The series was created and written in English, with a writer's room mostly comprised of Brazilian screenwriters who spoke the language. The scripts were only translated to Portuguese after being greenlit.
Much of the first season was actually shot in the state of São Paulo, despite the main setting being Rio de Janeiro.
The series' original soundtrack was released on music-streaming services.
The series' English title is "Most Beautiful Thing", which is a line from the original Portuguese version of the popular song "The Girl from Ipanema", though the line is not present in its English adaptation. From season 2 onwards, the series' international title was changed to "Girls From Ipanema" in order to be better associated with the song, which is also the theme for the show.
Producer Giuliano Cedroni mentioned that Netflix intended the series to be an "elevated soap opera". The main cast of the series, consisting of actresses who had worked on soap operas from Brazilian giant Globo network (Maria Casadevall, Mel Lisboa, Fernanda Vasconcellos, and Pathy Dejesus), was also a recommendation from the company.
