The upcoming Avatar movies will introduce new characters, expanding the franchise beyond Pandora. James Cameron has a pool of talented actors, including Linda Hamilton and Jamie Lee Curtis, for possible roles. Actors like Michael Biehn and Robert Patrick could play intriguing roles in the Avatar universe, adding depth to the story.
There are still three Avatar movies left from director James Cameron, and here are 10 actors that frequently collaborate with the actor that could appear in the upcoming movies. The Avatar franchise is already massive, with all kinds of characters, locations, and storylines existing within the world of Pandora, and that's after only two movies. The next three Avatar movies will undoubtedly expand the universe of the franchise even further, and with that means the introduction of more characters. Luckily, Avatar's James Cameron already has a massive pool of actors to pull from, and here is who they could play.

Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s company T-Street has signed a two-picture producing deal with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who took over as the studio’s co-chairs and CEOs in 2022, orchestrated the deal. It marks the producers’ first collaboration with Warner Bros., having previously worked with Lionsgate on the box office hit “Knives Out,” Netflix on its sequel “Glass Onion,” Disney on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and Focus Features on the neo-noir thriller “Brick.” It’s unclear if Johnson will direct either of the two films that he’ll be overseeing at Warner Bros.
“Mike and Pam’s renewed commitment to original storytelling and the theatrical experience make Warner Bros. Discovery an ideal place to help us bring the filmmakers we love to audiences around the world on a grand scale,” said Johnson and Bergman. “We’re thrilled to have them as partners.

Johnson and Bergman will have two “put” pictures, meaning the studio will make what they agree on. Rian Johnson is headed to the Warner Bros. lot.
The filmmaker’s T-Street banner, which he runs with producing partner Ram Bergman, has inked a two-picture producing pact with Warners, the studio announced Monday. It’s the latest in a series of deals Warners has inked with top talent as it shores up its relationships across Hollywood, even as it has taken some reputational hits in some creative corners for shelving several films. As a director, Johnson is known for mind-bending features like Looper, big budget genre entry Star Wars: The Last Jedi and original who dunnit film series Knives Out, which has included sequel Glass Onion and an upcoming third installment, which is aiming to film later this year for Netflix. Directed by Homi Adajania, the Netflix 2024 film Murder Mubarak is a whodunnit comedy drama. Every movie or show in this genre is filled with a whole lot of characters who have more than one reason to commit the murder and are under the assumption they would get away with it. The presence of an investigating officer will only make the matter worse, as one of the many in the crowd will eventually be caught if the telltale signs are caught on to, and the cop will catch up to the clues and see through the criminal as he or she explains their side of the story. Murder Mubarak uses the same template with several characters who have enough and more motive to kill a person.

Apples Never Fall delves into complex family dynamics. The series' mystery is intriguing and presents many twists and turns. Annette Bening and Sam Neill stand out in the talented ensemble
Apples Never Fall presents an engaging mystery that keeps the audience guessing at each turn. Comedic takes on mystery stories are quite popular these days, between the Knives Out franchise, Peacock's own Poker Face, and more. While Apples Never Fall escapes that trend to present a dark mystery that is rooted in several years of trauma, the limited series is just as gripping with its dramatic lenses, making for one of the best television series to debut this year so far.

Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty (author of Big Little Lies), Apples Never Fall is a mystery-drama series created by Melanie Marnich for Peacock in 2024. The Delaney family seemingly has it all from an outsider's perspective. Still, when...

Benoit Blanc's character could benefit from having an assistant, like Rufus Cotesworth in Death and Other Details. Introducing a detective protégé for Blanc could add a new dynamic to Knives Out 3 without straying from its successful formula. The lack of a Holmes/Watson dynamic in the Knives Out films could be filled by bringing in a younger character to learn from Blanc.
The Knives Out films introduced Benoit Blanc as one of the greatest fictional modern detective characters, but a new Hulu mystery series has exposed a missed opportunity for his character that could and should be explored in subsequent additions to the franchise. Rian Johnson’s Benoit Blanc is a major reason the Knives Out films have been so successful, with Daniel Craig’s character being the constant between them. Knives Out 3 has been confirmed, and one new character could bring out what the films have been missing thus far.

Knives Out breathed new life into the murder mystery genre with clever details like Harlan's invisible letters to Linda. Linda and Harlan shared a unique bond with hidden letters in invisible ink, a secret custom only they knew about. Linda's discovery of Harlan's revealing letter was fueled by Richard's careless actions, revealing the truth in a twist of poetic justice.

Dan Lin, the producer behind the Lego movies and the new live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, has been tapped as the new head of film for Netflix, according to sources.
Lin steps into the role vacated by Scott Stuber, who announced in January he would step down in March.
Lin’s name had been in the mix since the early days of the headhunting, along with former Disney executive Sean Bailey and Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey, among a handful of others. Bailey seemed like the choice until he wasn’t, with the Feb. 26 shake-up at Disney resulting in his departure after a 15-year run at the Burbank-based studio.
Making a deal with Lin was not a slam dunk. Lin remained strongly tied to Rideback, his prolific production company, and Rideback Rise, his equally robust nonprofit endeavor. The two entities proved to be stumbling blocks on previous occasions when...

British actor Daniel Craig recently appeared on Broadway in “Macbeth” opposite Ruth Negga as his queen. He was first bitten by the acting bug at the age of six, when he made his debut in a primary school production of the musical “Oliver.” As an adult, Craig would initially be hired for supporting roles on the big screen. But he would eventually headline a major franchise – namely, the 007 films.
On October 14, 2005 MGM and Sony Pictures announced in London that Craig would take over the James Bond series with his first film being 2006’s “Casino Royale.” The action hero wore a tuxedo and a life jacket as he arrived via a Royal Navy speedboat. Some fans of the secret agent were a little leery about having a blond-haired and blue-eyed Bond and not a tall, dark and handsome iconic character. But Craig was widely praised by critics and former 007’s.

Peacock’s Emmy-winning “The Traitors” is a reality series with the surprising aesthetic of a glossy Hollywood murder mystery — think Kenneth Branagh‘s Hercule Poirot movies or Rian Johnson‘s “Knives Out.” According to production designer Mathieu Weekes, the resemblance is entirely intentional. “Once I’d seen the location, the first thing that sprung to mind was ‘Knives Out,'” Weekes told IndieWire. “It was an obvious starting point in terms of that brooding, slightly menacing look, with the slightly dark undertones of the dressing and production design.”
After he studied “Knives Out” for its palette and set decoration, Weekes embraced a different kind of reference point: the board game Clue, which felt like a natural fit for the castle setting of “The Traitors,” with its many rooms in which the contestants engage in duplicitous behavior and Alan Cumming peacocks in high fashion. Just as each room in Clue has its own distinct personality,...

Between Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” sequel “Glass Onion,” the terrible quarantine “Purge” ripoff “Songbird,” and Doug Liman’s inert Covid heist movie “Locked Down”, movies have tried — and usually failed — in depicting the everyday horrors and quirks of the pandemic. Admittedly, turning the absence of interaction and drama into good cinema is an unenviable challenge. Olivier Assayas is the latest to try and, unfortunately, the latest to largely fail.

Christopher Nolan may collaborate with new actors for his next project, offering opportunities for fresh talent. Ana de Armas, Dev Patel, and Rosamund Pike are viable candidates for Nolan's next protagonist. Bella Ramsey, Steven Yeun, and Idris Elba have the range and talent to excel in a Nolan film.
Christopher Nolan may be working on a new project soon, and it would be exciting to see him collaborate with some new actors who are well-suited to his intense and stylistic movies. Some actors have returned for multiple Nolan movies, including Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, and Anne Hathaway. Blockbusters often make more money than award-winning films, but the latter showcases actors' talents more. The highest-grossing movies may not be actors' best movies when they have other critically acclaimed performances. The cultural impact of great movies, regardless of their commercial success, is significant for actors' careers.
For many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, their highest-grossing movie and their best movie are not one and the same. Summer blockbusters, including most superhero movie franchises, tend to make more money than complex pictures that are typically the focus of awards shows. In several cases, blockbusters have included small Easter Eggs that nod to a lead actor's previous roles, recognizing their higher status in the cultural zeitgeist.
Oscar nominees may be criticized for being slow or complicated, while action movies are more engaging. Yet, the former category typically does more to highlight an actor's talents. However, both types of movies represent important...

Benoit Blanc's character in the Knives Out movies is crucial to the success of the series, and a minor change in Knives Out 3 can make him even more interesting and compelling. Adding more depth to Benoit Blanc's personal life would elevate the movies and make the character even more likable and relatable. Exploring Blanc's personal relationships and motivations, as well as introducing new dynamics like his partner or a rival detective, would make Knives Out 3 unique and improve the overall series.

Knives Out 3 should delve into the relationship between Benoit Blanc and his partner Phillip, providing more backstory on their dynamic. The next film could expand the Knives Out franchise by including more British actors like Hugh Grant and exploring new locations. Knives Out 3 has the opportunity to develop the backstory of Detective Blanc, revealing more about his past and how he became a skilled detective.
With Knives Out 3 confirmed, it's worth considering just what the threequel needs to include to match the same standard as the first two Knives Out movies. While details about Knives Out 3 are still scarce, it doesn't mean that certain elements can't be theorized about or hoped for. What is known, however, is that Daniel Craig's Detective, Benoit Blanc, is gearing up to solve whatever mystery may come his way.

David Gordon Green, the filmmaker behind Universal’s Halloween trilogy and The Exorcist: Believer, is leaving horror behind to direct a family drama starring Ben Stiller about a man connecting with his unruly nephews after a tragic accident claims their parents’ lives. The feature-length project is a hard left turn at Albuquerque for Green, who’s spent most of his recent filmmaker career bringing Halloween’s Michael Myers and William Peter Blatty’s Exorcist back to the horror fold. Is Green leaving horror for good, or is Nutcrackers a breath of fresh air before he returns to the bloody and brutal genre?
On Wednesday, Rivulet Films, Rough House Pictures, and Red Hour Films announced that Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Toby Huss have joined Ben Stiller in the film based on a script by Leland Douglas.

Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker and Toby Huss will star in David Gordon Green’s “Nutcrackers.” They join the previously announced Ben Stiller, who will play a work-obsessed man who travels to rural Ohio to look after his four nephews after their parents die in a car accident.
Heidecker will play a local deputy, Patterson has been cast as an orphan profiteer, Huss portrays an eccentric empty-nester millionaire and Cardellini takes on the role of a social worker who helps Stiller’s character on his journey to find a home for the boys. The film is based on a script by Leland Douglas and was developed by Rough House Pictures.
Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill, Red Hour Films’ Stiller and John Lesher, and Rough House Pictures’ Nate Meyer are producing. Rivulet fully financed the film, which recently wrapped production outside of Cincinnati.

Late last year, Rian Johnson released a follow-up to his surprising 2019 hit, Knives Out. This time, Benoit Blanc has a new adventure that takes place on a lavish estate on a Greek island. It features an eccentric group of wealthy societies and billionaire Miles Bron for their yearly reunion. It’s unknown why Blanc’s presence is needed until someone turns up dead during the expensive party. Upon release, Glass Onion was well-received by both critics and fans. Surprisingly, the Netflix exclusive didn’t make much of a dent on the Oscar circuit as it was only nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Benoit Blanc will return to solve another bizarre case in Knives Out 3 which will reportedly film later this year. More here.
Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig are preparing to return to the wonderful world of Benoit Blanc.
Collider reports that cameras are rolling on the third instalment of Johnson’s riotously fun franchise later this year. Craig will return to play the master sleuth and Netflix is backing the film as it did Glass Onion.
That’s really all there is to this story. We have no casting news or even a title for the new whodunnit. We expect it won’t be called Knives Out 3; Knives Out 2 became Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery so expect something similar for the third film.
In October 2023, Johnson did confirm that he was working on the script for Knives Out 3, but work was disrupted by the writers’ strike.

Knives Out 3 will begin filming later this year with Daniel Craig reprising his role as Benoit Blanc. Producer Katie McNeill has joined Rian Johnson's T-Street partners for the film. No casting updates have emerged yet, but Johnson has been writing the script since the end of the 2023 writers strike.
The Benoit Blanc mystery Knives Out 3 has received a major filming update after months of silence. Following on from 2019’s Knives Out, Netflix would pick up the rights for two sequels in a massive $469 million deal. Drawing much of his inspiration from the work of renowned mystery novelist Agatha Christie, writer/director Rian Johnson would later establish his 2022 sequel, Glass Onion, as a standalone mystery with only Daniel Craig’s brilliant southern detective returning. In October last year, Johnson confirmed he had resumed work on the threequel’s script following the conclusion of the 2023 writers strike.

Netflix has scrapped the release of “The Mothership,” a science-fiction film starring Halle Berry.
The movie finished filming in 2021, but it couldn’t be completed after multiple delays in post-production, Variety has confirmed.
“The Mothership” is the latest Hollywood movie to disappear even though filming had wrapped. Since 2022, Warner Bros. has axed three movies — John Cena’s “Coyote vs. Acme,” the $90 million budgeted DC adventure “Batgirl” and the animated “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” — for the purpose of tax write-offs.
“Bridge of Spies” writer Matthew Charman directed “The Mothership,” which takes place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm. Now a single mother, Sara Morse and her children discover an extraterrestrial object underneath their home. It (hopefully) leads them to discover the truth about the patriarch’s disappearance. Molly Parker and Omari Hardwick round out the cast.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos was asked by an analyst on today’s Q4 earnings call if “the recent management departure” would impact the streamer’s future plans for making original feature films.
“Recent management departure” meaning Film Boss Scott Stuber (who wasn’t specifically name-checked on the call), who is expected to leave in March to start his own media company.
The analyst pointed out that Netflix original movies, even though they outperform licensed titles in viewers and hours, don’t have the same kind of cultural impact that the streamer’s series do.
“Our original movies are attracting some of the biggest audiences in the world,” heralded Sarandos, giving a shoutout to Sam Esmail’s thriller feature, Leave the World Behind, starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Myha’la.

Knives Out sparked a renewed interest in whodunnits and led to a sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Ensemble casts work well in story types that require knowing something about each character and in movies with no real overall plot. Movies like Ocean's Eleven and Knives Out benefit from showcasing each character's role in the story, allowing the audience to understand their motives. Pulp Fiction and Love Actually excel at handling large casts by dividing the narrative into smaller storylines that overlap, creating memorable characters without a need for an overarching plot.
Movies with large ensemble casts are challenged to balance the narrative among many characters, so each arc is compelling in its own right. While ensemble movies are allegedly just a movie with a large cast, there is a difference between a movie with a protagonist and a lot of supporting characters vs. a movie that is about a group. Radio Silence Productions and Project X Entertainment, which were behind the revival of the Scream franchise with Scream (2022) and last year’s Scream VI, have formed a joint financing pact with studio MRC to fund and produce horror and thriller features, Variety reports. As part of this deal, the companies are aiming to produce two or three genre movies every year.
Radio Silence and Project X also collaborated on Ready or Not and the upcoming Universal vampire movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter). As for MRC, that studio has been behind such films as Knives Out, Devil, Baby Driver, The Blackening, Saltburn, American Fiction, and Self Reliance.
Radio Silence members Chad Villella, Tyler Gillett, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin provided the following statement: “To be able to formalize our alliance with Project X and work with a studio in MRC that champions original and fresh films couldn’t be more exciting to us as storytellers.

Amazon MGM‘s Play Dirty is ready to announce its female lead for director Shane Black’s upcoming film. Joining Mark Wahlberg for Black’s crime thriller is Rosa Salazar. Lakeith Stanfield also stars, with a script written by Black, Anthony Bagarozzi, and Chuck Mondry.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Play Dirty focuses on the “professional thief Parker (Wahlberg), who, after being double-crossed and left for dead, sees his hunt for revenge bring with it a shot at the biggest heist of his career. But even with the help of his partner, actor-slash-con artist Grofield (Stanfield), he’ll still need to outsmart a South American dictator, the New York mob, and the world’s richest man if he hopes to stay alive.”
Rosa Salazar’s Play Dirty role remains a mystery. However, the film is inspired by Donald E Westlake’s Parker crime novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark.

“Pay attention: Details matter,” growls a heavily accented Mandy Patinkin as detective Rufus Cotesworth in the opening seconds of “Death and Other Details,” created by Heidi Cole McAdams and Mike Weiss. There’s more to the quote — hours, and hours, in fact, of droll monologues about perception and detection throughout the series — but Hulu and ABC Signature’s new show appears to have skimped heavily on attention to detail, resulting in a product so shallow, so ramshackle, that it borders on unwatchable.
To its detriment, “Death and Other Details” is not as much about Rufus Cotesworth (a character who will only be referred to by his delightful full name throughout this piece), but about Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), who met him as a child while he was investigating her mother’s death. The MLK holiday weekend proved to be surprisingly fruitful at the box office thanks to strong showings from both the "Mean Girls" movie musical and Jason Statham's new beat-em-up, "The Beekeeper." Unfortunately, they can't all be winners and Sony Pictures' new comedic Biblical epic "The Book of Clarence" faltered in its debut. It now has the distinction of being the first true theatrical disappointment of 2024.
Directed by Jeymes Samuel, the film opened to just $2.5 million over the weekend, with that number growing to $3 million when accounting for the Monday holiday, per The Numbers. It placed 10th on the charts, barely squeaking into the top 10 sandwiched between a pair of holdovers in the forms of "The Boys in the Boat" ($3.4 million) and "The Iron Claw" ($2.4 million). A rough start, to be certain. And yes, certain parts of the U.S. are experiencing terrible winter weather, which impacted moviegoing for sure.

It’s been really helpful … Billie Eilish. I’ll try to get her to sign one later tonight. You know, I hear Jodie Foster is gonna be here tonight. So I’ll try to get a signature, some sort of a blood oath or you know, spitting in a...

Adam Fogelson is replacing Joe Drake as chair of Lionsgate’s motion picture group.
Drake reportedly initiated the transition and will be working with Fogelson over the coming months on succession plans. Drake, who was named co-chair of Lionsgate in 2017, will be leaving the company. He’s departing after leading the studio to its first billion-dollar year since 2019, thanks to commercial winners like “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
“Despite unprecedented disruption over the last few years, we built a team that thrived throughout and achieved everything I could have imagined at Lionsgate,’ Drake said in a statement. “Having worked side by side with Adam for the past 18 months, he is the perfect choice to lead the motion picture group forward to even greater heights.”

Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake is exiting the studio. He’ll hand the reins to Adam Fogelson, who formerly lead both Universal Pictures and STX Motion Picture Group; Fogelson joined Lionsgate’s film group in 2022 as vice chair. This is now the third studio Fogelson will lead dating back to 2009.
Drake returned to Lionsgate in 2017 after starting Good Universe Pictures, which Lionsgate acquired from Drake. He most recently oversaw Lionsgate’s first $1 billion year at the global box office since 2019, thanks in large part to new “John Wick,” “Hunger Games,” and “Saw” films. Drake also oversaw the successes of “Knives Out,” “Jesus Revolution,” “Shotgun Wedding,” and more.
Fogelson and Drake will continue to work together over the next couple of months.
