We finally have our first look at Amazon Prime Video's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" reboot. On Sept. 14, Prime Video shared the first image from the series, which stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The streamer also announced that the show, based on the film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, will premiere in 2024.
Way back in February 2021, Glover announced he was teaming up with Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the series, but that September, Variety reported that the "Fleabag" star had exited the series. Glover revealed that Erskine would be joining him on the show in an April 2022 piece for Interview magazine.
Glover (who was interviewing himself) asked, "What happened with Phoebe Waller-Bridge? She was supposed to be on 'Smith,' right?" To which he replied, "Yeah. But classic creative differences." He then confirmed that the new Mrs. Smith is Erskine, who's known for starring in and co-creating Hulu's "PEN15." "She's dope,...

“I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but It didn’t work out,” the singer joked on stage at Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino, alongside Paramount Animation head Ramsey Naito. It was revealed that Rihanna will star, write and record original songs, and produce the upcoming project. First, Rihanna dominated the music industry, with hits like “Umbrella,” “Rude Boy,” and “Diamonds.” But, the industry icon, who’s headed back to the stage with her highly-anticipated Super Bowl performance, does a lot more. Next, she became a business mogul and a successful actor. Over the years, Rihanna has acted in a wide variety of movies and TV shows. Interestingly enough, she was considered for a role in one highly-publicized movie that crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

This article contains spoilers for Atlanta season 3 episode 1.
Fans have waited a long time for Atlanta season 3. The FX comedy (among other genres) created by and starring Donald Glover last aired on May 10, 2018. After that, Glover got busy with his multi-hyphenate career – winning a Grammy as his musical alter ego Childish Gambino, starring as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and even directing his own feature film, Guava Island.
By the time Glover and the rest of the Atlanta crew were ready to reconvene, the global Covid-19 pandemic delayed ever further. But the gang eventually got back to work and now the long-awaited Atlanta season 3 has finally premiered with two episodes airing on FX on March 24. Imagine viewers’ surprise, however, when the opening scene of the first episode doesn’t feature main characters Earn Marks (Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), Van (Zazie Beetz), or really any other recognizable characters.

“Atlanta” did about as much in its first two seasons as a TV show can do. It managed to weave together the stories of a group of people all trying to find their way in their careers, friendships, and the future. And yes, the show also fit in some alligators, Bieber, and fake cable networks along the way.
Now after acclaim, some immense storytelling freedom, and a four-year (!) hiatus, “Atlanta” Season 3 has arrived. Ahead of its March 24 release date, here’s a quick refresher on what there is to know about where the show left off, what might be ahead, and how close it is to its own ending.
1. Wasn’t This Season Supposed to Be Here Sooner?

Ellen DeGeneres is executive producing the special, which reunites the two after working together on both Netflix specials “Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here” in 2018 and “Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable,” which Notaro co-directed.

Buckle up: Fleabag and Childish Gambino are prepping a new project.
Friday afternoon, “Atlanta” star Donald Glover dropped a video on his Instagram, wherein he starts to dance to Paul Anka’s “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, of “Fleabag” fame, looks unimpressed. As she gets up to do a seductive dance of her own, the reveal is that the two will be teaming up for a property titled “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
Little more is known about the project, short of the stars, participation from Amazon Studios and New Regency, and that it’s co-created by Francesca Sloane, a producer on the FX series “Fargo” and writer on Hulu’s short-lived space drama, “The First.”
Update:
Amazon confirmed the series announcement in a press release, providing further details on the future production and initial conception of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” the TV show.

It’s officially going to be a year before FX delivers more episodes of Donald Glover’s “Atlanta.”
During the cabler’s Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Thursday, John Landgraf, chairman, FX Networks and FX Prods., announced that the next two installments of the Emmy-winning comedy series would not be ready until 2021.
Calling Seasons 3 and 4 “Part 1 and 2” of a new chapter in the series’ life, Landgraf said that the first 10 episodes should return in January 2021, with the next batch, which as of now will consist of eight episodes, following in the fall of that year.
These 18 episodes will be shot in sequence, with some of filming taking place in the titular city, but much of it also “shooting outside the U.S.,” he noted.
Season 2 of “Atlanta” aired on FX between March and May 2018. Part of the reason for the long wait between seasons is simply how busy Glover has become.

The highly-anticipated “Veronica Mars” revival season was supposed to premiere on July 26. But Hulu made a bold move and dropped all episodes one week early on July 19, revealing the news at the show’s Comic-Con panel the very minute the show was released. While the early drop created buzz in the moment, the move resulted in backlash from fans and media professionals.
The surprise drop is a unique aspect of the streaming age, one replicated from the music industry. A surprise album drop from Beyoncé, however, does not hold the same narrative responsibilities as an episode of television does. One cannot be spoiled on a plot point in music, but care must be taken when the model is utilized for TV. Hulu didn’t understand the reasoning behind why a surprise release can work, and therefore made all the wrong decisions to ensure the opposite outcome with “Veronica Mars.”

When Donald Glover announced back in April that he was releasing an hour-long music video starring Rihanna and Letitia Wright, the internet pretty much lost its mind. “Guava Island” premiered at Coachella before streaming on Amazon Prime two days later, and throngs of Glover superfans fell in love with what the multi-hyphenate called “one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on.” Amazon has just released five new behind the scenes videos introducing some of the talented dancers, musicians, and actors that helped make “Guava Island” so special.

In the five years since it was published, Emily St. John Mandel’s “Station Eleven” has been one of the top “Why isn’t this a movie or show yet?” books around. Now, “Station Eleven” is part of a pair of new additions to the ever-expanding WarnerMedia streaming service content landscape.
To sweeten the deal, this adaptation of the 2014 post-apocalyptic novel has slated Hiro Murai as a director. It would be Murai’s first pilot since “Atlanta,” which coupled with the director’s extensive music video work, made him a sought-after filmmaker across TV. Murai has since directed episodes of “Barry,” “Snowfall,” and “Legion,” in addition to the Donald Glover-starring surprise Amazon release “Guava Island” earlier this year.

“Maniac” creator Patrick Somerville has signed on to helm two new series, “Made for Love” and “Station Eleven,” for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service.
“Made for Love,” which will be executive produced and directed by S.J. Clarkson, is a 10-episode, straight-to-series adaptation based on the novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting. Nutting, Liza Chasin and Dean Bakopoulos will also executive produce. WarnerMedia Entertainment will co-produce with Paramount TV.
The half-hour comedy follows Hazel Green, a 30-something woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to an unstable tech billionaire. Soon she discovers that her husband has already implanted a revolutionary monitoring device — the Made for Love — in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her, and know her thoughts and feelings as she tries to stay alive.
“Station Eleven” will be directed by frequent “Atlanta” and “Barry” director Hiro Murai, who will also serve as an executive producer.

TV Academy favorite Donald Glover will not be a 2019 Emmys contender, after all.
Glover's acclaimed FX show Atlanta, for which he won best directing for a comedy series and best actor in a comedy series Emmys in 2017, was not on the air over the past year, but a side project of his, Guava Island, was — specifically, on Amazon Prime — and was widely expected to be a top contender in a host of Emmy categories. However, contrary to reports previously published by other outlets, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Guava Island will not even be submitted for voter consideration.

Childish Gambino is about to die.
It’s still unclear what, exactly, that means. The next Childish Gambino album, which has been repeatedly teased as the project’s last gasp, could simply be the death of a moniker; it could mean the end of Donald Glover’s music career entirely. Fam Udeorji, Gambino’s longtime manager, is absurdly calm about this, and won’t let on what any of it means.
“I don’t know if you want to hype a death up,” he says. “It’s more so this chapter is over.

The National were supposed to take a break. They sure as hell deserved one. After 20 years of tirelessly burnishing their reputation as the country’s most consistent rock band — after selling almost 1 million records, becoming President Obama’s de facto campaign soundtrack, and laying down the definitive rendition of “The Rains of Castamere” along the way — a little time off sounded like a good idea. The National had just released “Sleep Well Beast,” their emotionally fraught seventh album, and this traveling circus of middle-aged dads was just one quick massive world tour away from the breather they’d been chasing for so long. “Let’s just survive this” is how lead singer Matt Berninger sums up the group’s shared attitude at the time.
And then, on September 3, 2017, filmmaker Mike Mills sent Berninger the email that changed everything.
“I’d just finished the press stuff for ‘20th Century Women,’ and...

In Guava Island, a musician (Donald Glover) incurs the wrath of a tropical despot when his plans for a celebratory music festival threaten to shutter the fictional isle’s silk factory for a day. The film, which runs 55 minutes with musical interludes from Glover’s alter ego Childish Gambino, features many of the talents behind the FX show Atlanta. That includes Emmy winning cinematographer Christian Sprenger, who spoke to Filmmaker about working on location in Cuba and his magic formula for making the Alexa Lf look like 16mm film.
