    Fun
    Warning: Spoilers
An aspiring actor (Mika Boorem, who was in Blue Crush and also directed and co-wrote this movie with Benjamin Boorem, Cshediiz Coleman and Benjamin Lockman) has accidentally stolen the identity of a Veronica Lake (Paige Howard, Adventureland) and made her way to Guatemala to be part of a blockbuster film.

While there, a cartel leader named El Jade (Tom Arnold!) thinks she's the leader of another gang, which leads to her father Ben (Benjamin Boorem, her real-life father)having to rescue her, then work with a Mayan priest to somehow get the film made.

This is a cute film and you can tell both Boorems were looking for a project to get Mika experience in directing. It's a pretty big first effort and definitely a nice little caper film.
  • Wtf? How is this movie getting these crazy high ratings? The only redeeming quality of this movie is the music by the Boxmasters. Now I am under pressure to come up with something to say because my review is too short. How many ways can a person say BAD MOVIE. I felt compelled to give two extra stars because of Tom Arnold's nude scene. Just kidding. No nudity but some might have helped. Okay some more filler to make this review of acceptable length. Oh, I forgot to mention no animals were mutilated on film.
  • I had a great time working with Mika an the cast an crew. So much fun. Want some laughs an a wild ride? You got to check it out!
  • Can't believe this is getting 10's and 9's.

The cast and crew must have friends and family rating it . It's just not a good or mildly entertaining movie.
  • Sorry but no can do: bad acting, bad editing, fake fat suit and ok-but-not-super-funny humour make this movie a "con" rather than a "com"... (and am I being paranoid in thinking that all of the director's friends wanted to be nice to her and rated this movie like it was a chef-d'oeuvre?)
  • Terrible sound, poor acting, 0 production value. I thought it might be a case of so bad it's good.....turns out no.

So I'm doing this rating because it is truly terrible and a waste of time.

Family fun movie. Many locations. Eye candy! Eye candy everywhere. The scenery in this film is so unique. Tom Arnold as the drug king pin is so funny. This movie was inspirational and fun. I really liked Chad Roberts who played Tom Arnold's son in this.

Quirky fun cult film. Would love to see a midnight showing. Great actors - recognized a ton of them. Loved seeing this indie film take place all over the world with very eccentric weird characters. Looking forward to seeing where else these filmmakers go.
  • I like Hollywood.con because it is a comedic film that is very informative about Guatemalan culture. It contains a lot of funny scenes and is very entertaining.

This film starts off profiling a struggling actress living in Los Angeles. However, after an unexpected turn of events, the protagonist Mika (Mika Boorem) finds herself in Guatemala, working on her first ever producer job. Throughout her time there she experiences many ups and downs, and eventually finds herself. While in Guatemala, Mika and her team encounter some competition in making their film. They must work together to stay competitive, while learning how to respect the values of other cultures.

Something that I really like about this movie is how they include a mix of genres in one film. Not only is it comedic, but it is also mysterious. I love mysterious films and, including humor, makes it that much better. Another thing that I enjoyed are the fun little special effects that are included every so often. They have the right amount to create a fun dynamic, without making it become a live action film.

The message of this film is to always stay true to yourself, even during competitive times. This film does include some profanity.

I give Hollywood.con 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. Reviewed by Mikella G., KIDS FIRST!
  • This film is likely to become a cult classic. It is fun and quirky and has great characters. The father/daughter interaction is precious and it made me want to go on an adventure with them. I have enjoyed watching Mika grow up onscreen and this was a great directorial debut. I hope to see more soon!

I can never find anything to watch and constantly scroll looking for something positive that is light. So many films are dark and dreary. I liked this one ! It was chill and fun. Perfect for helping me unwind. Please make more like this !

    Enjoy
"Hollywood.con" is the feature film directorial debut of Mika Boorem; who shows her eye behind the camera is as sharp as her instincts in front of it.

A fun, (mis)adventure-filled romp that is part spoof, part satire, and fully entertaining. Feeling partly like an old school adventure and a mix of buddy comedy, Hollywood.con carries itself with it's own farcical sense of style.

I had no real idea what to expect when I started watching. Very good movie, Tom Arnold's part was hilarious. Interesting story line that kept me wondering what was next.

Super cool movie fast pace.ive watched 5 time i keep finding new twists.
  • This Movie is one that I would watch again. The casting was great, real characters , out of left field. Oddly enough, I grew up with and know people like this, that's probably why I liked it so much. Easy and fun to watch.
  • Best film since Gone With The Wind!! Loved every minute of it!

Ben and Mika Boorem have created a classic!

    Funny
They sure don't make movies like this anymore. Makes you laugh throughout the whole movie. Would definitely watch this again.
  • Lots of fun. Couldn't stop laughing at the Characters. Twist and turns, adventures and misadventures, animals. This film can be seen more than once. It reveals more each time you see it.
  • Mika Boorem is probably best known as a child actor in films The Patriot and Along Came a Spider as an huge talent with a bright future... twenty years ago. Now, she's fully grown and has evolved into a triple threat in her feature debut as writer and director, while this time being the star of the show.

Her time in Hollywood has paid off as she has learned the art of directing and created a memorable piece that is a throwback to the adventure films of the 80s and 90s, yet staying fresh to today's age in 2021. Already showing experience beyond her directing filmography, she shows an understanding of the craft and it's quite obvious she is not "directing just to direct" but directing because she is qualified and skilled.

The story itself is a fun adventure with scenic locations, solid acting (especially from Mika herself), and a plot that keeps you guessing. The best part of the whole film is seeing the directing-producing combo of Mika and her real life father, portray the same (fictional) relationship on screen. Their close-knit relationship is evident and comes through on screen.
  • This movie is a total Romancing the Stone romp. Weird Weird Weird and fun. I see Rocky Horror Show fans in line for this one. Looking for the sequel. What happened to Josh? Josh is my favorite.

This movie was so fun and sweet. I really enjoyed the father daughter aspect. I think the movie is inspiring. I laughed a lot and felt this is what I needed during the pandemic.

    Fun
I met the director and producer at a Starbucks. They gave me their card and I checked this film out. They were very nice and I thought they did a fantastic job. This movie was fun! Thanks for the laughs!
  • Full of laughs! Had so much fun watching this at the sneak screening in Arkansas and then again now on Amazon. No foul language, cussing, sex, or drugs. Thank you for making a film without all the regular grossness of Hollywood.
