‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Set a 71-Year-Old Woman on Fire in Record-Breaking Stunt
Yvette Ferguson
Death comes for us all, no matter the age.

Final Destination Bloodlines broke the world record for oldest person set on fire on camera, with 71-year-old stunt performer Yvette Ferguson coming out of retirement for the full-body burn.

“We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress,” Zach Lipovsky, who co-directs with Adam Stein, told EW. “That was the oldest person ever on fire, on camera.”

The film’s stunt team reached out to Guinness World Records to officially submit the feat for consideration, but they have not yet heard back.

Ferguson plays Mrs. Fuller, who’s immolated in film’s 1960s-set opening sequence. Iris, a young woman on a date at a restaurant atop a 400-foot-tall tower, has a deadly promotion in which the crowded building collapses.

"That was the oldest person ever on fire, on camera." Ferguson, a 71-year-old stunt performer and actor, came out of retirement to play Mrs. Fuller in the scene. While Bloodlines' stunt team has reached out to Guinness World Records to officially submit the extreme stunt for recognition, they have not yet heard back from the organization. ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Director Teases Premonition That Will Throw Fans “For a Loop”
Zach Lipovsky
If you want to go into Final Destination Bloodlines knowing as little as possible when it hits theaters on May 16, you may want to avoid reading any further.

In a new interview with SFX Magazine, Zach Lipovsky — who co-directs the sixth installment in the horror franchise with Adam Stein — teased a twist on the film’s opening premonition.

“For this film, the first premonition takes place in 1969,” Lipovsky revealed.

“There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a Final Destination movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day. That’s new. For a lot of fans, I think that’s going to immediately throw them for a loop. It’s going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what’s going on.”

He continued, “As moviegoers, we love...

The alternate-reality villainous Caped Crusader is seen in an all-black costume, different than his '80s and '90s film appearances, with a silver utility belt and Bat-symbol making the figure pop. 'Harley Quinn' Could Get Season 6 According to Showrunner
Image
Harley Quinnjust aired its Season 5 finale, and while there is no official announcement for Season 6, the series' showrunner has plans for the future. Harley Quinn's latest season of television shook up the formula by having Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) move to Metropolis in a very Superman-centric season that brought in characters like Lena Luthor, Lois Lane, and Brainiac. However, the season ended with Harley Quinn and Ivy back in their old Gotham City apartment from the beginning of the series, surrounded by their friends and family stronger than ever. The season's final moments don't tease a new threat but instead show Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy jumping out of their apartment to go out in Gotham City.

Following the finale, Harley Quinn showrunner Dean Lorey spoke with Collider about the open-ended finale for Season 5. While he hopes to see it continue, the finale ends on a positive note,...

Ethan Embry joins the cast of Scream 7
Image
Ethan Embry may only be 46 years old, but he has 35 years of acting credits to his name, having worked on more than 100 different projects. And now he’s set to cross paths with Ghostface, as Deadline reports that he has joined the cast of Scream 7!

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after.

‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Teaser Puts Death on the Hunt Again
Image
Death sets one unsuspecting tattoo artist’s business (and body) ablaze in the fiery, gruesome first teaser trailer for “Final Destination Bloodlines.”

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, whose previous credits include 2018’s “Freaks” and the live-action “Kim Possible” movie, the new film comes 14 years after “Final Destination 5” hit theaters in 2011. It’s based on a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick (“Scream IV”) and will follow a new assortment of characters as they try to cheat Death and escape the grisly, cartoonishly constructed ends that await them.

The film’s first trailer is a simple return to form for the “Final Destination” franchise. Across its succinct two minutes, the spot follows a tattooist (Richard Harmon) grieving his father’s recent passing who ends up caught literally in a quickly escalating trap set in motion by Death itself. The results are predictably brutal and horrifying.

Check out the teaser below.

Whoever they have in the High Potential writers’ room is certainly having a good time letting their imaginations run wild with these cases of the week.

“The Sauna at the End of the Stairs” was far more fun than it had any right to be.

Also, I’m not a true crime nut, but that’s the name of a murder documentary that I would absolutely watch.

As I’ve said before, many of the episodes, including this one, feel like they could be fleshed out into multiple parts.

Do you know what else has become a common occurrence on High Potential? Sleazy victims who kind of had it coming.

Seriously, what is with the majority of the victims being terrible people when they were alive?

Every Dceu Movie Canceled Because of James Gunn’s Dcu
Image
When Zack Snyder made Man of Steel with Henry Cavill, there were no plans of building a Dceu. However, DC executives were eager to catch up with Marvel, who were thriving with their superhero franchise. In their misguided vision for a DC franchise, the studio tried many things unsuccessfully before opting for a complete restructuring under James Gunn.

The Dceu already underwent several course corrections before the restructuring, resulting in a bunch of canceled or abandoned projects. After the new regime took over control, all planned films in the former Dceu were effectively canceled.

DC characters we want to see in a potential Injustice 3
Image
There are many things that DC Comics fans are longing for, but a third Injustice video game is definitely on that list. It's something we've been discussing since completing Injustice 2 and, with that having come out in 2017, it's been some time indeed.

With that in mind, let's do some more theorizing, this time about which characters could appear in Injustice 3 if it happens. To be honest, there are so many DC characters that haven't been used in the Injustice games that it would be impossible to list them all, so let's look at some of the ones that I want to see the most and the ones that fans have been clamoring over for years.

Magical characters

Let's begin by talking about the magical characters of the DC Universe, because most of them haven't received much attention in these games. While characters like Swamp Thing and Shazam were playable characters in the previous games,...

Stargirl’s Brec Bassinger on Starring in a Dark True Crime Movie
Image
Before she starred in movies, Brec Bassinger first made a splash as the cheerleader-turned-football player Bella Dawson of Bella and the Bulldogs on Nickelodeon, and later won over audiences as the eponymous hero of the tragically canceled CW hit Stargirl. This time, Bressinger takes a leading role in the dramatized true-crime horror-thriller, The Man In the White Van, directed by Warren Skeels and also starring Madison Wolfe, Sean Astin and Ali Larter. During the 1970s in rural Florida, the most that teenage sisters Annie (Wolfe) and Magaret (Bassinger) have to worry about are their prospective love interests, not angering their traditional parents, and butting heads over the younger Annie's brazen, hot-blooded tomboyishness and Margaret's desire to be prim, ladylike and socially acceptable.

But when a mysterious and ominous white van begins to appear around their home, stalking Annie, both sisters are forced to set aside their differences to save each other's lives.

Before Superman & Lois, Another Underrated DC Hero Explored the Man of Steel's Best Concept
Image
Quick Links How Jefferson Pierce and Clark Kent Aren't the Same Kind of Fathers How Both Series Handled the Next Generation of Superpowers How Lynn Stewart and Lois Lane Approached Being a Superhero Partner

The following contains spoilers from Superman & Lois Season 4, now streaming on The CW App.

One reason fans loved Superman & Lois is because it was the first time Clark Kent and Lois Lane were parents in live-action. While it came with all the super-heroics fans expect from the Man of Steel, the show was more about balancing those struggles with the trials of raising a family. However, Superman & Lois wasn't the first DC series to tell that kind of story, because The CW's Black Lightning did it first, with an extra layer of social commentary.

The finale of Superman & Lois didn't just end the series, but it also brought a two-decade run of DC television to a close.

After eight episodes of twists and turns, the whole truth finally comes into focus in No Good Deed‘s finale — but where can the dark comedy go from here?

Throughout the season, viewers had pieced together that Jacob’s sister Emily (played by Generation’s Chloe East) had shot and killed her brother after mistaking him for a burglar. In Episode 8, however, Lydia (Friends’ Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano) learn new details about their son’s death.

‘The Man in the White Van’ Review
Image
Stars: Madison Wolfe, Brec Bassinger, Gavin Warren, Ali Larter, Sean Astin, Tom Gillen, Skai Jackson, Noah Lomax | Written by Warren Skeels, Sharon Y. Cobb | Directed by Warren Skeels

Based in part on the real-life crimes of Billy Mansfield Jr., The Man in the White Van is a 1970s set thriller from director Warren Skeels and co-writer Sharon Y. Cobb. It opens with a prologue set in 1970 showing the killer at work before jumping ahead to 1975 where Annie is riding her horse while Edgar Winter’s “Free Ride” plays on the soundtrack.

Annie is the middle child, with an older sister, Margaret who is about to be presented at the Debutant’s Ball, and a gun-obsessed younger brother Daniel.

Her parents Hellen and William wish she was more like Margaret rather than a tomboy who’s more interested in riding horses than being proper or caring if her legs are properly shaved.

1 of Smallville's Best Characters Nearly Had a Prequel Series

Quick Links What Would a Lois Lane Spin-Off of Smallville Have Looked Like? Other Smallville Spin-Offs Were Also Considered By The CW Why Was The Development of Smallville's Lois Lane Spin-Off Canceled?

The CW's long run with DC media has sadly come to an end with the recent conclusion of Superman and Lois. Considering that it all began with the premiere of the Superman origin series, Smallville, back in 2001, it couldn't have been any more fitting for the network to end it all with the Man of Steel. For over two decades, Smallville has been rightfully hailed as one of the best and most influential DC shows ever. Many of its fans may not be aware, however, that the show's creators, Alfred Gough and Marc Millar, initially conceived the series as a completely different origin story for a different character. Most people probably wouldn't have ever expected a series...

10 Superhero TV Shows to Binge Now That Superman & Lois Is Over
Image
With the series finale of Superman & Lois fans of DC Comics' and Superhero storytelling may need a new show to tide them over. Luckily, in this new Golden Age for comic book adaptations, there are plenty of options for viewers to choose from, including more than one featuring the Man of Steel. The finale of Superman & Lois didn't just end that series, but it also brought the most impressive run of DC Comics' TV adaptations to an end.

For nearly 20 years (and more counting The WB years), The CW was home to a number of bingeable series. Perhaps the most prominent ones are those in the Arrowverse -- a suite of shows with shared continuity that first introduced Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. However, these series are worth it on their own, as they each adopted different styles and tones, from dark to openly silly.

‘Superman And Lois’ Season 4 Ending Explained & Series Finale: Is Clark Kent Dead?
Image
I remember how, during the pandemic years, Stargirl and Superman And Lois, two shimmering rays of light, helped a lot of viewers like me to persevere and cling to hope through tough times. Aside from having a common ground in exploring the human connection in superhero fiction with as much warmth and care as you’d expect, these two series had a unique, reassuring effect that I can’t quite put into words. Stargirl ended a couple of years ago, leaving Superman And Lois to shoulder the duty of providing the emotional comfort we needed—and the day the countdown to the end of this series began as well; we all knew how excruciatingly painful the ordeal would be. But I don’t think anyone was ready for the emotional gut punch the series finale would deliver, which made viewers literally bawl their eyes out in grief. The series marks...

James Gunn's Dcu Still Has Plenty to Learn From This 12-Year-Old Shared Universe
Image
Quick Links Unlike the Dceu, the Arrowverse Took Time to Build Up Its World The Dcu Must Look to the Arrowverse to Make Its Universe Feel Shared The Greatest Asset the Arrowverse Had Was Character Relationships The Arrowverse Didn't Have a True Finale, but It Was Satisfying

Creature Commandos will soon officially kick off the new DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The animated series will be the first project that is fully "canon" to the Dcu. Despite this, even Gunn himself says his universe doesn't truly begin until the debut of Superman in July 2025. Beyond that a bevy of films, series and other projects chart the path forward. However, James Gunn and his collaborators should look to a previous DC Comics' shared universe for guidance: The Arrowverse suite of shows that aired on The CW between 2012 and 2023.

Gunn openly criticized the strategy (or lack thereof) employed...

The character of Daredevil has remained a fan-favorite amongst both hardcore and casual fans alike, with many touting him as one of the best characters in Marvel Comics canon.

That's right! Come with me to learn about a somewhat lesser-known but equally awesome character named Doctor Mid-Nite

Doctor Mid-Nite's game-changing origins, explained

There have been a few characters who took on the mantle of Doctor Mid-Nite over the years, but let's discuss the origins of the original Doctor Mid-Nite, who first appeared in All American Comics No.

10 Best Live-Action DC Shows, Ranked
Image
DC has produced many high-quality TV shows over the years, with key aspects that make many stand out, and the best of them offer variety for those looking for live-action DC series. While Marvel Studios has been dominating the movie landscape since the MCU started, DC has the upper hand on TV. After all, the Arrowverse's series soared when the Dceu faltered, showing how a shared universe on TV can work.

Recently, director Matt Reeves and his The Batman universe proved once again that is something DC should look into, as The Penguin perfectly expanded upon Robert Pattinson's Batman movie. James Gunn's DC Universe is well aware of the potential that live-action series have. The Dcu already has many announced shows in different stages of development, with Peacemaker season 2 being the franchise's first live-action series to debut, set for a 2025 release. ‘Megalopolis’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in Francis Ford Coppola’s Fable?
Image
Francis Ford Coppola’s next epic is here, and he’s amassed a pretty huge cast to bring it to life. And odds are, you’re going to recognize quite a few of those faces.

Now in theaters, “Megalopolis” is a modern retelling of the Roman Empire, starring Adam Driver as the man who’s trying to build it. Cesar Catalina (Driver) has a vision for a utopia built with a brand new element that he discovered and won a Nobel prize for. But not everyone wants to see him succeed in doing so.

It’s a pretty thick plot, so we won’t pick that apart here. For now, we’re just going to help you place some of those faces on screen.

Here are all the major players in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.”

Allow Grace VanderWaal to Reintroduce Herself
Image
Grace VanderWaal won over the country’s hearts as a ukulele-wielding 12-year-old on America’s Got Talent. Now, a 20-year-old singer and actress, VanderWaal is preparing for a new album, having released two singles in the last two months, and acting in the upcoming Francis Ford Coppola film Megalopolis.

Just a day before the film is set to hit theaters, VanderWaal spoke with The Hollywood Reporter over Zoom about her experience working on the film, how she has musically evolved and what she’s passionate about these days.

Having made her acting debut in Disney’s Stargirl, the 20-year-old isn’t ruling out more projects in the future but seems to be focusing on her next album. VanderWaal, who spent most of her formative years in the public eye, says her next album is “heavy” but an accurate look at what she’s going through at the moment.

4 TV shows sadly in danger of cancellation
Image
The past year has been an interesting one for television. Plenty of TV shows have come and gone, airing just one season in that space of time before being unjustly cut short (Dead Boy Detectives). Others have announced that their long runs would be coming to something of a premature end due to issues outside of their control (911: Lone Star bowing out after just five seasons).

Elsewhere, major movie studios have made their presence felt on TV once again, with Marvel Studios offering up new installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of miniseries Echo and Agatha All Along (along with Marvel Animation's X-Men '97) and Lucasfilm introducing audiences to a new Star Wars story in The Acolyte (and the upcoming Skeleton Crew). Unfortunately, not even the Star Wars franchise is safe from the cancellation ax asThe Acolyte was cancelled after one season, too.

Grace VanderWaal Grows Up: With New Music and ‘Megalopolis’ Role, the ‘America’s Got Talent’ Winner Is Coming Into Her Own — Even if It Makes ‘People Really Uncomfortable’
Image
Eight years after Grace VanderWaal won “America’s Got Talent,” people still see her as the bashful 12-year-old girl from Kansas who floored everyone with her ukulele-playing and contemplative songs.

“I had the weirdest experience recently,” VanderWaal, now 20, tells Variety over Zoom from L.A., the blunt bangs of her tween years replaced by a sleek platinum bob. She recounts how, on a night out with friends, she crossed paths with a woman coming out of the bathroom.

“She was like, ‘You’re a woman! You’re a grown-up!’” VanderWaal says, mimicking the tipsy fan’s shock. “I was like literally gentle-parenting her through this, but she wouldn’t get over it. She couldn’t handle it.”

Lately, VanderWaal has been running into that kind of reaction — fans who can’t stop seeing her as a symbol of the purity and innocence of youth — a lot, even though she’s long...
