  • OMG!! Regina Hall is totaly tailored to her character. She brought her character to alive!! Her attitude in the movie is so funny! Also, the young actress is super talented. She is going to shine in Hollywood. The storyline is okay but I really enjoy their acting.
  • Each performance in this movie is a winner. The laughs come naturally. 3 black female comic geniuses in one film is a tremendous accomplishment. I don't remember anything like this happening in film history. I think that the main problem was that Marsai Martin, plays an adult to well. Anyone that has seen her on Blackish knows, Diane was born 45 yrs old. In the scenes where she is with other children, there is no sense that she is childlike at all. It is at the Climax, finally, that we see a young girl just having fun. Other than that Little is a great movie for tweens and parents of tweens.

When Jordan was 13, being bullied made her determined to be rich and successful and bully others instead. Accordingly, she is now a deeply unpleasant adult. So, when she is magically transformed back into a 13-year old, she has some lessons to learn which she didn't learn the first time round.

First-billed Regina Hall, as adult Jordan, is in the movie long enough to establish what a bitch she is before disappearing until the very end. Most of the film is a two-hander between Issa Rae, as Jordan's long-suffering PA April, and 13-year old Marsai Martin as 13-year old Jordan, and also 30-year old Jordan in a 13-year old body.

First things first. Miss Martin is phenomenal. Kids don't have adult body language and they don't have an adult's assurance which underlies how adults hold themselves in everything they say and do. But Miss Martin does. And although both conflict and humour lie in the notion of a child being in an adult's body, you never think that this is a child acting an adult. This IS an adult.

Otherwise this is a pretty routine age reversal comedy. It's amusing without being hilarious, the plot is largely predictable, there is no bad language of any consequence, and it is broadly likeable. My one serious criticism is that there is no real comeuppance for the teen bitches who make Jordan's life miserable at school, both times.

But the film isn't bad, and Marsai Martin (who also, at 13(!) co-produced) is phenomenal.
  • This movie was trying to be funny, but didn't manage it and just came across as lame and cheesy. The acting left something to be desired, and I honestly just spent the whole film thinking "when is it gonna end? I'm bored". I don't recommend it.
  • It's not amazing but it's a good watch. Chick flick film and funny a feel good movie, anyone who says it's rubbish must be miserable
  • First off this movie was way too long for what it was. The story was the same as many before it. There were some funny moments, but the length of the film made you feel restless waiting for it to end
  • All of the cast are comedically talented and clearly committed to the film, making it a worthwhile, easy watch. Unfortunately, it could have used some attention to pacing at times, and I'm surprised they didn't hear that from test audiences and heed it before they completed the final cut. It's genuinely enjoyable overall, though, and a lighthearted escapist visit to the movies. (And I'm personally thankful for some relief from way too many DC and Marvel flicks clogging up theater screens everywhere).

This movie is trash. I dont understand how this got a theatrical release. The comedy is off, the editing is stifled and choppy, disconnected, and doesn't have any flow from one element to the next. I literally thought that I had zoned out for five minutes because I was somewhere else in the movie and didn't know how I got there.

I love this genre. It is really hard for me not to like this genre. I love 17 again, 13 going on 30, big, like father like son, freaky Friday, you name it. This was garbage. How do you screw this up?! I left the theater in the middle of the movie. I've never done that! I was embarrassed to watch it. The weird thing was the people with me in the theater were laughing tits at it. I still don't get it.
  • The movie lacked a strong story, making the plot wishy washy and jumpy that being said, it was still a very enjoyable movie. The belly shaking laughs were mainly in the first half of the movie. It grew less funny when once the transformation actually happened.

Regina Halls role was executed very well and what made it more funny was that the characters were relatable to my own life. I feel if you cannot relate it to yourself, then this movie may not be for you.
  • It had its funny moments, but I don't appreciate the sexual advances of a young child on grown men. That was disturbing and disgusting. It would have been so much better to keep things cute and funny.
  • This won't be an in depth review. This is in case people are judging by the currently low stars. I'm wondering if those those people actually saw the movie because I laughed the whole time, as did all the other people in the crowded theater i was in.

Yeah, there's been other movies with similar plots, but this was a fresh and modern take without being over the top pc like so much of what comes out of Hollywood today. Rather than be lectured by a movie, I want to take a break from my own responsibilities, be entertained, and in this case laugh. This did that.

I was incredibly impressed by Marsai Martin. I was very surprised at how seamlessly she stepped into the grown character and made it feel like I was really watching the mini version of the character I'd just seen Regina Hall playing.

If you're debating, just go see it.
  • So the idea of switching bodies and girl going young and all is not new .. how it all ends is kinda expected .. but it is a sweet movie ... the cast are likable bunch of people i think they made it look somewhat good.

I previously watched Marsai Martin in Blackish ,, so i like the little girl from before and I "for a bit" expected that she'll embrace her role of that strong a$$ smart "evil-ish" kid so it was good.. also loved Regina Hall and Issa Rae as much ..

The movie fine mixture of mediocre Fantasy and above average comedy .. watched it ;)
  • It's hard to tell who this movie is for, children or adults. It's too boring for adults but many adult scenes make it unsuitable for children. The worst thing is that it's unbearable to watch if you are sitting next to your children to watch it in a "family night". My mother and sister fell asleep, and if I wasn't hungry/in need of a bathroom, I would have too. Speaking of which, it's impossibly long for what it is. It does not use time effectively at all. It's poorly written and detailed where it shouldn't while undetailed where it should. I can only praise it's diverse cast, but it's ruined with poor lines, poor jokes and overall terrible plot. The concept in Big, is exploring what a creative and eager mind of a child, could do with the "freedom" of an adult; it was basically, magical. This movie, on the other hand, very poorly explores the bitterness of childhood. Not only it was not magical, but barely anything of the plot relied on being "little", but rather most of the plot centered on the adult life of the "little" person. Because, so *little* emphasis was dedicated to the young life of the main character, conflict resolution felt poorly executed, unrealistic and essentially, corny and cringe-worthy as hell. One of the reasons I was talked into watching this movie was the acting of the child main character, which, was ok, but not enough to make the movie one bit interesting. There are one, or two laughs in the movie as well, and for a moment, one might thing the movie is not totally hopeless, but you'll soon noticed that you'll be disappointed. Also, it's crazy how lots of reviews are essentially *bad* reviews, but they give the movie scores like 6/10. I think they just want to be "kind" or maybe they are shy about giving bad reviews a bad score. Or maybe they think 6/10 is a bad score, but don't be fooled. This movie is a solid 1/10, at most 2/10 if you are a child, perhaps.
  • This movie was so bad I had to write my first review. Not sure how this was even cleared to go to theaters. Absolutely cringe worthy with atrocious acting. I don't even know what else to say. Save your time and money. Water evaporating from a cup is much better entertainment than this.

    Remixes and twists on classics, Hollywood's bread and butter to drop lots of movies with each weekend that passes. This weekend that trend continues, as Tom Hanks beloved Big gets reversed to a smaller proportion. With lots of advertising and the hopes that it will do extremely well this weekend, this comedy looks to be cute and fun for a movie adventure. So what is in store? Well Robbie K is back again with yet another review and it is time to see if the latest comedy will keep you laughing or leave you scoffing. Let's get started as we review;

    Movie: Little (2019)

Director: Tina Gordon (as Tina Gordon Chism) Writers: Tracy Oliver (story by), Tina Gordon (as Tina Gordon Chism) Stars: Regina Hall, Issa Rae, Marsai Martin

    LIKES:

    Fun Cute Acting Soundtrack Morals

SUMMARY: The name of the game is fun in this installment. Little finds a way to relive the magic of Big and help gain a second childhood in the modern-day world. My friend and I had a blast with the little adventure at hand as both characters tackle the new challenges put before them in the worlds they are forced to face. The jokes were on point and well timed, keeping in theme with the energy of the movie. Part of this comes from the cute atmosphere established with the writing of this movie, mature enough to hit the older audience, yet still young enough to hit the teenagers and young adult crowd.

The acting helps to make this movie pop, Issa Rae works the assistant scene quite well, sass and innocence building together quite well to make a likeable character. She helps balance out the silliness, yet still add to it in her own manner that breaks up some of the monotony this film chooses to approach. As for young actress Marsai Martin, she's got quite a start to the acting career and I look forward to seeing the young girl in future installments. She's got the attitude of an adult down pat, sass blending with some comedic relief and childish moments that are quite balanced for a movie like this. Nevertheless, the chemistry between all cast both primary and secondary groups work well and I quite enjoyed seeing the teamwork bring the characters to life.

Yet, part of the fun comes from a killer soundtrack, new and old tracks coming together to capture the feelings of the scenes. The cultural representation the sound editor picked was extremely awesome, and had me dancing in my seat while also wanting to break out my phone to look up the songs. Even smarter, is that much of the movie's song sort of emphasize the other part I like of this movie, the morals that are embedded in this film. Yes, like many movies the morals are preachy and baked right in, but Little finds a way to mesh those lessons into some fun moments that help you enjoy what you are learning. Finding some lessons that are relevant, Little gets props for helping the audience dig deep and look into themselves to find their own abilities.

    Dislikes:

Predictable Fast Missed opportunities Some pointless character introductions Story points that are limited Trailers give away much

SUMMARY: Predictable thy name is comedy and Little tries hard to defy the expected jokes and plot lines this movie sets up a mile away. Little's focus on having fun means using the same tricks to get a laugh and the same means to get to the end of the story. Rather than leading to a build up, with areas that require intense focus, discovery, and a major push to get better, Little takes the fast approach to getting through the film. It's okay, but the movie had a lot of hinted opportunities that showed promise, but then dropped the ball leading to some disappointing moments. This was especially true with the teacher scenes that the trailers loved to highlight, characters that held potential with their introduction, but reduced to comedic props that didn't quite pack the kick I think they wanted. Some of the story points as well had the same issues going the same way, hints of fun adventures and the growth of characters that quickly fizzled out. Finally, the trailers are good at revealing much of the movie and there isn't too much one needs to see past the highlights they showed. Little falls victim to showing off too much, leaving little to the imagination outside of some of more engaging dialogue and a few romance scenes.

    The VERDICT:

Little is fun, simple as that, but the movie needs some refining to be the classic that Big was presenting long ago. This new spin is cute, hits the target audience members well, and does the job of teaching you the important lessons with baked in, heartwarming goodness. While the movie is funny to so many levels, it is still very predictable and had so many avenues to go down for comedy that they left unfulfilled. Thus, the potential for going to see in the theaters is lessened by the trailers and lack of finesse that they were going for, and I recommend waiting on this one for home viewing. Still, check this one out eventually if you are looking for the means to have a good laugh fest for simplistic fun.

    My scores are:

    Comedy/Fantasy/Romance: 6.5 Movie Overall: 5.0
  • Along with a friend, I saw this back in February as part of a preview screening. We were both asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement which prevented us from posting reviews online prior to now. Totally understandable, as the movie is complete and utter garbage and the studio obviously didn't want bad reviews up before its release.

There are a number of "reviews" giving this film 9 - or even 10 - out of 10. Sockpuppetry at it's finest. For example, see "beliiu"'s review. A brand new member giving a stinker like this 10 out of 10? Hmmmm...

Anyway, to the film itself: my friend and I walked out after an hour - and we *never* do that. The acting is incredibly bad, the jokes fall completely flat; it's simply terrible. As others have alluded to, this movie has been made before and made much, much better in the past (Tom Hanks in 1988's "Big", for example).

Please don't waste your time or money on this movie. As I write this, the IMDB rating sits at 5.4 out of 10. Clearly, the ratings are being manipulated. Don't be fooled. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I generally don't bother writing reviews, but the blatant sockpuppetry and rating manipulation going on here got my back up. If I can save one person from wasting their valuable time and money, I'll consider it my good deed for the week. Thanks for reading.
  • It sucks cause that trailer made this look like it was going to be the funniest movie around, but the follow up from the producers of Girls Trip, made a movie not as funny as Girls Trip. I'm gonna say it's attempt to appeal to both 38 year old women and the 13 year olds they may turn into pulls this movie in two directions and loosened whatever hold they tried to have on me. The joke got repetitive. The movie is about a grown women stuck in a child's body and they ran with it but it got tired real quick. Decent acting was a saving grace, but could not save a plot that seems worn out from the very frist scene.

Horrible HORRIBLE movie. Bad cast, stupid and unreal storyline and worst acting EVER!!!
  • Typical but cute. Definitely designed for the fairer sex (not to sound chauvinistic). Appeared all the females in the theater really enjoyed it. And I wouldn't call it a chick flick but ....

Enjoyed watch young Marsai Martin in something else.
  • Seriously, people need to lighten up and simmer down. This movie was cute and had plenty of funny parts (more than just what the commercials showed). It's not like an award winning sort of movie, where it leaves you thinking deep about what is life or saving the world from pollution or stuff like that lol.. it's a lighthearted chill movie.
  • There is no option to put a zero rating. This is terrible. It is made just for money. Can people stop making these types of movies please? How did this movie sell any tickets? No more businessmen changed into something else to change their personality.

I enjoyed this movie more than I thought. There were many funny bits, the best when Jordan Sanders awakes as her old 13-year-old self and doesn't realize it. Thinking her assistant April Williams didn't place her slippers the right distance from the bed due to shorter legs and goes running around her apartment complex, getting bowled over by the boy she earlier shoved out of her way, gets laughed at the coffee counter, before realizing she has become a child before she had her Lasix eye surgery. Another is when April, posing as her guardian, finally has enough of Jordan's nasty attitude and engages in a slapstick battle ending with Little Jordan getting a well-deserved spanking, followed by April's victory dance. The tie-in between April's app letting users see the world through the eyes of a child and Little Jordan doing just that and realizing she is hated and has no friends, causing her reevaluate her life, brings a fine moral to end the film. Marsai Martin (Little Jordan), Issa Rae (April) and Regina Hall (Big Jordan) all give top-notch performances. I recommend seeing it!

By the way, I noticed some shots from "Little" used in the trailer and TV ads that didn't appear in the movie probably due to edits tightening the film before release.
  • All in all, 'Little (2019)' is a '2-star' movie with a '3-star' execution. It's not fantastic, by any means, but it's better than it perhaps ought to be. It tells a generic tale in a generic way but does it well enough that you not only don't mind but that you're also entertained, essentially, all the way through, more or less wrapped up in the predictably ridiculous, if strangely satisfying, machinations of the pseudo body-swap story. The basic premise is that it's 'Big (1988)' except she's 'little' and the movie goes through the usual motions associated with this sort of narrative - wherein a magical circumstance forces a character to confront their flaws and, hopefully, change for the better - but it does a decent job with most of them, even if it has maybe one too many sub-plots to be classed as especially 'focused'. It's a testament to the writing that you can truly dislike the lead character at the beginning, when she's grown, and then come to care for her as the plot progresses. It's not like her motivations are ever a mystery but they're well-rounded enough to feel believable, both before and after they begin to change. Martin really is great as the little Hall, feeling like an extension as opposed to a replacement. Hall herself puts in a decent effort but occasionally seems slightly too broad for the established tone. Rae, cast in a role that constantly vies for protagonist status, is also good. However, her character sometimes seems a little more forthcoming than you'd think she would be (personal growth notwithstanding). Still, both central figures fully undergo expected yet satisfying arcs. To that end, the story itself comes together fairly nicely, rounding itself off before devolving ever-so-slightly for a 'dance-party'-esque final scene, despite the fact that it plays out, essentially, exactly as you'd expect. It does feel a tad long, though. The whole thing is just quite likeable, in a way. It's never exactly funny but it's never unfunny, either, and - while it may not be fresh or, even, especially deep - it's enjoyable enough. It's also never boring. At the end of the day, a little entertainment goes a long way. 6/10
  • There are a lot of bad reviews on here, and I agree with most of the points they make. I wouldn't call it unwatchable trash, but it was bad enough that my friend and I were disappointed that we spent our Friday night watching it. And bad enough that I wanted to leave a review.

To be honest, I hadn't seen any of the leads in anything before, so I can't speak to their acting in a general sense. But the absolute BEST part of this movie was the young actress who played Jordan Sanders' little self. I thought she did an amazing job not only at being an adult in a child's body, but making it believable that it was that specific adult. Her mannerisms, her speech, her facial expressions...I loved watching her the whole time.

I couldn't really tell if Regina Hall's acting was terrible, or if she did what she could with the script that she had. Early on in the movie, she reacts to something that happens to her, and it was such an over-the-top, exaggerated reaction that I was sure the reaction would be played off as a joke. It wasn't.

Issa Rae was somewhere in the middle, not overwhelmingly good, but not completely terrible. There was literally nothing memorable from her outside of what was in the trailer.

It was amazing to see an all black, all female leading cast in a comedy movie, but for as predictable as the whole thing was, it lacked the charm to make it worthwhile. In my humble opinion.

But seriously. Marsai Martin was phenomenal. For being the "magical" part of the movie, she was actually the most believable thing about it.
  • I found this movie too shallow, with lack of moral message for young kids.

However, the young girl has very big potential,
