With hits from ‘The Simpsons’ to ‘Solar Opposites,’ Hulu has quietly built the strongest animated lineup on streaming.
Animated comedies are my comfort food. When life’s chaotic, there’s nothing better than sinking into the couch and putting on an episode of “The Simpsons.” That show has literally been around as long as I have, and it’s still going strong. Then came “Family Guy” about a decade later, and even though the tone is way different, it quickly earned a spot on my go-to list. Between those two, you’ve basically got the blueprint for modern animated comedy. And the best part? They’re both streaming on Hulu, along with a ridiculous number of other hits from FX and Fox. If animated sitcoms are your thing, there’s really no better place to stream. Here’s why Hulu’s the best of the bunch for streaming animated comedy TV shows.

NBC's comedic drama "Good Girls" may have been all about women criminals breaking bad, but according to TVLine, the series' cancellation in 2021 didn't have much to do with the "girls" that give the show its title.
Soon after "Good Girls" was officially canceled in 2021, TVLine reported a surprising and slightly scandalous scoop about the show's fate. The series debuted in 2018 and follows the exploits of three Midwestern moms who fall into a life of crime after an impulsive supermarket heist leads to unlikely repercussions. "Parks and Recreation" actress Retta headlined the show along with "Mad Men" fan favorite Christina Hendricks and "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "Arrested Development" actress Mae Whitman. The show also made a star out of Manny Montana, who played sexy crime boss Rio and quickly became a series breakout. According to the outlet's sources, it was Montana who tied up the series' future after negotiations...

We might only be three months into the new year, but 2025 is quickly shaping up to be quite an interesting year for TV fans. The first few months of the year have brought about a lot of unexpected cancellations and renewals for broadcast, cable, and streaming originals with many long-running shows receiving their walking papers and yet another series has now joined that list.
In a somewhat unexpected announcement, Hulu has revealed that the forthcoming sixth season of its hit animated comedy Solar Opposites will be the show’s final season. That’s right, the sun is about to set on the beloved adult animation series which will return for its final episodes this fall on Hulu.
At this time, no premiere date has been set for when the final season will arrive and it remains unclear why exactly Hulu has chosen to bring the show to an end after six seasons.

The aliens of Solar Opposites are set for their last mission.
Hulu announced Tuesday that the forthcoming sixth season of Solar Opposites will be its last. The final episodes of the animated series are scheduled to premiere in the fall, with a specific date to be announced later.
The show has also lined up a guest cast for the final season that includes Tiffany Haddish, Kieran Culkin, Christina Hendricks, Ken Marino, Alfred Molina, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Beck Bennett. They join regulars Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack and Sean Giambrone.
Stevens joined Solar Opposites in season four, when he took over the voice role of Korvo from series co-creator Justin Roiland, who was ousted from the show in the wake of domestic violence allegations. Charges were later dismissed due to “insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” the Orange County, California, district attorney’s office said.

A specific premiere date will be announced later this year.
“When the Solar Opposites family goes broke, they must learn to survive on Earth without any of their sci-fi devices or the massive amounts of video games, snacks and luxury watches they’re used to,” the logline for Season 6 states.

Whether it is becoming the publisher and CEO of Bunny Ears or ruling our hearts with incredible work in Succession, both the brothers have had something or the other going for them.

With an amazing history of comedy and voice performance, Mythic Quest knocked it out of the park, casting Charlotte Nicdao and David Hornsby. Nicdao burst onto the scene with Australian comedies, soon finding herself in front of the camera in massive films like Thor: Ragnarok. She’s also graced Star Trek: Lower Decks, Bluey, and Solar Opposites with her vocal talents. Hornsby famously deteriorated in front of our very eyes as the (fairly) iconic Rickety Cricket on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia but has happily made a nest for himself in some great Cartoon Network shows like We Bare Bears and Ben 10. Now, both co-star in the AppleTV+ series and serve as a writer and director.

Other features that won multiple awards from the International Animated Film Society Asifa-Hollywood, which presents the prizes recognizing the year’s best in animation, include two-time winners Flow and Orion and the Dark, with the former winning best feature — independent and best writing — feature.
Flow, which won the Golden Globe for best animated motion picture, and The Wild Robot are both nominated for the Oscar for best animated feature, along with Inside Out 2, Memoir of a Snail and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

Hulu's off-beat animated sitcom Solar Opposites has brought the laughs throughout its first five seasons thus far, and the streamer has already renewed for season 6. Debuting in 2020, the series follows Korvo and his alien family as they crash on Earth and are torn between colonizing the planet or attempting to blend into the human population. Taking a page from shows like Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites is as much a classic animated sitcom as it is a clever parody of the popular cartoon series format. Surreal humor is its trademark, and few shows do it as well.
Despite its already lengthy run on Hulu, Solar Opposites hasn't been without its controversy, and it was nearly derailed by behind-the-scenes drama. Co-creator Justin Roiland was ousted from the series following a host of domestic abuse charges, but Solar Opposites managed to charge ahead without him. Roiland's departure after season 3 changed very little for the quirky comedy,...

Many, many years before Kieran Culkin won an Emmy Award for his role as Roman Roy in Succession, he had an on-set experience that was less than ideal. People reports via the Smartless podcast, that while making his first commercial the director called him a “dummy.”
“First professional experience I had was a commercial when I was 6,” said Kieran to Smartless hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. Although Culkin doesn’t exactly remember what the commercial was for he said it was “something to do with learning disabilities.”
“The concept was I’m standing in front of a chalkboard with chalk in my hand, and I don’t know how to solve the easy thing in front of me,” recalled Culkin. “And the kids in the class are supposed to be calling me a dummy and stupid, all that,” he continued.

Members of the Animation Guild have overwhelmingly agreed to ratify its three-year deal with the studios.
The guild saw 76.1% of its members in favor of the contract with the AMPTP. This comes after months of negotiations with the studio reps.
The new three-year deal – the 2024-2027 Animation Guild Master Agreement – wasn’t, however, as popular as its previous deal, signed in July 2022, which saw 87% members vote in support.
The guild said that voter turnout increased “beyond the historic turnout of last cycle’s vote”, which itself tripled the prior vote.
Among the provisions secured in the latest contract are increases to health and pension funds, wage increases, AI protections, and more. Specifically, this included 7% wage increased in the first year, 4% in the second year and 3.5% in the third. A.I. protections include written notifications and the ability to consult with the production and identify alternative non-GenAI tools. There are also...

No other film came close to this number, though “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” from Aardman and Netflix and “Inside Out 2” from Pixar Animation were closest with 7 nominations each. “That Christmas” from Locksmith Animation and Netflix also fared pretty well, eking out 6 nominations, including in major categories like Best Feature.

In a sea of science fiction series that take themselves far too seriously, “Star Trek Lower Decks” has been a sweet and funny balm, a loving parody of the iconic speculative fiction universe that celebrates and pisses on its history in equal measure. Like all good sitcoms, however, “Lower Decks” is coming to an end, and the finale promises to be…maybe, possibly, moderately serious?
The animated series will premiere the finale to its fifth and final season Thursday, December 19, on Paramount+. Adult animation reached new heights in 2020 with the debut of Solar Opposites. The series is the perfect blend of absurd sci-fi comedy and surprising heartfelt moments. Solar Opposites, the hilarious brainchild created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, has solidified its rank among some of the best adult animated series. The animation follows a dysfunctional alien family stranded on planet Earth, whose chaotic attempt to coexist with humanity presents a lot of room to grow. Still, audiences enjoy the quirks of the outrageous family, resonating with scenes that offer humorous yet endearing perspectives on humanity. The show provides a fresh look at everyday life through the chaos of this small alien family, going beyond its absurdity and exploring surprisingly deep themes.

The Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ bundle is here and fully functional. Disney+ added an ESPN tile and hub on its platform, meaning that subscribers to the bundle will now be able to seamlessly access all three services in the U.S.

The cast of Abigail elevates the movie's unique hybrid of a heist film and a horror movie, with strong performances from the ensemble. Abigail focuses on a group of criminals and killers who find themselves tasked with kidnapping the daughter of a powerful and wealthy man. While they're initially scared of repercussions coming from the hands of her father, the group soon realizes the full extent of the danger they're in when they realize that the young Abigail isn't what she seems.
Abigail is an impressive critical success with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, and despite its lukewarm box office, Abigail's streaming success has given it new life. The gory horror film is a great blend of horror, comedy, and action, all building to one of the bloodiest (and most satisfying) climaxes of the year so far. Bolstering it all is a cast of seasoned pros and younger faces, including horror stars like Melissa Barrera.

Bob Odenkirk couldnt have been more perfect for Saul Goodman, but three different actors also played him in Breaking Bads universe. Very few actors are as inextricably attached to a role as Odenkirk is with Saul; its like James Gandolfini with Tony Soprano or Bryan Cranston with Walter White. Sauls early episodes in Breaking Bad made great use of Odenkirks comedic talents, but as the series went on and the character was developed a lot more and especially after he was given his own spin-off show this role also introduced the world to Odenkirks untapped abilities as a dramatic actor.
Across Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, outside of a couple of isolated flashbacks, Jimmy McGill was mostly only played by Odenkirk. A couple of younger actors were brought in to briefly play the character at different stages of his life, but Odenkirk was never too far away from the...

Solar Opposites all-star cast, which is made up of Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack, is the series secret weapon and far stronger than any regular sci-fi shenanigans. ‘Solar Opposites’ returns for a transformative Halloween special that gets to the crux of the spooky season by riffing on a Christmas classic.
“Stop celebrating Halloween? Oh no, my pretty. I think you’ll find that you Are Halloween.”
Halloween specials have become a long and storied tradition in television and they’re a great opportunity for series – comedies and dramas alike – to really flex their genre muscles and remind audiences of Halloween’s inherent splendor. The beauty of Solar Opposites is that it’s a series that’s endlessly devoted to pop culture parodies and extended satire subversions that have touched on everything from Gerald’s Game to Now You See Me. The Solar family have largely fallen in love with Earth and its customs through their obsession with television and cinema’s warm inviting glow. After the Disney acquisition of Fox, the House of Mouse has been dusting off some older properties to appeal to a more adult audience. It has revived beloved animated hits like Futurama while protecting shows such as Solar Opposites and The Simpsons so that they may become mainstays of the company's streaming platforms. But Disney continues to reach further back into the archives, eyeing up a show that was once atop the mountain before eventually fading into obscurity. While there is the top tier of animated classics like South Park or Family Guy, which modern audiences will be familiar with, for a whole generation, King of the Hill will be a completely new experience. Indeed, the animated series was massive at the time of its release and enjoyed many successful years on Fox itself. However, its cancelation in 2010 after a decline in ratings put an end to that story for the time being.

Even if you’re not a Halloween person, October means spooky season. It feels like every brand, store, — and yes, every streamer, finds ways to incorporate themes of haunting and horror. Disney+ started early, with the September premiere of “Agatha All Along,” which will air new episodes for the next several weeks. In October, the streamer will debut “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” an expansion of the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 to 2012.
