“The Masked Dancer” sounds like a good idea on paper: Take megahit “The Masked Singer,” but the disguised celebrities get their groove — instead of their croon — on. But while Fox and executive producer Craig Plestis kicked around the idea of a spin-off in the wake of “Masked Singer’s” boffo ratings, they still weren’t sure it would work.
On “The Masked Singer,” panelists and viewers try to guess who’s under the costume via clues — but it’s ultimately their singing voices that help give it away or not. A dance show would take away that key component — how could anyone even try to make a guess?
Enter “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which had also capitalized on the popularity of “Masked Singer” to create its own “Masked Dancer” stunt. After those segments became viral hits and the “Masked Singer” team saw how well they played, Fox alternative entertainment and...

Like Jia Zhangke’s Still Life, Giraffe is a fiction sketched around the margins of an infrastructure project, capturing impressions of life and landscape in a place across which the state will soon sweep like a hand across a countertop. Instead of Still Life’s Three Gorges Dam, which juxtaposed the epic scope of the Ccp’s ambition against the worker ants carrying the project out or being washed away in its wake, Giraffe’s Danish director Anna Sofie Hartmann tells a prototypical EU story of technocratic consensus and its faint, localized counterweight of regret over dying tradition.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.”)
“The Masked Singer” Season 4 continued tonight with its third episode and thus third unmasking of the season. But following last week’s wild self-elimination by Gremlin (who turned out to be Mickey Rourke) this week’s episode got us back on track with a decision made by the judges and at-home audience.
On Wednesday’s episode, Popcorn, Giraffe, Sun and Snow Owls (the show’s first-ever two-headed costume) all competed during Group A’s playoffs round.
After those four Season 4 contestants performed, it was time for panelists Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke and guest judge Joel McHale, along with the “Masked Singer” super fans voting from home, to choose the “weakest” competitor for elimination.
The masked singer in question was Giraffe, who sang Kool & The Gang’s “Get Down on It.” He was voted off...

Part of the appeal of “The Masked Singer” is trying to figure out which famous faces are hidden beneath those masks. We nailed the identities of the first contestant from Group A who was sent packing at the end of the September 23 episode: Dragon (Busta Rhymes). The rest of the contenders in Group A returned to compete again on October 7 disguised as the Giraffe, Popcorn, Snow Owls and Sun.
Of these famous five folks, we are most certain about who is hiding inside the Popcorn costume. On the season 4 premiere, she rocked the house with her cover of the Pink hit song “What About Us.” We’ve watched that performance and her clues video over and over and think we’ve nailed her name. Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger both nailed the identity of the rapping Dragon, who was none other than hip-hop superstar Busta Rhymes. “I definitely felt like I was in an oxygen tank without oxygen,” said the Grammy-nominated rapper after becoming the first performer revealed this season. Watch his performance of LL Cool J‘s “Momma Said Knock You Out” above.
