Not particularly accessible for non-target audience but does have some universality to its characters

To be honest, I'm not one that looks for the default LGBTQ categories when it comes to short films, or anything else. I tend to take things as I find them but there wasn't much about this film that appealed to me on the face of it. Getting into it was also a struggle, as it thrust me into a world and characters I did not feel comfortable with due to my lack of familiarity, nor was I able to connect to. This obstacle continued for some time, but credit to the film for leading the characters to a place of more universality and connection. The two leads both find a minute of honesty and realism with their 'scenes', and it reveals small things in the characters that inform their actions and presentations. This aspect worked well and made the film more impacting in these moments than in the rest.

I did find it a hard watch though. I wasn't target audience for sure, and there wasn't much in the opening sequences to help the casual viewer get into it, but this shouldn't take away from the way that it does in the end have some elements which will strike a chord if you remain open to it doing so.

It's not easy being yourself in the gay world

A dark, erotic movie on how difficult it can be to find love (and sex) while just being yourself in the gay world. Elliot is attractive in a manly way and he could get lovers, if only he didn't have a penchant for green lipstick and rouge. On Grinder, he puts a picture of himself without make-up, but when the guy shows up at his apartment, Elliot is in drag. After that, things take a strange turn. This movie was shown at the Kashish Queer Film Festival in Mumbai, India, in June 2019.

Stunning film with a profoundly visceral and hypnotic performance by Jamie Robson.

    gentle

The delicacy is the main virtue of this film very precise in its message. A film not exactly about loneliness but about its nuances. A beautiful film about love and deep need of the other, about a meet and a ring , about vulnerability in universal sense. So, for so many reasons, a wise film.

    Stunning!

I loved this film, having seen it at both EIFF and BFI Flare in London. Moving and poetic with a particularly powerful performance by Jamie Robson.
