I like the game he is fun to play, but I also liked the first game, I love it's a open world game (wish Doom 2016 was also), it has a OK story, end is a little bit a let down, also way to easy, but you have MANY good side quests, with a LOT to explore, if you explore everything and do all the side quests you easily do more then 25 over it, a bit longer than Rage 1, a pity most bosses looked the same, but is not bad hhh enough to not want to play the game more, the Apocalyptic world is great and feels a lot of times like Fallout 3 and 4, but with much better graphics, a lot enemies and monsters, great bunch of cars, a pity you can only upgrade one car the rest you can steel and then own you cannot upgrade, you really need a car in this game, its a big world, love all the different parts in the world, love the rainforest part looks VERY good.

    Yes would recommend this game.
  • Rage 2 is certainly a fun game to play with excellent combat and a beautiful world to explore. Specifically the weapons and abilities are a tone of fun to use and there is enough variation between in order to always be interesting. Now the world is separated between 5 different biomes with different environments like dessert, forest and canyon you are tasked to explore this world in order to upgrade your character and progress through the story. There is a mediocre varity of activities to do like clearing bandit dens, destroing convoys clearing mutants nests and more. The story isn't particularly interesting the characters lack of depth and it's pretty much serves as an excuse to start your journey also the side quests are pretty basics consisting of clearing a specific activity like those mentioned above. To conclude this game isn't for people who look for a captivating story and interestimg characters is for people who want an action packed game filled with activities to complete and an awesome combat system to dive in
  • I cannot disincentivize the game for what it does well. The game is a high flying shooter with excellent build components and satisfying combat.

If that's okay by you, this game delivers.

They did away with most of the racing elements, making it more optional. The first race, though was mandatory. If you are like me, you will grit your teeth through it and never touch it again.

Most of the characters in this game are more over the top than they were in the first. When you create such bombastic personalities, one detaches from association with them and the story and motive to play the story suffers. Even Borderlands didn't go this far.

The villain was simply a sadistic jerk who wanted to recreate the species - though the reason why was never quantified. In reaction to Rage 1's "Why should I hate the Authority!?", Rage 2 went all the way the other side and created a stick figure rather than a being with a logical train of thought.

ID games has never been big on story and their games have all suffered for it. I would rather no story than the stuff they continuously deliver. Would I start the game as a marine with a pistol and fill in the blanks or Satan's nightmare (and where do you go from there!?!?). The thing is, without believable story content in any game, you might as well be playing tiddlywinks in a sandbox.

If you are looking for a game with great depth and character development, then this is DEFINITELY not the game for you. If you are looking for a game where you can be crazy and blow stuff up in cool environments then this might be something worth checking out. Borderlands meets doom.

Rage 1 was an abomination. Not in the 'Oh my god it's so bad' way, but in the 'so boring and bad nobody paid attention to it' aspect. Rage 2 said hey, you can't ignore me if I'm just meaningless destructive fun can you? Think of Rage 2 as an open world version of the new Doom game of 2016. You run around, blowing up as much stuff as possible and causing havoc and destruction anywhere you can. And, surprisingly, it is a decent amount of fun. The rest of the game can be taken with a grain of salt, with bland characters, story, and everything else. But the murdering is fun.

    Warning: Spoilers
Rage 2 is a sequel absolutely none asked for, to the first Rage game, that was released in 2010!

The first Rage was an ambitious but low-badget effort, for a low-badget Doom-like game, with Mad Max-y elements. You were an Ark survivor and had to survive in the wasteland that was now the world, after the apocalypse. The story was nowhere to be found, until you choose to fight with the resistence against the Authority. The ending was poor at least and extremely cliffhangerish.

In Rage 2 we are 30 years after the finale of the first Rage and Authority is back with a vengeance. They have kept all the good elements of Rage and enrichened them with loans from Borderlands, giving an unbelievably enjoyable ride. The story is again average and the ending a bit poor, but at least satisfactory. The best element is the open world and the far better driving mechanics, that gave me personally what I was expecting from Far Cry New Dawn, but was disappointed. A mindless and violent game with fast pacing.
  • Rage 2 is a gorgeous looking game with a fun combat loop. I don't see how that can be denied by anyone who plays it. What also cannot be denied is the following: the open world is bland and un memorable, the storyline is pretty terrible, the endgame is somewhat of a letdown, and after you finish the game there's no reason to go back and replay it. It's a fun ride all things considered, but Rage 2 carries the same problems as it's predecessor while introducing new ones.
  • I'll admit the game is glitchy , but it's really fun , the guns are sweet and vehicles are awesome !!!

Average to slightly above average shooter at best with a below average story. If you're a huge Doom fan you'll most likely enjoy Rage 2 as well. I'm glad I just rented. Base game content took me 11hrs and 50mins to complete with about an hr or 2 in my playthrough doing side quests.

Game is a blast - weapons upgrades ability upgrades vehicle upgrades and garage and open world and convoy busting and really everything is fun in this game.
  • Rage 2 is an unfunny, empty, sad sequel to Rage and just barely scrapes by as an acceptable to play game. I had a choice, Coming off of the fallout killer The Outer Worlds and Call of Duty Modern Warfares excellent campaign I was looking for a casual fun enjoyable game where I could sit back and have a blast mowing down enemies and causing chaos so Rage felt like the obvious choice. It was coincidentally available on Xbox Game Pass so I eagerly downloaded and booted it up. For the first few hours it felt ok, not strong by any means but acceptable. The story felt non existent but thats fine aslong as the gunplay was great I told myself. At first the guns felt smooth and reacted well, the new abilities felt decent enough but as time passed the distinct lack of new and exciting guns became noticeable and the abilities on a higher difficulty were pointless and you stayed behind cover only to peak out and shoot every few seconds. The loot was stale an hour in and the menial repetitive tasks such as destroying large towers scattered throughout the map wore on me. The towers only have direct line of sight meaning you hide behind a corner and wait for it to fire, once it stops you peak out and empty your clip then hide again, repeat 4-5 times till the tower is destroyed and you get some meaningless instantly forgettable loot as a 'reward'. Does that sound like fun to you ? The driving feels sloppy and poorly executed and the overall map when not shooting towers is just a few camps that all require the same tactic, take out enemies in the same way, loot the same containers and then repeat at the next camp. The story as previously said offered no real depth of any kind and was simply an after thought to developers it seems. Characters felt bland and generic, and the ending was so abrupt it was actually funny to witness, ironically being the only time I laughed during the whole game. Overall if you like Doom you'll feel at home with Rage's gunplay but you will probably still agree on the lack of story and map diversity. But for me to go from playing this to then playing the absolutely fantastic, funny, witty, looty, shooty Borderlands 3 it was such an eye opener on what a solid alternate FPS should be. Cant in good faith recommend this game unless you want to sit on your couch with the same stoic facial expression playing a quick 8-12 hours of bland story and pointless activities all to laugh at an awful ending to a game and feel a sense of regret you even invested any time at all. 5/10

    Warning: Spoilers
I bought this game on launch day! A really fun game! I would highly recommend!
  • What a complete garbage!!! Could have been the game of the year for me but nope, it's actually the worst. Can tell for sure more than 10 things bethesda fu**ed up completely and as if this wasn't enough, even this bug where you can't proceed in the game (unable to enter the authority base even with a xerxes and waymarkers disappearing)??? Leaving you there with an unfinished game. Not fixing such a heavy bug in an AAA game??? Are you serious? Wanted to pre order Doom eternal these days but no thx. Not buying bethesdatrash for a few years for sure now. And then all the graphic incompatibilities, omg did Bethesda even read their tickets or forums about their game in the web? 50% of people have horrible graphical issues including me. I solved them by using another monitor and tweaking stuff for hours to find the right settings, but thats for sure not an acceptable solution. This is just incredible. Ruining a top game like this.
  • Feels like an extension of Mad Max. Shooting game play is awesome, just the best that I have experienced. Compelling history and rich lore. Definitely will at again to make different choices.
  • I wouldn't usually write a review but I had to get, how appalling this game is off my chest. Graphics are no better than last gen consoles. Controls are fiddly and slow. Gameplay is worse than a pre production demo version. Story is boring and detached. There's more glitches than a noise artists album on bandcamp. Sound just randomly stops. Game constantly crashes. The worst game I've played in years.

You know what? This game is fun, shooting angry mutans with crazy guns, but it really nothing else to really make me interested in the games story, setting or characters. Its a shallow game that is ridiculously hard, if I die I have to start the entire mission over again. Rage 2 is anything but totally interesting just frustrating. I cant tell how many times I have died, and screamed at the TV screen, and I am only the second level in the entire bloody game. I have set the difficulty to easy and I still just die, die, die. By all means the game is still fun but it can only go so long before the average gamer plays something more sustainable.
  • Reviewed for PS4.

As somebody who loved the first Rage, I had hoped for years that we'd get a sequel. After all, if there was one weakness in the first game, it's that it didn't end as much as it just stopped. After my miffedness had passed, I thought to myself "if there's a sequel which resolves this, then all will be forgiven". Well, here it is! Rage 2!

It's been 30 years since the ark survivors were freed at the conclusion of the first Rage, and a great war with the villainous Authority has taken place. With the Authority defeated, the remaining troops of the resistance set about creating relative peace in the wasteland. However, still very much alive, the Authority had retreated underground, performing experiments and rebuilding their numbers. Now, re-grouped and re-armed, they have found their moment to strike. Systematically wiping out the remaining nanotrite enhanced rangers from the arks, you (as the son/daughter of two of the original ark survivors) are the only one who can take on the mantle of ranger, arming yourself with the advanced technologies of the arks in order to take the fight to the Authority and end them once and for all. Sound good? You'd be right!

Now many have complained that the RPG elements are nowhere near as deep as Fallout or Borderlands. To be honest, I don't think they were ever meant to be. This is a shooter, and it's one of the most fun shooters I've ever played. The combat is remarkable, reminiscent of Doom (2016), especially as you upgrade your skills. The feeling of power is amazing as you blast through hordes of bandits and mutants, slam enemies into walls or smash them beneath you with the push of a button.

This is an open world game, with plenty of bandit camps to demolish and vehicles to find, although they're mostly for collecting since your starting car should be more than sufficient. You can upgrade it with new weapons and skills, and it's always fun to tear around the wasteland finding new opportunities to kick butt. I honestly found myself straying from the main story purely because the combat is so satisfying that taking down the various bandit camps around the world and finding all the arks to upgrade my powers/find new weapons was so much fun!

There are a few nitpicks, however. The inventory/map screen is rather laggy sometimes. It's not game breaking, but it can be a nuisance. The main storyline is, admittedly, not going to win any awards. It's not bad, but it's definitely the gameplay which is the star of the show here, not the story. Which brings me to a bit of a weird complaint, but it may be worth noting: the shotgun in this game is brutal, especially once it's upgraded. I felt like there was little need to use my other weapons once I had it. The best shooters utilise their weapons evenly. The best tool for the job kinda thing. Well for most of the game, I found myself using the shotgun, reserving the rocket launcher for bigger enemies, and only changing it up when I ran out of shells, which was rare since there's ammo everywhere! Does this hinder the experience? I'm not sure, because that shotty is so much fun to fight with, I didn't really mind, but you may feel differently.

In summary, this game rocks and I had such a blast playing it. I'm not sure if we'll ever see Rage 3, but I hope we do!

    Happy gaming!
  • I keep seeing that this game is basically Doom mixed with Far Cry. Couldn't be further from the truth. Far Cry, for all of its problems, at least has a semblance of a story, meaningful customization and upgrades, and multiple ways to complete missions. In Rage 2, every mission is the exact same.

    • go to an enemy outpost and kill everyone
    • go to a mutant pit and kill everyone but ALSO destroy all the life spores

And by the way there's no stealth option, so the only way you can clear an outpost is by busting in guns blazing. The game doesn't allow you to deviate from this at all.

    • go to an authority sentry, stand still, and shoot at it, and then hide behind cover when it starts shooting you. Very action packed.

    • go to a "story" mission and sit through a cutscene
    • go to a racing track and win the race (why is there racing in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone is trying to fight each other?)
    • hijack a convoy and initiate a car chase (okay this one is actually cool)

All of these missions play out exactly the same. If you did one, you did them all. It's the definition of corporate open world sludge as an excuse for a $60 game. Glad I picked it up at Walmart for $12.

Maybe this could be forgivable if the game had a competent use interface. But it doesn't. The menu takes 20 seconds to switch tabs and sections, and the upgrade system is tedious. And it takes 30 seconds to flip over to it because of the delay. You can't fix the lag in the MENU?

The map is also terrible since all the logos are made with neon lighting, and a lot of them have the same shape, so it's hard to tell what icon is what, and the legend is on a different section of the menu??? WHY?

On top of that, there's no weapon customization, so you can't add scopes, magazines, stocks, or even silencers.

People often wonder why video games are "boring" now or they "aren't what they used to be." It's because of games like this where you just drive from location to location doing the same boring tasks and nearly falling asleep. No amount of shooting is going to make your game more fun. Trust me, there ARE good games out there, but games like Rage 2 are the disease, not the cure.
  • Well I know I'm not in the maturity here and that's fine. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion aren't they? Of course the story it's not the best but it was worth watching it play out.

the driving was okay but I found the handling especially when you're taking corners or slapping it in reverse to be pretty bad.

The gunplay was excellent the choice of weapons was pretty cool. I think there was just too many upgrade trees realistically for a game like this.

That being said I really enjoyed the game and hopefully it'll be some exceptional DLC add-on for it.

One thing I wish all developers would do but have a language filter. and I know you're like well you're blowing people to pieces so you might as well want to hear all of the f-bombs. That is not the case it would be much more enjoyable if you could turn that stuff off.
  • The action is the is the most memorable thing in this game. The open world environment is incredible to look at and loved driving around the new open world. If you rush through the story because that's all your into that makes me wonder what even made you buy this game! personally the combats on point with a little doom just like I wanted and bought the game for and the vehicle combat I actually enjoy for once. Great game to me. if you take the time to search the vast open world map you can find loads to do before even tackling main story, shooting is superb, abilities is awesome, game is just seriously fun & gory in all the right ways.
