  • First off, pros, beautiful cinematography and a captivating storyline. Second, cons, angsty teens with powers run around causing havoc and just being annoying.

Definitely worth a watch, but the writers made the main character so incredibly insufferable it's almost hard to watch. She's rude and overly-aggressive and so thick-headed it almost made me stop watching the show all together. The way she insults anyone who disagrees with her or won't give her what she wants is almost comical, no one ever puts her in her place and it's infuriating. Hopefully, a season 2 will have some better writing for character development.
  • A series with mostly average acting, terrible writing, laughable development and just some nice VFX and heart-warming teenish score!

It's so unbelievably bad and shallow that green-lighting a second season of that nonsense is just laughable, while brilliant series get cancelled after the first one.

Be sure that the same acrobatic circus and total nonsense will repeat in season 2.

I enjoy the show, the storyline is interesting. The only thing that really bothers me is the age of the characters? Like why are the characters 16-17 years old having sex in school, smoking and drinking? I know the show is fairies and fantasy but that part is just really unrealistic and disturbing.

Other than that i really enjoy the show. Its for people that love Charmed, The Magicians and the umbrella academy.

The main character is kind of explosive and all over the place given she's only 16 in the show, it makes sense but the over dramatics is sometimes unnecessary. Love how each character had their own distinct personality and the show keeps me wondering whats going to happen!
  • Being honest, I expected more of the show honestly, but that doesn't make the show bad, quite the contrary, I really enjoyed it. It resembles very much, the vampire diaries but unfortunately not winx. I loved the cast and their chemistry but I didn't like the fact they cut Tecna and Flora out. I think the show should have at least nine episodes not six 'cause I found the story a little messy but not in a bad way. You should watch it with an open mind because the show has the potencial to be better and improve in a possible second season. Yes, I missed the song and the shiny things but at the final episode we have what we wanted most (you know what). Remember the show can improve and get better. I really waited for so long to watch a live-action winx show and if gets cancelled I would be so disappointed.

Fate is so much different than the colorful Winx from Nickelodeon, but that's OK. It's trying to be its own thing and I think it worked! I was scared it would be as terrible as the other time they tried making a Live Action version of a Nick show (Avatar the Last Airbender), but no, I thought it blew all my expectations out of the water! Abigail Cowan and all her cast mates did such a good job, there's so much to like here!!

At first, I thought the characters were all introduced pretty fast, since it starts with Bloom already at Alfea. But don't worry, all of the main cast has their own moments and sub plots. Not going to spoil them here, but I thought Terra (who's basically Flora, with Flora's powers but a different name) had a good arc about finding her real friendships. The scary new villain/creatures called the Burned Ones were also really interesting to me, and there was also a lot of family drama since both Bloom and Stella had rocky relationships with their mothers.

Since Fate was made by new people from totally different shows (like Vampire Diaries), there are obviously lots of differences between the cartoon and its tone. Just remind yourself of that, and you can totally enjoy it as a separate show- plus, I kinda love angsty drama, so this whole show was like the perfect pick for me. Please give Fate a chance!
  • It's based on a concept but it's a separate show. It certainly is more grown up and "edgy". The writing at times is cringey. Time passes too fast and the connection between the leads feels forced and not really genuine. The character's depths aren't really explored and Bloom's backstory is also weirdly set-up. After finishing the season you don't really have the feeling that anything that important happened. The plot is rather bland and rushed over. I still think that the show can stand well on its own and I'm looking forward to see more of how they explore this potential in future seasons.
  • With seeing all the previous reviews with the trailer I thought this show would have been bad. What people rlly need to see is that this show is not winx it is solely based on the original show. The storyline of this show is amazing and by the last episode it leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I agree that they should'nt have cut out flora and Tecna out of the show and casted better with some of the main characters. But it makes up for it when u watch the show and the girls have great chemistry. I was also mad that Stella didn't have Brandon. Besides all that the show has GREAT potential to be amazing and I think people should give it a chance. You never know they may add in flora and Tecna in the later seasons. I rlly hope this show doesn't get cancelled because by the last episode everything just got real interesting.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Lets start with the cons.... There are some story loop holes in the writing between seasons 1 and 2.

The "teenagers" they cast look like their 29. Especially in the second season where bloom kinda looks like she is 30.

They do Terra hella dirty in the first season by making her the token fat girl and making her a blumbling awkward mess. She was obviously supposed to be a fat flora at the beginning, but then in season 2 flora is introduced as terras cousin.

Terra in season one is the earth magic and in their writing they focus very heavily on the plant aspect. Then in season 2 flora comes in and takes over as a flower fairies, and terra suddenly has her main power change to it being rock, which becomes evident when ***SPOILERS*** she transforms and her channeling her powers shows up as a diamond.

It seems as though they have no idea what they are doing with terra's character other then also adding in that not only is she the fat girl but now she is also the lesbian. I think she is just there to appeal to certain demographics and not really do more.

Aiesha's character really only seems like she is there to support blooms character and rescue her all the time. She never stands on her own as a POC and more specifically a black woman. This seems to be a running thing with any minority in this series where they fall into this support roll, but at least others have their own stand alone story plots that push them forward. Aiesha seems to always be there to push blooms story forward in some way or another. Even when it comes to her romance in season 2 with grey. Grey was just there to help the blood witches in their attempts to get to bloom, so he used Aiesha to get in and get close to her and her friends. She also has the least amount of character development out of anyone in the main cast between the two seasons. Even flora has more character development in her one season then Aiesha did in 2.

With all of the bad things i mentioned above there are a lot of good points. Most of the characters have good development that you can understand and follow easily. It does a good job helping you follow the sorry line (even with some weird loop holes and plot armor) It definitely does a good job honouring the source material and I like the way they show the fairy transformation. The wings are super cute and stylized depending on the magic of the person. The monsters arent too freaky looking.

The specialists do a good job of being meat head jocks. I like Sky's daddy issues with Andreas and Silva and how he seems to be working through it.

On the flip side of that coin i like Stella's rough relationship with her mother. They definitely wrote her character to be and become very redeemable and at times i like her more then bloom. I do find it weird that stella isnt blooms "foil" character however. Especially because in the Source material thats exactly what she waz.

Im excited to see what they do with musa more then anything. The way her story is going is not a route i expected them to take, but i am excited to see where they end up with it. I really hope they continue this journey she is on next season.

If you like supernatural teenage dramas, this show is for tou. If you liked winx as a kid, i definitely think youll like this.
  • There's a very simple world concept, not dissimilar to harry potter, or sabrina with a few different rules. There's some angsty teens hot for each other. That's about it.

    LISTEN
    Warning: Spoilers
Let's face it, this show is not going to win any Emmys...heck I wouldn't even give it an 8/10 rating but the thing is It's really not as bad as everyone is making it out to be!

Most of the reviews are from angry fans who didn't even bother sitting through the whole series because they are upset by the aesthetic, casting among other choices.

To those people I say "I hear you" hey, I'm even latina and the only latina girl in the group isn't present in the show! But the truth is, you are not judging this series for what it is! You are judging it for what you want it to be! And I'm sorry to break it to you but this isn't the Winx club cartoon.

For starters (and At the risk of sounding like a boomer) you should really rewatch the original cartoon, I can assure you it isn't nearly as entertaining as you remember it to be (I know I rewatched the first to seasons a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't get through the third one) somethings are better left in the past, were they belong. Winx club was a kids show and as that it served it's purpose, entertaining little girls ALL OVER THE WORLD.

No one can take that away from you! If you love the original series then go back and rewatch it as many times as you'd like...it isn't going anywhere!

I hate the thought that live action adaptations have to be identical to the source material to be good (and believe me when I say I've seen my fair share of "gritty" live action adaptations that suck), the only thing this does is destroy creativity.

How do you think the Marvel cinematic universe has come so far? By copying and pasting what's already been done in the comics? No, by changing things up, updating this stories for new generations.

Now that that's done I will continue to say what my real problems with this are. In the first place, the ONLY casting decision I do not condone is Musa, since they really don't give a reason as to why she isn't Asian. Terra was fine by me and this was NOT withewashing Flora because SHE ISNT FLORA. Likewise I dislike the fact that they didn't even give a mention to my girl Tecna but we shall see what they do about that in following seasons.

It has some cliches for sure but I wasn't bored for a second and binged the hell out of it! One of the things I enjoyed so much is the fact that I didn't know what was going to happen because the show follows an original story arc.

The set design is really good, even though the costume design (with the exception of Stella) is pretty lame. I thought the actors did a good job and FOR THE MOST PART the script was organic.

To close this rant I would like to say to all those angry fans "You NEED to calm down" it's just a show, a show that may I add didn't market itself to be anything other than what it is, a YA adaptation of the Winx club. Bashing the series will not achieve anything or well it will, it will damage this property and turn it into Hollywood poison.

Ask yourselves if that is really what you want. To cancel a show that so many people are enjoying for what it is and not for what it isn't. Give it a try! Don't go into it hoping to see the Winx club cartoon because that is not what this is.

The core theme of this property has always been friendship and I find that is very beautifully represented here, in a more realistic way than the cartoon may I add. So let's be friends and let everyone enjoy things! Don't ruin the party for everybody.

PD: Oh yes, and that first scene is god awful.
  • The movie itself isn't bad but the acting needs improvement. I was annoyed the entire time because they made every single episode and seen revolve around Bloom. I found that to just be biased and undeserving because she literally thought that she was the shxt. I hated how self absorbed she was. There are other actors in the film, you can elaborate on their story as well. Bloom is worn out and just point blank annoying. For the next season shift focus please. I literally kept rolling my eyes everytime I heard her name or she spoke, annoyed I tell ya. She needs to be parked and understand that not everything is about her.
  • Not a lot to be said about this show. Characters are blah and story is boring, really drags its heels. Very little chemistry between the cast and very little to keep you focused.
  • Warning: Spoilers
By episode 5 I genuinely disliked Bloom, I don't understand how she is the heroine of the story here. Stella is presented as narcissistic, but the true narcissist is Bloom because throughout the show she clearly demonstrates that she only cares about herself and what she wants and she's willing to sacrifice everyone, including her friends to get it.

She routinely endanger the lives of her friends, drugs Sky who she's supposedly in love with and leaves him unconscious and vulnerable even though she knows that there are burned ones around. This is the same boy that is her best friend's on/off boyfriend, again demonstrating that she is 1. A very bad friend, girl code doesn't exist to her, and 2. She only cares about what she wants.

The first time she meets Sky after drugging him there's no apology from her, just a meek "you seem okay". That's it? That's all you're going to say after drugging the boy you're in love with- "you seem okay". If the roles had been reversed here and he had been the one who drugged her and left her out there alone and then just said "you seem okay" the next time he saw her, what do you think the reaction would have been by people watching the show? Would he still be the hero? I doubt that.

Not to mention that when Sky points out that drugging him was...you know, not a very nice to do (to say the least) she proceeds to gaslight him to make him feel as he was the one in the wrong and she is the victim, even though she drugged him and released a murderer. She does a quite a bit of gaslighting in this show actually.

Later she does say a very quick "sorry" and then uses sexual attraction to get him to forgive her, basically - don't think about the fact that I drugged you...just focus on the fact that you're attracted to me. Sky goes from one codependent dysfunctional relationship to another, someone teach this boy to have some self worth.

And why were there no consequences for Bloom from the school for drugging another student and releasing a murderer?

Bloom befriends the psychopath murderer who took part in bullying her friend, and then breaks her out of jail, granted her friends help her out with that one and then lock up the psychopath murderer again, however I'm still counting this as a negative for her (it's really adding up) as she is a very bad influence on them. Aisha is the one rational person in the friend group who recognizes that Bloom is being very selfish and that poor girl is treated like horribly.

Bloom then goes on to release Rosalind, a woman who planned and committed mass murder by burning down an entire town that at the time was believed to have been innocents and who at that time was believed to have murdered her parents, Bloom had been made aware of this and yet she releases her. Rosalind then lets burned ones into the school, which leads to Sam almost dying and proceeds to kill Farah.

I suppose one could argue that Bloom's actions were caused by manipulation, however her underlying personality and character traits are still there and as Farah points out Blooms actions are the reason the whole school is in danger. She tells Farah "Is your ego so fragile that you can't even consider that you're wrong", talk about a glasshouse situation there, she should have been looking at herself in the mirror when saying that.

Her friends are very forgiving and possibly also a bit dumb, they say that Sam is fine thanks to Bloom...but he would never have been hurt if it wasn't for her. The characters are meant to be only 16 years old, so some immaturity is to be excepted. But it's just very hard to remember that they're meant to be only 16 years old, when the actors and actresses playing the roles really do not look 16 years old. They all very much look like adults.

Thank you for coming to my TED-talk...

    Warning: Spoilers
Fate: The Winx Saga contains a perfect mix of brand new stories as well as the old ones already known by the fans of the original animated series this show is based off.

As a fan of the original series for more than 10 years, I was so excited for this. I'm not going to lie, just like most of the people, I was skeptical. But after watching all of the 6 episodes, I really loved and enjoyed the show.

Just like the original show's early days, Fate follows Bloom as she tries to discover who she is. Apparently, she is one of the most powerful fairies ever who was kidnapped by some kind of evil witches who wanted to use her magic (which is very similar to what happened in the original). Together with Bloom, we learn about this whole new magical word that resembles the Magical Dimension we knew in the Winx but with a new, modern twist. Fate really created this big magical word with so many stories, destines, rivalries and fights for power and these six episodes weren't enough to explore all of it. There's more than enough material for a couple of more seasons with hopefully more episodes.

When it comes to characters, I can't complain. The only thing I kind of missed was the best friends vibe which the original Winx Club was known for. The animated series put so much emphasis on friendship and fighting together, but Fate kind of fell short of that. Yes, they all came together at the end, but I didn't feel them being close as they were in the original. Especially because Stella was kind of estranged from the group for the most of it. She was given a fairly different storyline which made her seem cold and unkind - a total opposite of the original Stella. It took me time to get to like her, but she did progress over the show and join the group which was great. I loved the new girl, Terra, who was quirky and sweet and she was the one to light up the moment. We didn't get to learn much about Aisha but her friendship with Bloom was lovely, something I don't remember we got a lot of in the original. Musa has the best romance storyline and her emotional side really shone through. I don't want to make this too long and go through all of the other characters, but everyone seemed to be written well and have a purpose on the show.

All in all, it was really worth watching. Yes, it's not exactly the Winx we grew up with. But it's a good TV show, as I sad - a perfect mix of something new and something old. After so many years, it was amazing to see my favorite childhood characters come to life. I really hope to see more episodes in the future.
  • A group of 25-30 year old actors play 16 year olds at a fairy school. The characters are broadly drawn, the smart one, the sarcastic one, the sexy evil one etc. Bloom, the lead has discovered irony and is basically a bossy biotch that I never really cheered for. That all being said, I did like it. It was clever enough to keep me watching and the writing has its moments. For mindless entertainment it hits the mark and I'd watch Season 2.
  • becknoonan27 February 2021
I've never seen the cartoon version so can't compare. The storyline and characters are interesting and different to most other shows and there's great potential here which I hope is seen in season 2. The main problems are Bloom and (to a slightly lesser extent), Sky. Bllom is a petulant, bratty teenager and Sky is meant to be a hero warrior but all he seems to do is moon over girls! I really hope they improve their attitude and characters next season.
  • Warning: Spoilers
So to start this of is it in any way the kids show whe watched at nickolodeon ?? NO!! Is this for the better ?? YES , this show needs work most important bigger seasons with alot more episodes cause the potential is huge here . Its darker with a more adult vibe wich can be expended in a story for seasons 2 come Removing techna and changing flora to terra is a good thing for making this show a bit more for teens and adults ages 16 and up i was intriged from start 2 finish and cant wait to see whete netflix will take this.

Just promise me @netflix you dont ruin it or give up on the show
  • lanaspicer4 February 2021
I started watching this because I wanted to know what everyone was talking about and I don't regret it. Had it not gotten such a hype (just on my socials) then I wouldn't have given it a go. It's very easy to watch and you don't have to think much. I thought episode 6 really took it up a notch with adult themes and I liked that, made it feel less "high school" and more mature. I'm hooked in enough to watch season 2!
  • wildcats-8240126 September 2022
I'm not sure what people think they are going to be watching when clicking on play. I find this show entertaining, the story, the cast and effects are all engaging. Yes its very CW but let's be real its based on a cartoon about fairies that came out years ago. I personally hope it gets a season 3. I didn't really watch the cartoon. I'm a bit old for that but I went into this knowing it was YA and involved fairies going to a school and learning magic. Keep your expectations, at the very least, realistic based on the source material and you may just find yourself enjoying it. I just finished Season 2 and found myself quite attached to some of the characters.
  • I did enjoy this show. The second season did get a little too campy/teen, but I think a lot of the reviewers are being a bit harsh on Bloom. I definitely have to say that whoever did the costumes/styling for EVERYONE except the Specialists uniforms, should be FIRED! Half of the outfits didn't even look like they fit the actors... pants too big, pants too long, shirts too tight or not tight enough... just about everything in Stella's wardrobe was TRASH and very out of character for a royal -- especially one that mocked Terra's outfits. And don't even get me started on Aisha's wardrobe... Ok, I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

In short, it was an entertaining show if you don't take it too seriously.
  • Pathetic acting. And none of the students look 16-17. I don't know their real ages, but they look like they are having mid life crisis. The most annoying character is probably the lead, Bloom. She is ungrateful to her friends and she just thinks about herself. She impulsively takes stupid decisions and puts everyone in danger. Her friends are dumb enough to not know how selfish she is being. If I was her roommate, I'd have smacked the narcissism out of her. On one side, we had Harry Potter who also wanted to get to know his parents but he wasn't a dumb, stuck-up Dolt like Bloom.

I really loved it and the season finale is killing me. I pray for a second season

Not bad but not the same story. And also why make 1seizoen 6parts i Just watch it all off the eps. Thats why i hate looking serie nettflix every time you have 2 wait long time 2 see more. I have viki its korean Chinese but there kan i see how many days i have 2 wait 2 the next eps....
  • Watched this with my wife over the past week or so, and it's not too horrible, but there are definitely plot holes and biases. Pretty obvious they made this with a young female demographic in mind. All kinds of diversity on the female casting side, yet the guys are a pretty homogenous set of pretty boys that like to pretend to be strong.

They did their best to fuse a bunch of concepts together. For instance, magic is supposed to manifest around puberty, but they want the school to feel like college, so they compromised and they're all "16", but look 25. They wanted to fuse fantasy elements with modern world, so they have cell phones and military vehicles, but somehow no guns of any kind. M2 would seriously wreck house and I've got to think that'd take the spotlight away from their magical special effects.

Our lead tries to exercise some reasoning to accelerate the story past "naive protagonist stumbles through whatever" but she somehow gets satisfied with only one round of analysis without weighting long-standing bias. For instance, if you implicitly trust a mentor character, and that mentor character has decades of grudge against whatever, how do you not take any precautionary steps to respect that mentor?

No spoilers, but I took a star for the haphazard manner the season finale was handled. Pretty much gives them a mulligan on, well, everything in season one, which is extremely lazy writing.
