When it comes to last-minute wedding plans going haywire, the exploits of Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove in the first trailer for Netflix’s romantic comedy Mother of the Bride just might take the cake.
Mark Waters’ movie debuts on the streamer May 9 and also stars Benjamin Bratt, Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris and Sean Teale. Mother of the Bride centers on Emma (Cosgrove), who shocks her mom, Lana (Shields), with the revelation that she is getting married in a month in Thailand. More complications ensue when Lana learns that the father of the groom is Will (Bratt), who broke her heart years ago.
“My daughter has to fall for the son of the guy who ripped my heart out,” Shields laments in the trailer. Cosgrove then asks her mom, “I get that you were a thing in college, but what’s the big deal?”

Vanessa Hudgens is ushering in a new season: the season of the witch.
Hudgens is known for her triple-threat talents, from acting in “Spring Breakers” to singing in “Tick, Tick…Boom!” to dancing in “Grease Live!” and starring in franchises like Netflix’s “The Princess Switch” and Disney’s “High School Musical.” But her latest project is her most personal yet — she is embarking on a spiritual journey in Salem with her best friend, musician Gg Magree, for the unscripted film, “Dead Hot.”
“Dead Hot” — which premieres April 14 on Tubi — is a true passion project for Hudgens and Magree, who are fascinated with the spirit world and came up with the idea to document their experience together. In the film, the duo set out to Salem, Mass., where they explore witchcraft, ghost hunting and connect with spirits.
“It was a lot more personal than anything I’ve ever done,” Hudgens tells Variety.

Christmas is quickly approaching, with Netflix having released its yearly selection of original festive romantic comedies.
Over the last few years we’ve seen the streaming service take inspiration from the likes of Hallmark and Lifetime to produce cookie-cutter Christmas romcoms guaranteed to numb your mind like one too many mulled wines.
Revolutionary these films are not, but boy, do they hit the spot during the festive season. With titles like The Princess Switch, The Knight Before Christmas and A Castle for Christmas on offer, audiences have learnt that no plot is too ludicrous for a Netflix Christmas romcom. The more time travel, magic, döppelgangers and fictional European royalty on offer, the better.
With that in mind, I’m taking a look at Netflix’s in-house Christmas romcoms and ranking them based on just how ridiculous they are. This list has also been updated for 2022, which means this is the...

She wore a brown, snakeskin bikini as she held up one leg and jutted out her hip while she rinsed off. She held one arm over her head with her wet hair slicked back by the water, and put her head back with her eyes closed as she enjoyed the relaxing sensation.
On top of the photo, she wrote, “Hands down best part of summer=outdoor shower [heart eye emoji].”
The shower looked absolutely divine, with wood paneling all around an open roof, but it was Olivia who really stole all of the attention.

Netflix and Disney set their festive films in a made-up mishmash of France, Switzerland, Romania and everything in between. Is real Europe so hard to love?
Netflix’s Christmas universe is an inescapable one, and two of its most successful franchises are The Princess Switch – which recently saw the release of the series’ third film – and A Christmas Prince. Both these franchises take place in a particularly interesting non-place: their American heroines travel to a made-up country which is a perfect synthesis of a certain Europe as seen through certain eyes. This territory – whether it’s named Belgravia, Montanero or Aldovia – does not exist on the map, and yet gets built again and again. It is a curious mishmash of Romania, Switzerland, Italy and everything in between, topped off with a healthy dose of bad British accent.

Netflix is giving Hallmark a run for their money with a ton of cute original Christmas movies, but did you know they're all connected? That's right - Netflix is getting in on the connected-universes craze with their very own Netflix Christmas movie shared universe! Here's exactly how all of your favorites fit together.
There are two different overarching ways that these movies are connected: on-screen cameos and full-fledged name-dropping. The former category is how it all began. In the 2018 movie The Holiday Calendar, the creative team needed to show a movie playing on a screen within the movie itself. "It felt like a natural fit to show one of our other films available on Netflix," said Amanda Phillips Atkins, EVP at production company Mpca. As a result, a scene from 2017's The Christmas Inheritance pops up on a TV. The Christmas Inheritance also shows up on a TV in The Princess Switch,...

A royal reign on-screen is good enough for Vanessa Hudgens. The actress, who starred in all three installments of Netflix's The Princess Switch franchise, has gotten a fictional taste of the intricacies of being a Queen, Princess, and a Lady. However, just because the 32-year-old star has experience playing three different look-alike royal members—swapping spaces in the highest of places—doesn't mean it's something she thinks she would be able to truly handle in reality. Admitting that she doesn't really "keep up with the royals," the actress recently told Glamour UK, "I would never want to be a royal. The idea of it, the chicness of it, it's cute, but, like, the...

Who would have guessed, back in 2018, that The Princess Switch would turn out to be a full-fledged holiday franchise for Netflix? This year marks the third installment in the series, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star. Will this be the final movie, or is a fourth installment on the horizon? Truthfully, it's still too early to say.
Back in 2020, Entertainment Tonight reported that a third movie had been green-lit before the second one even debuted, which seems like a good sign that Netflix values the Princess Switch franchise. No such announcement has been made ahead of Romancing the Star's Nov. 18 debut, meaning that a fourth movie probably hasn't been decided on just yet. Most TV shows and movies don't get picked up for new seasons or sequels until weeks or even months after the prior installment's debut, so the fate of the Princess Switch series is still up in...

Netflix has released the first look of Lindsay Lohan’s forthcoming Christmas rom-com, which is still untitled. Lohan has largely foregone acting in recent years, so this movie — which will stream during the holiday season next year — marks her return to the screen. In “Untitled Holiday Rom-Com,” Lohan stars opposite Chord Overstreet.
Variety exclusively broke the news of Lohan’s Netflix movie in May.
In the movie, Lohan plays a “newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress” (according to the logline), who gets amnesia after a skiing accident and “finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner” — that would be Overstreet — “and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.”
George Young, Jack Wagner and Olivia Perez are also in the cast.

Nina Dobrev gets catfished in a pleasant, if mostly unoriginal, Christmas comedy
It might only be early November but ’tis already the season for Netflix to litter its halls with boughs of cheap Christmas content, the most obvious time of the year for the streamer to model itself after the Lifetime and Hallmark channels, a strategy that’s undoubtedly, somewhat depressingly, paying off.
Last year’s truly execrable A California Christmas was the streamer’s biggest film for a week, beating out bigger-budget options (a sequel drops next month), despite being almost maliciously incompetent, following on from the continued success of The Princess Switch franchise. And so this year there’s more questionable options than ever, from Brooke Shields in A Castle for Christmas, Elizabeth Hurley in Father Christmas is Back and Netflix’s first LGBTQ Christmas comedy, Single All the Way.

We love an early Christmas present—especially in the form of watching Vanessa Hudgens trade places again (and again) in the first trailer for The Princess Switch 3. Netflix is warming the hearts of even the most bah-humbug of viewers with its newly released sneak peek of the third installment of The Princess Switch saga. The warm-and-fuzzy film, set for release in November, will once again follow Hudgens as she plays three identical-looking characters (Parent Trap–style). In the first 2018 film, viewers were introduced to a baker named Stacy De Novo and a princess named Duchess Margaret Delecourt who decided to switch lives just for the holidays. However, things got a little more complicated in the...

“The Princess Switch 3,” a romantic comedy starring Vanessa Hudgens, and more Christmas favorites are coming to Netflix this holiday season.
The third installment, newly titled “The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star,” drops on Nov. 18. In the film, Hudgens plays not one, not two, but three of the leading roles — Queen Margaret, Princess Stacy and Margaret’s look-alike cousin Fiona.

Netflix has dated its fall schedule of film releases, narrative and documentary. The service that promised a new movie each week has a whopping 43 films coming in the final four months of 2021. That is twice the volume of releases most film studios would dream of releasing in a busy calendar year. Can a studio generate that many movies and have most of them be any good? It will be a test of Netflix’s high volume plan, niche and targeted fare sprinkled with big star vehicles including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Regina King, Jennifer Lawrence, Adam McKay, Benedict Cumberbatch and more.

The streamer has made a robust business out of Christmas fare, and its original movies such as “Jingle Jangle,” “A Christmas Prince,” “The Christmas Chronicles” and “The Princess Switch” (inspired by Lohan’s “The Parent Trap”) have become instant (and repeatable) holiday classics.
In this new movie, Lohan will play a “newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress” (according to the logline), who gets amnesia after a skiing accident and “finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.” The rest of the cast has not yet been announced.
Lohan skyrocketed to fame as an 11-year-old actor, starring in a 1998 reboot of “The Parent Trap.” She followed that with a remake of “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls;” both roles cemented...
