WandaVision is the first of the Disney shows that take place in the MCU. I need to start off with my praise for Elizabeth Olsen and the job she does here. She's not only beautiful but she's such an underrated actress. She really is one of the better actresses working right now. Wanda is one of the most powerful superheroes in the entire MCU and it really shows here. It's a weird and very fun show that will keep you entertained throughout the series. The attention to detail really captured the era and is a fantastic tribute to to the sitcoms of that era. If you're a fan of the MCU then this is a must watch!
  • I found WandaVision to be a pretty entertaining show that's a fantastic addition to Phase 4! It's so over the top bananas but it works in a weirdly entertaining way! Once you start watching it you'll want to binge it as quickly as possible. I don't understand some of these negative reviews though...did you not watch the trailers? Some of you are acting surprised at what you were watching. I don't get it...what were you expecting that you didn't get to see? It's a wildly original show that's such a fun ride that you can't turn away and that absolutely pays off in the end. Elizabeth Olsen is so amazing here that she absolutely deserved an Emmy nomination! She was also just great and the best thing going in the new Dr. Strange movie!

First of, I'm not a Marvel fan, not into comics and superheroes at all, so please read this review as what it is: an outsider's point of view. I watched this show, because I saw the trailer and the obvious homage to classic television appealed to me. All those shows paid tribute to and mentioned, I like. The way the main character related to them affected me. The cast was great, the humor a lovely surprise. The villain, well, not exactly my cup of tea, but as I said, I have no background in this universe, so I won't go into further detail. What I loved beyond words was the attention to detail and the visible love expressed for TV history from The Dick van Dyke Show to Malcolm in the Middle. Now that hit a nerve and made me smile all the way through, love story included. I'm still positively enthralled.
  • It might have been an error on Disney's part to release only the first 2 episodes at once instead of 4 episodes. While I am on of the few people who absolutely loved the intrigue and mystery of the first three episodes, this exceptional show has been getting a lot of hate due to a lack of plot.

... And then the 4th episode came out. Not only was it an exceptional episode, but it justified the use of the first three and even gave some answers to the many questions of Wanda vision.

Overall a brilliant show that shouldn't be judged on the first three episodes (especially if your only complaint is a lack of plot)

Show is developing nicely and although the build up is slow, by episode 5 the story progresses more and gets interesting. World building seems good, characters are solid and there's an eerie vibe in every episode which makes it intriguing.

Also, this show is somewhat different; many double meanings and implications. Feel free to interpret. Wandavision is already a pun.

On another note, I am happy to see many actors from various MCU films appearing. Also, the core cast of this show is pretty good (see Kathryn Hahn) and OlsenBettany are given a nice chance to show some more acting skills and deliver comedy on top of the drama and action that we are used to.

So, its an 8/10 for now, looks like a novel show. Give it a go.

Writing this with bated breath waiting on episode 5. The whole premise of the show is just totally different and it works! So happy Randall Park is in it too. Its so smart and I'm so excited to see the rest.
  • Avengers, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), are somehow starring in variations of old TV sitcoms.

This delivers all the missing emotional content in this Avengers cinematic coupling which never achieved actual feelings while on the big screen. In the movies, Wanda and Vision always felt slapped together. They don't have much screen time and even less emotions. After all, one is a brooding terrorist turned good and the other is a robot humanized. They are powerful magical beings rather than a human relationship until now. This time, Marvel has decided to expand what was probably an interesting movie into a nine episode TV show. In expanding it, it allowed various scenes to give these two character real human emotions. It places Wanda's grief front and center as well as highlighting their relationship. More than all the movies, this show puts real meat on the bones of these characters. It finally makes them flesh and blood.

Warning: At least watch it to episode four. The surreal first three episodes can be confusing and leave one wondering about unfamiliar sitcom tropes.

Starting with an episode 1-5 review:

I went in without any spoilers, but with the "knowledge" that I supposedly had to sit through the first 3 episodes and that episode 4 and 5 would be "better". I binge watched the first 5 episodes and I'm not overly impressed.

It becomes clear pretty quickly that the show we are watching in the first 3 episodes is one of Wanda's creations, obviously constructed as a coping mechanism and a safe space of simpler times where Vision isn't dead, and where Wanda doesn't have to worry about anything. Anyone with even a little knowledge of Wanda and how she deals with grief, probably saw this coming a mile away.

I understand why a number of people didn't like the first 3 episodes, but they are well made and needed as a setup for the rest of the show. Without that setup, there wouldn't be much of a show to build on. For what they are supposed to represent and how they are made, I'd even argue the first 3 episodes are better than episode 4 and 5.

I reckon a lot of people just really wanted to like the show and because they didn't like the first 3 episodes (probably mostly because they really wanted it to be something else), they just overrate and overhype episode 4 and 5, which is exactly what those episodes are: very overrated.

With the cat seemingly mostly out of the bag by episode 5, there doesn't appear to be much left in terms of mystery and we will probably step into regular action show territory, stuff we know Marvel for and that's probably what most people expected of the show in the first place, and what they will enjoy. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure there will be (cameo) appearances of certain characters, so the viewers can overhype and overrate some more.

The episodes are about 30 minutes each in length, but feel shorter, and sadly not in a good way. The Mandalorian made these short episodes work rather effectively, but this just falls short, especially considering there are only 4 episodes left (and assuming they are about the same in length).

I guess this will end with Wanda letting Vision go, giving their ride together an appropriate ending, also (mostly?) because the movies didn't do this much justice, at all. That, or some multiverse crap will emerge, where everyone lives happily ever after. I hope not.

The show is rated PG, and as another reviewer aptly noted: that is a shame. A big shame indeed, because a heavy dose of violence in how Wanda deals with her grief, would have been very appropriate, and likely even needed.

All in all, not a bad show at all and it's quite likeable, but really nothing special. Unless they really step it up for the second half of the season, my rating of a 7/10 will stick.

    Episode 6-9 review addition:

Binge watched the rest of the season. This show turned out mostly as expected. All in all I'm still not impressed and I feel the show in its entirety is a bit of a letdown in the sense that it could have been a lot better. The PG rating really didn't do it much justice; it's all too clean and sterile, almost as if we're watching a show for kids. It feels like a chopped up movie and it's best to be binge-watched.

Some of the characters didn't make a lot of sense to me. The motley "FBI crew" lead by Jimmy Houdini feels shoehorned in for some reason or another. This addition is just a huge waste of time, especially considering the short runtime of each episode. In the end they did nothing and accomplished nothing of note, it's 100% odd filler.

The Monica Rambeau character and her motivations to help Wanda make no sense at all and are not believable in the slightest. Why was she even in this show? Is she getting a movie role or her own show? Is that why she's here? Or perhaps it's to appease the woke crowd, so they can be happy when she's sticking it to the evil white guy, another unnecessary, simplistic and silly villain role in the shape of director Hayward. All he did was be at the recieving end of her stick, so I guess that was the point of that.

The "let me hack into the most secure system on the planet in.. tap, tap, tap, done" character with the unfunny jokes and uninterested and bored attitude was exactly that: unfunny and uninteresting. Zero thought or creativity went into the creation of this character. My god.

So, come to think of it, everything and everyone outside of the sphere is all just unneeded filler. There was no need for any of it, apart from reasons that have nothing to do with the show and story itself.

That probably also means we will see them again in the future!

Agatha Harkness, who I liked better as Agnes, as the "evil" witch, another silly villain role of sorts, in the end just there to provide backstory and to explain -sometimes literally and mostly by exposition- to the audience why and how certain stuff happened. By doing it this way, I can only come to the conclusion that the creators think the audience consists of 8 year old kids. Not good, really cheap and again: no creativity here. We even have to deal with the ancient trope of the villain explaining the entire plan and motivations right before finishing off the lead character, which of coure doesn't happen. Lame writing. And before you say "inception" in relation to Wanda's creation: no.

The fight scenes in the final episode look more like dances than actual fight scenes. Again, too clean and sterile, no sense of any danger. It is as if we're watching Sabrina the teenage with with better CGI. Returning issue: no creativity whatsoever.

The ending was a decent conclusion to the story that was initiated, but as expected it was incredibly predictable. Quite frankly it all felt a bit (too) immature, almost childish and superficial in its way of dealing with grief and how to wrap that part up, as if this was not aimed at adults but teens at best.

Considering the lenghty and in depth introduction that lead up to how Wanda would eventually deal with the real loss of Vision, they sure managed to wrap that up rather quickly, almost as if it was just an afterthought or a case of "oops, we only have 5 minutes left, we'll do it live!". In any case, it didn't do the build up and the show as a whole much justice. It was over, cue the mandatory tear, and that was that. It was forced and not convincing at all.

Meh, meh, and some more meh. Not good enough, Marvel, or should I say Disney. You could have just focused more or completely on Wanda and Vision, instead of adding silly and unneeded characters and villains. Because really: you had the best villain already, guess who. But you didn't dare to really go there. Such a shame.

Acting-wise, I think Elizabeth Olsen did a great job and performed convincingly. Paul Bettany was solid but nothing special. No one else really stood out either good or bad.

Visually it was mostly pleasing. I liked the creativity with the transformations in and out of the sphere. Other than that it was nothing special, with lots of red stuff and red pew pew.

There are quite a few loose ends, dead ends and unanswered questions, plus a post-credit clip that, I guess, promises more. We'll see. The show is entertaining at least to some extent, worth a watch once for most people, but in the end pretty forgettable and nothing special. I hope for something better next time.

My rating is a 6,5/10, rounding it up to (and keeping the) 7/10.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Not a show for those who half-watch while doing other stuff. If you pay close attention, it has a lighthearted, cheesy veneer, but it's actually quite tense. Something is obviously wrong--from the random splashes of colour, the ironman-coloured toy helicopter, the way Vision's boss seemed to magically suddenly decide to leave and promote Vision, the Hydra symbol on a watch, the fact that neither Vision nor Wanda seem to have the faintest notion how they got there, and, of course, the voice asking "who did this to you, Wanda?" I am quite sure this show is going to take a very dark turn if you nay-sayers can just hang it there.

As a Brit, I'm not too clued up on the US 50's tv and the first 20 minutes or so were a bit of a slog...but, as soon as the 'weirdness' started to happen I was intrigued. Can't wait to see what happens and thought both leads were superb.

After two episodes I'm hooked and excited how things will unfold. But 7 minutes of credits is a bad joke. This time should better be used for more content of the show.
  • Ok, I really loved the first three episodes, because they were different. It wasn't the typical marvel formula (which isn't a bad thing) of just action and fake science talk. It was a bit creepy at times, and was genuinely enjoyable to watch. Of course, those are the episodes people criticized for being 'boring', and using sitcom tropes. Well, the point of those episodes is that they were using sitcom tropes and putting a twist on it. You did watch it, didn't you? Anyways, after that, we start to see the typical MCU stuff, just without the action, so we just get fake science talk. I do like Jimmy Woo, though. Both of the villains are bad, especially the one that worked for S.W.O.R.D. (I can't even remember his name), so much fake science talk, and a lot of time spent outside the sitcom style. The sitcom style bits were really fun, that's why the first three episodes were so great. Also, the action in this show wasn't needed. I really didn't want this show to have a big action packed climax, but who am I kidding? It's a Marvel show. All in all, first three episodes 8/10, rest of it 5/10, I'd say that averages to about a 6/10 overall.
  • The first few episodes were quirky but uninteresting, the middle set of episodes were an improvement as it was clear something else was going on here and Marvel might take a risk for once, and then they went right back to the formula and ruined all the moving out of the comfort zone and interesting character potential

But Olsen and Bettany are fantastic

I am 56 years-old and not particularly in love with superhero movies. In fact, a few years ago, I pretty much gave up on watching them, as I just tired of the genre and the plethora of Marvel and DC films. That being said, I did enjoy the DIsney+ mini-seris "WandaVision"...but it really helped to have an 'interpreter'...a geeky sort who has read comics and seen the films to help explain things to be now and again. For non-comic fans, it can be daunting watching the film and not having all the backstory...not knowing which characters are evil, which have been revived from the dead and which are not to be trusted. Fortunately, my daughter watched with me and helped me to understand. Too bad there aren't services that do this for all folks like me!

As for the series, I enjoyed it because there simply is nothing like it. It's completely unlike the Thor, Batman, Captain American and Wonder Woman films (yes, yes, I know I am mixing DC and Marvel here!). ANd, that unlikeness is THE reason to watch it. Well acted, weird and occasionally quite fun, this is a welcome addition to the Marvel universe.
  • I almost quit watching about halfway through the first episode. It seemed kind of silly and over the top. However, this all changes when the show starts to take on dark and perhaps sinister undertones. I think this series will be a mystery that slowly starts to unravel with each episode.

A refreshing and creative television series. This series with its first two episodes almost sluggishly slow only to later pick up speed breaking new "immersive" ground in the superhero genre. Somewhat difficult to understand at first but quite unexpected, funny, and enjoyable, the comedic nature of this series eventually makes way for dramatic superhero action with heart-wrenching end. The various plot themes, from past television comedy series, to mysterious military thrillers, paranormal powers that border on magic make for a difficult script writing effort. The script though almost nearly becomes a seamless continuous television experience. The use of flashbacks and editing at times become worrisome in their approach but actually somehow redeem themselves quite well with their intentions reflective of great scriptwriting. All the loose ends almost magically come together with so many storylines explained and offering nice understanding of how individual characters fit with each other and themselves. Overall, this series becomes edgy and eventually introduces emotionally charged philosophical and humanistic quandaries. Definitely worth watching.
  • I've become a little suspicious about so called hyped up shows, but, to my sheer surprise, WandaVision really is a great show.

You will need to stick at it, the first few episodes were a bit of a chore, but once all settles down, which is pretty much at episode four, it becomes a cracking watch.

It's rather difficult to review the show as a whole, because the quality of episode does vary a little, however for the sheer imagination, acting and general originality, I have to score it a 9/10.

Don't be put off by the first couple, it really does go up a notch.

    It delivers.
  • I'm sorry for the 7/10 review, but I've been watching some amazing (in my opinion) 10-star shows and it just doesn't seem that great once I watch the next coming episode. Yes, I probably watch too much tv in my free time but I just love movies/shows and casting my reviews. I think Olsen is great but maybe needs a bigger challenge and will probably have one someday! It's just an "alright, decent show" that entertains in the moment of watching in my opinion. There's nothing too spectacular or thought provoking like shows I've watched elsewhere. Thanks for reading :) -Sina

What is with the negative reviews? This show was beautiful and funny from the very first minute. I am looking forward to how they will evolve.
  • WandaVision started off really strong in the beginning. I loved the mystery aspects of the show and the vibe that something is really off was intriguing and interesting to me. Got me hooked! Unfortunately it ended up being lackluster after episode 7 imo and all the teasing and references throughout, were just that. The show still ended up being good nonetheless just not as clever as i thought it was.

    Amazing
OMG, this show is amazing, why is everyone saying the first two episodes are bad, they are not that bad. I like the black and white! Please make another season disney!!
  • Warning: Spoilers
What is going on? First of all: how can you give a overall review for a show, that has only aired 2 episodes yet? Those giving low ratings should give the show a chance before deciding its bad way too early. To those who give high ratings, you should also wait and see, how you think about it once you've got the whole picture. If you want to rate what's been aired so far, go and rate the episode itself.

Now, about the show and those who think it's bad, just because it's different. Well, those 2 episodes didn't have much action. They were very different to what we are used to, when thinking about the MCU. But does that mean it's bad? Someone even wrote, it's worse than DC. Wtf?!

Just because something is different and not the usual stuff you are used to, and because something isn't hitting you in the face with glamorous CGI and breathtaking action sequences that don't require the audience to think doesn't mean it's bad. (Don't get me wrong here, I'm not necessarily against the above mentioned) But all of you, who just want to watch a show with your mouths hanging wide open because of the latest special effects while not having to think at all...... well this isn't for you.

This show is glamorous, and clever and is has so much going on in between the lines. If you watch closely you'll spot so many well hidden hints about what's going on. You can see how much work and thought went into every little detail.

And, well yes, the humor is totally over the top and yet still perfect. These 2 episodes managed to amuse me and freak me out at the same time. Wanda and Vision are delightful together, and while I was amused, at the same time I got goosebumps because of whatever is going on there behind the curtain, so to speak.

And the end credits. Marvel credits are always special, and so is this one. It's like the show itself. Atmospheric, shiny and yet creepy. Something glamorous and classy, hiding a dark secret yet to be uncovered.

I loved those 2 episodes and if the rest of the show can keep that level, it's going to be perfect.
  • It starts slow and a bit strange but the story starts to improve and it gets good well up until Agatha Harkness the the whole story just becomes stupid. There was no need it was ok as it they road it was going. You do not always need a dumb twist and this is dumb. It spoiled the whole story.
  • WandaVision certainly have a very intriguing premise, but pretty much everything else, like the build up to the interesting parts, is a tacky snore. The first three episodes is pretty much just a homage to old sit-coms, but unfortunately they weren't able to make those parts ...you know ...funny. So they merely function as a boring transportation device to the mentioned interesting parts. Couldn't they hire some actual funny sit-com writers for those parts and make them good instead of necessities? Unfortunately when the intriguing more "serious" parts kicks ins, it feels like even those parts of the show gets stuck in some kind of stale combination. When you feel like "Ah, here we go!" it doesn't really go. Is it suppose to be funny still or more serious? Either way, it's not very good at being any of those things.

WandaVison is a show that basically explains what happened to Wanda post-endgame. The show is unique and breaks the monotony of Marvel by making the show appear like a sitcom. It also achieved being perfectly eerie while keeping its comedic character.

This show is definitely worth a watch beacuse of two reasons. First of all it introduces new characters and is important to the Multiverse Saga lore, second its an enjoyable and well put show. The last thing I want to mention is that it was pretty bold to resurrect vision.

Overall it was a pretty good show with little to none cons, I definitely recommend it.
