  • Just finished watching Hilarity for Charity. I wanted to like this so badly.. it's a great cause and line up, but it definitely didn't live up to its potential. First off, the audience was so stiff!! If we felt the tension at home, I can't imagine how the comedians felt. I realize this was for charity so it was a different audience than who you would normally see at a comedy show, but I didn't feel like they enjoyed the event.. at all. The show was kind of a weird mix of raunchy comedy, family-friendly singing (with the muppets), and information about Alzheimers. The comedians were great, I just wish their segments were a longer without all the randomness in between. I did laugh (thank you John Mulaney), so I think it was worth watching, but definitely not my favorite Netflix special.

I was really expecting to like it more. I love Seth Rogan. Pretty much all the movies he has been in were great. And it had so many big names in it. But it ended up not being all that funny.

The stand ups were good for the most part. I liked that they weren't too political. These days we get too much comedy on that topic so I am always happy to see stand ups with other kind of jokes. I especially liked Micahel Che, Sarah Silverman (I am impressed how she even put in a joke relating the topic of the charity) and Tiffany Haddish. John Mulaney was also good but I didn't laugh too much with him. Michelle Wolfe pretty much sucked.

The problem though is that stand ups were very short. And all the sketches in between were not funny at all. It seemed like they were just improvised and nobody bothered to edit them to make them funny. Even the ones including Sacha Barone Cohen and Jeff Goldblum left me unimpressed.

Still it is a great cause. I am glad they added some information on Alzheimer's to it. Hope more people will donate because it is one of the scariest things one can expect in old age.
  • The problem with this Netflix comedy special is that this wasn't very funny in the least. There were some decent watchable skits involving Seth Rogen but most of the special guests stand up routines felt very forced and not completely prepared.
  • I'm a big fan of Seth, his movies and his crew so I was ready for some off beat, dark humour. But this wasn't even funny. Ended up turning it off. Not even the promise of Jeff Goldblum kept me in.
  • Seth and his desperately unfunny 'comedian' pals need to get some self awareness, stat. This is embarrassing, pathetic and staler than three year old bread. I didn't laugh once. Seth & co: next time, please don't cobble together a terrible 'show' - just donate the money yourself and spare us all the disappointment.
  • My wife and I could not get past the first 20min of this. This has to be one of the worst "comedy shows" I have ever seen. Typical Seth Rogan penis jokes and no amount of intelligence at all.
  • Every comedian was funny except Tiffany Haddish, (if she was even supposed to do some stand-up that night.) She was just obsessed with herself and talking about how she made it in the industry and met Beyonce. There were several jokes including a gross animated short cartoon. The Muppets were singing songs, which felt out of place. Jeff Goldblum's appearance was appreciated. Post Malone ended the show with a fantastic performance. The only part I'd watch again is Post Malone closing out the show.

Kudo's to them for doing it for charity. A lot of money was made that night. From people paying to leave early.

The funniest part was hearing from the audience how much they didn't enjoy the opening.

I saw the adverts, and was looking forward to this. Oh boy... What a letdown! It stars with a weird, distasteful scene. Not kidding. Obvious fake laughters added, very farfetched, just painful to watch. And I just couldn't watch it any longer.... 10 minutes in, and I was out.
  • I was shocked to see how many negative reviews this got, but I figured it out. This show isn't for a mature adult mind. If you like to get stoned and scour Netflix for the dirty stuff that make your sides hurt from laughter, this is gold. Also, there's an emotional part that lasts like 6 minutes.

I wish I had Alzheimer's so I would forget this terrible show. I would rate this in the negative stars if such a thing was possible.
  • So,each comedian had about 5 minutes to do their thing. i've seen stand-ups do wonders with a mere 5 minutes, these guys however could not be bothered with bringing in their A material for this. in the end the only good thing was jeff goldblum. there's plenty of great stand-up comedy on netflix, this title however is not one of them.
  • I said to my husband "Oh, thank God it's over" NONE of the comedians were funny.
  • The only explanation for the 5/10 rating would be that an army of workers in some foreign sweat shop were voting this up - believable were it not for the fact Rogen only hires people sad enough to get high with him. I begun watching this as a last resort, and after skipping through the tragically misfiring jokes in the introduction I found myself in the middle of Rogen chuckling away at himself spinning off reams of - you guessed it - dick jokes. Don't get me wrong, dicks can be hilarious - they just need to have a funny human attached to them.
  • It was hard to watch from the start, everyone seemed way nervous and awkward at times. I thought this TV special was going to be a version like Dave Chapelle! But it was some rookie circus act, The band sucked also. Waste of time but at least Seth has a good heart.

    WTF?
It's like he had a party for his friends and sycophants and recorded it. Every character that walked off stage couldn't get out of there fast enough. Barely a handshake. Another example of crap people doing crap work, attaching it to a charity so they can feel go about themselves.
  • Sure, it's tacky and parts are just downright gross (I'm talking to you Rick and Morty co-creator) - but the point is it's for charity. My grandmother had Alzheimer's. Once I took my guitar and played some songs for her and everyone in the home. When it was done, my grandmother asked my mom, is that young man going to play some more songs? She had no idea who I was. It's heartbreaking to see a loved one go through such an ordeal. And it only gets worse as time goes by. We know so little of the disease and Charities like hilarity for charity is a worthwhile Organization for a worthwhile cause. And even if the show itself is not 10 Stars worthy, I'm giving it 10 Stars just because it's a worthwhile charity.

Penis jokes and weed jokes. Not to mention jokes featuring both of these things. Not funny at all. The guests don't really make it any better. Rick and Morty featurette was weak to say the least and Sacha Baron Cohen's David Attenborough impression just wasn't up to scratch either. Would not recommend it to anyone.
  • This has to be THE worst comedy "attempt" ever made and quite disappointing seeing a seasoned actor is behind this. It is so bad that I logged in to rate this garbage in the middle of the night coz I am that mad wasting an hour of my life.

I think all the stand-ups used their worst jokes they have ever written, literally feels like they picked everything they threw in trash for this event. I waited and waited to laugh but in the end, I was just mostly grossed out - but that's typical of anything Seth Rogen anyways... fooled myself thinking this might be different or funny but nope.

My advise, donate to their charity as it's a very noble cause but stay as far away from this garbage as possible.
  • Not that funny at all. If Seth rogan wants to give money to charity then simply donate his next multi million dollar pay check for his next movie.

What has happen to Hollywood??? I mean yeah they always had watered down ideas and cheesy production work but still they made stuff that was watchable. Now a days celebs think because they have some sort of name in the industry that anything they put out is worthy of even being on the market.

This was downright terrible on every level. Seth Rogan, Jonah hill and actors of this nature for some reason are overly obsessed with penis jokes. They are never funny and only stupid. The comedians were not even funny and I love tiffany haddish but her jokes all fell flat.

This was a waste of time I skipped through most of it and ended up just turning it off all together. I expected a lot more from Seth SMH....
  • Warning: Spoilers
As with many users reviewing on here, I'm a huge Seth Rogen fan and was optimistic for this charity event. Not even one of the skits or jokes landed, unfortunately, none of the comedians were especially amusing (some were especially annoying and unfunny), and Seth's dependence on penis jokes was unrelentingly disappointing and juvenile for someone who masters even the crassest situational comedy.

To boot, the animated portion of the show was just appalling. The special overall was a huge waste of time and marked the first time that I had ever used Netflix's "dislike" button. But, by goodness, if "Hilarity for Charity" didn't earn it.

    Avoid
The worst show imaginable. Just a painfully unfunny mess. Jokes were cheap and juvenile. Not funny
  • Warning: Spoilers
We tried to watch this. We really did. We got passed the unnecessary penis jokes in the beginning. We lilke the muppets..... then came the animated short with Char and Ity...... We will never get that image out of our heads. We shut it off immediately after.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This special was awful!! It featured a dick-ton of dick jokes and weed jokes. The animated skit was disgusting, the Muppets skit was mediocre, and the sets were okay. This charity "event" was so bad, I skipped past the performance of Post Malone.
