- Scientists tap into the Morphin Grid, but an evil virus corrupts the technology and a new team of Power Rangers is formed to defend the Grid from evil.
- Coral Harbor is the site of a grand experiment, with scientists ready to replace fossil fuel use with clean energy taken from the Power Ranger Morphin Grid. The mayor's wayward son gets involved just as a virus creeps into the system and turns a few human subjects into evil avatars, but the system also creates three Power Ranger to fight them.—statmanjeff
- It's a beautiful day, and (according to a reporter outside the event) the city of Coral Harbor is mere hours away from combating pollution by tapping into clean Morph X-energy from the Power Rangers' Morphin Grid.
Meanwhile, at the heavily attended Riptide Gym, Blaze runs a karate class but discovers one student jamming on tunes through his earphones instead of practicing the basics with the rest. It's Devon (we'll soon learn) who's waiting for Blaze to be a little more challenging. In response, Blaze aims a swing kick at Devon's head. Ravi calls out for Blaze to leave Devon alone, but Blaze says to back off and begins an angry torrent of punches and kicks, which Devon ably avoids or deflects.
Devon asks Blaze to stop before someone gets hurt. "That someone is you," quips Blaze. He knocks Devon back with a swing kick, then follows up with a punch to the face - but Devon ducks, and Blaze's bare knuckles strike into a steel support tube with a well-heard clang. Now he's mad AND hurt and attacks Devon with striking sticks. Absorbing the blows, Devon captures the sticks from Blaze to win the fight.
Just then, Devon's father - the mayor of Coral Harbor - arrives and disrupts his son's victory by calling him away. Humbled, Devon tosses the sticks to Blaze and sarcastically thanks him for the lesson. "This isn't over," retorts Blaze, glaring back.
In the limo, Mayor Daniels chastises his son for skipping out on a job interview for a carpet cleaner. As the mayor goes into karate and video games not getting him anywhere, Devon turns away to absorb himself in a video game; but, when the mayor tells the driver to drop him off up ahead at Grid Battleforce Headquarters, Devon gets excited. They have an incredible battle simulator, and Devon'd like to see it. Can he come along? "Absolutely not," says his dad, who is of the firm opinion that tapping into the Morphing Grid is a dangerous mistake. Unnoticed, Devon uses his cell phone to copy his dad's security pass (too busy to hear dad say to stay out of that place for now and always).
Once his dad is out and away from the car, Devon leaves the car too, saying "I do love a challenge."
As Mayor Daniels gets flash-blinded by a retinal scanner from two too young and clumsy front desk guards, Devon slips inside and uses his cell phone pass copy to enter a secure elevator.
After the mayor gets subjected to a ticklish body scanner, Zoey Reeves comes along to recognize him and share any further embarrassing treatment. Zoey formerly introduces herself and lead the mayor and his aide inside.
Excited to have the mayor's ear, Zoey says she has lots of ideas for what the Morph X-energy can be used - but it turns out that her current occupation within the company is for laundry service.
Command Shaw comes along and gently orders Ms. Reese back to work.
In the main lab, Mayor Daniels examines a container of green-glowing Morph-X. Chief scientist and child prodigy Nate Silva enters to explain (a little smugly) that Morph-X originally exists as pure energy in the Morphin Grid, which he has managed to refine into a liquid. The mayor is impressed with Nate's genius but not his accomplishment in tapping into the Power Grid for unlimited access to the most powerful energy in the known universe. Past monsters from every dimension have sought this power for their domination of the universe, and Nate has wrapped it up for them in a ribbon. "And when they come, this place - Grid Battleforce? - won't be able to stop them." Commander Shaw disagrees and leads the Mayor out to show him something.
Devon has since disguised himself as a lab technician. He is also immediately detained, but it's only to send him to the main Morphin Lab rather than the Battle Simulator.
In the main lab, Devon is sufficiently impressed. He briefly notes three volunteer subjects laying on tables (their faces covered) before Commander Shaw leads his father into the room. Nate leads the presentation of the company's plan to lead the Morph-X energy into combining with animal DNA before flowing into three (human) subjects, mutating their DNA and creating their secret weapons - Power Rangers. (Devon, watching from a distance, finds this cool.) Nate, with his excitement barely disguised, shows the Power Ranger special equipment they've already invented - Beast-X Blasters, Beast-X Sabers, Beast-X Morphers and Morph-X Keys. The transporters can send anything to anywhere.
As Nate speaks, only Devon notices that the green Morph-X energy turns temporarily purple.
Nate demonstrates the transporters, sending a Beast-X Saber to himself across the room. Daniels moves to meet the three volunteers, but Commander Shaw stops him, to keep the subjects' identities unknown. His aide calls the Mayor's attention to the ceremony beginning soon.
The mayor leaves and the covers are raised off the three subjects - they're the three teachers from karate class. "Seriously," says Devon to himself, "THEM?" The Morph-X energy breaks its container, scaring Devon into revealing his presence. The other teens recognize him as the mayor's son. Devon warns that there may be a virus or something inside the Morph-X energy. That's doubted, and security guards take him away.
As a precaution, the Commander orders Nate to run a full check on the computer system. There's not much time so do it quickly.
Devon is put in a holding cell.
In the co-gender locker room, Roxy asks Ravi if he's nervous. With his DNA about to be combined with a gorilla's, yeah, he is. Roxy isn't though, because she knows Ravi will be there for her. He reminds her that they've stopped dating because of the rule: Rangers can't date Rangers.
The Commander is ready, the subjects are immobilized, and Nate reports that no virus was detected.
Out front, Mayor Daniels announces their proximity on giving up fossil fuels for clean energy, with the entire Earth to follow once their city proves it's safe. Mayor Daniels throws the big switch, and Morph-X energy gets stockpiled. The crowd cheers and applauds.
In the main lab, Nate and technicians monitor the Morph-X DNA reconstruction. Unexpectedly, an alarm sounds. A foreign virus has been detected, and Evox the cobra introduces himself on their computer screen. The Morphin Grid will be his. Commander Shaw orders Nate to abort the morph sequence. She orders all non-essential personnel to evacuate. Devon pries himself out of the holding cell. Zoey, still gathering laundry, starts to join the evacuation but then turns to find the trouble, declaring, "No! I'm not afraid of big problems. I solve big problems." The two front desk clowns hear this and follow after Zoey, creating more chaos as they fall into a dumpster.
The system isn't responding for Nate. Blaze falls out of the canister, and an evil Blaze duplicate steps out to face them. He dons his helmet, gives an evil laugh, and blasts two security guards.
As technicians begin to flee the main lab, Zoey meets Devon in the doorway, introducing their roles as laundry and trespassing, respectively. Before the main door closes, Zoey and Devon jump inside.
As did Blaze, Roxy falls out of her canister, and an evil Roxy duplicate steps out, declaring themselves avatars that serve Evox.
Before Ravi can join the evil duo, Devon grabs a gun and blasts the infected feeder tube to the last canister. Ravi drops from his canister, weak but not evil. Avatars Blaze and Roxy go gunning for Devon for his interference, but Zoey charges a cart into them. As Blaze attacks Devon and Zoey, Ravi comes to the side of the real Roxy before angrily joining the fight against Avatar Blaze. Nate runs for cover as the fight intensifies, three civilians against two evil avatars.
Avatar Roxy ensnares Devon, Zoey and Ravi in metallic cable lines, pushing them back into the morphing area. Nate shoots down an overhead protective screen, which falls and breaks the cables, and initiates the Ranger sequence. The machinery activates. Zoey, Ravi and Devon are cocooned in swirling colors and end up as Power Rangers. Now there are three Power Rangers against two evil Avatars. Blue Rangers steps forward to declare that he doesn't know who or what the avatars are, but they are NOT Roxy and Blaze.
The fight continues. Red Ranger Devon now has cheetah DNA inside him; he's fast. Yellow Ranger Zoey now has jackrabbit DNA inside her; she jumps around a lot. Blue Ranger Ravi checks out his gorilla strength by hurling four barrels at the two avatars. Blue Ranger instructs Nate to teleport the avatars as far away as possible. Blue distracts while Red, Yellow and Nate set the equipment. The equipment activates and the avatars vanish.
The Rangers remove their helmets and stand amazed at what they've done, what they've become, and the big hole in the floor.
As a lid closes over Roxy (supposedly in a suspended animation chamber), Ravi recalls breaking up with her on a bridge to become a Power Ranger. Nearby in another unit lies Blaze.
Walking into the next room, Ravi thanks Devon and Zoey for stopping his becoming an evil avatar. The three teen Rangers former introduce themselves to one another.
Commander Shaw enters for Nate's report: The bodies of Blaze and Roxy are perfectly healthy but their brains are functioning as if in a deep sleep; as long as their avatars are awake, they'll be asleep. For their sake, the evil avatars must be destroyed.
The Commander greets Devon and Zoey as the official Power Rangers. She instructs Ravi to take them to the battle simulator.
