  • The plot revolves around two brothers and their father's passion towards making them the next superstar of Cricket. The father's obsession borders to mania and gives the vibes that he may do anything to achieve his dreams. To fulfill their ambition they move to Mumbai and covet for a position in the Mumbai under 19 Team. To add spice to the mix, the god gets involved, they meet a rival with some disturbing emotions and one of the brothers does not even want to be a cricketer.

I thought I have figured out the plot but I was way wrong, the ending surprised me in multiple levels. The series got superb casting and performances by both the young and old actors. It is another gem of a Netflix Original.
  • This was meant to be a single season mini-series- what intrigues is why only 6 episodes. At times it seems a bit draggy. Acting was good and with the star caste, it looks like Netflix and Prime bring a chance for the theatre artists.

Selection day tells the the story of a an aggressive father who brings his two naturally gifted sons to Mumbai for making it big in both cricket & life. The journey undertaken by by these three from a distant small town and how they cope up to the rigours of life in Mumbai forms the core of 12 episodes. The show sways between interesting, good, decent, dull and plain boring moments, back and forth. Teen life, aspirations, desires, income divide, school politics, hate, friendship and cricket selection politics are well highlighted but it is left to the viewers to decide whether all these this are interesting or not. Rajesh Tailing portraying the unrealistic father has done a wonderful job, so does Rathna Pathak shah as the school principal. Cricket scenes were not bad considering how they are usually shot in mainstream cinema. But a lot of moments are a bit exaggerated and predictable. Teenagers would find the series exiting as it relates to their everyday life. The show is must watch for parents on how not to handle grown up kids. If one swaps cricket with academics, 90% of Indian teenagers face the same situation as the two confused kids.
  • Easy breezy binge watch. Great production values. Wish there were more episodes. Leaves you wanting more. A Great simple binge watch .
  • Hoping the new season is released soon as the series ends when it actually starts picking up pace and very abruptly ...apart from that it is a decent watch ..really enjoyed it ..
  • Episodes are really short basically 20 Min. Which makes it a 120 Minutes Movie. So coming on the show. It's Plot is About Cricket but I would say the show has been making a base for second season. As most of character were still evolving.if you are interested in Cricket it has a great experience Aspects which I Didn't liked much but we're a kind of mystery explainer. So no problem with GOD appearance. The creater Have done a Great Job.
  • This is good web series but nota a must watch web series. you will not enjoy this show and not finished in season 1 so why waiting for season 2

What an opening scene!!! Waiting for other episodes.
  • The show is plagued with a weak storyline aimed at gaining viewership from the huge popularity of the sport in the country. But a sport can take a weak storyline only so far. Combined with inexperienced acting performances, it makes for a bleak watch.
  • Selection day may not be a must watch in these fast paced Hollywood series releasing now a days but it has its own essence.. Storyline is simple and it's a good watch.. Each episode is just 20 to 25 mins which won't take much of your time.. Just go for it you won't get disappointed..
  • All the elements of good story are present but after watching all 6 episodes, I feel something was missing, acting wise everyone has performed well, screenplay is bit loose perhaps, I will recommend but at the same time I will not ask you to refrain either.

We enjoyed watching 6 episodes, the characters are still building and I believe there is a lot to happen. The casting is realistic and and it is better than watching stupid Bollywood movies. Haven't read the novel yet, hope the ending was conclusive, they need to bring season 2 ASAP. Good content and storyline, looking forward to next season
  • Selection Day can be considered as drama comedy because of it's satirical approach towards the characters obsession to cricket. There is nothing wrong with the show. Great character development and episode structure. Though initially I was not sure whether I would like the tone of the show. But I must say I am quite intrigued by the show and now I am looking forward for the next season.

Edit after Part 2: After watching the second part, I am changing my initial rating of 9 to 6. One of the main reasons is the shoddy screenplay. Neither the dialogues were appropriate nor the scenes were going away with the plot. In fact it was very hard for me to understand what was going on screen.

The incoherently executed finale was a total let down. It seemed like I was watching some school skit, and definitely not a Netflix Original.

It totally lost track of its central themes. The character motivations were inconsistent like Mercury.

Weird show. I expected a lot after watching the promising first part.
  • I ended up watching this series as soon as it was out. For someone like me who haven't read the novel, the series episodes were the only thing to judge.

This is a new experiment. Though cricket is popular in India, yet there is not much quality web series. The premise is very obvious where two small town kids enter Mumbai to make their name in Cricket. Given the fact, with IPL success, we have seen many small town boys success stories, so it didn't seem something new. So, the pace and emotions was required to weave the story around these.

However, episode by episode, the director / writer kept on building the characters which were difficult to emotionally connect with. The depth and pace required was completely missing. The worst part, the season 1 ends abruptly. Not sure, what are they trying to achieve. I think, they haven't been able to think in terms of seasons... where you complete a story and then build the next on top of that .. in the next season.

Watch it with hope that season 2 will be released soon and that will conclude the story.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Overall, story and the content was great. Acting was great too. I wish they will come with season 2. I'm not satisfied with ending. I still want to know about mother, school, coach's wife geeta and a lot more.

It is not about corruption in selection process etc. More about karm yoga, passion and dream to rise from rags to riches. You won't be disappointed.

    Warning: Spoilers
Plot is simple and screen play is very weak . At first it was looking good but as selection day was coming near show looses it's path and kinda becomes boring
  • I think the role of GOD made the series not enough realistic. So I rated it 9. Talking about season 1,Part 2 was good and it made us to eagerly wait for the next season.
  • If you love cricket, please don't watch it. The adaptation is not so deep so you will not enjoy the show like novel. The reason I don't liked the show is because of transitions. If show has been completed in 8 episodes it will be more worthy. You can't expect to audience returning for season 2 when the plot is hinged. The end should be cliffhanger not when someone is in between. Nice attempt but poorly executed.

Some unrealistic things occurs just like appearance of God, a toy dog sniffs out like a fully trained military dog. Shows out the painful struggle to represent nation.
  • We get a better direction in season 1 than season 2, Some scene are going wrong with the actual one, Lonely javed have a better face , At all it is average mark.
  • Selection day may not be must watch in this fast moving Hollywood gripping series releasing now a days.. But it's a good watch.. Character development is slow but every director takes their own time.. Each episode is just 20 to 25 mins which won't take much of your time.. So go for it you won't be dissapointed..

If you don't have anything else to binge on then you can try watching this one. Very ok story cannot connect with characters.
  • Background Story is very disappointing!

Their Father insult by their sons who did everything for them (not realistic) ! The God who suddenly appear ! Javed character was very disappointing! (And then the Homo story) ! Radha was out before selection day ! Their Father's Business stop because of his Personal life!

Come on You should have made a Good Story out of Cricket and you disappointed the viewers!
