The last two years of the BAFTA Awards told opposite stories of how Britain’s most prestigious film honors correspond with their American counterpart, the Oscars. In 2023, they went wholly in their own direction, voting differently from AMPAS in all major categories — showering Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” with gold and all but ignoring Oscar darling “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Last year, however, they matched the Oscars in every category save for best visual effects, as Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” ran the table on both sides of the pond. The BAFTAs, in other words, are either the most crucial Oscar precursor or the most rogue; either way, pundits watch them with bated breath.
When BAFTA voters go their own way, it’s often in favor of contenders close to home. Berger’s follow-up to “All Quiet,” the well-liked Vatican thriller “Conclave,” is the only British...

It’s not until the epilogue of The Brutalist that the audience receives the full picture of what they’ve been watching architect László Tóth (Oscar nominee Adrien Brody) construct with exacting precision and unbending resolve for the previous three hours. An institute built with specifications that mirrored the Nazi concentration camp at Buchenwald, where he was held prisoner before immigrating to America, that also memorialized the separation he had from his wife, Erzsébet Tóth (Oscar nominee Felicity Jones).
“For this project, he reimagined the camp’s claustrophobic interior cells with precisely the same dimensions as his own place of imprisonment, save for one electrifying exception; when visitors looked 20 meters upwards, the dramatic heights of the glass above them invited free thought; freedom of identity,” László’s adult niece Zsófia says during a tribute to her uncle. “He further reimagined Buchenwald and his wife’s venue of imprisonment in Dachau on the same grounds,...

It’s ironic that a quarter of the way into the 21st century, when studios have seemingly accepted home streaming as their primary means of movie distribution, Dp Lol Crawley has earned an Oscar nomination for “The Brutalist,” shot on VistaVision, a widescreen film process developed by Paramount Pictures in 1954 to help lure viewers away from their living room TVs and into the theaters.
Used for such films as John Ford’s “The Searchers,” Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments” and Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo,” VistaVision was designed as a competitor to 20th Century Fox’s Cinema- Scope, which employed an anamorphic lens to compress a widescreen image on to standard 35mm film stock.
“As opposed to pulling the film down vertically in a motion picture camera, it’s actually pulling it horizontally across eight perforations at a time,” explains Crawley. “So you end up with a bigger format,...

Despite the recent massive shakeup in the Oscar race after Anora took down The Brutalist at the Critics Choice, Directors Guild, and Producers Guild awards, look for The Brutalist to walk away with the most trophies at the 78th annual BAFTA Awards this weekend, according to Gold Derby’s winner predictions.
Both movies are going head-to-head for Best Film, where the other three nominees are A Complete Unknown, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez.
The Brutalist, which scored nine total BAFTA bids, is now forecasted to dominate the field by winning five trophies: Best Film, Best Director for Brady Corbet, Best Actor for Adrien Brody, Best Cinematography, and Best Score. The period piece tells the story of a Holocaust survivor who hopes to achieve the American Dream.

"The way that I work is to bring in extraordinary artists... and create situations where they can be free." A24 has debuted a new "making of" featurette for Brady Corbet's The Brutalist, focusing on the score and composer Daniel Blumberg. This exceptional score is nominated for an Academy Award this year and this video is being released during voting, in hopes of convincing more people to vote for it. The film already opened last year but considering it's one of the best films of the decade (including this score), happy to feature this video for an inside look at what went into making it. When visionary architect László Toth & his wife Erzsébet flee Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by an extremely wealthy benefactor - a man named Harrison Lee Van Buren Sr. Made by director Brady Corbet,...

Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Jesse Eisenberg, Joe Alwyn, Isabella Rossellini, Colman Domingo and Ralph Fiennes are among the presenters set for the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards.
Notably missing from the attendees list was Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón, whose awards campaign has catastrophically imploded following the discovery of controversial posts made on her X (previously Twitter) account. The star — the first trans actor to be nominated for an Oscar — has apologized, though tensions are said to be high between Gascón and streamer Netflix for hindering the film’s Oscar hopes. She has now been phased out of its awards campaign entirely.
The British Academy confirmed the guest and presenter lineup ahead of the prestigious ceremony Sunday, Feb. 16 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Other presenters include Adam Pearson, Adam Scott, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, Celia Imrie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gwendoline Christie, Hannah John-Kamen, James McAvoy, James Norton, Letitia Wright, Leo Woodall,...

The film world is experiencing a complex shift in its relationship with artificial intelligence, as studios and filmmakers navigate the technology’s potential and challenges.
Recent Oscar-nominated films have thrust AI into the spotlight, revealing both its promise and controversy. “The Brutalist” and “Emilia Pérez” used AI voice enhancement technology to improve actor performances, sparking immediate debate in Hollywood.
Major celebrities like Robert Downey Jr. and Glenn Close have voiced strong concerns about AI’s impact. Some productions have even started adding “no AI” disclaimers in film credits, similar to animal welfare statements.
However, a different perspective is emerging, particularly in international filmmaking. Scott Mann from AI company Flawless notes an “incredible undercurrent of excitement” among filmmakers about AI’s potential, despite public hesitation.
Innovative technologies are pushing boundaries. Flawless is developing “immersive dubbing” that adjusts actors’ lip movements for different languages. Director Tom Tykwer recently used this technology for “The Light,...

The Society of Composers and Lyricists announced its 2025 awards recipients at the sixth annual Scl Awards.
Composers and lyricists gathered together for a dinner and ceremony hosted by singer-songwriter Colin Hays, held at the Skirball Cultural Center. The evening opened with a performance of “Lean on Me” — meant to bring the community together after the recent wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles.
While the night’s atmosphere was overall celebratory, the awards ceremony took several opportunities to acknowledge the recent tragedy in the city. Composer Starr Parodi, who lost her home in the Palisades Fire, was given a replacement plaque for her previously earned jury award on stage.

Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce have officially joined the cast of The Dog Stars, Ridley Scott’s next film for 20th Century Studios. They will star alongside Jacob Elordi, who was cast earlier this year after Paul Mescal stepped away due to scheduling conflicts. Filming is set to begin in Italy at the end of April.
Based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, the movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after a deadly flu virus wipes out most of humanity. Elordi plays Hig, a pilot struggling to survive in this harsh new reality. He teams up with a hardened gunman, played by Brolin, as they navigate threats from roving scavengers. Along the way, Hig encounters Cima, a young doctor portrayed by Qualley, and her protective father, played by Pearce. The script was adapted by Mark L. Smith, known for The Revenant and the upcoming Twisters.

The Wild Robot‘s Oscar prospects may have gotten a boost on Wednesday as the Society of Composers and Lyricists announced its sixth annual award winners. The animated feature won Best Original Score for a Studio Film, defeating three of its Oscar rivals: Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and Conclave. The last of this year’s Best Score Oscar nominees, The Brutalist, competed in another category at the Scl Awards, winning Best Original Score for an Independent Film.
So does that mean the Oscar will come down to The Wild Robot and The Brutalist? In the Scl Awards’ previous five years, they agreed with the Oscars three times: Joker (2019), Soul (2020), and Oppenheimer (2023). In 2021, the Scl voted for Encanto (studio) and The Green Knight (independent), but the Oscar went to Dune. And for 2022, the Scl picked Nope (studio) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (independent), while the Oscars opted for All Quiet on the Western Front.

Has Hollywood reached peak AI paranoia? This awards season, before Karla Sofía Gascón’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) about George Floyd and Islam became the focus of consternation, the Oscar uproar was centered on the use of artificial intelligence in the tweaking of voice performances in Emilia Pérez — for Gascón’s singing — and in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, to improve the pronunciation of Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’ Hungarian-language dialog.
The virulence of the backlash against such minor and technical applications of AI — used, in both cases, with the full participation and approval of the artists involved — illustrates the widespread perception, inside the film industry and among the general public, that AI is a threat to jobs and to artistic integrity. An AI zero-tolerance policy has become fashionable for celebrities, with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Glenn Close and Hank Azaria raising the alarm. Distributors have taken...

Ridley Scott is pressing ahead with The Dog Stars, adding Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce to the cast.
During his press tour for Gladiator II, Ridley Scott revealed to Film Stories that a sci-fi project had been added to his upcoming slate, that was going to be a quick reunion with Paul Mescal. However, it would later emerge that Mescal had left the project because of his commitment to playing one of the Fab Four in Sam Mendes’ upcoming films based on The Beatles.
Still, the project is The Dog Stars, and it’s coming next from the bearded one.

The 2025 awards season may still be a few weeks from its final hurrah, but it’s already had an impact on the film industry as buyers and sellers prepare to congregate once more at the European Film Market in Berlin.
With a lineup of Oscar frontrunners that includes “The Brutalist,” “Anora,” “The Substance” and “Emilia Pérez” — coupled with some impressive box office figures that look only set to grow — this year’s race has highlighted the desire of cinemagoers for bold, director-driven, out-of-the-ordinary fare.
“When you look at ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘I’m Still Here’ and ‘The Substance,’ those films are unique, they told some of the best stories and bring a unique perspective on something,” said Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ Film Group which encompasses IFC Films.
For Shooman, the EFM is exactly the place where international buyers respond to these types of packages — led by creatively minded directors.

Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce are three actors who've had a pretty damn solid last twelve months. Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce Join Jacob Elordi in Ridley Scott Thriller ‘The Dog Stars’

Ridley Scott’s forthcoming dystopian thriller The Dog Stars is continuing to cast up after previously landing Jacob Elordi as the lead.
Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce are in final talks to star in the movie for 20th Century Studios. Mark L. Smith wrote the script, adapting Peter Heller’s 2012 apocalyptic novel of the same name.
The Dog Stars centers on a civilian pilot living on an abandoned airbase with his dog and an ex-Marine amid a devastating pandemic. A random transmission picked up by the pilot’s radio from his 1956 Cessna offers hope for a better life.
The Hollywood Reporter reported last month that Elordi was in early negotiations to replace Paul Mescal. Scott told the crowd at a Gladiator II screening in December that Mescal would likely drop out of reteaming with him in The Dog Stars due to the actor being busy with Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project.

Ridley Scott’s pandemic thriller, The Dog Stars, adds some significant star power today with Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce joining Jacob Elordi for an epic that finds a civilian pilot living a lonely life on an abandoned Colorado airbase with his dog and a hard-as-nails ex-marine. When a band of scavengers called The Reapers invades their space, Hig and his compatriots must prepare for battle.
The Dog Stars hails from 20th Century Studios and is based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller (Burn, The River, The Painter, The Last Ranger). Initially, Scott was reteaming with Gladiator II star Paul Mescal for The Dog Stars, but scheduling conflicts with his part in Sam Mendes’ Beatles anthology kept him from participating. Sources say Mescal plays Paul McCartney in Mendes’ upcoming film, making him essential to the project.

The script for Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist crescendos with a single line of stage direction: “The camera whip-pans over and up to the Statue of Liberty at a peculiar Low-angle.” However, the simplicity of the writing belies the creation and execution of one of the most arresting opening sequences in recent memory, the journey of a Hungarian immigrant (Adrien Brody), post-World War II, as he stumbles up from the bowels of a ship and sees the Statue of Liberty for the very first time.
“Brady had this particular twist-and-turn idea for it, and it’s obviously a very simple and straightforward metaphor,” Corbet’s cowriter Mona Fastvold tells Gold Derby of the now-famous shot from the 10-time Oscar nominee. The upside-down Statue of Liberty image has been front and center in the A24 marketing for The Brutalist, used in the film’s posters and trailers. “Sometimes it’s more...

They’ll star alongside Jacob Elordi, who was hired in January after Paul Mescal exited the 20th Century film due to scheduling issues. Production is expected to commence in Italy at the end of April.
Based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, “The Dog Stars” was adapted for the screen by Mark L. Smith (“Twisters”). Set in a post-apocalyptic society after a catastrophic flu virus wipes out nearly all of humanity, the story follows a pilot named Hig (Elordi) who befriends a cranky gunman (Brolin) as they try to outlast a roaming band of scavengers. Qualley is playing a character named Cima, a young doctor and the daughter of a jaded rancher (Pearce), whom Hig meets on the journey.

Sometimes, the British Film Academy paves the road to the Oscars. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Last year, the BAFTA Awards crowned the eventual Oscar winners in the top eight categories, with wins for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph and screenplay victories for American Fiction and Anatomy of a Fall. However, BAFTA and the Oscars split on all eight above-the-line categories two years ago. British voters embraced All Quiet on the Western Front that year over the eventual Oscars juggernaut, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The expectation at the moment — mainly because the race was so crowded before Anora won at the Producers Guild Awards and Directors Guild Awards — is that this year might offer something in the middle. Ahead are three key BAFTA Awards categories whose results might significantly impact the Oscars.

When it comes to the “technical” categories, we all know what the Academy voters like: large-scale world-building, showy “look at me” uses of craft, period detail, and, ideally, especially for certain categories (like Best Editing and Cinematography), it helps to be the Best Picture front-runner. But those aren’t always the ingredients that make for the best filmmaking and visual and aural storytelling.
With final Oscar voting starting yesterday, the IndieWire craft team looks at eight categories to see who is most likely to win and who we would pick if we had a vote. A few notes before we jump in.
The “Will Win” sections below are based on the latest predictions by IndieWire’s Bill Desowitz, the best craft and animation awards analyst in the business. Make sure to follow Bill’s continued coverage of the craft Oscar races as guild awards continue to confirm or upset predictions,...

Digital babies. Altered vocals. Deceased actors back from the grave. A list of major films that have used AI in their making:
Nb: The following contains an unavoidable spoiler for Alien: Romulus. Do skip that entry if you haven’t seen the film yet.
As the past few months have proven, AI is becoming an increasingly controversial topic both inside the film industry and without. As companies like OpenAI talk excitedly about the next generation of Artificial Intelligence replacing millions of jobs over the coming years, Oscar hopeful The Brutalist has sparked a backlash over its use of AI to adjust its actors’ performances.
The consternation has been such that the Academy is reportedly thinking about making it mandatory for filmmakers to disclose their use of AI when submitting their movies. The film industry, in essence, is racing to keep up with an area of technology that has only risen...

On the surface, last weekend’s two-day, three-show sweep for “Anora” appeared an unlikely surge for a film that had been losing momentum as an Oscar favorite.
In reality, though, what happened is probably less of a case of “Anora” rallying than it is a simple matter of Oscar watchers learning more about what voters have probably been thinking all along.
The lesson began on Friday evening at about 6:55 p.m. With one award left to go at the Critics Choice Awards, “Anora” seemed to be about fourth or fifth on the list of likely Best Picture winners. It had gone 0-for-5 at the Golden Globes in early January and had gone 0-for-6 with Critics Choice voters going into the final award of the night – and not only had “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu just won the Best Director award in an upset that gave one of the top...

Gold Derby has been asking AI bots to predict the Oscars all throughout this season, and some of their choices have been, shall we say, curious. First, Gemini was convinced that Joker: Folie à Deux and its stars, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, would all be nominees. Now, Meta’s AI has declared that controversy-prone Best Actress contender Karla Sofía Gascón is a “strong contender” to win the Oscar next month.
Gascón’s offensive social media posts about such topics as Muslims, George Floyd, and diversity at the Oscars were unearthed two weeks ago, causing the Emilia Pérez awards campaign to be derailed. As a result, she won’t be attending many of this season’s awards events, and she has issued a vow of “silence” to let her musical movie speak for itself.

In The Brutalist, a creatively uncompromising Hungarian-Jewish architect (Adrien Brody) immigrates to Pennsylvania after World War II and struggles to complete an ambitious project financed by a wealthy industrialist (Guy Pearce). Creating a three-hour epic in 34 days for under $10 million doesn’t allow the luxury of boundless obstinance, yet it’s easy to draw parallels between the protagonist’s unyielding artistry and a team of filmmakers that insisted on using the VistaVision format whose heyday ended more than 60 years ago. With the film, which is up for 10 Academy Awards, still in theaters and now also on VOD, Oscar-nominated cinematographer […]

Gold Derby’s top news stories for Feb. 11, 2025. Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, and Zoe Saldaña win Aacta International Awards
Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) are among the winners at the 14th Aacta International Awards, aka the Australian Oscars. Fiennes won Best Actor, while Pearce and Saldaña prevailed for their supporting performances. The AACTAs, which tend to favor homegrown talent, gave Best Actress to Pearce’s fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), who now has four Aacta International trophies. Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg won Best Screenplay for A Real Pain. Better Man took home Best Picture and Best Director for Aussie Michael Gracey, just like it did last week at the Aacta Awards, recognizing Australian cinema, where it claimed nine wins total.
On the TV side, Shōgun won Best Drama Series. Melbourne native Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown) took Best Actress in a Series.

This year’s five best director Oscar nominees — Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) and James Mangold (A Complete Unknown) — sat down for a conversation at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Monday to discuss their group of films, both separately and together.
In a chat moderated by The Hollywood Reporter‘s Scott Feinberg at the Arlington Theatre, Audiard kicked things off with a short discussion of Emilia Pérez, as he noted the film had a smaller budget than most American musicals and dubbed it, “a modest musical. It was my first time doing a musical, but it was also my first time working entirely in a studio, and that for me was both a shock and a tremendous discovery. “It’s not all Brutalism,” reads the bio line on production designer Judy Becker’s Instagram. “It’s pictures of my black cat, too.” Years before director Brady Corbet hired Becker to help him realize the designs of his fictional protagonist, architect László Tóth, in The Brutalist, Becker was a devoted fan of the concrete-heavy, minimalist style, sharing buildings that appealed to her on her social media account. “I used to love that everyone else hated it,” Becker says of brutalism. “There’s nothing ugly about it to me. It’s just so plain and soothing. I look at it, and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s so beautiful.’ “
When it comes to admiring the brutalist style, Becker has a lot more company now, partly thanks to evolving tastes but in some part because of the world she helped create in Corbet’s movie. The Brutalist, which is about a...

Universal’s “Dog Man” barked its way to the top of the U.K. and Ireland box office this weekend, debuting with a commanding £3.2 million ($4 million), according to Comscore.
The family-friendly animated adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s best-selling book series proved to be a major draw, delivering one of the biggest opening weekends of the year so far.
Last week’s leader, Disney’s “A Complete Unknown,” slid to second place, adding $1 million in its fourth weekend. The Timothée Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic has now reached $12.4 million. Also holding strong is Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which took third place with $869,889 in its eighth weekend. The prequel has now crossed $37.6 million, cementing itself as one of the highest-grossing family films of the season.
Trafalgar Releasing’s “Macbeth: David Tennant And Cush Jumbo,” the filmed stage production of Shakespeare’s tragedy climbed to fourth place with $858,637, bringing its total to $1.9 million.

More than 10,600 registered Gold Derby users voted for the 2025 Gold Derby Film Award winners — an all-time record — and they picked Brazil’s political biopic I’m Still Here as Best Picture. That makes it just the second non-English-language film to take top honors, following South Korea’s Parasite, which prevailed five years ago. Scroll down for our list of winners in all 22 categories and to watch many individual acceptance speech videos.

The final Oscar voting period has begun, and the year of multiple contenders has finally found its frontrunner.
For months, Hollywood has searched for its strongest best picture candidate. Now, with a sweep at the Critics Choice, Directors Guild of America and Producers Guild of America awards, Sean Baker’s “Anora” has emerged as the film to beat. The one-two punch of a DGA and PGA win has historically been a strong indicator of Oscar success. Since the co-existence of both guilds in 1994, only six films have lost best picture at the Oscars after securing both prizes: “Apollo 13” (1995), “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), “Brokeback Mountain” (2005), “Gravity” (2013), “La La Land” (2016) and “1917” (2019).
The $6 million indie about an outer-borough sex worker has stood out in a field of blockbusters, biopics and musicals. It’s one of only two Oscar nominees with a perfect precursor record, earning nominations from every major guild and securing key Oscar nods.

How did Anora pull off its guild twofer? Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng discuss Anora‘s winning weekend and make BAFTA predictions with Gold Derby editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum.
Anora had a stellar Saturday, bagging the first two industry awards of the season — and two big ones at that: the Producers Guild of America Award for Best Picture and the Directors Guild of America Award for Sean Baker. The awards also came 24 hours after the film won Best Picture and nothing else at the delayed Critics Choice Awards. The PGA and DGA victories were not forecasted in the odds, though PGA was less of a surprise, but now as a result, the film has reclaimed the top spot in the Best Picture and Best Director Oscar odds. PGA and DGA have great track records with the Oscars — the former has not aligned with Best Picture 10 times in 35 years...

Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, will not attend the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) this year at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Kensington Palace confirmed on Tuesday. Despite their absence, Prince William will make a pre-recorded appearance during the ceremony.
William, who has served as BAFTA president since 2010, continues to support the organization even as the royal couple reduces their public engagements. His upcoming visit to the London Screen Academy on Wednesday underscores his ongoing commitment to the film industry.
The royal couple’s absence follows a pattern of recent intermittent appearances at the prestigious event. Their last joint attendance was in 2023, with previous years marked by scheduling conflicts and personal circumstances, including Prince William’s absence in 2021 following his grandfather Prince Philip’s death.
This year’s BAFTA ceremony, hosted by David Tennant for the second consecutive year, promises high-profile competition. “Conclave,” starring Ralph Fiennes, leads the nominations with 12 nods,...

Prince William and Kate Middleton are not expected to attend the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday.
Kensington Palace confirmed Monday that the Prince and Princess of Wales would not attend the BAFTAs ceremony at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.
Although the royal couple will not be in person, Prince William is expected to pre-record an appearance, which will be showcased at the star-studded event. The future king of England has been the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010 and is set to visit the London Screen Academy on Wednesday.
William made an in-person appearance at the 2024 gala by himself shortly after it was announced Middleton had undergone surgery before revealing she was undergoing cancer treatment the next month.
It was in 2023 when Prince William and Middleton last attended the BAFTAs together, but it was not the first time they skipped the gala.

On the morning of the 97th Oscar nominations, the words “nominees to be determined” were on everyone’s mind. Half of the Best Picture nominees — “The Brutalist,” “Emilia Pérez,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys,” and “The Substance” — were announced without specific details over which producers would be eligible to attend and accept on the film’s behalf if it were to win. Animated Feature contenders “Flow” and “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” and Best Documentary Feature nominee “Sugarcane” were also announced without producers. The omissions sparked enough discussion that The Academy began selling “Nominees to Be Determined” tee shirts on its website.
The Academy determined the remaining nominations on Monday, February 10, announcing the producers for each remaining film. The list came with some notable omissions, particularly in the case of “The Brutalist.” Joining Brady Corbet as nominees are producers Nick Gordon, Brian Young, Andrew Morrison, and D.J. Gugenheim — not Mona Fastvold,...

When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its Oscar nominations on Jan. 22, it was surprising to see quite a few films nominated for best picture, best animated feature and best documentary feature listed alongside a mention that specific nominees were “still to be determined.”
In some cases, this was because the Producers Guild of America, to which the Academy defers on best picture nominee credits, had not yet determined which producers were awards-eligible. In other cases, contenders were simply late turning in their own paperwork.
But the bottom line is that on Monday, the Academy shared a list of which individuals designated as nominees had been confirmed by the organization for Oscar nominations in those categories.
The newly confirmed nominees, who bring the total number of individuals nominated for awards at the 97th Oscars to 220, are as follows:
The Brutalist (A24): Nick Gordon, Brian Young, Andrew Morrison,...
