Exclusive: Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher) is in talks for one of four female leads in Night Electricity, an indie from her longtime collaborator Sebastian Gutierrez (Jett).
Pic’s plot is under wraps, though it’s been described as a psychological drama with thriller elements. David Lancaster is producing, with Gutierrez set direct from his own script.
Gugino recently landed a Critics Choice Award nomination for her turn as multiple characters in The Fall of the House of Usher, the acclaimed Netflix series from Mike Flanagan, with whom she’s collaborated on The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, the Stephen King adaptation Gerald’s Game and other projects. Currently, she can be seen starring on The Girls on the Bus, a political drama series that premiered on Max last month, having also been seen of late in Zelda Williams’ horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein for Focus Features.

One of the best feelings in the world is discovering a series or a movie that you didn’t know about and realizing how distinct it is from anything else out there. Since working at JoBlo.com, I have been lucky enough to come across several series that I enjoyed and got to tell you about them. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to talk to the talent involved about the project and how it came to be. Such is the case with the new Peacock series, Leopard Skin. After watching the excellent series Jett, creator/director Sebastian Gutierrez and star Carla Gugino were kind enough to let me know about their latest project, this half-hour crime series that debuted on Peacock recently (check out our review).
Leopard Skin can be categorized as a heist series, a thriller, a drama, or any number of labels but it thrives by not being locked down to one genre.

Plot: A criminal gang takes two women and their guests hostage when they seek shelter in a remote paradise, where secrets, betrayals and desires bubble to the surface as everyone awaits their fate.
Review: Never underestimate a well-crafted heist. A masterfully constructed plan, whether or not it goes awry, is always a sight to behold. Like a Rube-Goldberg Device or painstakingly arranged rows of dominoes, I am a sucker for a good heist story. Over the years, film and television have played home to stellar examples of this but many are focused on trying to one-up what came before rather than revel in the story itself. Sebastian Gutierrez’s latest project, the Peacock original series Leopard Skin, is a prime example of the pulpy fun you can get out of a heist and its aftermath by pitting a group of characters opposite one another with only the prospect of survival driving them.

TV audiences best know actress Carla Gugino for her recent work with Mike Flanagan on Netflix. But Gugino also has a long-time working relationship with another director, Sebastian Gutierrez. In fact, she stars in several of his films, including his 1998 debut “Judas Kiss” and his latest, 2018’s “Elizabeth Harvest.” She also headlines Guiterrez’s 2019 Cinemax crime-comedy series “Jett,” about a world-class ex-thief who slowly regresses back into a life of crime.

Exclusive: C.J. Cooke’s supernatural family novel The Lighthouse Witches is set to be adapted into a television series after Studiocanal and The Picture Company landed the rights to the book.
The two companies closed the rights to the book and are currently packaging the series.
Published last year by Penguin Random House, the book follows young mother Liv and her three daughters who arrive on a mysterious Scottish island to run a decrepit lighthouse.
When single mother Liv is commissioned to paint a mural in a 100-year-old lighthouse on a remote Scottish island, it’s an opportunity to start over with her three daughters–Luna, Sapphire, and Clover. When two of her daughters go missing, she’s frantic. She learns that the cave beneath the lighthouse was once a prison for women accused of witchcraft. The locals warn her about wildlings, supernatural beings who mimic human children, created by witches for revenge.

Where to Watch “Jett”: HBO Max (the series originally aired on Cinemax)
One of the first things you notice about “Jett” is the color. Even in the dingiest locations, saddled with the occasional criminal underworld lowlife, there’s usually something in the frame that pops. It could be an interior drenched in neon mood lighting, a bright eye-catching accessory, or a bulb giving off any shade other than beige. This is a show set in a world of criminals, one that they’re not afraid to add a little zest to.
The best parts of this series, written and directed by Sebastián Gutiérrez, recognize the idea that all of that pizzazz means nothing if there’s nothing to the people under that glow. Luckily, “Jett” has the ultimate secret weapon in Carla Gugino. As Daisy “Jett” Kowalski, an expert-level burglar sucked back into...

Carla Gugino may have done a lot of action work in two of her latest projects — the series “Jett” (now on HBO Max) and the Netflix movie “Gunpowder Milkshake” — but she’s happy to report that she made it through both productions uninjured. But a day off from filming the upcoming “Leopard Skin” in the Dominican Republic earlier this year proved catastrophic.
“I went on this amazing hike and I was coming down a hill and I broke my wrist really badly,” Gugino tells me from her home in New York City. “I broke all the bones all the way across and then had a bunch of complications because I had to have a bonesetter on. It made me look like RoboCop, but it was a massive metal thing that was literally drilled into my bones that I had to have on for seven weeks. Then it didn’t heal...

If Pandora Season 2 Episode 6 felt weirdly familiar to you, don't worry it's not you.
The best I can figure, the whole Aluna 4 plot was an homage to Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, complete with one of the outlander heroes falling in love with a girl in the victimized town.
Gorch: Name's Gorch. You already met my daughter, Rachel.
Greg: Not formally.
Gorch: She held a gun on you, boy. Around here, you're practically engaged.

Meanwhile, Jax is once again tapped to carry out Osborn's bidding, which then involves Shral asking a favor of her to ask a favor of her mother who has to convince Tierney, her other daughter, to drop by for a chat.
Oh, and Aleka survived her wedding apparently. So, yay! for that.
It's an interesting choice to use Aluna 4 as a backdrop for a slough of resolution execution.

Exclusive: Here’s a hot one: British model and Queen & Slim actress Jodie Turner-Smith is to play Anne Boleyn in a convention-defying Channel 5 drama made by the Sony-backed Stan & Ollie producer Fable Pictures.
Deadline can reveal that the ViacomCBS-owned broadcaster has commissioned a three-part series that will examine the downfall of Boleyn through the prism of a psychological thriller rather than a stuffy period drama retreading the demise of King Henry VIII’s second wife.
Penned by newcomer Eve Hedderwick Turner, the drama shines a feminist light on the final months of Boleyn’s life, re-imagining her struggle with Tudor England’s patriarchal society, her desire to secure a future for her daughter, Elizabeth, and the brutal reality of her failure to provide Henry with a male heir.

The long awaited PlayStation 5 is finally hitting stores on November 12th, along with a bunch of new titles for the next-gen console. While some will be launching on the same day as the PS5, many are still in the active development stage. Fans had assumed that these games would be next-gen exclusives, available only on Sony’s new console and the Xbox Series X. This, however, is not the case, as Sony has revealed that they aren’t making the full switch to the PS5 yet and most of the newly released games will still be playable on the PS4 as well as the PS5, with support for the older system extending up to four years in the future.
This move makes sense in terms of business strategy and benefits gamers worldwide. The PS4 is the fourth best selling console of all time, after all, so should fans not take...

Giancarlo Esposito can arguably be called the king of peak TV, playing a key role in some of the most critically acclaimed TV of this era. Just this past year, he appeared in Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian,” Netflix’s “Dear White People,” Cinemax’s “Jett,” Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys,” Epix’s “Godfather of Harlem” and, of course, AMC’s “Better Call Saul.” In the latter, the extremely well-rounded actor continues to revisit his iconic “Breaking Bad” character, Gus Fring, who this season methodically recruited Mike (Jonathan Banks) to be his henchman by demonstrating a sort of elegance that his rivals, the Salamancas, lack.
Esposito: Gus knows a lot about Mike. And he knows that Mike, probably out of all of the characters in our show, could be closest to himself. What Gus sees in him is incredible potential and incredible loyalty. Mike is a lone wolf but so is Gus.

TV academy voters are faced with a daunting task when they fill out their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballot, They have to consider 199 shows for Best Drama Series, which is 35 more than last year. At least they no longer have to winnow their choices down to just 10 favorites. As with last year, they are being told to “Vote for as many achievements in this category that you have seen and feel are worthy of a nomination.”
This year’s Emmys are guaranteed to have a new winner for Best Drama Series with reigning four-time champ “Game of Thrones” no longer on the air. Of its unlucky seven rivals last year, six of them –“Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark,” “Pose,” “Succession” and “This Is Us” — are back on the ballot. The seventh, “Bodyguard,” did not air any new episodes during the eligibility period from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020.

Carla Gugino has seen the headlines, too: femme fatale, screen siren, bombshell. “I don’t really relate to that much,” she says, on a recent morning at a Manhattan cafe. “Maybe an emotional bombshell.”

Cinemax will no longer produce original content, nor will its existing shows like “Jett” and “Warrior” be part of HBO Max when it launches, WarnerMedia executives said Wednesday.
“I think you can expect there will not be any more Cinemax originals being produced going forward,” HBO Max boss Kevin Reilly said during the Television Critics Association press tour. Michael Quigley, executive vice president of content acquisitions for the streaming service, said that Cinemax original content will not be the on service either, though the channel is not going away the same way Audience Network will.
“We’re not planning to bring the Cinemax content into the service overall,” he said. “I think it still serves an important value for its customers in terms of its movie offerings.”

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.
This week’s question: If you could pick one show – old or current – that you could champion/discuss more, but haven’t for whatever reason, what would it be? Why?
Ben Travers (@BenTTravers), IndieWire
Tuesday’s Emmy nominations make the answer much simpler than I would’ve hoped: “Better Things.” Pamela Adlon’s excellent FX comedy is made with such a potent combination of artistry and heart. Each piece is carefully crafted, from Adlon’s sweeping direction to the intimate vignette storytelling to the sparkling soundtrack to each individual performance and more. There are so many layers here, sliding in so smoothly one on top of the other, you don’t realize just how rich the personalities, story arcs, and overall experience is until you spend time with the series. While never a ratings juggernaut,...
