    Warning: Spoilers
"Blush" (a.k.a., "Imaginary Order") showcased some snappy dialogue and creative situations in the life of the protagonist Cathy, who may be best described as a desperate housewife.

It is a constant struggle for Cathy to interface with her daughter Tara and her husband Matthew. The scenes early in the film had crackling humor as Cathy seeks to extricate herself from a variety of predicaments. Everything seems to go wrong in her basic human interactions.

When she housesits for her sister, her main task is to care for the cat, and the cat dies. She then becomes engaged in a bizarre relationship with the sister's neighbor, Gemma Jean. Then, an even more reckless relationship begins between Cathy and Gemma Jean's son Xander. Before she realizes it, Cathy has become a pill-popping version of Mrs. Robinson.

Just when the style seemed to be heading into pure farce, the tone shifted, and the film began to take itself too seriously. In the home stretch, Cathy tries to piece her life back together with only marginal success.

There might have been a more uplifting sense to "Blush" if Cathy could have lightened up about the foibles in her life. Instead, she turned inward with few results other than falling into a narcissism that merited pity more than the empathy.

Cathy (Wendi McLendon-Covey ) has a very orderly life as a compulsive person. When she cat sits for her sister, she meets the new neighbors and her whole world goes to pieces. The drama and tension become thick.

I didn't like any of the characters. The plot dragged whenever Xander was in it. There were far too many scenes of moody teens who say "nothing" or take long pauses of silence. Okay, we get the picture. Teens are not entertaining.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
  • I like that actress Wendi McLendon-Covey but this movie was way to long...like Wendis last name. I suffered through this movie telling myself it's gonna have a great twist and fantastic ending. But alas, there was no payoff. The folks who gave this a ten are liars and just want to see you waste your time and money renting this thing like they did.
  • This was uncomfortably funny at so many moments when you could see each character wrestle with their fears and insecurities. The way the middle age adults assess what they have done with their lives. The way the teenaged girl feels so alone and isolated from her parents, even as they try harder to keep their desperate grasp on her. The actual storyline is a bit cooky, but in the end this was about what we have and what we yearn for. This is heavy stuff, wrapped in a thin but tough layer of comedy.
  • Being male, with loads of years on my spine, this was actually a film that i understood from a female standpoint. its a picture of a womans life, with her daughter, husband, sister, a cat, loads of other hot spot females, a teenage boy, his ravaging crazy mother and the father that becomes the main caracters sex buddy. well hormones may be confusing for teenagers, have a look at this flick and youll for sure find out that its a whole soup of renderingly crazy hormones in the 40's too.

i liked this film because its honest in a humble way, its funny enough to make me giggle, uncomfy it is too. the main actress does a great job, and makes the whole story believale and interesting. if you expect lots of sexual then youre in a cul de sac.

the grumpy old man do really appreciate films with a nice score, and the humming in the background makes it even better, a bit abrubt pianish in the start but its very balanced when it comes to terms. even though its not a blockbuster movie some of you will find it amusing and a fullfilment in a stressy everydaylife, so let the hormones fly...or cry. its a recommend
  • Hi all - I just watched this movie and really liked it. Each character is very developed and interesting. McLendon-Covey is compelling and very relatable. I'm curious if anyone else noticed similarities to American Beauty? It's almost as if this story is the American Beauty storyline told from a totally different (but equally as interesting) perspective.
  • If you're in the mood for a funny and poignant examination of a whole slew of uncomfortable moments for Moms and their feelings about several different crucial areas of middle class parenting then this would be for you. Gets pretty trippy and equivalently hilarious at moments. The examination of addiction is especially worthwhile.
  • This film is a story, not more not less. A story like you might see people living through in a world of complacency and normalised relationships. and then the story, as most do, changes and we are thrust into a world of interesting relationships and twisted fantasy. If you like film you'll like this, if you prefer movies then go see spiderman. Enjoy

A script with a little nuance for a change. It's not a perfect movie, but it feels authentic in places and has a sense of humor.

Intriguing and funny drama about life, about facades, and how things can and do unravel despite our best efforts to keep everything under control. Excellent performance by the lead actress. Very, very good film. The low ratings are baffling, I really wonder what it would take to please most of these reviewers. They probably think Citizen Kane is garbage. Ignore the bad reviews, give this one a try, it's a couple of hours well spent.

Blush is one exhausting film to watch. There's enough material crammed in here to make a whole mini series. Sometimes it felt like I was stuck on an out-of-control spinning fairground ride, unsure what direction I was heading but enjoying myself despite the occasional bout of nauseous dizziness.

The film jumps from one idiosyncratic character to the next, and we barely have enough time to process one scene before the next one begins. This doesn't exactly help with getting to know them, but it does mean you'll never get bored anticipating what random craziness will unfurl next.

So if dysfunctional relationships, midlife crises and obnoxious teenagers are your kinda jam, you could do a lot worse than to check out this oddball indie drama. For once though, it would be nice to watch a film featuring a cute cat where it doesn't end up on it's last life by the end.

By my own personally cat-alogued statistics, felines die in 70% of the movies they feature in, whereas dogs survive in 0.05 in their pictures. This is blatant canine favouritism, and I demand a full and thorough enquiry right now.

You think I'm joking? Well I'm not. Get it done! 6/10.
  • Interesting, fun, suspenseful, odd, and quirky adventures of an average middle aged housewife dealing with the doldrum of her suburban middle class life. Not usually something I would watch but it almost felt like a documentary. Give it a shot.
  • This film was like a breath of fresh air. Reminded me of Cassavetes... the performances are subtle. I was really into this drama, horror, comedy in a visceral way. Smart and thoughtful script.
  • We all know how crazy life can be, and this film shows it in spades. Wonderfully acted and very well produced and directed. It was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad I watched it despite its low IMDb rating. It deserves a much better rating and a much wider audience. Wendi McLendon-Covey just nailed it in the lead. Worth your time.

This movie was way better than I expected. Great acting and storyline. It's funny. Way underrated. You will not be disappointed. Two thumbs up. 5 stars.
  • This movie is a strange and wonderful ride. The acting is superb and the story is just twisted enough...

This film is funny, dark, sad, honest, and twisted in the best possible way. Great performances all around and a really compelling story. Wonderful to see Wendi McClendon-Covey stretch herself in this lead role. Highly recommend this one - watch for it!
  • I saw this up at Sundance and loved it! It's funny because it's true and that's the best kind of film. It's also haunting and creepy because Debra Eisenstadt is exploring the raw, secret part in all of us.
  • I really enjoyed this movie a LOT!!! Great acting!!!!
  • Wendy MC is it surprisingly good dramatic actress! Eclectic indie type movie if you're into that kind.

The story of the unraveling of Wendy's life from a housewife with a rocky marriage and moody teenage girl.
  • The film is unusual and very interesting and great performance of all the cast members but I like the young actress, Kate! Thumbs up!
  • Debra Eisenstadt is back with another twisted, original, hilarious thriller, this one following an unraveling suburban mom. Honestly, this film could be advertised as a horror movie so terrifying is this character's slide into the dark. In the end, you find yourself rooting hard for the kids who are hard at work trying to navigate adult messes everywhere. This is especially true because of the incredible performances of Kate Alberts and Max Burkholder. Imaginary Order is a smart, fun, scary film. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Debra Eisenstadt's fourth film is as bold and fascinating as her first three. A compelling look into a deeply troubled group of characters. A shocking screenplay, also by Eisenstadt, is surprising at every turn. She coaxes fantastic and nuanced performances from the entire cast, especially from Graham Sibley and Christine Woods. Not for the faint of heart.
