Greetings from Lithuania.
My final vote for season 3 is 8/10 - and that is the highest possible vote i can give. The previous season 2 also has got the final rating 8/10. Are they equal? And yes and no. While the best of the three seasons is without any doubt a first one, second in comparison with 3rd had more brilliant moments, but the story was kinda mess. This season of the other hand had more simple story, but it did not had any very memorable moments - i will forget i tomorrow like it never happened. Acting was very solid in this season by two leads Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff. Production values were also solid, but the story itself now after seeing last episode is just OK if you ask me - i was kinda expecting more. The last episode ended on a very forgettable note - i'm glad this season is finally over because they were kinda going in circles with all 3 (sometimes 4) timelines - and the payoff was just OK - nothing more.
Overall, i won't rate this season better then the second one. It is a good show at the end, but nothing very memorable. Hopefully they will make a 4th one, and make it a little more edgy and memorable, like with the first one.

I know that many of you, including me thought that we'll see something spectacular in the last episode, that we'll see something unpredictable...But when I thought once again about entire Season and last episode that I watched yesterday, I realised that any twist or something would be too much, because at the end of the day this was probably the most reasonable ending. And if you watched all 8 episodes you could see that the accent wasn't on the case and mystery itself, but on people's lives and their relationships. So with that said, this was perfect ending to a great season. And True Detective is back on track once again after awful Season 2.
This season's finale isn't like the action packed atmospheric climax of the first season's, but instead opts for a more narrative reveal of the built up story arcs that have spanned out through the season. Although it wasn't flashy and jaw-dropping, the more slow paced reveal felt like a fitting ending to match the developed tones that season 3 has been building over the last 8 episodes. There was one scene in particular that built an incredibly haunting and expressive atmosphere that begged for grand revelation, yet it ended somewhat anti-climatically. Despite this, the emotional payoff of the episode certainly delivered. There were several incredibly beautiful and moving scenes that perfectly culminated relationships that we witnessed building/falling through the three different timelines. This episode doesn't go all out with flash, but still manages to finish off this wonderful narrative in fulfilling and meaningful way. A final 10/10 for this amazing season.
I mean what can I say? it's almost as disappointing as the end of sopranos when it went black . The whole show had me intrigued, but the ending, in my opinion, was a let down. They were really very good detectives.

Beautiful ending, not how I excepted it to turn out but it makes perfect sense. We finally got to know the last bits and pieces of the mystery and it didn't let down. Happy ending for once after the depressing ending of season 2. The case tied up nicely, focusing on realism and something that is probably influenced by true cases and it was clever done by the creators. The whole dementia of older Purple Hays made for some great drama and interesting way to play out the ending and it was one thing I loved with it, won't spoil it though.
The overall season was some quality television, writing and the whole production was excellent, couldn't be better. It wasn't action packed, but it wasn't supposed to be lots of action, only realistic drama and mystery and it succeeded in that. The directors catched the tone and atmosphere and did an excellent job. Mahershala Ali's performance was one of the best television performances of 2018 and of 2019, realistic portrayal of a man with dementia and him portraying the same character in three time lines has to be hard as they are all very different, extraordinary work. Nic Pizzolatto created another season of superb drama and a mystery on the same scale as the first season, can't wait for the fourth season.

- GoofsThe only civilian "hand-held" GPS units in 1990 were the Magellan NAV 1000 and the Voyager Loran C. They were about 9 inches by 5 inches and thick. All they could do was receive, and that by logging into three satellites, one at a time, and then calculating the data for an approximate location. They did not transmit.
The "beepers " police used to track cars, etc. were small short-range radio transmitters - no GPS, you had to follow them (ground or air) with a receiver. So, not only impossible in 1990, but almost literally unimaginable. Also, in 1990 the US government, which controlled the GPS satellites, degraded the location accuracy for civilian use until 1999.
