Just finished this new movie, I thought it was going to be a hard edge slasher flick, but sadly its more of a thriller.
Takes place in New Mexico, which they brilliantly capture throughout the movie.
The film opens with a local getting murdered by two masked assailants that seem to be drifters. Then it leads to a town rodeo and the murders of a pair of teen lovers parked in a RV out by a campsite. These two killers seem to murder their victims and rob them as well.
Then the film shifts into slowburn mode and centers on a cowboy whose sister is planning on leaving town and their family farm behind. Two of their close friends hold a small going away party for her at the farm, and are terrorized by the killers after one of them comes across their neighbor couple being murdered. The four of them quickly must defend themselves and survive the night.
This really gives you no explanation on who the killers are and they never show them with their roadkill animal masks off.
Not overly gory or violent either, most of the violence is either not shown up close or in brief flashes.
I also had previously saw another review online where this was being compared to strangers and you're next, but this one was nowhere as intense as those two films. This one has a very slow build up, but doesn't get intense at all.
The cast was pretty good in this also. Veteran Lance Henrikson plays a smaller role in this movie.
