  • We're out here searching for the next show to go on an adventure with and to fall in love with characters we've never met but are all too familiar but Boomerang wasn't that show.

I mean it is interesting enough to keep you watching till the last episode but that's how far it comes. It is sad because it already had a rich and very familiar background (talking about the 1992 movie it was spinned from) it could have leverage on but it missed that mark completely.

The characters were a beautiful mix and showed great promise for a modern cast but they were written too shallow to be memorable.

Generally the show lacked intrigue, suspense, conflicts and resolutions deep enough to matter.

Ok so I just started watching this show and I've never watched the original series. I'm just trying to figure out if I missed something the 1st 6 episodes Bryson was in love with simone but they were not together. All of the episodes show the cat and mouse chase between them but all off a sudden episode 7 they seem to be in a relationship. I am very annoyed with the way it just changed makes me not want to watch it anymore. And also when did the show become about lgtb I'm not against it I just don't get it after watching episode 7 I'm very dissatisfied with this series.

Loved the movie, the show is an insult to it's memory. Tetona Jackson and Tequan Richmond did a good job but Lala Milan was grating. The story lines were uninteresting and they insulted the movie from which this series sprang over and over. Huge miss.
  • Finally, the time has come for the black version of "yuppie" society to rise in the grand scale of television. For years we have been yearning for a fresh take on the black experience and Lena Waithe and her team at BET delivered just that. This show is funny, smart, sophisticated, but more importantly self-aware. The characters reflect the young professional experience with wit and style, I would 100-percent recommend this series to anyone who likes the comedic stylings of our generations genius such as Issa Rae (Insecure) or Donald Glover (Atlanta).
  • Warning: Spoilers
Lena Waithe thought it was a good idea to make a TV Series that serves as a sequel to the 1992 movie Boomerang. Now being that I've seen the movie several times and know how great it is, You'd think someone like her would know how to capture that magic. She didn't.

What do I mean by missing the point? Let me explain. The point of the movie predecessor was telling the story about a smooth ladies man who learns the value of love and relationships. It was never about the political things that this show highlights like black peoples rights, how to succeed as a black person. In the movie that was glossed over because it existed in a reality where that was possible, it didn't need further explanation.

Being that this show is 20 years later, you'd expect the old cast to be included correct? Wrong. They make no effort to include the old cast. Sure, you can have a scene with three male characters exercising like in the previous film, but it lacks meaning. And you can have an older woman say all the time: "I remember Marcus when he was this. Marcus would have done this.." But its not enough. Why isn't Marcus here? Why is his bratty daughter here instead with Bryson (Drew). Speaking of which Bryson's character is the son of Jacqueline. Which raises more questions. Who is the father? Why would she even have a kid? And why isn't she here??? In the original movie, all the characters were like able in a unique way. These characters are just boring.

Save your time and watch the original movie. This show is more about young black adults trying to distance themselves from their parents and make a living on their own, which is not what the original movie was about. Its no mystery why this show was cancelled.
  • Honestly, I don't understand the dislike for this show. It's neither a remake nor is it trying to be better than the original. It shows the African American struggles without victimizing its main characters, which is a step in the right direction if you ask me.

Six young friends try to navigate through the perils of their lives, learning lessons of love, work, and friendship. It's not really different than shows like "New Girl" as far material and the plot lines are very interesting and well written. There are quite a few twists and this seems like a show that gives you information sparingly as it goes on rather than dropping all the information about the characters on your lap as soon as you meet them.

I like the dynamic between the cast, how natural it all feels, and yes, I'm rooting for the main couple to get together. It's got it's cliched moments but I've seen some really awful television, like cringe-worthy awful, that is rated better than this show, so ignore the hate and give it a chance.
  • I wouldn't say that. I didnt like the show I think its greatly mis advertised. It also a bit corny. I think its sad that african americans or now only associated with being gay or lgbtq.... Not really my problem but its sad

BET sometimes can be a hit or miss when it comes to scripted shows. This show is well scripted, well casted, and is relatable to the current times. It revolves around black culture and the things we face on a daily. Love it!!!
  • I really liked following this group of friends, they had great chemistry with each other. The soundtrack is stellar a lot of nods to some classic '90s RnB. My favourite part of the show was the imaginary sequences and scenarios especially in season 2, they added some fun and humour to a show. I feel like the show was under promoted and mis advertised as a "reboot" to the original movie from 1992, that it is loosely connected to. It could have stood just as strong and found the right audience on its own grounds. A light hearted yet sincere show about friendship, figuring out identity and romance. Would have loved a 3rd season. Hope the show receives more love in the future.
  • A friend recommended this series. I waited several weeks before actually watching.

My friend should have led with the fact that Lena Waithe, together with Halle Berry, is this series' EP.

Lena Waithe won an Emmy for the episode of Master of None she wrote - she has a gift for crafting memorable and moving TV episodes.

Lena, Halle and the rest of their team do an excellent job of weaving in classic scenes and tropes from the Boomerang movie in a fresh and modern take.

A few of the characters are annoying - until you realize: duh, they're rich 20-somethings. Exactly as they should be.

The #pride and #metoo episodes were everything. Representation matters. Thank you!!
