A very indepth documentary detailing the attempts of researcher Wei-Yeen Yap and her attempts to capture some footage of the elusive pgymy hippo. In fact it is such a rare beast that rather than taking the usual wildlife documentary tactic of featuring primarily footage of the "star" creature with little human intervention - this entirely revolves around Yap and her research team desperately attempting to locate and investigate a single individual of the species.
It's a double-edged sword narratively as academic research is a rather dry pursuit with relatively little reward but Yap is a charismatic figurehead and Harewood's earnest commentary leaves you feeling quite invested in the whole endeavour. Although the actual glimpses of the titular hippo are very slight and only in night vision from remote cameras - you see wholly and with what feels like very little artifice just how difficult a challenge it is to capture it. Additionally - points need to be given for not sugar-coating the reality of life on the region, or attempting to rob agency from the people that live there.
