  • I heard about the film via facebook and I rented it for 2 days not knowing really what to expect. I found it to be a breath of fresh air. It's not like anything I'd really watched before It's not going to be for everyone but I thought the story was original. It mixed horror and comedy with some serious themes. I especially liked the interludes between stories which cracked me up. I look forward to seeing more films like this.

    Insane
Not sure what I just watched but found myself laughing through several of the shorts while being shocked at others. Some are funny and some just dark as hell. Loved gifts and god hand. The bonus shorts at the end were crazy
  • Matt Shaw did a masterful job writing and producing this. Its not for the faint of heart but if you are a Matt Shaw fan, or want an introduction to him then this is it. Undeniably fascinating for its stories of lives behind closed doors. Very slick and professional job by the cast and crew... :)
  • Loved this movie. Plenty of gore (although I honestly expected more), some head games, some wtf? moments and a lot of laughs. For being an extremely low budget movie, the acting was good, scene shots and effects were pretty decent, and of course the story line is great (can't go wrong with a Matt Shaw story). The best part of Next Door however, was how it takes 10 completely different stories and slowly weaves them into one complete, tied in film. I'll end up watching this again at some point.
  • The problem with Hollywood is their tendency to throw out the same thing over and over. Independent films like this are a breath of fresh air as they at least try and bring something new and original to the table. Sure it is not perfect (a couple of sound issues and the colour grade is a weird choice) but it is original and it was compelling viewing, if a little weird in places (in a good way).
  • Was invited to a screener and the guys running it just said to brace ourselves because it was "weird". They weren't kidding. From the very start I didn't know what was coming. completely insane. the vibe in the audience was great with people chuckling away.
  • Happy I gave this a punt. I have read Matt Shaw's work for a number of years now and recognised some of the stories being told here. The film works well and is tied up nicely at the end. There are a few issues here and there but nothing that stopped me from having a wild ride when I watched it.

    I would recommend this film.
  • Watched a screener of this. As instructed by the filmmakers, I turned my brain off and just went along for the ride and what a ride it was

I think I preferred the heavier stories to the comedic ones but as a whole it was nice to have those lighter moments, especially after the one about the dead girl. I hope they make a sequel

I don't usually leave reviews, but I absolutely love Matt Shaw's work and this one did not disappoint! Loved it!
  • First half was fairly tame compared to the second half. Nearly threw up in one of the short films! Loved it.
  • Different to other films. Its lots of short films although some of them link to each other. I thought it was cleverly done although one part was just too gross for me.

Not what I excepted at all. A number of short films which come together at the end. Glad I gave it a punt and would probably watch again just to see if it really is as strange as I first thought!
  • This film is crazy. I have watched a lot of anthology films in my time and they tend to either be great or terrible. Having watched the behind the scenes of this film I know they ran into issues when working. Actors didn't show up. Rewrites were needed on the day. A lead actress had to pull out due to pregnancy and another actress took the role over. Watching all that happened, the film shouldn't have worked and should have fallen apart but testimony to Matt Shaw's writing, he managed to find work arounds to complete the film and the end result is entirely crazy. I especially love how everything more or less ties together by the end of it with characters popping up in each other's stories. It is also worth sticking around to watch through the credits. There is a message stating that the team decided to make some 60 second shorts. These shorts are not part of the actual film but they are fun although the last one is down right disgusting and made me want to punch the television. I'd like to hang out on their next set because I think it is most likely just a huge laugh.

Got tickets for the premiere through the director's facebook. It was weird that it was all online but with social distancing no way round that. Was good seeing some of the crew talking on zoom ahead of the show and Matt Shaw's speech was funny as. Loved it! The film was as crazy as his books but as the shorts are based on his books that is hardly surprising. love love love
  • Funny talk about the film before it actually started, pointing out that the film wasn't even released properly yet and only 5 people had seen it at that point. On screen it showed the number of 1 star ratings the film. More than double the number of people who had actually see the film at that point LOL

The director explained what had happened and the "new friends" he had met which was hysterical to listen to. If the film was no good he could go into stand up comedy. Thankfully the film was good and the dark humour he had during the opening speech carried through with the stories on screen.

A great evening and a wacky film!!
  • Went to advanced screening with some of the team who made the movie. It was funny as hell, especially the slide show of a conversation Matt Shaw had had with a random guy. He was saying he was considering putting it on the DVD as a presentation before the film!!! He admitted he probably won't but "temptation was there". He had such a wicked laugh as he was explaining the filming process. Knowing all that happened behind the scenes with people not showing up on set and such, it is crazy as hell that these guys pulled this film off!
  • A break down of the film.

Vas Blackwood opens the film with a short story about a grieving man saying goodbye to his father. When we get to the end of the short, the tone is set for the rest of the movie.

It also highlights that the film isn't a big budget production so if that is what you are expecting then put that from your mind and remember it is a low budget production but completed with heart and passion.

Handy made me laugh. The girl looked great but I don't think I would be interested in having such a pleasure from her given the outcome!

Mr. Lonely is the second short and continues from the first. Again I liked the twist which I didn't see coming. From what I understand, Matt Shaw is known for his twists and turns. This is the film which made me stop guessing what is going to happen and just enjoy each tale as they come.

Amanda Clapham is a nurse dating Jamie Lomas. A dark tale about a bad day at work for her. Because all of the shorts are filmed in the same house the shots are simplistic but used to good effect. A darker tale compared to the first. More worrisome is that I learned what happened in the story actually happened to someone in real life!

A follow-on from the previous story in which Amanda's father comes on the scene to help sort the mess out for her. Unlike the other story this is funny with some great comedy timing and fantastically dark writing. Amanda is a joy to watch as we see more of her character come through. There was a weird clip before this one started that perhaps wasn't needed!

Another face I recognised from television. Jeremy Edwards is a man giving presents to his wife for her birthday. Each gift being... well I don't want to ruin it for you. I LOVED his acting in this. Weird to see him play such a character and the ending was pleasing.

Here on in things get darker. There is a weird suicide film that I didn't quite understand. What I will say is I loved how things closed up with a certain other character coming back. The final twist was a WTF moment and I had to rewind it a moment just to watch it again. As I sat there taking it all in and piecing the parts of the puzzle together, more shorts started in the credits. These are pretty stupid but I have to confess that they did make me laugh and in this day and age that's all I really need.

    Genius
Seriously, Matt Shaw is a genius writer and director. His work is captivating yet twisted! Absolutely love his technique of making the uncomfortable intriguing. Finally something new and imaginative in the market

This is exactly what we need - A film that doesnt take itself seriously but shows us how funny film can be with the right crew, actors and director. I have followed Matts film career with great hope that one day he will become the UK Tarrantino ! Also happy to be a backer for this project - Keep em coming Matt !!

As a big fan of the author Matt Shaw this was on my list to view. As always he delivers with his blend of horror and dark humour. Recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.

    Insane
Starts slow and just gets crazier and crazier as it goes on. Clearly a low budget film but then it does not pretend not to be. The acting is fun and the storeis are just mental.
  • So glad he has moved into films. I can't wait to watch more. Been a fan of his for years! I preferred this film to his first one as it was more funny.
