Which Actor Was The First Choice To Play Steve In A Minecraft Movie? (Photo Credit – YouTube)
Who would’ve thought the pixelated boy from your favorite sandbox game would become a movie star? But hey, it’s 2025, and A Minecraft Movie is officially a thing. Even more bonkers? Jack Black is playing Steve. Yes, that Steve, the silent, blocky builder who punches trees with his bare hands. But the plot twist is that the actor almost didn’t get the part!
The role of Steve nearly went to another Hollywood favorite (we’ll get to that tea later), but thankfully, destiny, or casting directors, said, “Let’s give this square hero some serious chaotic energy.” Jack Black’s casting is pure genius. He has got the comedic chops, the voice, and that lovable weirdness to turn Steve from a silent avatar into a full-blown action-comedy icon. Whether he’s battling...

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing series adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” A teaser trailer dropped online a month ago, now a full trailer has arrived and you can watch it in the embed above!

Today, fans are finally able to give Chuck Krantz the beefy thank you that he’s long deserved, as the official trailer for Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck has finally been released. Following a first look at CinemaCon in Las Vegas just two weeks ago, the rest of the world can now feast their eyes on the latest offering to come from famed filmmaker Flanagan and legendary genre author Stephen King. The best part about The Life of Chuck is that it diverges from the typical fare that audiences have seen in the past from both Flannigan and King, largely breaking out of the horror mold and taking audiences on an existential journey to rediscover the wonders of life alongside a cast led by Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Karen Gillan (Oculus).

Ghosts are ubiquitous and zombies have had their moments of dominance, but of all the classic horror monsters, vampires have the strongest claim for the greatest film legacy. The vampire genre is nearly as old as cinema itself, with F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” scaring up audiences in 1922, followed by the countless iterations that came in its shadow. Every era and every filmmaking country has since taken up its own spins on the myth of the vampire, from Universal Studios’ “Dracula” series beginning with Tod Browning’s Bram Stoker adaptation in 1931, all the way up to Iranian-American director Ana Lily Amirpour’s indie feminist twist “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” in 2014.
2024 has not exactly been a banner time for brilliant takes on the horror genre’s most iconic creatures of the night, with the most notable bloodsucking project to come out this calendar year being the fun but ultra-silly “Abigail.

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan's latest big-screen collaboration, Sinners, can do no wrong among critics, earning a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Warner Bros. supernatural thriller makes history thanks to this coveted feat before its anticipated Easter premiere.
Currently, Sinners is the highest-rated vampire film in Rotten Tomatoes history, thanks to its 100% critical score on the review aggregator. Sinners' closest competition is the Swedish vampire movie, Let the Right One In (98%), with F.W. Murnau's original Nosferatu film (97%) and Taiki Waititi's mockumentary, What We Do in the Shadows (96%) right behind.
Time will tell if Sinners maintains that perfect rating once the film begins its cinematic run this week. However, the critical reviews, which praised Jordan's dual-role performance and the original story by Coogler, indicate that Coogler and Jordan have found gold together again with their latest joint effort. Jack Black has found another incredibly successful film to be a part of as one of the stars of A Minecraft Movie. If not for production delays, however, it could have been another beloved comedy genre star who portrayed the live-action Steve on the big screen.
Per Puck, What We Do in the Shadows star Matt Berry was the original casting choice for Steve in A Minecraft Movie. The claim coincides with a previous casting report in 2023 that Berry was set to join the film, though his role was not divulged at the time. The new Puck report suggests that Berry had been brought in to play Steve, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023 wound up pushing back the production. The result was that Berry was no longer available to play the Steve role due to scheduling conflicts, at which point the role was recast.

Apple TV+ subscribers looking for something to fill the Severance-shaped hole in their lives might want to consider plugging into Murderbot, a new sci-fi series starring and executive produced by Alexander Skarsgård, premiering globally this May. The latest trailer offers prospective audiences their best look yet at the comedic thriller that follows a rogue security unit as it searches for the meaning of life but finds that it would much rather be watching TV, having tuned in for 7532 hours of content — and counting — including The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon, a fictional show within the show that stars John Cho, Jack McBrayer, Clark Gregg, and DeWanda Wise.
When Skarsgård's titular Murderbot is not channel surfing and binge-watching soap operas, it's involved in dangerous missions that see it live up to its name and programming. One clip in the trailer (shared below) shows the killing machine going up against a...

Unless you’ve been living under a perfectly square CGI rock, you’re probably aware that A Minecraft Movie is a massive hit at the box office. This isn’t a huge surprise, considering that it appeals to both kids and Zoomers who grew up with the video game — plus all the people who just want to spend an hour and forty minutes watching literally anything other than the complete collapse of the global economy.
But the film is also notable for reuniting one of the most popular musical comedy duos of the 21st century: Flight of the Conchords.
Well, sort of.
Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that both Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are credited in A Minecraft Movie. This is significant because the two haven’t performed together since the 2018 special Flight of the Conchords: Live in London.

Matt Berry, the British comedian and actor who has starred in everything from The I.T. Crowd and What We Do in the Shadows to Fallout and, most recently, A Minecraft Movie, has one of those voices that just makes any project he's in 10 times better. The actor lent that voice to A Minecraft Movie, playing a villager who falls in love with Jennifer Coolidge's Marlene. But, before he was cast as Nitwit, Matt Berry nearly had a much larger role in Minecraft, and it would have completely changed the film.
Jack Black's line deliveries as Steve have become online sensations. But, imagine if the words "Chicken jockey!" were delivered by Matt Berry's unique English accent. According to a report from Puck, Matt Berry was almost cast as Steve in A Minecraft Movie, before Jack Black was ultimately given the role. The series finale of 1923 provided a fitting, devastating conclusion to the show, and now the 2025 Emmys will be the final time for it to be awarded.
Featuring an intense shootout, a shocking death, and main characters meeting for the very first time, the last episode of the second season stays true to fashion in tying all the storylines together with the central Dutton family. For the entire season, fans have been anxiously waiting for the reunion of Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer), who were separated in the Season 1 finale. They finally reunited in the penultimate episode with the latter being pregnant.
Though that reunion was short-lived as Spencer leaves to protect his family's ranch against Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and Banner Creighton's men. However, Creighton (Jerome Flynn) himself has a change of heart and saves patriarch Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) in the shootout, before being killed. Once Alexandra...

What Did A Minecraft Movie Director Jared Hess Say About The Post-Credits Scene? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Just when you thought digging dirt and dodging creepers was the peak of Minecraft excitement, along comes A Minecraft Movie, and yes, it’s as wild as it sounds. This live-action adventure, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), levels up the sandbox game’s pixelated chaos into a big-screen spectacle.
The plot? A ragtag group of humans gets zapped into the blocky Overworld and teams up with none other than Minecraft’s original legend, Steve, to collect relics and stop a pigling overlord from turning everything into lava toast.
The cast is straight-up stacked, Jason Momoa brings the muscle, Danielle Brooks delivers the heart, Emma Myers brings the grit, and Sebastian Hansen rounds out the party. It’s basically your dream co-op squad, just with higher stakes and fewer snack breaks. And just when the credits roll,...

With any big-budget IP movie, there is now an expectation of the post-credit scene. Given the size of A Minecraft Movie and the excitement it has created for many looking to see the larger world come to life, our bet was on there being at least one. Lucky for us, there are actually two post-credit scenes in A Minecraft Movie, with each one appealing to different audiences.
Does A Minecraft Movie have a post-credits scene?
Yes, A Minecraft Movie has both a mid-credits and a post-credits scene.
Mid-Credit/Simultaneous with the Credits — Scene One
At the end of A Minecraft Movie, our heroes have all returned to the real world, creating a fun, found-family vibe. However, they were not the only characters who came to the “real world,” with a Villager wandering through a portal earlier in the film. You can't spell insane without AI — and insane AI is exactly what we're about to get if the batshit new trailer for M3GAN 2.0 is anything to go by. Yes, two years after Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone first introduced us to M3GAN, the android Bff with the seriously (cf; literally) killer moves, the bitch is back and ready to go to war with an all-new I.T. girl, Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno's rogue super spy Amelia, in a sequel that's set to go harder, better, faster, stronger, and sassier than its already riotous predecessor. Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and all your faves from the first film are along for the ride too — and you can check out the nutso new trailer below;
As murderbot M3GAN so eloquently puts it while flying in a wing suit, "Hold onto your vaginas!" Where do we even begin? From the impeccable 'Oops!

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Neon has released a new poster of The Life of Chuck, which evokes a mysterious, but beautiful journey into an introspection of life.
Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
Tom Hiddleston (Loki) is playing Chuck, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars) playing a character named Albie.

Watch the Trailer for M3GAN 2.0: "The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time she’s not alone.
The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0.
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy.

While the live-action The Cat in the Hat from 2003 resides in infamy with critics and audiences alike, the Dr. Seuss story will get re-adapted into an animated feature, much like 2018’s The Grinch. Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader plays the Cat, with Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry and Paula Pell starring as primary cast members.

Exclusive: Anthony Edwards and J. Smith-Cameron join Elizabeth Olsen and Cristin Milioti in the FX drama pilot Seven Sisters.
The project, from FX Productions, follows a large, tight-knit family that begins to unravel when a sister (Olsen) starts communicating with a voice no one else can hear, forcing them to confront long-buried secrets.
We hear that Edwards will portray family patriarch Paul Bosco and Smith-Cameron will portray his wife, Francesca, in series regular roles should the pilot get picked up to series. They join Milioti, who we revealed yesterday will portray Olsen’s character’s sister.
Seven Sisters is executive produced by Will Arbery, who wrote the pilot; Sean Durkin, who will direct it; and Garrett Basch. If the pilot goes forward, it would mark Basch’s fifth series for FX, where his company Dive has a long-standing first-look deal, following Devs, Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows...

The White Lotus is a dark comedy anthology series that follows patrons of upscale resorts worldwide. The show satirizes its guests, exposing the extremes of the privileged class they inhabit, which leads to hilarious moments during their stay at the White Lotus. While the guests experience a resort that nearly resembles a utopia, their hypocritical and darker natures inevitably surface. Throughout the series, the guests reveal their flaws, entitled behavior, and awkward family dynamics.
The White Lotus remains a major hit for HBO, with its third season adopting a darker, slow-burn approach compared to its predecessors. The show has always felt like an amalgamation of multiple genres, infused with a generous dose of humor. For fans seeking similar experiences to The White Lotus, there are several excellent comedy films worth watching, each featuring comparable humor or overlapping themes.
