  • I watched the movie, I got home, I read some ebooks about the tashkent case. The movie was right. Why was the truth hidden from us? It's a must watch to make people aware of the evils in the society. The dialogues were the best part of the movie. Acting by Mithun day was awesome. I would appreciate it if the cinematography could have been improved. I hated some awkward camera angles. Otherwise it was a fantastic movie. Must watch.
  • Difficult subject was taken and tried to present it to people Audience will walk out of Movie with questions why this happens to PM Shastriji Don't go by media review.. They have rated it bad due to Vivek Agnihotry's political alignment
  • First thing i did was to buy "KGB book". There are so many facts India's first family hid from indians that history we read as kids seems so irrelevant. I suddenly feel this urge to dwelve deep into what all lies are hidden! Thank you ensemble cast and Vivek Agnihotri for reviving and reinstating our faith in meaningful political films... loved Ms Basu...
  • I request all the Indians to watch that movie. Thanks to Vivek Agnihotri for picking that Issue which the government always wanted to hide from us. I really feel so ashamed after watching that movie that our 2nd PM died but no one cares. Even our education system want us to forget about Shastri Ji. RIP Sir, we are so sorry that we didn't honoured you with the honour you deserve.

Don't go for critics review. It is one of the well made movie. Must watch
  • This movie not a boring political movie, this is a hair raising thriller. A must watch for everyone.
  • Ask anyone from earlier generation and they will collaborate the the story. Some parts may be exaggerated for impact. There is no denying the fact what transpired was highly questionable. It has not yet erased from collective memory. The movies uses a hearing committee construct to bring in different views. Some characters are underdeveloped or under utilized. Usage of interview and archive shots make things more believeable. The transition of protagonist from scoop seeking to truth seeking is a good arch. There are strong performances, each character has strong dialogue based on their view point. Standout being Shweta and Mithun da. I wish Naseer's track was more 3-dimentional.

Being conspiracy theory / alternative truth theme the story packs punch, raised uncomfortable questions and expands narrative that public was intentionally miss-informed.

It is great to see such an attempt in Indian cinema where in the past mere similarities in script to real life events could get it banned. Take a bow Vivek Agnihorti!!
  • I recommend every Indian to watch this movie and appreciate this story of truth. Also, please check The Mitrokhin Archive II: The KGB in the World from the Google books, its totally free, just check the chapter 17 The special relation with India...
  • Finally Shashtriji being paid tribute, respect and given justice which was long due... Lutyeans ecosystem exposed... A must watch for every supporter of Lal Bahadur Shashtriji.... Beautifully narrated, meticulously detailed story... A must watch...
  • Ever seen a bollywood movie where the makers have done extensive research? A movie which takes itself very seriously? A movie which keeps throwing solid facts at u? A movie which makes u ponder? A movie which doesnt take its audience for granted? A movie which openly discusses how lal bahadur shastri died? Did his heart fail or was he poisoned? Then do watch #TheTashkentFiles directed by vivek agnihotri, a movie with supremely talented actors. Running time should be reduced by 20 minutes. Rating 3.5/5.
  • It was India's answer to the Da Vinci Code. Although not as fast paced as the Dan Brown movie, the Tashkent Files was engaging enough. The movie presents certain hidden facts regarding the death of Shastri Ji which we Indians must know.
  • THE TASHKENT FILES REVIEW :-

A MUCH NEEDED INTELLECTUAL MUST WATCH FILM IN BOLLYWOOD !

How many of us knows that 2nd October is the Birth Anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shashtri as well? We call India as Country of Gandhiji and Nehruji, why not Shashtriji's? How strong was India's Position on Global Map when Lal Bahadur Shashtri was Prime Minister of India and how all of sudden India lost that strong position just after his mysterious death? These all are unsolved puzzles and we have had enough arguments and political propagandas over this, but Tashkent Files is just not about this, it is something more than that. It is about Secularism, socialism, terrorism, politics, our rights and bla bla but when all of these comes with a Great Cinematic Experience then believe me you just can't afford to miss this gem.

The Tashkent Files deals with multiple issues at the same time keeping Shashtriji's death mystery at the center, rest phenomena of beneficial nature of people, types of terrorism, racism and the Fake Truth which has been accepted by our society etc. is created with Perfect mindset by the Writer and the Director Vivek Agnihotri. He finally comes out of his Adult Thrillers zome and delivers a Must See Experience. The entire cast does the justice to thier roles with thier own perfection. While Shweta Prasad showcases Best act of her career, Mithun Chakraborty, Mandira bedi and Pallavi Joshi stands out. Music was needless but there is one theme song "Sab Chalta Hai" which fails to impress, although Lyrics hits the Sharp aim on the subject. Dialogues are Knocky and you will utter 'Wow' for them at some occassions.

At one moment, The Tashkent Files feels like Bollywood version of Hollywood Cult Classic '12 Angry Men' due to those Arguments and conference scenes but the motive was different here. Apart from unrevealed Facts on Shashtri, it also focuses on few political agendas and propagandas in thrilling mode. Overall, The Tashkent Files is much needed Intellectual Must Watch Film for Bollywood in this year and is certainly the Most Intelligent+Thinkable product of the year so far. One must have some brilliant knowledge of History to judge this film, and that's the reason why I am not sure whether to call it a Classic or not, hence rating is 7/10*

This movie could've been anything, but instead it decided to become a haphazard experience. There were so many motivational dialogues, but most of them were unrelated to the main plot. The director never tried to focus on the main topic, instead the main theme could be assumed as politically motivated. Even though I am not an Indian, but I felt like the time of the movie's release the message this movie tried to give were somewhat connected. The acting were over the top, even though there were so many talented casts. The acting of the main lead was mainly responsible for the childish presentation, and I believe it was also the failure of the director as he was responsible for giving OK to the final cut. The main lead, who was portrayed as the representative of the youth, for no apparent reason, became a finder of truth from a fame hungry journalist. The facts were represented poorly, the last line-"the authenticity of all the facts displayed in the film cannot be verified" simply shows how much failure the project was. In a nutshell, it neither had the potential to become an investigative/conspiracy thriller, nor enough smartness to become sympathy arising drama. I actually don't know what it really was.
  • Last year I was watching a web-series, Bose, which tells the truth behind the disappearance of freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The web-series was remarkable telling the events which led to his disappearance and conspiracies surrounding his death. One of the activities of Netaji which led to more suspicion was his appearance in The Tashkent peace treaty agreement between India and Pakistan in 1966 and his rendezvous with Lal Bahadur Shastri after the farewell party about some information which would put the insiders in trouble. Obviously, Lal Bahadur Shastri died just few hours after the meeting and only his dead body, wrapped in Indian flag arrived. This led to my interest in the last week's release, The Tashkent Files.

The Tashkent Files is an attempt to know the truth behind the mysterious death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, 2nd Prime Minister of India, which has led to many conspiracies.

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri (Hate Story), The Tashkent Files will remind you of a classic movie, Ek Ruka Hua Faisal, where panel of experts are called in to discuss a murder trial. Similarly, a journalist who had to submit a scoop to her chief editor at a leading media channel, gets involved in knowing the truth behind death of the 2nd Prime Minister of India and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress political party, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The thriller successfully puts forward few questions :-

    1. How come the color of dead body of Lal Bahadur Shastri changed when it was received in India and why were there so many cuts on the body if he died of a natural death ?

    2. Why was there no post-mortem performed after his death ?

    3. Why did Indian Government refused to reveal any documents relating to his death ?

    4. There were two people beside Lal Bahadur Shastri - his servant Ram Nath and Dr. Chugh who were the only witness to the case and co-incidentally got hit by a moving vehicle.

The movie also raises the point on the how the Russian spy agency, KJB, sent suitcases of money, amounting to 10.6 million. Unfortunately, the truth is harsh and is never told but as a citizen of India, everyone has right to information and the film ask very gently - Why there should be a change in the Indian History books, we have all studied in school. I think the movie should be watched by people of India and decide what is the best for our country rather than blindly following someone.

Coming to the technical aspect, The Tashkent Files has good background score and tight screenplay, though it misses few marks in the second half. Art direction is decent and so is the cinematography. Writing by Vivek Agnihotri is strong along with his direction. Performances by the star cast is good, especially Shweta Prasad.

Overall, The Tashkent Files is the hard-hitting truth that is painful but is better than make-believe. Excellent 4/5
  • Direction: Vivek Agnihotri gave honest try for mystical death of Lal Bahudur Shastri ji and he succeeded in his objective. This poltical thriller is totally nail biting one as it will hook up you till the climax. Performance: We must say thanks to casting director as he did choose any A-star. Shweta Basu Prasad take the lead in the role of Raagini Phule as small age journalist. Mithun da proved his acting once again with political role. Naseer was also great in touch with role of home minister. Mandira added more power as NGO owner and Pallavi as Historian. Pankaj Tripathi once again impressed his audience with monologue on Secularism. Rajesh Sharma and Vinay Pathak did brilliant job in small role. Script: Vivek has done really work hard to make this script so meaningful and gave some message without any political alignment. It has many other big cover up e.g. KGB agents presence in Pan India, Death of Deendayal ji and Shyma Prasad along with Plane crash of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Dialogue: Great dialogue with punches make any script more powerful and robust. There was some section with brilliant dialogues e.g. India on sale and Secularism issue. Music: This section was not up the mark as it can be better than this. Rohit Sharma must added some meaningful track with perfect timing. Box-office: On day 1, it has collected .4o Crores but collection will be increase on Sat and Sun as good words of mouth for this movie. Last words: Don't miss this master piece from Vivek Agnihotri
  • It's an eye opener how politics in India was ran by main political party. They did what felt good to promote one family and destroyed every other achiever of India like Shastri Jee
  • Oh man! What a movie this was. A real eye opener. How cunningly the facts were hidden from the general public. I was aware of secret agencies (CIA, KGB) role to some extent however, the movie has completely disclosed the motives of the key people behind this conspiracy. Movie is a must-watch for all Indians and I urge all of you to watch it along with your family as we Indians deserve to know the truth. How US and USSR were playing with us by supporting a certain "Grand Old Party" will just shock you. Howeverbe, be aware that this is not your another popcorn flick which you enjoy at weekends. But since the director Vivek Agnihotri has taken such a big risk, we should support him.

Go watch this movie and be informed of what was not told to you.
  • This movie leaves in a thought about how well do we really know about our own country and its history Our whole life, (at least my generation) we have only been taught about pre independence history and very little about post independence Cant comment on authenticity but it spark some questions about why no investigations were made for death of then acting Prime Minister of India and that too on Foreign soil especially when he was there to sign treaty with the country whom we were at war with Fact of our country being people are more interested in masala movies rather then watching factual movies like this Definitely worth watching movie for people interest in history
  • I was looking at several review before going to see this movie but i am amazed. All I can say those reviews are a bit biased against the film.A critic called the movie "not factual" , well its not directors fault at all,the movies was inspired by Anuj Dhar book who is a great author. critics may say its "hysterics into history" but at least Vivek has the courage to show what "history" is.The film is not perfect but it's not bad to be given 1 star review by some critics.
  • The movie is very well researched and smartly written. The committee discussions remind you of the time when you first watched '12 Angry Men'. The ensemble cast is strong and all the actors have done outstanding job on their part especially Mithun-da and Naseer sir. The lead actress Shweta Basu Prasad is also remarkable and delivers powerful performance. The dialogues are witty, impactful and forward the story ahead without revealing what is going to come next. If also, you know the mysteries and conspiracies behind Shastriji's death, the film is not limiting itself to those theories. I bet you will find a lot more in the film than you went looking for. The film follows a tight narrative and doesn't let audience slip in the gulp of their coke.

What works for the movie, also makes it a bit stretched. Film would have been a lot more gripping and interesting if it had only confined itself to committee discussions. But involving a backstory of the lead actress, toil she went through during the investigation, tracking a dead spy in Russia are some scenes which are either unnecessary or unrealistic. And this is very much necessary that when you are making a political film which is bound to be a controversial one, you don't want your audience to wonder from reality to fantasy, where they feel somewhat dejected.

The film gives equal opportunity to every character to present their case. As India's first crowd-sourced movie, it surely uplifts your expectation and it does fulfill it up to one level, but it fails in exceeding that bar. Powerful 2nd half does satisfy your belly over the half baked first half. Direction, music, camerawork are all up to the mark. Overall, it is anytime better than the usual 'masala crap' we are projected with.

I would have given it 8/10 only if the first half could have been better. My rating is 7/10. A well intended film by Vivek Agnihotri sir. I was able to feel the hardships and turmoil the team must have went through during this venture; start from researching it and to the date it got released.

And remember guys, it is easy to be a propogand-ic filmmaker than to be a truth-seeker. See the film and decide by yourself which one is Vivek-sir.
  • So awesome that vivek ji has openly talked about some of the most sensitive and day to day issues like secularism with such a beautiful way. Awesome narrative skills and acting is just out of the world. Thanks for the master piece...🙏👍
  • Some over acting but I went to see what's the mystery around Shastri's death. I knew they won't come to a conclusion but it brought enough sources to the surface.
  • Only good thing about film could be real footages and somewhat research done for film. Film tries to copy '12 angry men' jury drama and fails so badly. Everyone gets angry and shout unnecessarily. It's so annoying. And film is fails miserably to convince. People giving good ratings are just victim of hype and shock value. Movie just unbearable. Immature, mediocre, lame. Just disappointed to see people giving high rating makes me worry about IQ of our generation in India.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Imagine living in a lie that you're independent since 70 years but you're not! It's a shame that a great PM dies and nobody cared. After watching I'm just wondering what if he wouldn't had died that night. Our country would have been different. Indians always had potential, but it was sold! Plus this was never told to anybody. Movie had a strong content, takes lot of hard work to get it. Presentation is also good, climax is amazing. I'm going to search for the KGB book and Tashkent files now.
  • Absolutely brilliant movie. Book the first ticket you get and go...
