Brilliant start, lazy finish

Set against the backdrop of live theatre and it's dwindling, Vijay Sethupathi sets the ball rolling for the unfolding of an artsy slow-paced movie. With ample opportunity for showcasing theatrical performances, multiple different actors present mind blowing evenly interspersed performances, elevating the movie like a slowly rising tsunami. Vijay Sethupathi has given a brilliant performance and established his character's aura to last the movie. Multi-layered treatment of the movie transcends layers across the stage drama, the movie and the audience easily and masterfully. With masterful presentation and some amazing natural acting, the movie puts forward a bold postulate pretty convincingly. Slowly shot long scenes communicate the drudgery of movie making pretty well. However, somewhere down the line, the concept was pushed a bit too far and the movie lost me. There were scenes that rolled by, disengaged. However, there were sheer strokes of brilliance in the beginning of the movie. Just like the awesome potential of the movie Joseph did not get it's deserved due with a preachy court room ending where the movie just reads out in plain text what it wants to say, this movie took the exact same approach. A judge to read out concluding remarks much like a vote of thanks.



Vijay Sethupathi's makeup work has been impressive. It is a pretty unique movie but does not really offer any incisive insights that it promised at it's start.

Having an big hero and a strong cast you expect a big performance from the cast and a plot which supports it. This movies thrashes all the stereotypes and has it's own path , never seen a movie of such kind , the movie is still a bit length on the run time and very tiring due to it , yet it gives a strong message and nuetralizes it.

Pros:

*First 45 minutes of the movie gave me the satisfaction of watching a complete art film. I don't usually shed tears for movie scenes but this movie almost made me cry for few scenes. Instead of polishing the scenes with too much tragedy, things are presented very naturally yet leaving the deep impact. Aurangazeeb drama and the scene where Vijaysethupathi seeing the city people's lifestyle from an auto were top class emotional.

*Cinematography and background music both are big pillars for this movie. They given life to almost every scenes

*Vijaysethupathi's performance as an old man.

*Characterization: Mouli, 'Naduvula konjam pakkatha kaanum' fame Bagavathy Perumaal and Saravanan, Mahendran, Karunakaran and guys who acted as directors in this film have performed well. Cameos from Bharathiraja, Bhagyaraj, Ram and Ramya Nambeesan were good.

*Delivering comedy through face expressions was really good. Because of this, Junior artists who acted in one or two scenes also had the scope to impress with their performance/expression. Though the comedy scenes were too lengthy, all of them are enjoyable

Cons:

*It seemed like there was no editing at all. There were too much re(peated)takes in shooting spot scenes on both first and second half of the film. Though the comedy was good how long we can be patient seeing the story is not at all moving further? It would be better if some scenes were trimmed

*I felt that someone else might be the better option for that guy who acted as a producer-hero in second half. He is having the major screen space in second half and personally I felt he is not a good choice

*Though the message they tried to deliver was good, story was too weak for a feature film. In most of the scenes, I felt like they are just passing the time by showing the shooting spot scenes. According to me the movie was over in first half itself. Second half was like extended version of few scenes they shown before interval. And also moving this kind of story with elements like soul, ghost etc are not at all suitable.

Who can watch: Vijaysethupathi fans, those who like silent comedy movies, art film lovers and also those who blamed Vijaysethupathi for acting same kind of characters in recent times must watch this film

Who may skip: commercial movie lovers, those who expect a fully fledged comedy film like naduvula konjam pakkatha kaanum, those who expect Vijaysethupathi's performance to be like in his recent films may skip this movie.

Art and artist never dies Seethakaathi!!! Such an excellent and new plot by the team It has every emotioms Sadness,humor,anger, sacrifice and so on And this is not a movie🎬 This is an experience So we can't review it we can only share the experience

An interesting fantasy story which is new to tamil cinema. A fiction can go in any dimension and it's one of that kind. Vijay Sethupathy's drama artist performance is not justifying enough esp. In dialogue delivery part. Director's approach of dragging scenes like a typical Tv serials is disappointing. Background music is is good and blends with scenes well. Hats off to the director for bringing out best in every supporting actors.

Too much melodrama!

Ayya's character is not strong enough or not built well to showcase his acting/art. Vijay Sethupathi has his own way of dialog delivery, which spoils the Classical Tamil dialog and not attaching to drama stage. All actors played well. We can see how hard it is to take a simple shot for a movie. But core of the story is not enough to touch.

Good Movie but not an excellent movie. Even Vijay Sethupathi came for a short time. Vijay Sethupathi acting was excellent in the movie. Everybody acted very well in the movie. The movie became bore because of repeated scenes. The 2nd half in the movie was so lengthy. Songs were not good in the movie but BGM was so good. The movie has a good message. The story in the movie was good but they executed in a boring way. Good Movie.

Vijay Sethupathi's branding is used to pull audience to this content, if we minus him, NOBODY will ever watch a movie like this in today's world. The plot basically revolves around a drama artist and what he aka his soul does after he's dead and the environmental plays about that soul matter. There are simply 2 long/repetitive comedy scenes which will bring laughter, and nothing else that interests or keeps the audiences engaged. BGM & Cinematography were simply awesome, the feeling of travelling along with the protagonist throughout the was one of the plus. This might probably cover people who likes watching drama and who consumed historical content.

Unique premise but failed execution

The film has a very original premise and idea but the crew simply could not build a storyline and screenplay with it. The cast is outstanding and rarely do you see a movie with no lead actors perform so well.No Vijay Sethupathy is not the lead actor here but the idea of his existence is. The comedy is very good and the actors truly excel which is one reason you are not bored despite the complete lack of a plot or screenplay. Still I would recommend a watch and I heard that from today a edited version with 23 mins cut is being released.

Its a unique movie,experimental for sure. In tamil film industry you rarely find films like these.. This one is not for everyone, if you are into slow paced movie,then you can watch it. The direction is not that impressive,but you wont notice any flaws in it. The screenplay is wonderful,the first half of the movie just aims right at the heart. You feel each and every emotions they wanted you to feel but it fells apart in the second half. The cast ...i dont know...there could have been changes but somehow it finds balance in this one. The story is the strongest plus point of the movie. Its very strange in a good way. The trailer was very misleading so the original story of the movie was a surprise. Overall a average movie

I don't understand..we celebrate Hollywood movies or Korean,Iran movies but those type of movies in our language stand with own style, culture ??? Mostly we didn't celebrate ..this movie is really good try in new fantasy genre movie is too slow but these type of movies want that... first 40 minutes awesome another 90 minutes vnot equal to that but totally new feel with some good comedy .. you want to see some new different kind of movies please watch this guy's
