  • Like the other reviewers sad this is just a poor copy of home alone. Not bad for background noise but that's about it, it's a cute little story and at least no ones a brat. Apparently all the mother can do is constantly complain about how cold she is. So if you're stuck watching this have a drink every singe time she mentions how cold she is. You'll either be buzzed enough to find this funny or pass out

    Christmas Break-In (2019) U Netflix

Oh wow. Boy, oh boy, oh boy. When I coined the term 'Christmas Crapola Movie' it was meant to mean festive films that were lame but, hopefully, enjoyably so. There is nothing enjoyable about this pile of poopola.

Christmas Break-In is a desperately poor man's Home Alone, right down to:

The plot (A kid is left in a school on their own and has to defend it from baddie thieves) The baddies being called 'The Ice Cream Truck Bandits' The parents realising they've forgotten their kid and yelling in unison 'We did it again!' The kid running screaming down the corridors yelling as they go nuts when they realise they're on their own The kid setting home made traps to catch the baddies A 'traps being prepared by the kid' montage Befriending a lonely old man at the denouement

Despite its lack of originality, Christmas Break-In could have been fun knockabout nonsense. It isn't. It's horrifically poor on every level. The biggest question is, despite the presence of actual actors you've heard of (Danny Glover and Denise Richards): WHY CAN NO ONE IN THIS FILM ACT? AT ALL? IT'S YOUR JOB, DAMMIT!

Christmas Cheese Rating: 6/10. They've made a token attempt with the decor and odd bits here and there, but it doesn't even feel very Christmassy.

Snow Rating: 9/10. The backdrop is a big winter storm blowing in, so they've gone somewhere snowy to actually film this. No scenes where you can tell they've just sprayed a fire extinguisher around, thankfully.

Actually Any Good Rating: 3/10. This is just embarrassingly bad. I only watched it to the end so I could tell you how terrible it was. You don't need to bother. Even your kids will be bored. Just rewatch Home Alone instead.

    Warning: Spoilers
They should call this movie school alone. Three bumbling robbers...even a rip-off of the robbers from home alone "the ice cream truck bandits". Two parents who are negligent...how far do they work from where their daughter goes to school??? A loner who has a hidden talent and has a heart towards the lead child in distress. The bandits have two bags full of what seems like change...wowsers, they stole a hundred bucks in dimes and nickels! Even the dialogue is sad and terrible. I am giving this five stars anyway bc Danny Glover deserves better than this. For the sequel to this the girl goes to visit her brother in college at NYU and gets lost on campus...they'll call it school alone 2: lost in New York...University. 😂
  • The kid's didn't like how careless the parents are and make up for abandoning their daughter by buying her things. Not a good lesson in this one. (Danny Glover was way too good for this)
  • The acting of most the adults on this film is as bad as a crime as the original robbery. The plot is tired and used. I cannot say how bad this film was.

    Watched this with my kids

Why Denise Richards and Danny Glover (albeit not the best actors ever) put their name to this is beyond me. Except for the cash in.

Tried to be a bit like home alone. Failed miserably.

Characters and plot are bottom of the barrel. Zero action, not funny and 100% not entertaining.

Spend your hour and a half doing anything else.
  • Stunned how bad this film was! Can't believe they got Danny Glover to star in it

Except for Glover and O'Brien, the acting was third rate. Some parts were cute and the story had possibilities but the settings were uninspiring and the directing amateurish. Also thought that the brother's character should have played a more important part.
  • Has is come this far? Danny glover should've quit acting after this. Poor man. Deserved better.
  • Forget that it's derivative and predictable: it's holiday entertainment, and should be watched as such. In the right frame of mind, it's really rather fun!
  • I was highly disappointed with this movie. The storyline is really dumb and the events that take place are so unrealistic!!!!! The parents are possibly THE WORST and dumbest parents I've ever seen. They are irresponsible, selfish, careless and do some really dumb stuff throughout the film. I feel bad that Danny Glover, who is actually a good actor, signed up to this abysmal excuse for a movie!!!

If you understand they are going for goofy light hearted fun then you will enjoy. I loved it !
  • Good kids movie. No academy awards here, but some funny moments, especially the sleigh scene.
  • I get that this is a light-hearted movie but I was not entertained at all. The characters are all one-dimensional and cliched. Even the girl's tactics are not believable at all.

    Awful
I hated this film and don't know why I kept watching it. Very slow and rubbish storyline. I would not recommend at all! Don't put yourself through it. Acting is Bad.
  • How did this make the cut? An example of terrible writing, uninspired story telling and weak acting. It feels like it was pulled together last minute. Danny Glover must have been desperate to star in this. Also why the Home Alone copy cat, do something original. I'm amazed Netflix added this to their collection, worse promote it.
  • Just a bad movie. The kid is a very far cry from a natural. She needs lessons. That blonde curly sue hair can't carry her. Bad parenting, bad acting, just a bad film I wasted my time on.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A lot of slating on here, but we found it ok to watch, but probably for the wrong reasons as my wife is a teacher. The amount of CPS infringements were astounding, little girl spends her time alone in the janitors room, same girl left alone in a school after it closes with no adults on the last day of term. Parents who forget to pick up their child on a regular basis etc. The acting was charming though, with 'Barbi' doing a great job as the evil robber lumbered with two dim men, just shows should never just fall for the hot ones. The parents, where do I start, Richards looked tired and far in excess of her 47 years despite tons of shiny makeup, the husband, my wife would have divorced through his total ineptitude, she was in stitches over the goats. Despite having a child home alone in a school, they decide to take time to spend it a barn. There was so much going on, we were never bored, ok its not a great high budget movie, but I liked it far more than than the bratty kid in home alone, which I guess it alludes to. The final icing on the cake was the present of an empty guitar case, what a dad, ok so it sets up Glover to gift, but even so, poor child. I was not spent clockwatching waiting for the end. Take it what is it, a lighthearted kids film and just go with it.
  • I decided to watch because someone said it is similar to Home Alone. NOT-IN-A-MILLION-YEARS!
  • Not sure why this movie got so many bad reviews. It's a cute kids' movie, nothing more. My kids (10 & 14 years old) liked it, as did I. I do agree with other reviewers that it had a "Home Alone" ripoff feel to it, but I still thought it was cute. It is always nice to have a movie without any questionable content, so my kids can watch!

As others have pointed out, this is a cheap rip-off of Home Alone. I'm not sure why Danny Glover would add this to his dossier, but even Robin Williams had 'RV'. It doesn't matter that the acting is awful, with the exception of Glover, because the writing couldn't have been worse. The next time Netflix goes bargaining shopping looking to add to their repertoire, someone there should actually watch it to see what they're subjecting their audience to.

Enjoyed watching this movie. Movie for the whole family to watch. Some funny moments.
  • It was cute but it kinda mimicked home alone. I would of liked it better if it had a different story plot
  • Over half of the camera shots are not centered on the individual. It cuts off half of their face so we can see the inanimate objects next to these people. Weird.

Not sure what is the worst part of this movie- the acting, the plot or the length.. its painfully boring and static!!
