But now, as an added reminder that the universe is pure chaos and beyond our control, Fox is yanking the iconic animated series from the time slot that it’s occupied since back when AOL was still a thing, O.J. Simpson had yet to be tried for murder and cell phones were roughly the size of a Yorkshire terrier.

The Wild Robot continues to emerge as the animated feature to beat this season after leading the nominations for the 2025 Annie Awards.

The Universal Pictures film from DreamWorks Animation led the way with 10 nominations today, followed by Disney-Pixar’s record-breaking blockbuster Inside Out 2 and Netflix’s latest from Aardman, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, with seven mentions apiece. All three films are up for Best Feature, joined by That Christmas, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Ultraman: Rising.

These awards are voted on by professional and patron members of Asifa-Hollywood who have two or more professional animation credits and contributed professional services over the last two years that contributed to animated projects. While this is a peer group award like the Oscars, but the Annie winners don’t always match the Motion Picture Academy’s.

Hulu will continue to be the U.S. streaming home for Fox’s “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “The Masked Singer” and other shows for at least the next four years.

Fox Corp.’s Fox Entertainment and Disney’s Hulu announced a multiyear renewal of their content partnership, encompassing in-season streaming rights for Fox’s programming slate. The agreement also includes the extension of the marketing alliance the two companies forged in January 2023, under which Fox and Hulu branding jointly share presence across all Fox-owned and external consumer touchpoints “to align with live and on-demand viewing messaging of Fox content.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal renewal runs for a four-year term, sources said.

Fox Corp. does not operate its own subscription streaming service and has leaned on its Hulu partnership to monetize content in the subscription VOD space. Separately, Fox operates Tubi, a free, ad-supported streamer.

Fox Entertainment is extending its streaming partnership with Hulu for multiple years. Under this agreement, new episodes and seasons of Fox Entertainment shows like “The Masked Singer” and “The Simpsons” will continue to be available to stream on Hulu the day after their linear telecasts.

This deal also includes an extension of the two brands’ marketing alliance, which was first established in 2023. That aspect of the deal stipulates that Fox and Hulu share joint branding across all Fox-owned and external consumer points of contact.

“Our friends at Hulu and Disney Entertainment are exceptional partners, together driving ongoing mutual growth and strong results,” Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, said in a Thursday statement to press. “Through our new agreement, we look forward to expanding on this impressive track record and collaboratively shaping the future of television in today’s shifting media landscape.”

Fox has changed up its post-Super Bowl plans.

The network will the season three premiere of its game show The Floor after Super Bowl Lix on Feb. 9, giving the Rob Lowe-hosted series the biggest possible U.S. audience to kick off its next installment. The Floor replaces first-year drama Rescue: Hi-Surf, which Fox announced would have the post-Super Bowl showcase when the network unveiled its 2024-25 slate in May.

Rescue: Hi-Surf will likely still get heavy promotion during the Super Bowl (as it did during the World Series), and what the network is billing as “a special episode” of the series is set to run the day after the NFL title game, Feb. 10.

Fox has also set the rest of its midseason debuts. The third season of Animal Control will premiere Jan. 2, pairing with the Denis Leary-led comedy Going Dutch on Thursday nights. Medical drama Doc is set to premiere Jan.

Apple TV+’s forthcoming Margo’s Got Money Troubles is adding to its already star-studded cast.

Nick Offerman has joined the series from A24 and showrunner David E. Kelley. The Parks and Recreation favorite will star opposite Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer in the drama.

Based on the best-selling novel by Rufi Thorpe, Margo’s Got Money Troubles follows the title character (played by Fanning), who is “the daughter of a Hooters waitress and former pro wrestler,” per the show’s logline. “After having an affair with her junior college English professor, she gets pregnant and turns to OnlyFans to make ends meet. After reuniting with her estranged father, who imparts advice he learned in the wrestling ring, Margo becomes a runaway success on OnlyFans.”

Offerman will play Jinx, Margo’s dad; Pfeiffer plays her mother.

Ghostbusters icon Ernie Hudson, Phil Lamarr (Futurama), American Gods’ Yetide Badaki, Quantum Leap star Raymond Lee and co-star Caitlin Bassett, among others, will star in the genre showcase, which is launching a crowdfunding campaign Aug. 27.

Exclusive: The vampires are moving from Amazon to HBO.

A comedy series based on Grady Hendrix’s New York Times bestseller The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires has landed at HBO, with the author writing alongside The Righteous Gemstones duo Danny McBride and Edi Patterson.

The project was previously in development at Amazon with Patrick Moran’s Pkm Productions but has now moved to the Warner Bros Discovery premium network without Moran’s involvement.

Hendrix, McBride and Patterson will exec produce, alongside Brandon James for McBride’s Rough House Pictures. Quirk Books, which published the novel, will also have an exec producer credit.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires follows a women’s book club that must protect its suburban community from a mysterious and handsome stranger that may be a vampire killing their children.

All of the network fall premiere dates have been released. Fox has announced its schedule for the fall portion of the 2024-25 season, kicking off on September 8th with the arrival of the new Universal Basic Guys series and returning shows Bob’s Burgers and The Great North. The latter will seemingly air just four episodes in the fall and then return at midseason.

Later in the month, more new arrivals to the network – Rescue: Hi-Surf and Murder in a Small Town are joined by returning favorites 9-1-1: Lonestar, The Masked Singer, and Hell’s Kitchen.

Fox has unveiled premiere dates for its fall schedule, including new and returning scripted, unscripted and animation series.

The 2024-2025 television season kicks off with the series premiere of the new animated comedy Universal Basic Guys on Sunday, Sept. 8, immediately following the Fox NFL doubleheader. Universal Basic Guys will make its time-period premiere as part of Fox’s Animation Domination block below.

“This year, we created a terrific collection of originals that deepens our network’s legacy of delivering unexpected, unforgettable characters and stories,” said Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn. “We’re bullish about the future and optimistic about the fun and engaging entertainment in store for our viewers everywhere.”

Here’s the Lowe down: Fox’s “9-1-1: Lone Star” finally has a Season 5 premiere date, almost a year and a half after its previous episode aired. “9-1-1: Lone Star” will return on Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m., kicking off a premiere week for Fox and marking the first new episode of the Rob Lowe series since May 2023. (“9-1-1: Lone Star” took a hiatus last season in the wake of the Hollywood strikes.)

Among other news revealed on Tuesday by Fox, the network has made a slight tweak to its fall schedule: The Joel McHale-hosted series “Crime Scene Kitchen” will now return for its Season 3 in the fall, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. behind Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen” (back for Season 23!). The show originally scheduled behind “Hell’s Kitchen,” Season 3 of “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” will launch in midseason instead.

Fox will use its biggest possible launchpad — Sunday NFL games — to help introduce two of its three new series for the fall to viewers.

The animated comedy Universal Basic Guys will premiere after an NFL doubleheader on Sept. 8 and air a new episode each week before settling into its regular place behind The Simpsons toward the end of that month. Fresh episodes of Bob’s Burgers and The Great North — which have leftover installments from their most recent seasons — will also run on Sept. 8 and 15, giving Fox a complete night of programming both weeks

Rescue: Hi-Surf, a drama about lifeguards in Hawaii, will also get a post-nfl premiere on Sept. 22, then move to its full-time home the following night. It will pair on Mondays with 911: Lone Star, which Fox kept off the air in the strike-altered 2023-24 season.

Fox will concentrate most of its premieres in the week of Sept.

Will Forte is headed back to Netflix for his next series role — and reuniting with his former Saturday Night Live castmate Tina Fey.

Forte, who’s coming off the comedic thriller Bodkin at Netflix, has joined the cast of The Four Seasons at the streamer. The series, based on the 1981 film of the same name, stars and was co-created by Fey. The cast also includes Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Erika Henningsen.

Fey co-created The Four Seasons with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield; all three worked together on 30 Rock. The film it’s based on, written and directed by Alan Alda, centers on three couples who vacation together each season and the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. Will Forte has been added to the cast of Netflix’s upcoming comedy “The Four Seasons,” opposite stars including Tina Fey and Steve Carell.

Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield are behind the series, based on the 1981 feature film that was written and directed by Alan Alda (who starred with Carol Burnett).

Forte was most recently seen in Netflix’s “Bodkin.” The “Saturday Night Live” alum’s credits include “Last Man on Earth,” “Sweet Tooth” and “MacGruber.” Besides Fey and Carell, previously announced cast members include Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Erika Henningsen.

For decades, TV shows lived and died by their ratings among adults 18-49, the demographic sweet spot for advertisers to reach a wide swath of potential customers with money to spend but without the lifelong habits about how to spend it. That’s not really the case anymore as an emphasis on engagement and reach in the streaming era, along with a focus on precisely targeted ads, means chasing demos is even more data-driven than it was in the pre-streaming age. The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.

16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.

9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.

The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.
