"Mon Guerlain: Notes of a Woman" is a short film (in some way it is I suppose) from 2017 that is as you may understand from the title already a commercial, not a music video. This was directed by Terrence Malick and it stars Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. It says here on imdb that it runs for 2 minutes, but that is not really correct. I think there are two versions and even the longer versions makes it barely past the 60-second mark. The dominating color here is white in terms of curtains and clothes that are supposed to demonstrate femininity and innocence, but there is also some black in here as a contrast showing us the tough business woman that also is existent. There is also a guy seen very briefly, but fittingly he is not evem credited here with his name, so yeah, it is always about Jolie, always about females. Malick is a director that most of his critics describe as pretentious and with this short film they sure won't change their mind. I personally find the adjective very fitting here, it felt like a really empty movie to me. Everything about it was boastful and pretentious. This includes the purple color demonstrating nature and beauty in the sense of pleasure, maybe even delicacy. There is one moment when we see drop coming out of something that is the only concrete reference to the performe manufacturer. I prefer that term over fragrance honestly. I know many don't. And in the end we hear Jolie's voice say the name of the product. Which is good because there is nothing that stands out here and honestly it could have been for every other perfoúme (bottle) too. Tough for me to say anything positive here, perhaps that Jolie still looks pretty stunning for her age. But this film from 2 years ago is a disappointment. I don't remember exactly if this was from the time when she split up with Pitt or briefly before or afterwards, but yeah there is a reason why everybody talked about that divorce and nobody really about this "movie". Big thumbs-down from me. I am glad it was this short. By the way, Christian Berger, Haneke's regular cinematographer (Oscar-nominated) is on board here too. Not sure if I am surprised because of that or not surprised at all, just thought I'd mention.
