The last female bee-hunter in Europe must save the bees and return the natural balance in Honeyland, when a family of nomadic beekeepers invade her land and threaten her livelihood.
Co-director Tamara Kotevska explains that "the film works like a mirror. Some people recognize themselves in Hatidze. Some people recognize themselves in the other family."
Take half, leave half.
Much of the promotional material described Hatidze as the "last female wild beekeeper in Europe." Although traditional wild beekeeping has died out in most of Europe, it is still widely practised in Polissia (Polesia), located in modern Ukraine.
