The nominations for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on Wednesday, totaling more than 300 nominees from some of the year’s most talked-about series, films and TV programming.
“The GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community. Today, this mission holds true and ever-more important as attacks against LGBTQ people are not only growing, but finding new avenues,” GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement. “Whether it’s rampant misinformation or defamation of transgender people, LGBTQ youth, or the...

There have been some recent controversies for Disney+ recently, such as the cancelation of The Acolyte after only one season as well as the removal of a transgender storyline from the upcoming Pixar series Win or Lose. However, January also kicks off an exciting new year for the platform as fans will get some new MCU shows, such as Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The end of January even...

Pixar's Inside Out franchise continued to expand with the release of a new spinoff series entitled Dream Productions which arrived on Disney+ in late 2024. Set between the first and second Inside Out movies, Dream Productions centers on the corner of Riley's head that is responsible for producing all of her dreams. Modeled after a film studio, the titular production company faces the usual trials and tribulations of fast-paced schedules and razor-thin budgets all to help Riley get a good night's sleep and make sense of the world around her.
Much like Pixar's Monsters at Work series, Dream Productions explores another aspect of the Inside Out franchise, and expands upon a moment that was shown briefly in the first film. Inside Out 2's massive box office success has proven that the series is another bona fide Pixar blockbuster, but Dream Productions offered new storytelling possibilities without the grandeur of a theatrical release.

Disney and Pixar fleshed out the world of Inside Out in the so-called "inbetweenquel" series Dream Productions, but will the imaginative show score a season 2 renewal? Taking place between the events of the Inside Out movies, Dream Productions is set on the lot of Riley's personal dream factory. Like a Hollywood movie studio, the titular production house is tasked with creating all of Riley's dreams, and director Paula Persimmon (Paula Pell) is the brains behind the operation. However, when her higher-ups become unhappy with her work, she must create new dreams with the help of a young daydreamer.
Told across a four-episode season, the 90-minute tale is essentially another film in the Inside Out universe, and even features some guest appearances from the familiar emotions from the blockbuster movies. Like Monsters at Work, Dream Productions proves that Disney/Pixar's greatest strength is the imagination behind their movies' worlds, and though Dream Productions was conclusive,...

Dream Productions, Pixar’s latest foray into the realm of Disney+ original series’, is perhaps its most experimental work in that space to date. Rather than standalone shorts or a more straightforward long-form sequel like Cars On The Road or Monsters At Work, this new series opts to take the “dreams as a film set” concept, the basis for one of the most memorable sequences in the original Inside Out, and expand it into its own narrative.
Given my love of both Inside Out movies and my personal passion for creative work in general and filmmaking specifically, this angle immediately intrigued me. And while the end result did frequently leave me wanting more, I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless.

Netflix’s fifth and final original Christmas movie for 2024 is now streaming, and this one is animated. But you’re still going to recognize a whole lot of the cast.
Written and directed by Richard Curtis, who brought fans “Love, Actually,” the film centers on a group of people in a small town in the UK, getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Like “Love, Actually,” the story is told via vignettes, jumping around between different groups and pairings.
And as you meet those groups and pairings, you’re definitely going to recognize some of those voices. Here’s who we have.
Netflix/Getty Images Santa (Brian Cox)
The big man himself is voiced by Brian Cox, who you likely know from his time on “Succession,” or films including “X2: X-Men United,” “Troy,” “Red,” “Zodiac” and “Trick ‘r Treat,” among many others.

One might assume Disney's animated shows are strictly geared toward younger audiences, but there are several shows that adults can enjoy, too. The shows aren't meant solely for adults and are still tame, as Disney is likely aware younger audiences will still be tuning in. Recent animated Disney shows inspired by movies like Monsters at Work or reboots of older series such as DuckTales can be enjoyed by older audiences for their nostalgic elements, but they aren't necessarily trying to draw in adult viewers.
Animated Disney series aimed toward older audiences are a bit more serious and focus on telling a story that builds throughout a season, rather than simply trying to teach viewers important life lessons. Shows like Tron: Uprising and Star Wars: The Bad Batch are based on characters and stories from popular live-action franchises adult audiences are largely familiar with. Other shows such as Gargoyles and Gravity Falls...

I’ve watched the first episode of Pixar’s upcoming Disney+ Inside Out spin-off series Dream Productions, and I can’t believe how good it is.
Many might feel like a Disney+ spin-off for nearly any movie or project is a waste of time and effort. Pixar’s previous attempt, Monsters at Work, might be a good example—not only is it not well received, but it’s generally forgotten about across the board.
But it looks like Pixar has finally solved the puzzle because it is hard to imagine the same mistakes befalling Dream Productions.

This past May, the storied Pixar Animation Studios, owned by Disney, was hit with layoffs of about 14 percent of its staff. 175 staffers were let go, largely a result of industry contraction and cutbacks in spending on streaming.
One of the main casualties of those layoffs were the many TV projects Pixar initially had planned for Disney+. One that endured and will soon reach the screen is “Dream Productions,” a spinoff of “Inside Out.”
“I don’t know that we’re gonna do any more streaming after this because we took a lot of resources from the other things at Pixar,” Jones said at IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles on Saturday. He explained that even given Pixar’s scope, they can be stretched thin and need resources for the tentpole features, and “Dream Productions” often drew the short straw.

Before has earned a career-low Rotten Tomatoes score for star Billy Crystal. The actor, who is best known for his roles in comedies including When Harry Met Sally, Monsters, Inc., and City Slickers, stars in the Apple TV+ series as widower psychologist Eli, who discovers that he has a mysterious connection to his newest patient. The Before cast also includes Jacobi Jupe, Maria Dizzia, Ava Lalezarzadeh, Rosie Perez, Judith Light, Itzhak Perlman, and Miriam Shor.
Rotten Tomatoes has now tabulated a score for Before out of 12 different critics' reviews. While it could fluctuate as more reviews are added, at the time of writing, it is a firmly Rotten 33%. This marks the worst Rotten Tomatoes score for a project with Crystal in a major role since 2012, when he starred in both Parental Guidance (18%) and Small Apartments (30%). In general, it is his worst score since 2016's The Comedian (24%), in which he made a cameo as himself.

Mad Men has a reputation for being a masterpiece. Its good traits lie in several parts of its production, ranging from the excellent acting of every single cast member to the direction and even how accurate it manages to be when it comes to the time period it’s set in. However critically acclaimed this series is, there is no denying that some moments get quite bizarre.

The story details surrounding the canceled Monsters, Inc. 2 suggest that the Pixar movie would have been an absolute tearjerker. Serving as the fourth movie developed by Pixar, Monsters, Inc. debuted in November 2001 before earning over half a billion at the box office. The animated feature film was directed by Pete Docter and David Silverman and featured lead voice roles from John Goodman and Billy Crystal as two monster best friends who work at an energy-producing factory. Based on the success of the film, there were plans for a sequel that evolved into the 2013 prequel, Monsters University.
Monsters, Inc. followed Sulley (Goodman) and Mike (Crystal) as they worked at the titular company that obtained energy from scaring human children. While living in Monstropolis, the pair were led to believe that children were dangerous creatures. That belief changed when a little girl named "Boo" snuck into the monster world. In nearly a month Saturday Night Live (SNL) will be reaching 50 seasons. It's hard to believe that the time slot, filled with comedic performances by some of the best and most unforgettable performers and comedians, began way back in 1975.
There are so many actors and actresses who began their careers through SNL including Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, Chevy Chase, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, and Robert Downey Jr. Who knows which celebrities will grace our television screens and movie theaters next.
As we approach the new season, we wanted to compile a list of actors who we'd love to see host SNL. Some may have appeared before, whereas others have never stepped foot upon the legendary stage.
Let's begin!
1. Matt Smith House of the Dragon season 2
From Doctor Who to House of the Dragon and The Crown, Matt Smith might seem initially like an odd choice for this list.

The first-ever “Monsters, Inc.”-themed land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, part of the Walt Disney World complex outside of Orlando, Florida.
The announcement was made at D23. Billy Crystal, who starred in the original film and its prequel “Monsters University” (as well as the Disney+ series “Monsters at Work”) was on hand for the announcement. “Humans will be in Monstropolis. Did you clear that with Hr?” Crystal joked. Crystal then sang a version of “I Wouldn’t Have Nothing If I Didn’t Have You,” the song from “Monsters, Inc.” (The song garnered a standing ovation from the crowd.)
“In this new land, humans have been invited to Monstropolis. As part of this experience you’re going to tour the Laugh Factory,” Disney Experiences head Josh D’Amaro said.
As part of the land, we’re getting a “Monsters, Inc.” rollercoaster, the first suspended coaster in a Disney park.

The world of Inside Out is expanding.
An animated series titled Dream Productions is coming to Disney+ later this year, Pixar’s Pete Docter announced during D23’s Disney Entertainment Showcase.

Pixar also unveiled some footage to the audience, featuring Joy giving a tour of the studio and taking viewers through the process of how to make a dream. The environment is just as chaotic as you might imagine, as the emotions try to pull off Riley’s “next hit dream.”

For years many fans of Pixar films have become familiar with a particular voice in their movies. That voice is actor and comedian John Ratzenberger. While many growing up in the 1980s remember him as Cliff Calvin on the popular sitcom Cheers, children from the mid-1990s to the late 2010s have heard his voice in other places.
Starting in the 1995 animated film Toy Story as Hamm the piggy bank, the actor went on to appear in 23 films for the animation studio. He was P.T. Flea in A Bug’s Life, Yeti in Monsters Inc., The Underminer in The Incredibles, Mack the Truck in Cars, and many more. In essence he became the Stan Lee of Pixar.
However, in recent years, he has been noticeably absent. His last vocal appearance was in 2020’s Onward as Fennwick the Cyclops. There was apparently a cameo in 2020’s Soul, but it was more...

The once-booming metropolis known as New York City has, in recent years, devolved into a town of violence and crime. Random assaults take place almost daily as aggression seems to skyrocket. No matter who you are there’s always a chance of witnessing a crime.
Now well-known actor Steve Buscemi is the latest victim of these acts of aggression as the actor was attacked by a man unprovoked. The man punched the actor in the face and quickly fled the scene. Buscemi was rushed to a nearby hospital and is said to have suffered swelling to the left side of his face and left eye.
In a statement made by his publicist: “Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city. He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to him...

Aisha Tyler is singing the praises of the upcoming season of Criminal Minds: Evolution. In fact, she’s so confident in its quality, she even told TV Insider (while promoting her Disney+ series Monsters at Work), it’s the “best season of television we’ve ever made.” And yes, “that includes all 16 previous seasons” of the spinoff and its parent show Criminal Minds. Tyler said Season 17, premiering Thursday, June 16 on Paramount+ with its first two episodes of 10, is such a standout because, “It’s in the fact that we moved to streaming, and we’re able to be more authentic and more grounded and more gritty… And the show is longer, so we’re able to spend more time in the emotional moments and also in the horror moments. The episodes this season have been extraordinary.” Tyler returns to the director’s chair for Episode 7, “which is an absolute doozy,...

At the end of the 2001 movie “Monsters, Inc.,” the titular company decides to cut ties with tradition and do away with human children’s screams as a power source in favor of laughter. It was a fun tag that put a nice bow on Sulley’s character growth after meeting the human Boo. What the movie doesn’t show is whether the larger world of Monstropolis will be open to such a drastic change to their traditions and culture. That is at the heart of Disney+’s “Monsters at Work,” which, in its second season, brought workplace existentialism and the environmental revolution to the popular Pixar franchise — along with the surprise return of Steve Buscemi’s Randall Boggs. (More on that later.)
“The end of ‘Monsters, Inc.’ is great for the audience, but that doesn’t necessarily extend to the larger city and the larger world,” “Monsters at Work” showrunner Kevin Deters told IndieWire.

They don’t make kids programming like they used to. It used to be that nearly every animated kids title came with jokes for the adults to get and the kids to grow into, in addition to age-appropriate gags and life lessons for the younger viewers. Inside Out 2's trailer confirms John Ratzenberger is finally returning to Pixar after missing most of their recent movies. A Ratzenberger cameo was once considered Pixar's good luck charm. Ratzenberger's comeback hopefully means appearances in future Pixar movies like Toy Story 5.
Inside Out 2's trailer introduces all the new emotions Riley has to confront and also confirms Pixar is restoring an old tradition with the return of a certain character. After a long stretch where Pixar was focused on producing sequels to their biggest hits, in recent years they've largely focused on original projects. Some, such as 2020's Soul, were acclaimed upon arrival, while the likes of Elemental was considered a critical and commercial disappointment.

The Monsters, Inc. timeline is not straightforward due to the release order and settings of each installment, but it is possible to watch them in chronological order. Monsters University serves as a prequel and showcases the world of scarers and the curriculum at Monsters University, but it does not fully bridge the gap between the prequel and the original Monsters, Inc. movie.
