Slow-moving and brooding drama in short budget with top-notch interpretations
Depressing and sad drama about an unfortunate , stressed young mother and her ex-con father , being very well played by two awesome actors : Eduard Fernández , Greta Fernández, father and daughter in real life . This La hija de un ladrón (2019) turns out to be an intense drama dealing with Sara , a young girl but a real mother in distress who holds a chaotic and marginal life . All day long she suffers feelings of sadness , isolation , stress and loneliness . Along the way, the half-deaf of her right ear Sara hard-working part-time jobs , as a cleaner or at a restaurant , as she fights to get some money and at whatever cost . Meanwhile , her father is an ex-convicted who usually discusses with her , her boyfriend rejects her , her little brother is a troublemaker , her child needs babyfood and she's half-deaf of one ear . Bad times go on and traditional rencor between the father and daughter emerges , and flourishing again ancient misunderstandings . Then the emergency situation begins to turn more and more dramatic , that's why the poor economic situation depends on Sara's lousy jobs . Things go wrong until a surprising and unexpected finale.
A depressing and some boring film about a young girl who at her 22 years old has to face a lot of distresses , penuries and family conflicts . Adding tense sequences especially in its final part in an unexpected denouement . A sad and very low budget with two actresses giving a real tour de force acting. Stars the good actor Eduard Fernández who was born in Barcelona, and specially known for El Niño (2014), Todos lo saben (2018) and El método (2005) , 1898. Los últimos de Filipinas (2016) , El hombre de las 1000 caras (2016) . Although the real starring his his daughter , Greta Fernández , who gives a nice acting as the young get in problem , without mother and either an own house, she depends of the social services. They are frankly well , though the movie results to be a simple family drama with plenty of discussion , dispute , loneliness and love at times . Other actors appearing as Àlex Monner deliver brief but adequate interpretations.
This bitter and downbeat picture was well and professionally written and directed by Belén Funes . This writer/director Belén Funes is a good craftsman who began working as a Second Unit Director or Assistant Director , Casting department and has directed some films as "The Turtles," the second feature from Belén Funes, she is one of the leading lights of Barcelona's fast-growing - and often women-led - newest wave of filmmakers. And she's made documentary and Shorts , such as : La inútil (Short), and 2015 Sara a la fuga , in fact , the latter is the Short in which was expanded to this La La hija de un ladrón (2019) that had the followings Awards and Nominations : Goya Awards 2020 Winner Goya Best New Director Belén Funes Nominee Goya Best Lead Actress Greta Fernández .
