  • If I hadn't read the synopsis, after watching the film, I don't think I'd be any the wiser.

Its nicely shot, and clearly was made on a budget, but there just doesn't seem enough here. I get the disjointed editing is supposed to put us in the same state as the protaganist but nothing ever gets beyond that and we never learn enough about the character or the events.

I don't mind a slow film or a character study but this just isn't quite enough.

I was really looking forward for this movie given its categorized as my favorite genres (sci-fi mystery). I thought: ok, not a drama fan BUT I still hope its gonna be a good sci-fi mystery. I guess that's the "gamble" you have to make when you watch indie movies.

Yeah, utterly disappointed. I saw "slow burner" descriptions for it too. Yeah, its slow alright, its gonna burn your time too!

What caused him being alone in the town? Catastrophic event? Was it a dream? Was it some kind of alternate universe? Is he schizoid? Did his girlfriend die during the event? And how? Who killed her? Literally none of these question are answered!

Just a poor drama, not sci-fi, not a mystery.

The rating of 6.5 is unsuitable. ever heard of "nuance"? i get it, you're a survivor of something and you collect things. myself, like the main character is wasting time. i really wish i could have watched a movie worthy of 6.5 stars instead of this garbage. the story of a guy looting an abandoned town is not interesting or noteworthy. if the first hour was a shorter part of a better movie then i'd agree with the given rating. nuance is clearly missing from the filmmaker's vocabulary.

edit: 4 pins left in a frame does not a champion make, and drinking with a concussion is never a good idea.

Like the "Disappointed" reviewer said, "What caused him being alone in the town? Catastrophic event? Was it a dream? Was it some kind of alternate universe? Is he schizoid? Did his girlfriend die during the event? And how? Who killed her? Literally none of these question are answered!" I want to know! What is the disaster? What the HELL IT IS? SO ANNOYING NOT KNOWING! What was the disaster? What was the red glowing fire that seemingly dragged his gf away into the dark? What the hell is it? What disaster? What cataclysm? The surrounding forests sure looks fine! This is a weird movie that at first is intriguing, youd' think the answers will be forthcoming soon, but it never does, all the stupid character does is obsessed over his missing gf and paranoia about something in the dark, where he created boundaries of go/no go. So very irritating. INto the dustbin of forgotten history this goes!
  • Started out ok in first 5 mis ,,then wtf?....ive got no idea what happened in this mess...i could not understand any of it ...made no sense....feel bad for the director reading these reviews...gave it 2 stars out of pity...could have been so much better....sorry to people who made it by giving 2 stars...but it was waste of time

See this movie if you need a break from hyperactive Hollywood hype with it's pat formulas and labyrinthian plots. It will soothe you in a weird way, i.e. Nobody is THAT lonely. It made my world seem crowded (which it isn't in actuality). I perceived it as an allegory for what lost love is like. It feels like the end of the world for those who lose their significant other, at least for a while. I experienced the same extreme sense of remoteness and isolation only once in my life and this movie is a very good depiction of that gestalt. In fact it's been more than eight years and l still feel that loss. Fortunately the feelings are not debilitating anymore. Routine activities did help! Luckily l moved on with my life and the feelings aren't.

    Warning: Spoilers
Director, writer and star Alex Knapp has created the story of Adam, the last man on Earth, who daily follows the same routine, obsessively checking off the boxes for what he needs to do, before discovering that he might not be alone.

A post-apocalyptic paranoid love story, Adam finds himself obsessed with K. (Olivia Luccardi, Channel Zero: Butcher's Block), a woman who he once loved or who exists only in his mind. He begins to wonder if the wasteland he's living in is real or in his head as well.

Who is stocking the shelves at the end of all things? Why does the water and utilities work in Adam's apartment? Why are the go/don't go boxes everywhere he visits? Why does the bowling alley still work? These are the kinds of questions that this movie will leave you with, beyond the metaphysical ones of why are we here and are we experiencing the correct reality?
  • I wasn't sure where this is going. It's really WTF is happening. So Read the synopsis and now I totally get it. This is not some wouldn't it be nice story of some apocalyptic catastrophe. It is one man left alone after all humans have passed on. The film is so much more real than what other films would be like.

Apocalypse is will be much harder than what stupid films you are watching to make it a spectacle. It won't be. Wake up.
  • This film tells the story of Adam who may possibly be the last person left on earth. He tries to keep to a routine. He takes the rubbish out. He locks his front door. He leaves himself friendly voicemail messages. He imagines/dreams flashbacks to other people that were in his life, sometimes confusing reality. I can see why it has so many negative reviews. The film is about the last human on earth but its not really a sci-fi film. It really is just about one man alone on earth. It is a slow film and nothing ever really happens. The film didn't explain what had happened to everyone else. There also didn't seem to be any living things around (apart from a single mouse). All the services appeared to work and there is no sign of damage or dead people. I do not normally like slow films but I do like films about people, even if they don't go anywhere. This film doesn't really go anywhere. It is just about someone on their own doing little rituals and trying to do normal things in a very unnormal situation. I really found it fascinating. I enjoyed it but can really understand why others don't. Ignore the situation and plot. This is no sci-fi film.

Just watch it! I didn't read the synopsis, at first I thought the main character was just a loner awkward around people and so on. Then when he starts scrubbing names out of his book made me think his friends had problems etc. Wasn't till later that I realized he's just the last guy around, thought it revealed that well and if you go into the film blind it's very enjoyable.

I particularly enjoyed the bowling alley scene and I felt that the sound track was well selected and suitable throughout.

Unlike my fellow reviewer above I'm surprised it's rating is 4.3, I think perhaps it's easy to make clones of other films it's much more challenging to make films that arent so "cookie cutter", like this one. Well worth watching imo

Definitely not your typical run of the mill film here. The director is pulling from influences beyond the average viewers repertoire. The average viewer wants answers, they want things spelled out for them, and easy to digest. This film doesn't do that and I applaud it for taking that risk.

Well acted, well edited, beautifully shot. It's a strong indie film. Unconventional and thought provoking.

This film requires a mind that can fill in the blanks, and ride out the emotions of despair, hope, and disappointment, peppered with anxiety and the rush of fear.

We don't get to know what happens to the rest of humanity but that's okay, the film isn't about that. We just know they are tragically gone and he couldn't keep her safe. In a way, it seems she was helping to keep him safe, she was stronger than him.

It's about one man's journey into reconciliation with himself and not giving up, even when he literally loses it all. He has resolved to continue to live as closely to normal as possible.

In his spare time he looks for his lost love, he is convinced she's still out there somewhere. He loses his ability to stick to reality, but reality is to crazy to accept.

It can be a new beginnings movie. Starting over, which is bitter sweet. Even the best things sometimes end and a person must carry on. It's when Adam does this something wonderful happens.

I like the sound track. It's well thought out.

    The bowling scene.... its surrealness.

This film will have the Napoleon Dynamite Effect- you're either really like it or hate it.

    I really like it.
