day during an interview he is told that he needs only one more film to reach his 500th appearance and that could be exemplary to the young generation of his home town. It isn't easy for him to reconnect and get his touch back - he is rusty, obsolete and fallen far behind in the race for recognition, but his ego feels bruised at the contemptuous attitude he faces at the hands of the new crop. It's for him to come to terms and settle down with reality.

It's Sanjay Mishra all the way - his diversity and flawless rendition fills the canvas for a wholesome entertainment. The first half is comical and lighthearted whilst the latter is thought provoking and serious, tugging at the heartstrings for the ageing professionals who have to run so much faster to stay relevant.
  • Best performance by him till date , excellent each and every scene he just shines , excellent movie !
  • This film is the rare gem in the Bollywood. Not many films you will come across carrying this genre. Apart from making those masala movies, where the recipe is the same of every movie, this is the actual art.. the art of storytelling.. the art of directing.. the real art of drama as a whole!

Each and every shot in the film is relevant to the story. There's no pretentious showcasing of glamour just to make movie look nice. We don't need to talk about acting of Sir Sudhir Mishra, his acting talent is always outstanding. I was actually delighted to see Deepak Dobriyal in the movie and he did his role in the most perfect way. These are the actors that never disappoint.

This movie takes you on the journey into the life of an ageing side actor named Sudheer, played by Sudhir Mishra himself. By the time he has retired, he has completed 499 movies in his career (as a sidekick in all of them). Being unknown to this fact of his, he considers himself as an actor who has no presence in the minds of people in today's time even after playing so many characters in the Bollywood. What he believes is, a sideactor remains as a side actor for whole of his life and has no worth. His analogy of considering himself as 'aloo' is actually convincing. Now when he realizes the fact that he is only 1 movie short to complete the record of 500 titles in his career, the spark of acting comes back in his life. Now he decides to get a good memorable role for his 500th film so that he becomes immortal in the memories of the viewers for that very role.

This whole film is the story ahead of how he gets the role and it so perfectly covers the insights in the life of a struggling actor, or the actor who has aged now and is no more famous. The most important part of the film is in the end, the phase of self-discovery.

Now, the message I guess the movie wants to spread is 'everybody is kamyaab in their own way'. Its not like we have to do this particular thing to prove the world that we are successful. And the other thing this movie conveys is no matter how brilliant a side actor is, but the fame and stardom always stays attached only to the lead actors or so called heroes.
  • A wathable film but I can't digest it's 8.1 rating on IMDb. If ratings are to be believed, this has to be better than Birdman.

I don't really expect anything from the mainstream Bollywood. Kaamyab was released against a biggie Baaghi3, after watching later's trailer I don't think anyone would be interested in watching it. Corona scare affected their chances at box office. The real strength of Bollywood lies in it's low budget films, which are often better than the commercial filth. For this reason, I had expectations from this one. And I would say it's a dissapointment .

Kaamyaab deals with life of a retired side kick of Bollywood (Sudhir)who was famous in 80's. On one hand, he sees a chance to restart his career, on other, he has an option to live happily with his family like other old people do. He just can't digest that he is not famous enough now and is always demanding more, he choose the former and ignores his family.

We have seen similar films in the past. The story us actually similar to Marathi drama Natsamrat at some points. But not superior to it. It's a little more dramatic. The drama does not let the characters settle. The emphasis is only on Sudhir while rest of them virtually have no role. The film does not deal with his feelings, but rather with the story (i.e, the drama).

That said, it's just a good film for comic relief but not an accurate portrayal of success, failure or anything.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This Movie has no happy ending nor encouragement. This movie shows that old actor should not try again.

Ending should be good,, old actor Sudheer ji should get some praise and respect from the people who humilated him.. ( avtar, other movie staff ) He should achieve a last small and adorable role, which fullfeel his last dream. And get some respect for dedication of his work.. He should not have last memories of humiliation from industry.. In the End all the people, avtar and even the movie actor rahul chopda should praise and cheer him for his life of work..

But rather than the film industry shows us that the old actors are boring and they have no potential to do any more work.

I salute to sanjay mishra for his good acting. but i dont like the story ending.
  • Kaamyaab : A Perfect Tribute to all the Character artists of Cinema. I'm not going to talk about the plot because this film is created to show respect to the real backbones of cinema. Brilliant performances by the entire cast, and I'm noone to talk about the performance of the legend, the myth Sanjay Mishra. So I'm going to say why this film is important to watch for a cine lover. And I'm sure You'll literally cry after watching the movie if you have true love for cinema. First of all we all want stars and beauty but not the real artists. The supporting actors are not those who are always there beside the hero or heroine, but those who support the whole movie with their own hands. There are many actors, whose names are not known to us but their character name and dialogues always remain with us. They are the one for which the film shines. This film is also important for them who want to go to the industry. Because after Luck By Chance, this film is the one where you can see the real industry and how it works.

    #A_Must_Watch for Cinema Lovers.
