Season 3 of Apple TV+’s animated comedy Central Park will premiere Sept. 9. It will feature original cast member Kristen Bell who is rejoining the series as a new character, Abby, Paige’s (Katherine Hahn) little sister. (first-look image above)
Bell voiced Paige (Hahn) and Owen’s (Leslie Odom Jr.) mixed-raced daughter Molly in Central Park’s first season. She exited the series in 2020 when she announced on Instagram that she was relinquishing the role “to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal [of the mixed race and Black American experience]”. At the time, Apple said that Bell would return in Season 3 as a new character since Season 2 already had been written and recorded. Molly Emmy Raver-Lampman was subsequently cast as Molly.
From creator, writer and executive producer Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith, the 13-episode third season of Central Park will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with three episodes, followed by one episode weekly every Friday thereafter through Nov.

Apple TV+ has lured another A-lister to the small screen, tapping Taron Egerton (Rocketman) to star in a six-episode limited series from Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone author Dennis Lehane.

We’ve got a lot of Servant questions. Like, was the Turners’ baby really Jericho? Why can’t Sean and Julian stop lying? And is the creepy doll actually a poltergeist from hell? Hey, on this show, anything’s possible.
Season 2 of the psychological horror series premiered Friday on Apple TV+, and as you probably could’ve guessed, we didn’t exactly get the answers we’ve been craving. With Jericho (or whoever) gone missing, Dorothy and Sean are in panic mode, as nanny Leanne — who may or may not have supernatural powers that possibly revived Jericho — remains on the lam,...

At this point, we’re almost legally obligated to start off TV roundups with some variation on this idea that there’s a lot of TV out there, but it really is impossible to keep up with everything. And calling attention to it doesn’t make it any less true!
So, given that TV time is reaching astronomical heights in 2020, how does one find something to watch, let alone focus on just the best of the best? That’s where we come in.
Keeping track of the dizzying amount of television we’ve reviewed so far in 2020 is a task in and of itself, so we’ve tried to make it as easy as possible. Below, we’ve gathered each of our 2020 TV reviews, each with a season number and the network/service where the new episodes first aired for U.S. audiences. Amid a wider conversation within the entertainment industry about representation, the past year has seen some signs of change in its animation sector, both onscreen and off. From the recasting of biracial characters with Bipoc voice actors on Netflix’s Big Mouth and Apple TV+’s Central Park, to recruiting more diverse animation artists via Instagram, efforts to be more inclusive have increased in 2020. But what has been the impact? To answer this question, THR invited creative and executive professionals within the animation community to a group discussion conducted remotely Nov. 2. Where do you even begin with a year brimming with as much exciting music as 2020 had to offer? Even if you limit it to what made it to TV screens, it’s still a daunting collection of possibilities.
To start, there were the undeniable musical charms of “Central Park,” “The Eddy,” and “P-Valley,” all of which drew heavily on original songs to help tether their stories to a distinct time and place.
Phillip Glass, Harold Budd (“I Know This Much is True”), Alan Silvestri (“Cosmos: Possible Worlds”) and Atticus Ross all added to their robust, ever-growing bodies of work.
Musicians who have helped define the atmospheres of their respective series — like Ramin Djawadi for “Westworld” or Jesse Novak for “BoJack Horseman” — continued to do so as the characters in focus faced monumental changes. In the middle of it all, Jeff Russo held onto his title of the busiest musician in...

Could George Clooney be more awesome? While some celebrities spend thousands of bucks every year on hairstyling, the silver fox instead shells out $1 million gifts to his pals but cuts his own hair with the use of the ’80s infomercial gadget, The Flowbee.
As political commentator Max Kennerly put it, “For looking that good with nothing more than a friggin’ ancient Flowbee, God–and I cannot stress this enough–damn him.”
Clooney made the confession during an interview with Tracy Smith on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” when the conversation turned to the actor’s impeccable hair despite not being able to get a haircut for months due to the pandemic. He revealed that he’s been cutting his hair himself for about 25 years, and that he’s done so with the help of a Flowbee, a vacuum attachment created in the ’80s designed for DIY haircuts.

Leslie Odom Jr. is looking good for his first ever Oscar nomination for his role in “One Night in Miami,” and if he wins, he’ll be one step closer to coveted Egot glory.
That’s because he’s already halfway there thanks to his iconic performance in the blockbuster musical “Hamilton,” for which he won a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical in 2016 after sharing the show’s Grammy win for Best Musical Theater Album earlier that year. If he ends up winning an Oscar for “Miami,” he would then only need to score at the Emmys to ascend the Egot throne alongside the likes of Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and 13 others who have achieved that distinction.

In the episode, Carl Carlson — Homer Simpson’s nuclear plant co-worker, and best friend to Lenny Leonard — is now voiced by actor Alex Désert (“Better Things”). Désert replaces Hank Azaria in the role, at least for that episode.
The switch comes as “The Simpsons” producers confirmed earlier this summer that it would no longer have white actors voice non-white characters. Azaria had voiced Carl, who is Black, since the beginning of the show.
It’s unclear whether Désert is Carl’s permanent voice, and if he’ll be voicing other characters as well. Among other recurring characters the edict might impact include Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is seen in the episode, but doesn’t speak.
Désert also voices Swarm on Disney Xd’s “Spider-Man: Maximum Venom” and Mr. Bojenkins on Adult Swim...

Big Mouth’s Maya Rudolph won her first Emmy on Thursday for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance, for the character of Connie the Hormone Monstress.
On Night 4 of the remotely conducted Creative Arts ceremony, Rudolph wasn’t present with a pre-taped acceptance speech. But she prevailed over an elite set of voice-over contenders including Wanda Sykes (Crank Yankers), Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons) and Hank Azaria (The Simpsons), as well as first-time nominees Leslie Odom Jr. (Central Park) and Taika Waititi (The Mandalorian).
This year, Rudolph was nominated for three Emmys, bringing her to a career total of six. Soon, she will compete against herself in the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, with nods for her turns on The Good Place and Saturday Night Live.

This year’s nominees in the category of outstanding voice-over are interesting: For starters, they’re one of the more racially diverse of this year’s Emmy nominees — but on top of that, they also show how the world of voice-over acting has changed in just a few short years.
Maya Rudolph, whose turn as Connie the Hormone Monstress on the Netflix series “Big Mouth” has become a Twitter sensation, secured the first Emmy of her career for the role in the episode “How to Have An Orgasm.” The win was a welcomed surprise considering how beloved Rudolph is, both as an actress and for her role on the animated series.
This category, however, as a whole, was especially fraught with issues this year. “Big Mouth” came under fire this year for actress Jenny Slate voicing a Black character. The same casting issues plagued the Apple TV+ series “Central Park...

Night 4 of the Creative Arts Emmys was headlined by Quibi winning prizes at TV’s top awards.
The short-form content producer went home with two statuettes on Thursday night, both of which went to actors from the series “#FreeRayshawn.”
Legendary “Matrix” star Laurence Fishburne won his third individual Emmy for his portrayal of Lt. Steven Poincy, and then the very next award went to “Hamilton” alumna Jasmine Cephas Jones for playing Tyisha.
Another category worth looking out for on the night was voice-over performance, which saw Maya Rudolph win her first Emmy for voicing Connie the Hormone Monstress on Netflix’s “Big Mouth.” She could potentially pick up another come Sunday, as she is nominated for both “Saturday Night Live” and “The Good Place” in the guest actress in a comedy category.
“Schitt’s Creek” kicked off the penultimate Creative Arts night by winning its first, and likely not last, Emmy of 2020 for casting.

While 2020 has not been the best experience for most of us, it has been very good for Taika Waititi. He started off the year winning several awards for his World War II satire “Jojo Rabbit,” culminating in an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay. Now, the New Zealander is looking to keep his awards winning streak alive at this year’s Emmys, where he’s nominated in the Best Voice-Over Performance category for “The Mandalorian” at Thursday’s ceremony. He’s also up for Comedy Series as the executive producer of “What We Do in the Shadows.” To claim this prize, he’ll have to beat back challenges from two previous winners in the category, another two under-recognized veterans and a rising star who’s already a Tony and Grammy winner. Below, let’s take a look at each of this year’s nominated performers and what they’re being recognized for.

Netflix has officially recast the voice of Missy Foreman-Greenwald, two months after Jenny Slate stepped down from the role on Big Mouth. Writer, producer, comedian and actor Ayo Edebiri has been tapped to replace Slate, and as Variety reported, the actress booked the role "just a few weeks ago."
"I was definitely a very uncomfortable child, so I think the show speaks to that and a lot of those feelings, which still resonate with me as an adult," Edebiri told Variety. "I'm back home in my childhood bedroom right now and on my bookshelf in between A Series of Unfortunate Events is Bill Clinton's autobiography and Nelson Mandela's autobiography and a translation of The Iliad in Latin. I was a true dork. So I don't think I have to go too far to connect with Missy."

Photobomb (verb): spoil a photograph of (a person or thing) by unexpectedly appearing in the camera's field of view as the picture is taken, typically as a prank or practical joke. That's the definition of photobombing and it's definitely become an art, at least where celebrities are concerned. Whether it's at fancy award shows, an industry event or even just strolling through Central Park, stars just can't resist the allure of the camera sometimes—even when it's not pointed at them. Over the years, Jennifer Lawrence has jumped into photos of her famous friends, like Emma Stone and Taylor Swift, while Jimmy Fallon has been known to spoil a picture or two. Plus, who can...

“What a difference a year makes, for Black people,” declared two-time Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown, who was honored by the African American Film Critics Association (Aafca) Saturday for the second consecutive year for his performance on NBC’s “This Is Us.” “Last year we were having fun,” Brown pointed out in his poignant acceptance speech, adding that “we were all together under one roof, celebrating one another in person, hugs, handshakes, etc. and now we’re a bit more separate. But our lives matter.”
In a prelude to what we can expect at the Emmys next month, Aafca live streamed its 2nd Annual Aafca TV Honors as a responsible socially-distanced virtual ceremony today that was high on emotion and star power. The show was a slick and often very moving affair, celebrating the best of the year in television and streaming, hosted by comedian and actor Aida Rodriguez. Watch the video above.

Kenya Barris and Janet Mock were among the special honorees at Saturday’s 2020 Aafca TV Honors ceremony, which celebrated the best in entertainment on the small screen. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the African American Film Critics Association’s second annual celebration was held virtually, with stars like Sterling K. Brown, Viola Davis, John Legend and Mindy Kaling accepting their awards from home.
Barris picked up the Icon Award, presented by his “#Black-af” co-star Rashida Jones, joking, “It’s something I never thought that I would be in the position to get…so many thoughts and questions come to my mind, like, ‘How old do these people actually think I am? Leslie Odom Jr. picked up his first Emmy nomination this year: Best Character Voice-Over Performance for playing “Central Park” caretaker Owen Tillerman. If he wins he’ll be three-quarters of the way to Egot because “Hamilton” already got him halfway there. So he and his former “Hamilton” nemesis Lin-Manuel Miranda would both just need an Oscar to wrap it up.
Odom played Aaron Burr in “Hamilton” opposite Miranda as the title character, and they went head-to-head at the Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical in 2016. Odom won that prize while Miranda took home a pair of statues for his book and original score. Earlier that same year both men shared the show’s Grammy win for Best Musical Theater Album. So Odom was halfway to his Egot, while Miranda, already an Emmy winner for songwriting by then, just needed an Oscar.

The Central Park zoo crew from “Madagascar” is back and ready to party in a new prequel series set to stream on both Hulu and Peacock.
Debuting Sept. 7 on both platforms, “Madagascar: A Little Wild” features the beloved characters Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo from the original 2005 film and many sequels and spinoffs that have come out of the franchise since.
The series will feature original music, following the four characters as kids living at the Central Park Zoo’s rescue habitat. “They might be small, but like everybody who lands in New York City, these little guys have big dreams and Madagascar: A Little Wild will follow all of their adventures,” says DreamWorks.
