Harlan Coben adaptations have taken over Netflix. In 2025 alone, the streamer has rolled out three new thriller series: Missing You, Just One Look and Caught. Coming up next is the television series adaptation of Coben's 2023 bestselling novel I Will Find You, and so much anticipation is already building.
The mystery thriller was first announced to be in the works back in November 2024. Its greenlighting wasn’t unexpected, as Coben has an ongoing partnership with Netflix, where his novels are to be adapted into English-language and foreign-language series or films. The streaming giant decided to hand out an eight-episode order for I Will Find You, with Robert Hull as the showrunner and writer. You might recognize Hull from his past writing credits on shows such as Gossip Girl, Once Upon a Time, Gotham, Pennyworth and Monarch. He's also signed on as an executive producer on I Will Find You along with Bryan Wynbrandt,...

Netflix’s new medical drama “Pulse” has officially landed on the streamer, and it boasts a vibrant cast that’s ready to clock in for their shifts.
“Pulse,” which was created Zoe Robyn with Carlton Cuse serving as co-showrunner, focuses on the daily happenings at Miami’s Level 1 trauma center Maguire Medical Center and the lives of its staffers.
Here’s Netflix’s official description of the series: “As a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them begin to spill out. Twenty years ago, “Grey’s Anatomy” opened with the premise: What if a pretty surgical intern hooked up with her hot neuro attending and romance ensued? “Pulse,” a new medical drama created by Zoe Robyn, attempts a twist on this premise: What if a resident hooked up with her chief … and then she accused him of sexual harassment?
It’s a compelling spin on a problematic trope (work romance between people with a significant gap in power dynamic), but does it work? The answer is: Sort of.
Created by Zoe Robyn with Carlton Cuse as co-showrunner, Netflix’s “Pulse” drops us in the midst of two separate storms. One is the very literal Hurricane Abby, which is about to hit Miami’s fictional Maguire Medical Center. The other is the revelation that Maguire’s chief resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is being investigated over the harassment claims made by his underling,...

On the journey towards today's full-blown "superhero fatigue" (something James Gunn and Peter Safran hope to solve with their DC Studios vision), there was a brief period where everybody was bemoaning the way comic book movies seemed as if they were required to absolutely level entire cities during their final acts. 2013's "Man of Steel" was perhaps the worst offender, with its final showdown between Henry Cavill's Superman (who never got a great Superman movie) and Michael Shannon's General Zod resulting in untold damage to the city of Metropolis and almost certainly killing hundreds of civilians. A year prior, the Avengers had similarly ransacked New York in an attempt to save the city from Loki's alien hordes.
In 2017, somebody decided it was time to focus on the faceless civilians who routinely suffered as a result of all these superheroic showdowns, and "Powerless" was born. The sitcom, set...

With Clayface joining the new Dcu, James Gunn is tackling the latest casting rumors.
On Thursday, the DC Studios boss took to Threads to shoot down reports that Daniel Radcliffe would take the lead as the titular supervillain in the upcoming Mike Flanagan-written, James Watkins-directed movie, which is set for a Sept. 11, 2026 premiere.
“As we confirmed the other day, we’re closing a deal with James to direct,” wrote Gunn in the post. “Because we don’t have a director yet, we haven’t even started the casting process. Daniel is great but we certainly haven’t talked to or considered him. So this one is 100% false.”
After Deadline reported Watkins is set to direct, Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran announced that filming is set to begin this summer. “Clayface isn’t widely known as Penguin or Joker, but we think his story is as deeply resonant, thrilling and even more terrifying,...

The movie was confirmed in December 2024, with critically acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan set to write the script but no director. The search for the person who would direct the film continued well into 2025, with two potential horror directors reportedly in the final stages to direct the film, Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Per The Hollywood Reporter, Watkins is officially set to direct Clayface.

DC Studios has finally found a director to mold Clayface.
After several months of searching, Speak No Evil helmer James Watkins has been chosen to direct the feature based on the Batman villain, which has a script from horror maestro Mike Flanagan.
Sources say that DC co-chief James Gunn met with Watkins Thursday for a final presentation that led to the nod of nabbing the gig. A deal will now be hammered out.
Clayface was first introduced in 1940 and known for his ability to shape-shift. Sources say the film is budgeted at $40 million and is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay. The movie is due to shoot later this year and is meant to show the breadth of DC material,...

First announced publicly in March 2024 (although in development for at least a year before that), the series marks a first for Netflix, at least when it comes to its English-language programming. Although it’s licensed plenty of medical dramas over the years, it’s never made one itself—at least not a procedural.

DC Studios is moving full steam ahead with their Clayface movie, which already has a screenplay ready to go by horror auteur Mike Flanagan and a current release date of September 11, 2026. The next stage of the development process is finding the right director, and the DC brass has two potential names in mind for the job.
Per Deadline, Jeff Wadlow and James Watkins are being eyed for the job, and DC Studios is ready to hear pitches from both directors next week. Other directors could very well be in the mix, but these are the two names that are coming out ahead of the rest. Wadlow just recently directed the horror film Imaginary last year, and his other credits include Truth or Dare, the horror remake of Fantasy Island, and Kick-Ass 2, among others. Danny Cannon has racked up a lot of directing credits over the last 35 years, including credits on episodes of CSI, CSI: Miami, Dark Blue, Nikita, Shameless, Gotham, Pennyworth, and Gotham Knights, among others – but he’s best known for making a couple of feature films back in the 1990s: the poorly received Sylvester Stallone comic book adaptation Judge Dredd and the slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (which is indeed canon to the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel that’s being made). Now, Deadline reports that Cannon has signed on to direct a high-concept horror thriller called Obey, which Altitude will be presenting to potential buyers at the European Film Market.

Batman may sometimes act like a spoiled, self-suffering teen when it comes to his former guardian and pseudo father, Alfred Pennyworth. However, a closer look at the character reveals that Alfred is undeniably one of DC’s most unproblematic and beloved figures—so much so that the fandom is more than willing to overlook his rare red flags.
DC has elevated Alfred from the unsung hero of the Bat-Family to a virtual Dcu saint.
Alfred Pennyworth stands out in the DC Universe not just as Batman’s butler, but as one of the most beloved and unproblematic characters in the entire roster. In a world full of morally complex and often troubled figures, Alfred offers a refreshing contrast with his unwavering integrity and pure heart.
What makes him truly remarkable is that, after more than 80 years in comics, there are few, if any, major flaws or controversies tied to...

Showrunner Bruno Heller first gained notoriety for creating the historical epic series Rome before developing the procedural show The Mentalist. Centered on a faux psychic named Patrick Jane, the show saw him collaborate with the California Bureau of Investigation in multiple cases while trying to pursue his wife’s killer.
The show lasted seven seasons and amassed a huge fanbase, especially around lead actor Simon Baker. Heller had at the time only created Rome, and his next show immediately became a hit. When asked what inspired him to develop the series, he said that he wanted to create a character like Sherlock Holmes.

James Gunn had zero plans to make a 'Clayface' movie until he received a "wonderful idea" from writer Mike Flanagan. The DC Studios co-chairman has revealed it wasn't until he received a solid pitch from the acclaimed horror writer - who is also working on the upcoming 'Exorcist' reboot and has penned the likes of 'The Haunting of Hill House, 'The Fall of the House of Usher' and 'Doctor Sleep' - that he considered making a film all about DC Comics' shape-shifting supervillian. He told io9: "I didn’t plan on making a Clayface movie. Mike came in. He pitched this wonderful idea. I was like, ‘Damn, I can’t believe you got me to want to make a Clayface movie.’ But he’s got to write the script and who knows how that’s going to work. He goes and he writes the script.

Horror legend Mike Flanagan has just picked his latest project, and it's a very exciting one. The acclaimed filmmaker has just wrapped The Life of Chuck, an adaptation of Stephen King's short story of the same name. He's working on a new Carrie television series and a reboot of The Exorcist, but in addition to all of that, Variety has reported that he will next write a script for DC's upcoming Clayface film.

Clayface is officially joining the new DC Universe more than a year after Mike Flanagan pitched his take on the shapeshifting supervillain.
Deadline has confirmed that Flanagan has been tapped to write the script for DC Studios amid his work on the upcoming Exorcist reboot. We understand the studio is still searching for a director.

The film marks the filmmaking debut of British theatre director Tom Brennan (The Last of the Pelican Daughters). The team is submitting the movie for 2025 festivals.
The official synopsis reads: “Something terrible has happened to Annette’s (Paetz) friend, Vivian, and everyone’s decided to move on from it. Everyone except Annette. She will not ‘process’. She will not forgive. She’s going to make an allegorical sci-fi film – a reflection on women’s accommodation of male dominance – whether or not Vivian wants her to. I’m not saying HBO’s The Penguin is derivative, but it’s the second TV show in less than six months in which Colin Farrell plays a character obsessed with the glamour of black-and-white Old Hollywood movies — specifically using clips from Gilda to evoke nostalgia for a period that our hero is too young to have experienced firsthand, a poignant yearning for a world with mystique and morality that no longer exist.
Built into the semi-recent spate of origin stories for classic TV and movie villains — Norman Bates, the Joker, half of the nefarious Disney catalogue — is an indictment of non-empathetic viewership.
These revisionist approaches to iconic tales assume that, in the process of goading audiences into rooting for figures more traditionally coded as “hero,” there was a failure to acknowledge that even the seemingly worst of figures have their awfulness rooted in very human conditions: loneliness, trauma, treatable mental illness,...

The sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 and historical drama The Winter King have both been cancelled at MGM+, though the two shows may still be rescued. Both shows premiered in the latter half of 2023, with The Winter King positioning itself as a retelling of Arthurian legends. As for Beacon 23, which starred Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey and Homecoming star Stephan James, it is based on the novels of the same name by Hugh Howey. The latter followed two characters who have to learn to trust each other after they're seemingly trapped at the end of the known universe.
TVLine confirms that Beacon 23 and The Winter King have both been axed at MGM+. In the case of Beacon 23, the thriller's run is ending after two seasons and 16 episodes. The Winter King, meanwhile, had already been cancelled by co-producer ITV and will not be picked up by MGM+. Still,...

The movie Tarot features a group of college friends being hunted by a deck of tarot cards. Despite negative reviews, Tarot surpassed its budget. The actors bring tension and scare to the film, with notable performances by Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Jacob Batalon, and others in key roles.
The scares and drama of Tarot follow a group of college friends who are perfectly brought to life by their actors. The movie is about seven friends being hunted and killed by a deck of tarot cards, which they use against their better judgment. The cast itself is relatively small, and by Tarot's ending, several deaths and shocking twists have happened.
Though reviews of Tarot claim the characters are thin, the cast is ultimately able to execute the film effectively to create tense moments and scares. Though it has many negative ratings, Tarot was able to quintuple its budget, in part because of the cast's performances.

Warning! The Following Contains Spoilers from Deadpool & Wolverine.Emma Corrins villainous Cassandra Nova closes Johnny Storms (Chris Evans) fast-talking, big mouth once and for all in Deadpool & Wolverine. Evans, who is best-known for portraying Steve Rogers, aka Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, started his Marvel journey by portraying the Fantastic Fours hot-headed rebel, Johnny Storm, back in 2005. And Evans cameo in the new Deadpool movie is amazing, but its also quite short-lived, because Cassandra murders Storm as soon as she catches her little firefly. When asked how it felt to kill off Johnny, Corrin said in an interview with British GQ:
Absoooolutely mad. I felt so bad when we were in the screening the other day, because we watched it after the New York premiere with all these Lincoln Center full of fans. And everyone was so excited when they see him appear on-screen. And then after three minutes,...

Until "Longlegs" became the biggest box office surprise of the year, things weren't looking all that great for horror in 2024. A usually reliable genre was seemingly losing some of its appeal, as no one single film was able to repeat the breakout success of 2023's "Talk To Me" or "Skinamarink." Sydney Sweeney's dour nun horror pic "Immaculate" failed to wow critics and the generic yet enjoyable "Night Swim" couldn't quite become the breakout hit Universal were surely hoping for. Neither of these films were out and out financial failures, but it's actually quite difficult to lose a ton of money when your budgets are around the to $9-15 million mark.
Of course, the aforementioned "LongLegs" has proven that horror can still very much succeed at the box office, especially if you deploy one of the best marketing campaigns of recent years to support it. Which, as it happens, is...

Where are all my horror fans? Netflix recently added 10 horror films to its platform on the first of August. While I recommend checking out each new release, the one that should be at the top of your watchlist is the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. This movie is criminally underrated, in my opinion, when it really deserves all the love and attention.
Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) wrote and directed Tarot, making it their feature film directorial debuts. Like most movies nowadays, Tarot is based on another piece of work. It's based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Although panned by critics, the horror flick still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $49 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.
Here's how I see it. It's okay to read critic reviews but don't let what someone else has said and their opinions deter you from watching a movie. Who knows,...

It can be argued that Deadpool and Wolverine barely had or even needed a plot except as an excuse to bring together a plethora of characters from yesteryear’s Marvel movies, but even with that being the case, the prime antagonist of the movie, Cassandra Nova Xavier, stole the show, being the only character whose arc, origin, and portrayal were intriguing enough to keep the audience invested in the narrative. In particular, fans who have followed actor Emma Corrin since the initial days of her acting career—from a brief stint in Epix’s DC series Pennyworth to her career best performance in The Crown, were not at all surprised to see that even with a very brief screen time in Deadpool and Wolverine, she absolutely owned the role of Cassandra as a cruel, psychotic mutant ruler of the Void—whose enhanced psychic powers rival even those of her twin brother,...

During the Super Bowl, the teaser trailer for ‘Deadpool 3’ was released as predicted, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what appears to be the next exciting chapter in the MCU. Among the revelations in the trailer is the appearance of Cassandra Nova as the movie’s main villain, confirming rumors that surfaced back in August 2023. We had previously speculated that Charles Xavier might also have a role in the film due to Cassandra’s involvement. For those unfamiliar with Cassandra, she has a tragic backstory: she was Xavier’s twin gestating in the womb.
Xavier identified her as the “Mummudrai,” the Shi’ar equivalent of an equal and opposite spirit. Despite Xavier’s genetic potential, Cassandra emerged as his physical twin. However, Xavier perceived her as malevolent and attempted to kill her with his psychic abilities, leading to a miscarriage for their mother, Sharon. In 2014 and 2015, Vertigo published Si Spencer’s eight-issue graphic novel Bodies, a mind-bending mystery about four police officers from different historical eras who discover the same corpse in the same London location, decades apart.
